Bathroom design 4 sq. m. Photos of projects with and without toilet

Design of a small bathroom 4 sq. m. is doubly difficult to plan than a larger bathroom. In this area you need to place a bathtub, a toilet, a washbasin, and cabinets for toothbrushes, razors, and foam. We have collected for you all the main options for a four-meter bathroom in different styles. Use the ideas even if your bathroom is a little smaller.

Correct layout

Bathroom area 4 sq. meters - a standard design solution in a modern new building.

There may be several layout options, depending on the shape of the room and the location of the doorway.

  1. Square room with bath, toilet and washbasin. An indispensable condition is that the length of the wall must be at least 1700 mm in order to install a bathtub. Disadvantage: there is not enough space on both sides of the toilet, there is no place to install a pencil case.
  2. Square bathroom with corner shower, washbasin, toilet and pencil case. By replacing the bathtub with a stall, space is freed up for a cabinet, but there is not much space in the toilet installation area.

  3. A rectangular room with a wide shower and a standard washbasin. This frees up space for installing two small pencil cases. The downside is that the toilet is located right in front of the door.

Design a 4 sq.m. bathroom. meters can be done in various ways. The main rule is to use the space wisely and not clutter the room, but at the same time place everything you need there.

Also take into account an important factor - during any redevelopment, sewer holes and the entry point of water pipes into the bathroom should be left in the place provided for by the design solution. If they are carried independently, emergency situations may occur.

We use the space above the doorway

Still, an area of 4 meters cannot be called spacious. Therefore, the room must be used to the maximum. In addition to shelves or a cabinet above the washbasin, you can use the space above the doorway. On average, its height is 30-40 cm. There you can arrange a place to store towels or household chemicals. This is especially true in a house where there are small children - there they definitely won’t get their hands on dangerous liquids and powders. The main task is to fit this shelf into the existing design.

↑ Current color scheme

You can endlessly do three things: look at the fire, watch the water flow, and also choose a color scheme for the design of a particular room. Especially if you keep your finger on the pulse of the day and definitely want to impress everyone with your excellent taste.

Of course, the limitation of usable space seriously limits the choice of color options, since what works great in the case of spacious bathrooms shows dismal results in 4 square meters. m. The main task when drawing up a color scheme is not to visually make an already modest room even smaller.

An excellent solution, which, by the way, fits perfectly into all modern trends - light shades.

↑ White

  • timeless classic;
  • makes excellent friends with everyone and everything;
  • increases space.

Feel free to use white as the dominant color and get a classic modern minimalist style. At the same time, do not limit yourself to tight boundaries: add some bright, remarkable element - due to such a spectacular inclusion, the room will get rid of the patina of sterility and become much warmer and more soulful.

↑ Beige

  • good combination with the entire palette;
  • helps create a homely atmosphere.

If you have a 4 square meter bathroom, beige is the trending color this year. Of course, this is far from the most advanced modern idea, but with skillful integration into space, interesting results can be achieved. The corresponding photos of the designs are below.

↑ Gray

  • neutral effect;
  • fits perfectly into fashionable design styles.

An excellent option for all occasions, which in the coming season will ideally interact with green, blue, and turquoise. Be sure to try these combinations: aqua references included.

With shower cabin in loft style

The design of a loft-style bathroom can be created using the following design solutions:

  • the most open space - a shower stall with transparent, almost invisible walls, containing only a shower head and a laconic holder;
  • a wall-hung toilet with utilities and a cistern installed in the wall;
  • Due to additional cladding, the wall provides open niches for storing toiletries - paper, skin and hair care products and towels;
  • The washbasin looks like a country version, but is quite modern - a faucet mounted into the wall is located above the round sink. It rests on four long legs with a shelf in the middle;
  • above the washbasin there is an oval mirror in a wide steel-colored frame; all accessories match it;
  • the wall with niches is finished in wood, the remaining walls and floor are lined with large square black ceramic tiles with graphite and white streaks.

Design options for a combined bathroom

A bathroom combined with a toilet can have two options: with a full bowl or a shower.

Choose the first option if you or your family loves to take a bath. 4 square meters is enough space to place a cast iron or acrylic bathtub. But you will have to sacrifice storage: for example, you won’t be able to install a capacious pencil case. That is, there will be no space left for towels and bathrobes; you will have to take them outside the bathroom.

The photo shows a combined bathroom in a blue palette

A shower room, on the contrary, allows you to win space in a shared bathroom not only for plumbing fixtures, but also for all the necessary furniture, including a spacious closet or shelving unit. You will organize convenient storage; you will not have to take anything outside the hygiene room. However, when installing a shower, keep in mind that you need enough space to enter it - in a limited space it is better to choose a model with sliding rather than hinged doors.

With toilet

Interesting design of a 4-square bathtub with a toilet, based on a contrasting combination of colors:

  • the installation areas of the bathtub and washbasin are finished with white tiles and white panels on the ceiling;
  • instead of curtains, there are glass sliding doors, and there are spotlights on the ceiling; the side wall has niches for storing towels, shampoos and other care products;
  • the washbasin is recessed into the countertop; There are closed storage sections under the washbasin; pendant lamps hanging from the ceiling; mirror across the entire width of the wall;
  • exactly opposite the door there is a white wall-hung toilet, all communications are hidden in the wall; above it there is a closed shelving unit with hinged doors;
  • The middle part of the bathroom, which includes the door, a section of the ceiling equal in width, and the central part of the wall with the toilet, is finished in a contrasting color: deep dark gray turns into blue.

Furniture

It seems that it is impossible to install furniture inside a cramped bathroom. However, when changing the classic profile to an artificial one, the idea of furniture products changes radically.

Here are the most popular models today:

  • Glass wall shelf;
  • Narrow tabletop platform for a washbasin;
  • Corner shelf (has a rectangular design and several open or closed glass doors).

Still, it is better to replace the listed items with the exception of the wall shelf with niches. After all, besides them, a lot of space is occupied by plumbing fixtures, lamps and even various attributes. True, refusing a washbasin definitely reduces the level of prestige and functionality of the bathroom.

This bathroom has everything you need:

  • the walls are decorated with tiles of several types and colors: large chocolate-colored rectangles, the vertical section of the side wall near the bathtub is made of light beige tiles with a pattern, the vertical segments near the mirror and above the toilet are made of sand-colored mosaic tiles, the wall with the doorway is finished with glossy cream-colored tiles ;
  • the bottom of the bathroom is covered with a white shiny screen; there is a glass partition between the sink and the bathtub;
  • the sink is small, rectangular in shape, with a wide mirror above it;
  • under the washbasin there are hanging drawers with a creamy front;
  • console toilet with installation;
  • a narrow front-loading washing machine is conveniently located in the corner;
  • the floor is covered with large rectangular tiles with a wood pattern in all shades, placed on the walls.

The design of the combined bathroom is completed with stylish accessories - coffee-colored towels and matching soap dispensers.

Basic rules for working with limited space

When we're dealing with limited space, it's important to use basic techniques and tricks to save space and create visual expansion.

  • Here it is better to choose an option with custom built-in furniture, which fits perfectly into the space and allows you to make good use of every corner. At the same time, we look towards minimizing the depth of cabinets, where this is permissible.
  • It is clear that under the sink the cabinet can be at the level of its depth, but it is important to make it on legs where the legs can be placed for ease of use of the sanitary unit.
  • If you choose a mirrored cabinet and place it above the sink, this will also help save space while serving as a convenient storage system and mirror.

Without toilet with washing machine

Discreet but stylish design in a modern apartment:

  • the floor and three walls are finished with pale gray wood-look tiles;
  • the wall near the bathtub is tiled with a 3D effect - a combination of black, gray and white colors creates three-dimensional figures;
  • the bottom of the bathroom is hidden by a screen covered with black glossy tiles;
  • wide countertop with a side wall to match the main tiles for the sink and niche for the washing machine;
  • under the sink there is a hanging cabinet with light brown doors and a shelf;
  • the mirror above the sink is wide, the width of the tabletop;
  • The washbasin is separated by a transparent glass partition.

It is made extremely simply, but looks stylish and modern.

Is it impossible to expand?

As in many tricky dilemmas, the main thing is to put the comma correctly.

The task for designing a small bathroom goes like this:

Extension cannot be made functional.

And a comma after the first word can be placed only in one case: if you agree to the demolition of the walls and there is space with which it is permissible to combine the bathroom.

Most often, such a space becomes a toilet, but other interesting options are possible (see our projects).

If this is not possible, you will have to work with what you have and turn the miniature room into a comfortable and functional space.

With shower and washing machine

Author of the project Arch-Buro

The bathroom with washing machine resembles a bamboo grove.

  • The corner shower stall is lined with white matte tiles on the outside. Inside the cabin, the walls are lined with mosaic tiles in white, yellow, sand and brown. The tiled side shelves easily accommodate shampoos and conditioners.
  • The open storage rack is successfully disguised with a white curtain. Below there is space for a narrow washing machine and a small closed cabinet.
  • Under the small tabletop there was space for two beige drawers. Above the sink is a rectangular mirror with soft lighting.
  • Cantilever square toilet with installation. The wall above it is lined with mosaic tiles.
  • The main part of the walls is finished with matte white tiles, as is the shower stall. In the area of the toilet and mirror, the white walls are diluted with relief tiles with floral patterns.

How to arrange furniture, appliances and plumbing?

The interior of the bathroom includes the bowl or shower cabin itself, a sink, a toilet (in the case of a combined bathroom), a washing machine, and storage space. Start planning with the largest item.

If the geometry of the room allows, the bathtub is installed wall to wall to the side of the entrance - this way it takes up less space and you have enough space to organize other areas. To save bathroom space, replace the bowl with a shower stall - you will gain at least 80*80 cm and will be able to install a washing machine and dryer in the resulting void.

You can either abandon the sink altogether, or choose an overhead model installed on top of the countertop or washing machine.

The toilet is usually removed as far as possible from the washing area, placing it along the wall opposite the bathtub. Take care of the free space on the sides (35-45 cm) and in front (70-75 cm) of the toilet. If possible, install a hanging option with a hidden drainage system; it looks more compact.

You will not have a separate place for the washing machine (with the exception of near the shower). Place the equipment under the tabletop, not forgetting about vibration gaps of 2-3 cm on the sides and ~2 cm on top.

Bathroom furniture of 4 square meters is chosen according to the residual principle: evaluate where you can install the necessary items and what size they should be:
  • Cabinet under the sink or sink. Helps hide communications, hide frequently used cosmetics and other products. If there is no washing machine nearby, it is better to choose a hanging model.
  • Cabinet or shelf above the sink. An excellent option is a thin closed cabinet with a mirrored front. It performs 2 functions at once. A lot of things will accumulate on an open shelf and the bathroom will look messy.
  • Rack. For fans of open storage, this is an inexpensive floor-mounted alternative to a spacious tall pencil case. But it is advisable to organize storage in boxes and containers. Today there are excellent options installed above the toilet, which are often used to save room space of 4 sq. m.
  • Open shelves. If there is a niche somewhere, filling it with shelves would be a great idea!

With installation and bathroom

A small bathroom with an area of 4 meters, very elongated in shape, but perfectly equipped. It has everything you need:

  • small whirlpool bath;
  • a wide wall of white tiles framed by a dark gray portal that turns into a table top and a shelf underneath;
  • combined light - warm yellow from spotlights on the ceiling, strip lighting around the perimeter of the room in a soft grassy shade;
  • the wall near the bathroom and the floor are tiled with rectangular tiles with a woody, “bamboo” pattern;
  • wide mirror with glass shelves for toothbrushes and paste;
  • there are also shelves for shampoo and conditioner on the wall;

To complete the interior, carefully thought out details are needed: towels in two colors - snow-white and bright green, wicker baskets and cups for brushes in a rich brown color, matching the bamboo pattern.

Ceiling

A stretch ceiling is the best solution for a bathroom. The stretched fabric is not afraid of moisture. Lights can be easily attached to it. If the neighbors above flood, it can withstand up to 5 tons of water. Photo printing - clouds, trees in perspective, underwater scenes - increases the volume in height.

Suspended ceilings made of glossy plastic panels, unlike plasterboard, which requires finishing, immediately create a finished and neat look.

The ceiling can also be painted by first preparing the surface.

With a modern style bathroom

Modern bathroom interior four square meters. meters with division of space into zones:

  • the toilet area is finished with black glossy tiles imitating natural stone, the ceiling above the bathtub is painted with black waterproof paint;
  • snow-white bathtub, black console toilet;
  • in the white area there is a square washbasin; a tabletop with wood-patterned side walls frames a mirror; next to it there is a closed pencil case with a white glossy facade and a lower compartment for a washing machine; the floor is covered with large white glossy tiles.

A washbasin with a mirror and a pendant lamp is located directly opposite the door; this technique visually enlarges the space and creates the effect of a “light corridor”. And shiny glossy black and white surfaces additionally saturate the room with reflected light.

With freestanding bathtub in classic style

Author of the project Svetlana Nezus

True French chic! Bathroom design in the style of the court of Louis XIV, adjusted for modernity:

  • mosaic tiles on the floor - a combination of white, blue, red and brown colors;
  • The top of the walls are finished to match the floor, below there is light beige cladding, the wall is tiled in a herringbone pattern;
  • there are fillets along the top of the ceiling, below them there is a floral ornament of pale green patterns; the pattern is repeated on the dark pistachio bath curtain;
  • the most important thing in this design is the accessories: a mirror in an openwork frame, shaped legs for the bathtub set away from the wall, and a washbasin on high shaped legs with a shelf, shaped metal holders for towels and shampoos;
  • all communications and connections are sewn into the walls - nothing reminds of modern technologies except faucets and soft lighting;
  • a shaped toilet with a flush cistern hanging on the wall completes the picture - to drain the water you need to pull the release rope.

Generalization

Basically, the requirements for a bathroom are as simple as truth:

  • functionality,
  • simplicity,
  • convenience,
  • reliability.

If you manage to combine all these qualities in the bathroom, believe me - in the morning, after washing your face, you will leave it in a great mood, and in the evening you will be happy to imagine how you will come home and wash away all the negativity accumulated during the day!

In a panel house

Incredibly cozy bathroom designed in warm colors:
  • the walls are lined with tiles of various combinations of light and dark shades of “coffee with milk” color; the wall near the bathtub is additionally decorated with a rich brown textured geometric pattern;
  • the light beige countertop is wide, designed for a miniature round sink and a niche for a washing machine; above the sink there is a cabinet with a sliding mirror door; below are storage boxes;
  • in the side wall above the wall-hung toilet there is a niche, trimmed with tiles with a geometric pattern to match the main colors; hidden lighting is installed in the niche;
  • stepped ceiling, two-level with lighting;
  • The side and bottom of the bathroom are decorated with small square tiles of dark coffee color.

+ Bathroom

A full bathroom is usually installed along the longest wall.

But installation options for small or sedentary models are also possible.

In a new building

An unusual but stylish combination is a combination of gray and red colors in the decoration:

  • three walls are lined with small rectangular glossy steel-colored tiles;
  • the wall on which the mirror is located is lined with bright red square shiny tiles;
  • under the washbasin there is a hanging cabinet in a neutral beige color with a wood pattern with steel handles; A square mirror with lighting is hung above the sink;
  • The bottom of the bathroom was finished to match the beige cabinet;
  • accessories (paper holders, liquid soap dispenser) and switches are made to match the gray finish;
  • bathroom curtain in a calm light gray color;
  • bright scarlet towels complement the interior.

Finishing

Finishing materials are responsible for the visual perception of all six planes - four walls, flooring and ceiling. The general background should be both light and contrasting.

Therefore, the three types of plane must be made in different manners. The difference itself is contributed by:

  • Use of a specific one-color material in only one plane;
  • The use of two-color materials in different planes, provided that the color ratio is different everywhere (a striking example of this is a black and white bathroom).

Moreover, both techniques can be summarized through, for example, light laminate flooring, stretch ceilings and “checkerboard” walls made of ceramics. The main thing is that there is much less dark color than light color.

It is allowed to use several elements in the same volume if the dark elements are so only because they are muted. For example, gray and green are darker by default than white and mint, respectively. However, the first pair certainly cannot be called radically dark.

Finally, the finish must be moisture resistant. It is not for nothing that it is customary to use gypsum plasterboard, ceramic tiles and vinyl siding inside the bathroom.

Scandinavian style with yellow boar

Author of the IDEA PLUS project

The Scandinavian design of a bathroom combined with a toilet looks great. The style is characterized by light colors, a lot of white and practical solutions:

  • the walls are decorated with mustard-colored tiles imitating brick; the wall along which the bathtub is located is fully tiled, the other walls are half the height, the walls above are painted with light beige paint;
  • under the washbasin there is a cabinet with shelves for storing household chemicals; above the sink there is a cabinet with mirrored hinged doors; a wall lamp is mounted above it; on the side there is a standard heated towel rail;
  • The toilet is located in a small niche, with storage space above it.

Overall it looks simple and practical, in full accordance with the style.

Lighting

The less the lamps protrude beyond the plane, the less overloaded the background and interior are, respectively. It’s not for nothing that in modern bathrooms, instead of sconces, niches with “dots” are used. If there are too many of the latter, then they can be replaced on the ceiling with built-in panels.

Things are a little more complicated with the Loft style. The point is that he welcomes pendant lamps. They are less secure, but very visual. The conclusion suggests itself: it is better to use the corresponding “chandeliers” in a single copy.

  • The real luck is the presence of windows. During the daytime, they replace general artificial lighting.
  • In addition, window slopes serve as the basis for a window sill and decor in the form of a pot with a plant.
  • At worst, you can use curtains. If there is a lack of natural light, it is better to do without curtains by covering the glass with reflective film.
  • And do not forget that glazing promotes ventilation.

The main thing is that its profile is in harmony with the rest of the background and products. The optimal solution may be to install identical windows and door structures.

With gray tiles

Author of the project Maya Valit

A bathroom made in gray tones looks stylish.

  • The walls are lined with large rectangular tiles of light gray color with a natural stone pattern.
  • The floor has large square tiles that imitate marble. Its color has a more saturated gray tint.
  • The bathroom is equipped with a shower cabin with transparent glass doors, a wide cabinet for a washbasin and washing machine, and a wall-hung white toilet.
  • Above the washbasin is a square mirror in a dark gray frame, matching the color of the cabinet.
  • One wall is tiled in a 3D design - large rectangular tiles with a pattern imitating volumetric cubic figures. Their edges are painted in the colors used in the decoration of the room - various shades of gray.

Floor

Of course, the floor covering should not absorb moisture. A slippery bathroom floor poses a threat to life. These considerations must be taken into account when choosing a material.

Tiles are traditionally laid on the floor. But only non-slip will do.

Porcelain tiles in this sense seem to be the most suitable option.

Linoleum without a backing is also sometimes used, apparently because it is the cheapest of all options.

Self-leveling floors made of epoxy resin are gaining popularity. After drying, the surface becomes perfectly flat and smooth, and the 3D effect is amazing, expanding the room down into depth.

With honeycomb tiles

The separate bathroom has enough space for the designer's imagination. Comfortable bathroom with hydromassage, wide countertop with a rectangular sink. The decoration is dominated by dark tones - black and wood on the walls and neutral white on the floor. Accessories and textiles to match the main color.

To develop a stylish interior for a 4 square meter bathroom, you will have to work hard. The space is small, but a lot needs to be placed in it. But there are no unsolvable problems for experienced designers. There is a place for the most necessary things, and not only - without decorations.

What should be the design of a 4m bathroom?

Ethnic style looks great in small spaces. A wall panel with folk ornaments, authentic lamps and accessories will make the bathroom unique, and turn every bath into some kind of mysterious ritual.

Excessive diversity and overloading of the interior with small details should be avoided. Sometimes one reed basket brought from long journeys and turned into storage for laundry is enough to create the right atmosphere.

Scandinavian style . Light shades and laconic forms of furniture, characteristic of this trend, are well suited for rooms with limited space. Scandinavian-style bathroom And also functional, since residents of northern countries are accustomed to successfully combining aesthetics and practicality. To confirm this, it is enough to recall the legendary IKEA.

Modern . This style is perhaps the best solution for intimate bathrooms. It is recommended to choose furniture with glossy facades in pastel shades, and also actively use tempered glass in the interior (for example, for a washbasin countertop or shelves for cosmetics).

A shower cabin and other sanitary ware of modern design will fit perfectly into the interior of a modern style bathroom . One of the walls can be decorated with a photo panel with a perspective image, which will create the illusion of depth in space.

Minimalism . Another successful design option for a small bathroom. Thanks to the almost complete absence of accessories, a limited set of furniture and neutral shades of finishing materials, the room seems to dissolve in air and seems more spacious than it really is.

Advice: no matter what style is chosen, it is better to use hanging furniture and sanitary ware, both to visually increase the space and for reasons of practicality. Such a bathroom will not cause problems during cleaning.
