The console consists of two main elements. This is the tabletop and supports, that is, legs. Classic and modern variations look slightly different. Classic designs are characterized by the presence of rich and multiple decorations in the form of mosaics, paintings, balusters, stucco moldings, gilded inserts, etc. Also, methods of artistic wood carving and natural stone are used on the base.

Modern models are more concise and functional. Therefore, the design often additionally includes cabinets instead of legs, drawers, mirrors, etc. Transformer functions are also found, which allows the console to be turned into a spacious dining table with a few movements.

Currently, console sets that can replace dressing tables are considered in demand. It uses mirrors, pull-out seats, shelves, drawers for various small items and cosmetics. The table can be either corner or straight, or hanging. The choice is yours.

Cutting the board

Also, in order to make the upper and lower parts of the table, we need a board 3 meters long, 10 cm thick, and 20 cm wide. We cut it into pieces using a circular saw.

You need 4 boards for the top and bottom of the console table, 150 cm long. We cut it with a circular saw and, as you can see in the photo below, we get these components of the table.

Additionally, you need four boards 10 cm wide and 145 cm long. They will rest vertically on the boards cut above. We need 4 squares along the edges (see photo), 10 cm on each side.

Steps to creating a console table

Step 1. Make or buy legs. The console table has beautiful legs. Surely you do not have a suitable machine for turning curved baluster legs: this is not a problem. Visit a hardware store: you will find a variety of table leg models and choose the appropriate part.

Step 2: Cut the board. To create the top and bottom of the table, use a three-meter board, ten centimeters thick, 20 centimeters wide. Cut the board with a saw. You will need four boards with a length of 150 centimeters. Cut out the parts with a saw.

The table will take four boards, ten centimeters thick and 145 long. You will place them in a vertical position, attaching them to the previously cut boards. Four squares will be placed at the edges, you will see this in the picture.

Transforming old drawers

Long cracked and shabby chests of drawers are considered an excellent material from which you can make stylish furniture for your home. Boards for the frame.
Two plywood boxes.
Screws.
Primer.
Screwdriver and drill.
Sturdy board.

First of all, the craftsman needs to sand the drawers and coat them with paint. Using a circular saw, you need to make the necessary parts and frame. The blanks are fastened with screws and glue. All irregularities are carefully filled with putty. After complete drying, the product is coated with primer and paint. Boxes are placed on top of the frame and secured with glue and self-tapping screws.

Aristocratic model

1. First, cut the table into two parts, lengthwise. A tape measure and a pencil will be useful for marking. Sand the edges with sandpaper to avoid splinters.

2. If you have a table with removable legs, secure two of them; if the legs cannot be removed, your console is almost ready.

3. Then fasten metal corners on the back side of the tabletop: one in the center or two at the edges (what to do with the corner further, see step 7).

4. Cover the edges of the table with masking tape - this is necessary so that glue does not get on them. And then prepare a piece of fabric of the desired size and spray glue over the surface.

5. Gently lay the fabric on the tabletop. Make sure that there are no bubbles left (if they appear, smooth the fabric). If there is excess fabric left on any of the edges, trim it with sharp scissors.

6. Once the glue has dried, the tape can be removed. And admire the work of your own hands - the original designer console.

7. Attach the free part of the mounting bracket to the wall, making sure that there are no gaps between the console and the wall.

Creating a table

Visit a hardware store: you will find a variety of table leg models and choose the appropriate part.

First you need to prepare the board. For the top and bottom of the table, take 4 boards 1.5 m long, 20 cm wide and 10 cm thick. As already noted, you can order sawn materials or make your own from two 3-meter boards.

To create the top and bottom of the table, use a three-meter board, ten centimeters thick, 20 wide.

You will also need 4 boards 145 cm long, 10 cm wide and 10 cm thick. You also need to cut 4 squares with a side of 10 cm.

The 145 cm parts are laid parallel, the lower and upper ends are connected with squares, which are placed perpendicularly between the boards.

The legs are screwed in between the tabletop and the lower part (150 cm pieces).

We take the legs purchased in advance and screw them to a board one hundred and fifty centimeters long.

The resulting structure from 145 cm boards and squares is placed in the center of the tabletop, with the end edges down. Secure with wood glue. Cover the top with a 150 cm board and secure it. It turns out to be a “puff” tabletop. Exactly the same part needs to be made for the bottom: turn the almost finished table over, secure the structure in the center of the bottom part, and glue the second board.

However, you can make a table with a regular tabletop.

When you have completed all the work, you will have a real masterpiece.

It is enough to screw the legs to the board of the required size.

Final stage and decoration

Wooden parts must be sanded so that there are no nicks left. Sandpaper of varying degrees of grit is suitable for this. First, take a coarse-grained one to smooth out noticeable unevenness.

Finishing is carried out with fine-grained paper.

Then the table or parts are covered with wood putty: the material smoothes out the defects. After the layer has dried, the wood can be sanded to ensure better adhesion of the surface to the paint.

Before applying colored paint, the part is coated with a primer and dried.

If the table is varnished, there is no need to prime it. Instead, the part is treated with stain.

The final finishing is painting/varnishing the table. If desired, it can be decorated using decoupage technique, painted with ornaments or abstract patterns.
