- Matte mirror (satinato)
Previous Next
Unlike regular mirrors, matte mirrors are not reflective. Most often they are installed on the doors of wardrobes. But you can use frosted mirrors as an independent element of the interior. Sandblasting will give it a special effect. Such manipulation can give a matte finish to the entire area of the mirror or create a sandblasting pattern on its surface.
"Mirror with matte pattern"
The design can be anything - geometric shapes, ornaments, the most intricate weaves. Such a mirror will be appropriate in absolutely any room, because thanks to the chosen pattern you can add a luxurious decorative element. Frosted glass or mirror has another advantage besides its spectacular appearance. You can touch it as much as you like, fingerprints will not appear on its surface. Matting of mirrors occurs in the two most common ways: sandblasting and chemical etching.

Types of mirrors for sliding wardrobes and methods of decoration
Mirrored wardrobe doors can serve both a functional role and be the main accent in the interior. Based on these goals, as well as the design features of the room, the door leaf is also selected. And the choice is really huge! Mirrors for sliding wardrobes can be colored, tinted, matte, with photo printing, stickers and other artistic decors. Combined mirrors on sliding wardrobe doors look no less impressive - in combination with blank inserts made of MDF, laminated chipboard, plastic, acrylic, transparent and frosted glass.
Colors of mirrors for wardrobes
There are several types of mirrors for wardrobe doors based on the shade of the fabric.
The mirror can be “regular”, matte or tinted in bronze, gold, graphite and other shades.
If you don't like the shine of chrome surfaces, use a matte mirror to decorate your wardrobe doors. The effect can be created using various techniques of etching, matting, and sandblasting.
The pleasant “matte” quality of the canvas gives the interior of a bedroom, living room or hallway solidity and respectability. In addition, a matte mirror is less demanding to maintain - fingerprints, smudges, stains and dust are invisible on it.
Mirrored doors tinted in bronze, gold or graphite are especially appropriate in the interiors of bedrooms and living rooms, decorated in art deco and eclectic styles with a minimalist or ethnic slant.
Sandblasting pattern on a mirror
Using the matting technique of chemical etching or mechanical action with abrasive particles (sandblasting) you can make any design on a mirror surface.
The cheapest option is to use ready-made mirrors with a sandblasted pattern in the design of sliding doors. It can be applied to regular and tinted mirrors. Most often these are some kind of abstract patterns or floral designs.
An artistic sandblasting pattern is applied to the mirror according to a given pattern, which you can draw yourself in any vector program.
You can use ready-made templates for sandblasting - a great variety of them have been developed, with designs for one, two, three or more compartment doors, with different application areas.
Imitation of stained glass on a mirror
“Real”, original stained glass is assembled from pieces of colored glass on a special lead, copper or brass core. But to decorate furniture facades, in particular glass and mirrored wardrobe doors, artistic imitations of stained glass are most often used, and they are also called “stained glass”.
Film stained glass is a glued ORACAL film of selected colors according to a given pattern. The film is cut using a plotter and pasted onto the mirror by hand by craftsmen. The film stained glass window looks quite impressive.
A more labor-intensive and no less beautiful contour stained glass window is made entirely by hand.
First, using a stencil, the selected design is transferred to the mirror surface. Then, using acrylic polymer, the outline of the design is outlined. After it hardens, the resulting “cells” of the design are filled with translucent acrylic paint. The stained glass window on the wardrobe mirrors looks voluminous and very interesting.
Decorative mirrors for wardrobe doors with relief
The relief on the mirror surface adds a fascinating play of light and shadow, which makes the design even more impressive. I want to look at it endlessly.
Interesting decorative mirrors are obtained using the beveled edge technique. In this case, pieces of mirrors with beveled edges are assembled into a geometric pattern on the door leaf.
Three-dimensional laser engraving on a mirror is also popular. The chosen motif for decoration can be “flat” or with a 3D effect.
Laser engraving with a beveled edge emphasizes the features of the interior design as a whole.
The laser-etched relief on a mirrored door can be additionally painted over.
A certain relief is given to the mirror by fusing - a decorative element made of transparent or colored glass, glued to the surface. Most often it is combined with stained glass techniques.
Mirrors for sliding wardrobes with patterns and photo printing
Like any other flat surface, photo printing can be applied to a mirror. In combination with “transparent” mirror areas, the photo printing pattern acquires an expressive 3D effect.
Technology does not stand still, and many companies offer to decorate the closet with a pattern “embossed” on the back of the mirror. Using special equipment, the amalgam is first removed from the back surface of the mirror and then painted in selected colors according to a given pattern. Decorative mirrors of this type are more practical in terms of maintenance and are durable - after all, the design from inside the cabinet cannot be accidentally damaged during the use of the furniture.
Ready-made Miracle mirrors for sliding wardrobes
We should also highlight the finished mirrors with a matted MIRACLE pattern. Outwardly, they resemble a variant with a sandblasting pattern, but have a perfectly smooth surface, thanks to the multi-layer manufacturing technique.
The advantage of Miracle mirrors is obvious: a smooth surface is easier to care for. And such mirrored wardrobes look a little different in the interior.
The range offers a wide range of design options.
Combined doors with mirrors
In combination with frosted glass, varnish, inserts from Decorpanel, MDF panels, laminated chipboard and other materials, combined mirror doors are also often used as a facade for sliding wardrobes.
More information about possible options for combining materials in sliding sliding doors can be found here.
Stickers for wardrobe mirrors
Decorative mirrors for a wardrobe with a pattern or relief are much more expensive than conventional options. Especially if artistic application techniques are used in the design of the facade, rather than using a ready-made mirror canvas with a pattern. But there is always a way to make the design of mirrored wardrobe doors unique for less! For example, using special stickers for wardrobe mirrors.
- These can be mirrored acrylic overlays - an unimaginable number of them are offered on Aliexpress, of different shapes, sizes and motifs, for decorating wardrobes in children's rooms, living rooms, bedrooms and hallways.

- Using stained glass paints and an outline on the film, you can draw any motif with your own hands, and after drying, glue it to the surface of the mirror. An excellent alternative to stained glass on a mirror and at the same time much cheaper!
- You can also use regular and voluminous vinyl stickers to decorate mirrors on wardrobes. It looks very beautiful and interesting!

Another advantage of decorating mirrored wardrobe doors yourself is its changeability. You can change the standard furniture design as you wish at any time. Which is especially important for decorating wardrobe doors in children's rooms. As the child grows up, you can remove the stickers or change them to others with your favorite characters and movie heroes.
Thickness and dimensions of mirrors for sliding wardrobes
Mirrors 4-5mm thick are usually used as doors for sliding wardrobes. The dimensions of the canvas are calculated according to the recommendations of the selected sliding system.
For support-type profile sliding systems, an example of calculating a mirror insert can be found here. Assembling a sliding door using a profile also allows for the combination of mirror inserts with other materials in a single fabric.
In addition to profile sliding doors, there are also “frameless” ones. In this case, the sliding system can be supported, suspended, coplanar or cassette. When choosing the thickness of a mirror for a wardrobe, they also rely on the recommendations of a specific sliding system.
Most often, a regular mirror 4-5mm thick is also used, but it is glued to a base - laminated chipboard. Instead of gluing, you can use through fastening if the design allows for the presence of decorative fasteners on the mirror door leaf.
Some hanging systems allow a single mirror to be hung as a sliding sash without a base. In this case, the canvas should be much thicker (10-12 mm) and, possibly, acrylic. Acrylic mirrors are more durable and not as fragile, but they are also much more expensive.
If a sliding compartment system with mirrors is installed not on a closet, but as an interior partition, a door to a dressing room and other rooms, you should take care of the design of the “wrong side”. The easiest way to decorate amalgam is with decorative film, but there are other ways.
Rules for placing a cabinet with a mirrored facade in the interior of a room
Arranging a cabinet with mirrors is not so easy. To create the desired effect, consider several rules:
- Do not place such furniture in a narrow passage. A reflective wall will create the effect of a labyrinth with tunnels. It's not pretty and will get on your nerves;
- Not suitable for cabinets located in the center. This especially applies to round models. They will visually break the room into many small ones. Another pressing effect on the psyche;
- The light should come from the side. Direct light sources aimed directly at the mirror will create blinding glare (“bunnies”);
- This element is always attached taking into account the height of adults. For children, get their own personal mirror in which it will be convenient for them to look;
- For the bathroom, options with reinforced amalgam are selected (preferably a mixture of silver and titanium). Simple ones will turn black and stained very quickly.
Why do you need a protective film and seal for a mirror?
The so-called “reinforcing” film is glued to the back of the mirror of sliding wardrobes to perform a protective function. If the mirror is accidentally broken, the small fragments will not scatter throughout the room, but will “hang” on the film.
Sealing tape is necessary when assembling mirror and glass sliding doors onto a profile. The profile groove is about 8-10mm, and the thickness of the blade is 4-5mm. The silicone seal also helps create a reinforcing effect. In the event of an accidental impact, soft vibrations “dampen” the possible destructive effect on the mirror or glass in the wardrobe door.

In addition to its excellent decorative features, the mirror is also credited with supernatural abilities. To avoid worrying about this, approach them in a good mood. Smile more often. Let the positive come back to you.
