Armchair in a modern interior: a stylish and practical choice

Armchairs have become an integral attribute of a modern home. It’s difficult to even say how long ago the first options for comfortable seating, relaxation, performing various work processes and creative activities appeared. Not only in living rooms can you find an armchair in modern apartments and private houses. Offices, bedrooms, children's rooms, dining rooms and even utilitarian spaces are equipped with armchairs of various modifications. The assortment of modern furniture stores is staggering - there are countless models, frame options, choice of upholstery material and functions that this necessary piece of furniture can perform. Let's take a closer look at the criteria for choosing seating for the different needs of the modern homeowner.

Types of lounge chairs

Armchairs are often included in the soft set. Also, they have long become a separate piece of furniture, which does not always coincide in design and material with the sofa.

There is a standard classification of chairs. Having become more familiar with each type, it will be much easier to choose the most correct one for certain purposes.

  1. Classic. Models familiar to everyone, usually very soft and comfortable. A special feature can be considered the proportionality of the back and seat. You can choose a suitable model for any style direction: low and high, with or without armrests, on legs and on a solid base.

  1. Chair-beds. The name speaks for itself. It is an additional sleeping place; when unfolded, it is a full-fledged single (and sometimes slightly wider) bed. The models are equipped with folding mechanisms. It is in chair-beds that storage space is sometimes provided.

  1. Massage. A special type of furniture that has the shape of a chair, but at the same time it is equipped with special built-in mechanisms with the help of which massage rollers are activated. Usually there are several massage modes, you can always choose the most comfortable one. These chairs are quite large in size and require enough space.

  1. Rocking chairs. Another type of relaxing item. Agree that it is very nice to sit down after a hard day at work in a chair that will gently rock you to sleep. Its design is so comfortable that you can easily take a nap on it without any part of your body getting tired.

  1. The loungers are reminiscent of the loungers on the beaches. The comfortable design will allow you to stretch your legs, they will be higher, which will allow them to have a good rest. Such a chair can be placed not only in the living room, but, for example, on the loggia, if there is a recreation area there.

  1. Advertisers. The main task is to ensure proper rest. The chair can be slightly transformed. It is possible to extend the soft footrest and change the angle of the backrest. A massage function is sometimes added to such models.

  1. Frameless. Not so long ago, these models came into fashion. An absolute hit in recent years. They have a lot of advantages:
  • soft on all sides, there are no corners because they do not have a hard frame;
  • easy to move around the apartment;
  • can fit in any area;
  • perfectly hold the desired shape, taking the contours of the body.

  1. Lifts. The furniture is designed for people with special needs. This item is very necessary if a person with disabilities lives in the house. The design is controlled using a button, can be raised or lowered, and can change the position of the backrest.

  1. "Swing". This model hangs from ceiling beams or other durable fasteners. By itself it is quite light. Manufacturers offer hanging chairs, mainly in the form of a hemisphere. Of course, this type requires a spacious room so that the chair does not interfere with movement.

  1. Work chairs. Unlike all the previous ones, work chairs are absolutely not intended for relaxation. On the contrary, they must discipline and encourage work. But this does not mean that you have to give up convenience. Firmer than other models, but the back should support your back well and your legs should be at a comfortable height. It is best to choose height-adjustable models. Chairs can be either with or without armrests, on legs or on wheels.

Ideas for every room

Let's look at photos of interesting placement ideas in each room.

Armchair in the living room interior

The decoration of a hall is rarely complete without 1-2 chairs. They are usually located next to the sofa, forming a soft group with a sufficient number of seats. Depending on the size of the room, you can add from one to several armchairs to the sofa. The pair can be identical and located symmetrically or side by side (you can combine them around a coffee table) or consist of 2-3 different accent pieces.

Upholstery of lounge chairs

First of all, when choosing upholstery for chairs and other upholstered furniture, you should think about practicality, although beauty and style do not fade into the background. Let's go through the most popular materials.

  1. Let's start with the most expensive material - genuine leather. The main advantages include softness, moisture resistance, durability and practicality. Of course, all these qualities apply to high-quality varieties. The main dignity is solidity, aristocracy, nobility. Leather chairs are often used in English, classic and neoclassical interiors. There are also disadvantages: high price. Still, you need to avoid animal claws.

  1. Another expensive option is chairs upholstered in jacquard. The special weaving of threads provides a very voluminous pattern for everyone to see. Jacquard appeared a long time ago, and since then has not lost its position. The attitude towards it should be the same as it deserves, for example, antiques. The fabric is very afraid of sharp objects. If you come into contact with them, puffs may appear, which will ruin the appearance. But in general, it is a durable and practical material that does not require complex care.

  1. Perhaps the most common upholstery material is flock. It is affordable in cost. But here there is a danger of running into low-quality fabric, which will very soon become shabby and ugly. But the obvious advantages of high-quality flock include its strength due to the presence of synthetic fibers in the fabric. Another advantage is that almost any design and print can be applied to it. This chair will last a long time if you care for it properly - without aggressive cleaning products.

  1. Noble, pleasant to the touch, soft fabric - velor. Chairs upholstered in velor look great. You won’t find any drawings on this material, but the richness of colors and shades is amazing. Disadvantages: does not like water and strong cleaning agents, abrasion may occur.

How does it look in different styles?

Whatever direction you choose for your home, there is sure to be a chair to go with it!

  • Minimalism. Simple shapes, clear lines, minimal decor, neutral upholstery.
  • High tech. The design often contains a chrome-plated metal frame, and the upholstery is often leather.
  • English. 2 options: strict Chester or a more decorative model with carved wooden armrests and patterns on the back.
  • Provence. The main differences are graceful legs, carriage binding, pastel plain fabrics or floral patterns.

  • Modern. Smooth lines, slightly futuristic design: the back often resembles a cocoon or an egg.
  • Classic. Always expensively decorated: capitonné on the back, wooden patterns, low beautiful legs. For upholstery, jacquard with ornaments is usually used.
  • Scandinavian. Adherents of the style often use original models with high, “hugging” backs.

Chair filler

The main requirements for the filler are a good level of elasticity, its ability to restore shape and at the same time softness. Traditional fillings for chairs are foam rubber and synthetic padding. Foam rubber (or polyurethane foam) is usually used for seats, as it has greater elasticity and the ability to remember the contours of the body. Sintepon is placed in the back of the chair, because the load on it is less.

Do not forget that there are frameless chairs, the basis of which is only filler, there is no solid frame. A filler such as polystyrene foam is used here. A large bag filled with small polystyrene foam balls quickly takes the shape of the body without losing its own. Models can be different: pear, square, round, pillow, oblong and more.

Color solution

Since we touched on the topic of color, let’s talk about it separately. The stores sell models in different shades: from neutral to colored - pastel, deep and even acidic.

The choice should first of all be based on the interior of the room. If you want to focus on decor rather than furniture, choose basic shades: gray, beige, white, black. To put emphasis on the chair, choose contrasting colors: they can be either colored or monochrome, the main thing is that they differ from the surrounding details.

The second aspect that influences the choice of color is the functional purpose of the space. For children's rooms, in most cases they choose a bright palette - and the upholstery is not necessarily monochromatic; options with prints are acceptable.

If you are organizing a relaxation area with an armchair in the bedroom, choose a calm color scheme that promotes relaxation: gray, beige, pastel green or blue. In the office, restrained dark tones are preferred - brown, graphite, indigo, cherry, malachite. The color of furniture in the living room can be neutral or bright.

Frame

To choose the right chair, you need to pay attention to the type of frame, since the stability and durability of the product depends on this. In addition to wood, MDF, chipboard and fiberboard, metal, combined materials are used, for original models - glass and plastic. A frame made of natural wood is considered the most durable and reliable, but its cost is also considerable.

For heavy loads, a metal structure, the elements of which are connected by welding, is also suitable. The use of pressed materials makes the chair cheaper and reduces its weight. To achieve an ideal price-quality ratio, we offer combined frames that consist of several materials. An important role is played by the characteristics of fasteners and the reliability of fixation of each element.
