The times when people, when furnishing their houses and apartments, adhered to the principle “the main thing is no worse than others” are in the past. Today, individuality comes to the fore in interior design, and more and more often we decorate our homes with materials that seem to be completely unsuitable for these purposes. One of them is the most common burlap. You can use it not only to make wonderful interior accessories, but also to sew practical and original curtains. Burlap curtains look great in many styles and have long been loved not only by craftswomen who prefer to decorate their decor with handmade products, but also by professional designers.
Burlap curtains: simplicity, comfort and style
Burlap curtains are a non-standard way to decorate windows in a modern apartment, although they began to be used a long time ago. Today this is a popular way of decorating rooms in a rustic, eco, Provence, country, Scandinavian and even classical style. In this article we will talk about burlap curtains, in the photo we will show all the variety of models of such curtains.
What is burlap
Burlap is a dense material made from natural fibers. Already from its name one can understand that it was originally used in the manufacture of bags for heavy loads, which means the main characteristics of such material are strength and high wear resistance.
Burlap is made from plant fibers of different origins:
- Linen. At the same time dense and soft fabric, curtains made from it will fall in soft, beautiful folds. The original color of linen burlap is the color of unbleached linen (from light beige to brown), but today a varied palette of shades is available in stores.
- Cotton. The most popular and affordable raw material for making burlap. The same dense and soft fabric has moisture-resistant properties. Color ranges from golden brown to dark coffee.
- Jute. Jute burlap is the strongest and most wear-resistant fabric of the above. It does not stretch, its threads do not delaminate or fall off when washed and used for a long time. The natural color of jute is brown-golden, but, like other materials, it is dyed in different shades.
Advantages of burlap curtains
Burlap curtains have a number of advantages, thanks to which they have earned their popularity.
- Naturalness. Eco-friendly natural material provides good air regulation in the room and does not emit toxic fumes.
- Moisture resistance. Burlap curtains are resistant to moisture and sudden temperature changes.
- Economical. If you are going to sew curtains from burlap with your own hands, you will not spend a lot of money, since such fabric is very cheap. And finished products in stores are not very expensive.
- Durability. Burlap curtains will serve you faithfully for many years. When used correctly, they will not lose their shape, color and texture density.
- Numbness. If after washing the curtains are not wrung out at high speeds or twisted by hand, the fabric will practically not wrinkle. All you have to do is straighten the damp fabric with your hands and lightly iron it with an iron.
- Easy to care for. Washing, cleaning and ironing such curtains will not be difficult, because they are similar in composition to natural linen and cotton.
Among the disadvantages, the following can be highlighted: the rough texture of the fabric and its density will not allow the formation of thick soft folds and draperies on the curtains, so if you choose such textiles for your windows, then these will be the simplest possible cut curtains.
Product care
A “rough” curtain does not require careful care. Such models are chosen by those who do not have enough time for washing and cleaning. Burlap does not require delicate care, like, for example, synthetic fabrics. Often it is enough to wipe off the dust from the surface of the canvas. Machine washable in any mode, using any type of powder. The only recommendation for such care is to maintain a low temperature and turn on the “no spin” mode. This is the only way the curtain will not lose its neat appearance, and its structure will not deteriorate.
Choose exclusive models or create original curtains for the kitchen and floor-length curtains from linen burlap for the bedroom with your own hands.
How to choose curtains, what size, color, style they should be, see the following video.
Burlap curtain models
As mentioned above, burlap curtains will not be distinguished by an abundance of folds and draperies. If you want more gathers and folds, you can sew curtains from soft unbleached linen; its color and texture are similar to burlap.
And yet, what cut are burlap curtains most often?
1. They can be short or long in the form of a rectangular canvas.
2. For the kitchen, a great option for a “Cafe” style curtain. The upper lambrequin and lower shutter curtains convey a rustic spirit and bring coziness.
3. Curtains made of burlap in the interior of a living room in Provence or classic style will be floor-length, with tiebacks and a lambrequin of a simple cut.
4. Roman blinds made of burlap are a combination of history and modernity. They will hang like a heavy, smooth sheet when lowered and form smooth, straight folds when raised.
5. Burlap curtains with eyelets. Eyelets are not only beautiful and stylish, but also very convenient. Thanks to them, the curtain easily slides along the cornice and deep folds form on it, which is important for thick fabric.
Burlap curtains for different styles
Scandinavian is a truly natural style; natural textiles and furniture predominate in it. Therefore, burlap curtains will come in handy here. Simple cut, floor-length, they can be with light tiebacks and a lambrequin. Thematic decorations in the form of wooden rings or clamps will decorate the canvases and bring them even closer to Scandinavia. Don’t forget about functional Roman blinds, which with their features meet all the requirements of this style.
French Provence is romance and lightness. Here the curtains can be long or short; they are mainly decorated with lambrequins and tiebacks. Easy assembly and additional decorations will dilute the boring look of plain burlap. As decoration for such curtains, you can use cotton ruffles along the edge of the fabric in a contrasting color, lace, sew-on flowers, branches of artificial flowers as clips for tacking.
As a substitute for burlap for curtains in the Provence style, you can use unbleached linen with a printed pattern.
Curtains for a village hut were often made from burlap, but if earlier they were primitive rectangular canvases on clothespins, today a variety of fabrics and decorative elements turn a rustic image into a designer work of art. A simple cut and combination with other natural fabrics and accessories will add rustic romance to a city apartment.
American country is similar to French Provence, only the former is a little bolder in its manifestation. Country curtains made of burlap can be elaborate in shape, with an asymmetrical bottom edge. Combination with other fabrics, such as bright tulle, will not leave the window unnoticed and will give the room a cheerful mood.
In a classic style, with the right approach, burlap curtains can also be used. Most likely these will be rectangular canvases with or without tiebacks. A lambrequin of a simple cut will decorate simple curtains, and don’t forget about lace, frills and clips in the form of flowers. Curtains with eyelets will be relevant for the classics.
As you can see, burlap curtains are not something boring and awkward. With the right approach, you can create a unique look and stylishly decorate your home.
We sew curtains from burlap with our own hands
A couple of months ago, my best friend looked around her living room and thought about renovating for the first time. After the preliminary design project was completed - well, it was when she and her husband finally agreed on the price of remodeling the living room - an interesting question arose. The fact is that, after watching one movie, a friend fell in love with stylish curtains and decided to find out how much experts would value their work on sewing such curtains.
After voicing the fabulous cost, a friend decided that she could sew burlap curtains herself with her own hands, saving not only the family budget, but also having a little fun during a long maternity leave.
In order to sew her own Roman blinds from burlap, she needed:
- wooden perches
- rings for curtains, it is best to take a bronze color
In general, burlap curtains have appeared in the interior for a very long time, but the peak of popularity has occurred in the last couple of years. This type of curtains will not only provide a touch of coolness on a hot day, but are durable and, of course, environmentally friendly. The proposed Roman blinds made of burlap will be fixed to the window using special poles made of natural wood in dark colors.
You need to measure your window and cut the future curtain from a piece of burlap.
Be sure to leave additional allowances for the hem and leave about 8 cm. This is done in order to form a kind of channel for the wooden curtain.
Burlap curtain design - modern originality
Burlap curtains are becoming more and more popular every year, as many are looking for simple materials for their home. When used correctly, this fabric can create a fantastic design for your home. Burlap is a coarse material made from plant fibers. It is used not only in home decor, but also in various crafts.
To create a truly unique design for your home, you need to show a little creativity and imagination. The affordable cost is a big advantage, since for a small amount you can create curtains made of burlap with a unique design with your own hands.

The main advantages of burlap include the following characteristics.
- Great visual aesthetics. Similar canvases are found in natural and colored versions.
- Environmental friendliness. Burlap is a natural material, so the most suitable interior styles for it are eco, Provence, country, and ethno. The fabric is made from natural fibers that do not cause allergic reactions.
- Durability. When choosing a burlap curtain, count on the long service life of such an accessory. The product is excellent for cleaning and does not deform.

The fabric itself is woven from jute, flax, kenaf, and hemp fibers. If you look closely, you can see graininess on the burlap, small cells that perfectly allow air to pass through.
Varieties and distinctive features of burlap
There are many types of burlap, in particular such as:
Linen burlap is made from natural flax fibers or threads. The traditional color of this material is brown or light brown. Jute burlap is made from jute threads, which is why its fibers are stronger and do not delaminate. This material in its traditional version is golden brown, but it can be dyed to give the desired shade.
Cotton fabric is made from threads of the same name and is characterized by a light brown color. You can purchase burlap for making curtains at any fabric and accessories store and make accessories that will look appropriate anywhere.
Burlap curtains for the kitchen are very popular, as they have an affordable price and the ability to implement absolutely any ideas in the interior.
This material is highly valued because it:
- environmentally friendly and natural;
- has a warm and pleasant color;
- ideal for furnishing any home.
Recommendations for choosing fabric
Burlap for decoration can be made from both natural and synthetic raw materials. Natural fabric is in particular demand, as it breathes better than synthetics. In addition, such textiles are much cheaper.
Natural interior material varies according to the type of fibers that were used to make it.
It depends on them what additional properties the fabric will have. Therefore, when choosing burlap for making your own decor, you need to pay attention to its type. After all, each product will have its own requirements, which it may satisfy or not.
By type of raw material it is divided into:
- Linen. Linen burlap is soft and elastic, and is great for upholstering furniture and making bed covers.
- Jute. It is considered the most durable. It makes durable curtains: the fibers in them do not delaminate even after many washes.
- Cotton. It is accessible. It is often used to make table napkins, short kitchen curtains, bags for small items, and decorative tie-backs.
An important criterion when choosing fabric is its density. Thus, professional seamstresses advise choosing burlap with a density of at least 267 g/m2 for furniture upholstery. As a rule, furniture covers and decorative bedspreads are made from fabric with a higher density. Material with a lower density is used for sewing small decorative elements (for example, napkins and tablecloths).
How to diversify and complement curtains with burlap
The most ordinary curtain can easily turn into a stylish home decoration if it is complemented with burlap. You can decorate curtains in the kitchen or living room with a burlap ribbon, which must be sewn to the curtain using a button.
To diversify white curtains, you can sew a thin strip of burlap along the edges, decorate the bottom with ruffles, and add buttons that will serve as decoration. An equally interesting option would be to decorate such curtains with braid or other decorative elements.
They are perfect for the following premises:
Burlap products look simple and at the same time very elegant. A somewhat muted color scheme can emphasize the refined taste of the home owners and add nobility and special grandeur to the interior.
The cut should not be too complex or intricate. It is best to give preference to a simple rectangular shape. Curtains can be complemented with ribbons, flowers made of the same material, large beads, buttons and other accessories. To make the product more stylish and elegant, you can make folds using a rope. For the second layer you need to use simple white tulle. If you make floor-length curtains, then this option is ideal for decorating a living room or bedroom.
Shortened options will fit perfectly into the kitchen interior. Simple burlap can be somewhat varied, since for this room the canvas can be easily combined with other fabrics or pieces of burlap painted in different colors. For decoration you can use lace, ribbons, beads, embroidery. The kitchen will change significantly.
In a modern interior, models sewn from separate horizontal or vertical stripes will look beautiful. Burlap can be sequentially alternated in color; this material also looks interesting in combination with stripes of organza or silk. Roller blinds look unusual and advantageous.
How to make curtains for the kitchen and gazebo
For a kitchen made in a rustic or country style, curtains made from burlap are perfect. These products are environmentally friendly, wear-resistant and durable. To make them you need to take burlap, threads, and needles. Initially, you need to measure the width and length of the window in the kitchen. You can make curtains along the entire length of the opening or only up to half the window frame, as desired. It is imperative that the width of the fabric be 2 times larger than the window.
You need to sew curtains from burlap, carefully processing the edges so that they do not fray. Then you need to make frills from pieces of fabric or a wide satin ribbon and sew them along the edge of the curtain. If desired, you can decorate them with various accessories.
Kitchen curtains made from old coffee bags will look original; you can make them yourself by simply applying a design through a stencil.
Burlap curtains for a gazebo can be a very good option, but it is worth remembering that, despite all the advantages of this material, when wet it takes a very long time to dry, which significantly increases the load on the cornice and fastening elements.
When sewing curtains for a gazebo, you need to use a simple cut and it is best to make them not very long, as they will get dirty very quickly.
Making curtains from burlap does not take too much time and effort, but the result will exceed all expectations, as it turns out to be a beautiful modern accessory for the home.

Original products in the interior
Burlap is an easy-to-work and pliable material, so anyone can sew curtains from it with their own hands without much difficulty. They are very easy to make, since these products prefer a simple cut and the absence of intricate decorations.
For sewing you will need:
- burlap fabric for curtains;
- scissors, thread;
- sewing machine;
- tailor's centimeter.
Before purchasing fabric, you need to measure the height and width of your window. The curtain should be 2 times wider than the window opening. The length may vary depending on your own preferences. After purchasing the fabric, you need to wash it well, as this will slightly change the shade and size of the fabric.
There is no need to iron the fabric. Then you need to start sewing the product directly. The fabric must be cut, making a small margin of 2-3 cm on each side for the hem, then using a sewing machine or manually you need to process the edges. If desired, you can leave them untreated, and they will not spoil the appearance of the product. Then, depending on the characteristics of the cornice, a mount should be made. These can be loops or eyelets.
To make the curtain look stylish, and not just a piece of fabric, you need to use various decorative elements. You can sew lace along the edge or make tiebacks from satin ribbon or beads. Accessories will help somewhat soften the roughness of burlap and give it a certain style.
This curtain simply goes perfectly with plain tulle without additional decorative elements and with a mesh curtain. In addition, burlap can be the main element of the interior.
Roman blinds look very interesting; they will be attached to the window using wooden poles. Absolutely anyone can make Roman blinds, you just need to put in a little effort and prepare the required materials, namely, such as:
- sackcloth;
- sewing machine;
- small wooden perches;
- curtain rings;
- curtain hook.
Be sure to measure the window height and width and cut the curtains from the fabric, leaving 3 cm on each side for allowances and 8 cm for hems. This is necessary in order to create space for the wooden pole. To avoid shedding of lint during use, you need to make several folds and double stitch the edges of the product. Place the finished curtains on wooden poles and attach several slats at the bottom for counterweight so that the edge of the product does not ride up. To open a window, you need to unscrew the bottom of any curtain and secure it with a bronze ring on the hook.
Roman curtains made of burlap in the interior look simply excellent and can be a very good option, since they are quite easy to sew yourself.

Curtains and curtains made of burlap photo in the interior
The times when people, when furnishing their houses and apartments, adhered to the principle “the main thing is no worse than others” are in the past. Today, individuality comes to the fore in interior design, and more and more often we decorate our homes with materials that seem to be completely unsuitable for these purposes. One of them is the most common burlap. You can use it not only to make wonderful interior accessories, but also to sew practical and original curtains. Burlap curtains look great in many styles and have long been loved not only by craftswomen who prefer to decorate their decor with handmade products, but also by professional designers.
What are the benefits of bag curtains?
A little rough, but stylish and 100% natural burlap curtains bring special comfort and charm to the interior. They will become a very relevant solution for decorating a window, dividing a room into functional zones and have a number of significant advantages:
- the fabrics for their production fully meet modern requirements for the environmental safety of home textiles;
- unique, one-of-a-kind curtains can be created on a very modest budget;
- the natural muted light brown color of burlap looks very aesthetically pleasing and unobtrusive, and, if necessary, can be easily painted in any shade at home;
- such curtains perfectly protect from the scorching sun and at the same time easily allow air to pass through without interfering with the natural ventilation of the room;
- burlap is a very durable and wear-resistant fabric that will last for many years without losing its original attractive appearance.
If, despite its undeniable advantages, burlap seems too rough a fabric for curtains, try sewing curtains from thick linen. The result will certainly please you and exceed your wildest expectations.
Before thinking about the style of such curtains, it is advisable to study the distinctive features and types of burlap. Fabric for bags is made from different types of natural fibers:
In addition, coarse fabrics made from rope, hemp, and kenaf can be found on sale. All varieties differ in varying degrees of density (the size of the gaps between the threads) and color intensity: from off-white to golden brown. Burlap is often painted in different colors during the production process, and choosing a shade that suits the interior is not difficult. But still, the most relevant today are curtains made of fabric in a natural tone that has not been dyed.
If you are planning to sew curtains from burlap with your own hands, keep in mind that you can purchase it not only in stores specializing in the sale of fabrics. Burlap can also be found in hardware stores, workwear stores and art stores.
Create and imagine
Of course, curtains can be purchased in a store, but sewing burlap curtains for the kitchen yourself using a master class will not be difficult, because burlap is a material that is easy to process and very pliable. When buying fabric, you should take into account that the curtains should be 1.5-2 times wider than the window opening, while their length depends solely on your wishes.
Before sewing, burlap must be washed (but not ironed).
If edge processing is intended, the fabric should be cut with a margin (2-3 cm on each side). However, raw edges will look no worse.
Now all that remains is to sew on the loops or insert eyelets (if necessary). That's all, actually.
You can decorate the curtains in any way you like - with beads, ribbons, braid, tiebacks. All these elements are quite appropriate and well emphasize some of the roughness and simplicity of the material.
Burlap curtains go well with mesh curtains and plain tulle. They are good without any additions. Needless to say, curtains sewn at home will become a favorite decoration of your home, because such things always keep a piece of your soul and the warmth of your hands.
The best material for a better home
Why can burlap be called one of the best materials for making curtains? Firstly, it looks unusual and impressive, goes well with any fittings and fits well into the interior. Look at the burlap curtains in the photo.
Secondly, burlap is environmentally friendly. This fabric made from natural fibers does not contain toxic substances, which allows it to be used for decorating children's rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms.
In addition, this material does not require special care and is easy to process. And finally, burlap is very inexpensive.
If you are looking for original curtains and are not afraid of bold decisions, pay attention to burlap. With such curtains, the room will become even more comfortable, and guests will certainly appreciate your taste and sense of style.
Secrets of combination with other design elements and ideas for inspiration
The most important rule of a good interior is harmony. Despite its roughness and simplicity, burlap has a very impressive texture. Such fabric should be considered as one of the central elements of decor and its combination with other design components must be carefully considered.
Burlap curtains in the interior are so practical and versatile that with proper design they fit almost any, even glamorous, styles and look great not only in a country house or in a country house, but also in a city apartment. It’s easiest to fit them into rustic styles: American country, English shabby chic, French Provence, Russian hut style. They look no less harmonious in environmental designs: African, colonial, Japanese, Chinese, Scandinavian, Mediterranean and the like. Rough curtains are also appropriate in such fashionable styles as loft and pop art. And even in classic styles, provided that the model and accessories are selected correctly, they will find a worthy place.
Thick burlap curtains in the interior can be combined with light tulle. But you should avoid luxurious designs and bright colors. Choose tulle with a simple texture and lighter shades than the main curtains.
When choosing a model, it is better to avoid lush draperies and complex shapes. Multi-layering is also undesirable. But long curtains that trail along the floor with original tiebacks will fit even into a glamorous classic setting.
The only thing that can be allowed from the “excesses” of the cut in order to diversify the style is frills made of the same fabric or frills and inserts made of linen, cotton, coarse lace, colored satin or cotton lace or embroidered tulle like burlap curtains, the photo of which is presented above .
As additional decorative elements for burlap curtains, it is recommended to use non-standard clips and hangers, for example, made from ordinary twine or rope rope, accessories in an authentic style. An excellent solution would be original beads or laconic embroidery in colors that are present in the interior of the room.
Any sewing flaws on such curtains look as if they were made on purpose in order to emphasize the exclusivity of handmade work. For example, the lower or upper edges of the canvases can not be hemmed at all, but decorated with improvised fringe, and several rows of transverse threads pulled out.
Variety of models
Burlap holds its shape well and is perfect for sewing both classic long and short curtains, as well as lifting models. Choose from natural vertical pleats, straight window panels, or Roman or roller blinds to find the perfect option for any room in your home.
If you are going to use burlap curtains in the interior of a bathroom or kitchen, treat them with a special water-repellent treatment. They will get wet less and last much longer.
In any case, classic floor-length curtains look very presentable. And if real burlap seems too rough to decorate a room or living room, buy thick, durable, low-grade linen for sewing curtains, which is also often used as packaging fabric. This material is also convenient for making butterfly curtains that cover glass on interior doors.
Making short curtains from coarse fabric is as easy as shelling pears. In some cases, you won’t even need threads and needles, since the burlap sections, if the overall style of the decor allows, can be left unprocessed. It is enough to cut the canvas to the size of the window and hang it on the cornice using crocodile clips or twine threaded between loosely fitting weft threads.
Such curtains made from bags with stamps applied to them look especially impressive. If you can’t find real bags, you can apply a stencil to the fabric yourself, creating a pattern on the canvas that completely copies factory seals or your own exclusive print.
Roman and roller blinds made of burlap, photos of which are published above, look neat and presentable. You can sew simple rims or rolls attached above the window using Velcro tape yourself. It is better to make a roller or Roman blind with a shaft and a lifting mechanism to order from jute fabric.
Varieties
Before purchasing burlap, it is worth understanding the classification of types of such material.
- Jute is practical, functional, has excellent wear resistance and a pleasant golden brown color. There are also products in blue, white, black, fiery red, grass and purple colors.
- Linen - the material presents a palette of shades that is fashionable in the new season, from cream to dark brown. Using this material, you can effectively darken the room without overpaying for a fashionable blackout.
- Cotton , as the most affordable option, is most often used for sewing curtains. The palette contains only natural pastel shades: cream, beige, ivory, etc.
A beautiful curtain combines elegance and sophistication. The neutral color scheme of the material looks fashionable against the backdrop of bright walls. Outside, curtains will not attract the attention of prying eyes, and also prevent the passage of sunlight.
The ideal shape for a curtain made of such fabric is a rectangular, flat fabric. It can be decorated with floral draperies, plaits, flirty frills or lace ribbon. The shortened version is worth hanging in the kitchen or office.
Long curtains will decorate the bedroom, children's room, and living room. Forget about pretentious classics, Austrian and French curtains, extravagant curtains and drapes. Burlap is a fabric for simple curtains, including Roman and roller blinds.
As a decoration, you can come up with upholstery made of twine or jute rope. Both golden rope and openwork lace across the entire width of the curtain will look original. To prevent your apartment from looking like a “potato sack,” experts advise decorating burlap with inscriptions, seals, and ornaments.
This technique will create an “aging” effect and will greatly decorate a modern interior.
Burlap curtains: ready-made DIY curtain ideas
Correctly selected curtains can transform the design of any room and emphasize the chosen style solution. The finished interior will be complete if the emphasis is placed not only on the style, but also on the fabric and method of fastening. Original burlap curtains will diversify the room and bring some zest to it.

The simple charm of burlap
Burlap is a coarse fabric, usually in a natural color. The interweaving of threads is clearly visible in it, which gives the material a special charm. Fibers from flax, hemp, jute and other plants are used to make it. Pre-production processing makes them moderately soft and quite silky. But at the same time it preserves the natural texture of the material (Fig. 1).
The advantages of burlap as a fabric for home decoration include:
- strength;
- durability;
- originality of texture;
- undeniable environmental friendliness.
The most common types of burlap are:
Figure 2. You can emphasize the style of linen curtains using a tablecloth and pillows of the same color.
- Linen. It is made from fibers of the same name, the shade can vary from caramel to dark brown.
- Jute. Jute burlap is extremely practical to use, it does not delaminate, small fibers will not separate and pollute the room. The traditional color is golden brown, but this fabric can be easily dyed, and you can find green, blue, and red jute burlap on sale.
- Cotton burlap is quite inexpensive and practical. This material has a pleasant soft beige color.
Purchasing a quality cut is not as easy as it might seem. Fabric and accessories stores usually stock other examples, stylized to match the specific rough texture of burlap. To hunt for the right material, it is better to go to artist shops, wholesale warehouses of fabrics for workwear and hardware stores. The natural burlap purchased there will satisfy all your needs.
Beauty is in simplicity
Burlap is a fairly coarse fabric with noticeable weaves of threads. Usually it has a natural color, and such deliberate simplicity makes it especially interesting. As a rule, burlap is made from fibers of plants such as jute, flax, and hemp. Thanks to special processing, they become quite soft, while maintaining their natural texture. The distinctive properties of burlap are durability, environmental friendliness and unique appearance.
Currently, the most common types of burlap are:
- linen, in brown tones;
- cotton. This beige material is affordable and very common;
- jute. It can be called the most practical, because... it does not delaminate during operation. Fibers, thus, will not clog up the space, as is often the case when using items made from “loose” fabrics in the interior. Jute burlap, which has a golden-brown tint, is easily dyed, which makes it possible to produce fabrics of various colors, incl. and bright ones - red, blue, green.
Despite the wide selection, purchasing high-quality natural burlap is quite difficult. It is best to buy it not in retail outlets specializing in the sale of fabrics, but in artists’ shops, hardware stores, warehouses, etc.
It may seem that, at first glance, simple burlap curtains in the interior are suitable only for a summer house or country house, but this is not at all the case. They will also fit well into an urban interior, for example, in the popular eco, Provence or country styles, which are characterized by deliberate simplicity, slight negligence and closeness to nature. If your home is decorated in an authentic style (Hawaiian, African), you should also pay attention to burlap. Natural fabrics are the best find for those who keep up with the times. You can use them to create Roman blinds for the kitchen or for the windows of a summer gazebo.
Interior styles and ready-made ideas
Original burlap curtains will be a worthy decoration for almost any interior. They can complement a simple and charming country house, or bring a touch of eco-friendliness to a city apartment. The main thing is to choose the right style for decorating the room and emphasize the authenticity of the material with details.
Curtains made of rough textured fabric will be an excellent addition to a room decorated in country style. They will organically fit into the interior and emphasize the simplicity and charm of this style direction. Of course, do not forget about the popular Provence style. Its emphasized vintageness and demonstrative unpretentiousness are perfectly emphasized by curtains made of rough burlap. Curtains made from natural, undyed fabrics are the ideal solution for any authentic style. African, Hawaiian, Scandinavian, in any of them such curtains will become the highlight of the interior. And the ideal setting will be the increasingly popular eco-style. Against the backdrop of rapid urbanization and technological progress, more and more people prefer decorating their homes with natural materials. And curtains made from raw burlap fit perfectly into this style.
Figure 3. You can visually smooth out the roughness of burlap with the help of an elegant silk tieback.
In order for new eco-friendly curtains to delight you with beauty and practicality, you need to choose the right type of fastening. Due to its characteristics, burlap lays down in beautiful folds, but does not drape well, therefore, the design should be as simple as possible. String curtain rods are not always able to withstand the significant weight of such curtains. It is better to give preference to classic round cornices.
The rough beauty of burlap and the correct type of fastening will be emphasized. Original draperies and some rigidity of the material can be played up using grommet fastenings or loops. Common rings will also work. But you will have to abandon the drawstring, unless you plan to make the curtain stationary.
The unusual texture and special charm of burlap can be emphasized with the help of original tiebacks. Surprisingly, beads and lace go well with rough, untreated fabric, not to mention rope or hemp rope. Buy or sew curtain tiebacks yourself and change the look of the room depending on your mood. You can support the original decorative element with linen tablecloths, pillows or even a blanket (Fig. 2).
The main thing is details
Despite the fact that burlap fits perfectly with tails, it does not drape very well, so a thoughtful selection of the type of fastening is important. When creating curtains from burlap with your own hands, the best option would be traditional round curtain rods that can support the weight of such curtains.
You should not use a drawstring - give preference to rings, loops or grommet fastening.
Unusual tiebacks will truly transform burlap curtains. Their rough texture goes well with rope and hemp, but beads and lace, oddly enough, will look no less harmonious. Linen pillows, tablecloths, blankets will perfectly complement the ensemble, giving it completeness.
