Which method of knitting a bedspread should you choose?

There are several different knitting methods:

  • in one piece;
  • from square motifs;
  • from triangular motifs;
  • stripes and zigzags;
  • from the center, etc.

We knit with a single fabric - this is the longest and most difficult method in our opinion. An adult blanket is knitted in a large size, for example 1.5 * 2 m, or even more. At first it will be easy for you to move from place to place with this knitting, but the larger it gets, the more difficult it will be to take your work with you on the road. What if you need to knit from different balls? In addition to the product, you will also have to carry a large supply of threads. So knitting in a single piece is acceptable if you do not plan to knit outside the home.

How much easier it is to knit with motifs. Typically, the motif for a bedspread does not exceed 10-20 cm in length/width. It is convenient to take this work with you and knit it on the road, in a clinic, on the subway, while waiting for a child to return from the section and on a walk. But the motto of a knitter is to knit every free minute of time. In addition, you can use leftovers from different glomeruli.

The advantages of knitting from motifs are obvious. Although there are a couple of small but significant disadvantages - the threads will have to be constantly cut off and ultimately the motifs will have to be sewn into a single fabric.

As you can see, there is no perfect method for knitting a blanket.

Look for the patterns you like, buy threads for them and knit the biggest and most beautiful blanket. It will decorate your home, and for you it will become a symbol of labor and patience, because not everyone is able to crochet such a large thing - a bedspread!

Material and tools

Independently and correctly knitting a blanket with knitting needles requires the preparation of high-quality material and tools. Not every type of thread is suitable for covering. For example, do not use yarn with the addition of metallized thread.

The material is beautiful, but it irritates the skin and will not be comfortable to cover. The main types of threads used: acrylic, wool, wool blend, cotton, angora with acrylic, mohair, wool with the addition of acrylic, grass.

Interesting! Cotton is very light and pleasant to the touch, so it is often used for knitting. Cotton also does not require special care.

The softest fabrics are those made from “grass” threads. Products made of wool or wool mixture are often used in winter due to their good heat retention. It is not recommended to make large projects from old yarn, because its surface is frayed and the fabric will turn out sloppy.

The selection of knitting needles is also important. They can be made of wood, metal, plastic, even bone. To find good tools, look at the polish (should be of a good level) and the sharpness of the ends - the ends should not be too sharp so as not to get hurt. But dull ones won’t work either, you need to look for the middle.

For light yarn, use knitting needles made of plastic or bone. For heavy ones, wooden and metal ones are suitable. The tool number corresponds to its diameter. To select the optimal diameter, you need to multiply the thickness of the yarn by 2.

During work, other equipment may be useful:

1. Row countersThey record the numbers.
2. Knitting pinThe loops stop for her.
3. Small scissorsNeeded for additional work, the tip must be sharp.

Sometimes you also need a knitting thimble, colored tips, bobbins, an iron, a notepad, a pencil, an eraser and a ruler.

Why do you need a sofa cover?

A blanket on the sofa will help protect the upholstery not only from wear, but also from mechanical damage or accidental dirt. It will be simply irreplaceable if you have small children or pets in your home. In addition, it is much easier to wash it than to clean the upholstery of the sofa.

A sofa cover is not just beautiful, but also practical.

In addition to protection, the cover on the sofa also serves an aesthetic function. This is a decorative decoration that will attract the eyes of guests and give your decor an original and unique look.

Old furniture can be updated with a cover.

If your upholstered furniture is already old or you are simply tired of it, or you have renovated the room, but the upholstery of the sofa and armchairs does not really harmonize with the new interior, and there is no money for new furniture, then a cover will help solve these problems.

Crochet blanket made from granny square motifs

Hello dear needlewomen! I’ve been visiting this site for a long time, I like to look at other people’s work and find something useful for myself. I dreamed of knitting a blanket from motifs, but I was scared to take on such a big job. Slowly, little by little, I finally mastered it. The blanket is crocheted from “Irina” Seam threads, 100% cotton, 50m/180g, crocheted No. 1.7. Size 1.8*1 m. Weight 1 kg. A total of 60 square motifs are knitted.

The threads were bought a long time ago at a sale and were waiting in the wings. Therefore, we had to be clever with the arrangement of motives, because... There was no way to buy the right color. The most difficult thing was to connect the motifs together and then hide the ends. I looked at many different ways. I didn’t want to connect the motifs while knitting the last row, and I didn’t want to sew either. Therefore, I chose the method.

The photo shows that the fabric warps a little, but the thread does not need to be constantly broken. I don’t plan to put a blanket on the bed, but just cover myself with it. Therefore, this defect will not be noticeable. Irina's work.

Warm crocheted blankets from Olga Chinyakova

This is my first crocheted blanket, and indeed my first crocheted product. We are not looking for easy ways. Yarn 50% acrylic, 50% wool, hook number 5. It took 2 kg of yarn, blanket size 1.7 m x 1.3 m. It is useless to talk about the duration of knitting, because... I constantly figured out how to knit various loops, how to connect squares, how to combine colors, but when I knitted it, my pride knew no bounds.

Knitting pattern

This crocheted blanket is my second project; before that I only knitted. Hence the conclusion that it is not difficult at all. I knitted for about a month, 2 hours a day. It took 1 kg 400 g of yarn 50% acrylic, 50% wool, hook number 5.

How to knit an airy blanket using just your hands

You can knit an airy blanket without having any knitting needles or a hook on hand. To do this, you will need special yarn that has ready-made loops. To work with it, you will need to manually pull the loops into each other in a given order. But first you should lay out the entire canvas evenly. The first row will be the length of the finished product. Take the outermost loop from the working thread and pull it into the outermost loop of the row, and so on. When they reach the edge, unfold the fabric and also knit in the opposite direction. This DIY blanket will be plush, light and warm.

Proper care of the case

When washing upholstery covers, do not use harsh detergents such as bleach. It is recommended to dry the bedspread naturally in the fresh air.

Modern blankets are distinguished by voluminous patterns.

It is better not to subject a knitted cape to mechanical stress, so hand washing is preferable. Avoid washing at hot temperatures as the product may feel matted or shrink.

A cover or bedspread is a fairly cheap way to protect the upholstery of upholstered furniture, and a hand-crocheted sofa cover will enliven the interior and give it uniqueness.

The final stage is decoration

A soft, cozy and incredibly beautiful crocheted bedspread will be an ideal warm refuge for you to relax after a working day.
Here, show all your imagination and bring all your ideas to life. This, of course, can be done by experienced craftswomen. Beginning needlewomen who are not confident in their use of knitting tools can “disguise” their creation by choosing “grass” or boucle yarn for work, thereby brightening up all the unevenness and imperfections in the finished product. An original item can be created from thick yarn with a loosened knitting, and they knit quite quickly.

Capes made from multi-colored threads look great. Take one color as a basis, choosing halftones for it. The main product can be trimmed with fringe, tassels, a jagged edge, a voluminous canvas - there are many options.

Whatever model you choose, it will perfectly refresh your interior and bring a feeling of real home comfort.
