Thanks to this detail, you will add an atmosphere of comfort to the interior, and the window will acquire a beautiful finished look. That is why decorating in this way is becoming more and more popular. Read on to learn how to hang a lambrequin on a double cornice.
The overall atmosphere of the room depends on the decor of the window.
Advantages
Velcro curtains are suitable for creating a laconic design.
The popularity of the Velcro fastening method is explained by the combination of the classic look of the canvas and convenient operation without the use of a curtain rod. Velcro curtains have a number of advantages:
- serve for a long time, Velcro does not lose its quality after washing;
- easy installation, a frame without a cornice is used;
- take up little space, use minimal space;
- convenient to remove, wash and attach with Velcro;
- there is a wide choice among models (Roman, Austrian, roller blinds, curtains with loops);
- dry and iron quickly.
How to attach a curtain to a window?
You can attach curtains with Velcro directly to the window frame, to the wall or to the rail, but the essence of the fastening remains the same; hooks and rings are also not used.
Installation on a plastic window
Velcro fastening to a plastic window does not violate the integrity of the window. Velcro is glued around the perimeter of the window, or only on the top and sides.
On the wall
When attaching to a wall, the hard part of the Velcro is fixed with screws or glue, and the soft part is sewn to the wrong side of the curtain.
On a wooden plank
The adhesive tape is attached to the wooden slats using glue or a stapler. The rail itself is attached to the wall with self-tapping screws.
Several main types of fastening lambrequins
To begin, you need to acquire the following elements in advance:
- cornice;
- double-sided adhesive tape;
- braid.
Before installation, you should decide on the width of the cornice; it can be slightly wider than the window opening or be located along the entire length of the wall. There are no strict regulations regarding this issue; here users are guided solely by personal preferences.
There are usually no problems with installing the cornice; you need to make markings and drill several holes with a hammer drill, into which dowels are then driven. Next comes the rigid base, and it is for this that you will need double-sided adhesive tape. To fix the tape more securely, you should use construction adhesive.
If the choice is made on a soft model, then very often braid (curtain or curtain tape) is used to secure such a fabric. Then you will need to sew a curtain tape to the product, and plastic hooks are inserted onto the front side of the fabric. The hooks must be evenly distributed along the entire length of the product, the distance should not be more than 10-15 cm, otherwise instead of neat folds you will get an ugly sagging of the fabric.
Kinds
Velcro curtains are most often short; they are most often presented on the market in a modern form.
Roman
Curtains with light folds and an opening mechanism are suitable for any interior and room. If each window has a different curtain length, the room will look unusual.
Japanese
Curtains look like fixed panels and are suitable not only for oriental style. Due to tension and weighting from below, the canvas retains its shape and will not move from the wind.
Rolled
Most often used to emphasize minimalism. Suitable for balcony, loggia. It is better to attach them to the window under each sash separately.
Installation Guide
On hinges
Curtains with Velcro loops are similar to regular curtains; they are attached to a curtain rod, but to remove them you do not need to remove the curtain rod, just undo the Velcro.
Second option
This method is more problematic and will require a little more time than the one described above. How to install a lambrequin using adhesive tape and a wooden plank:
- The curtain with a lambrequin is immediately hung on a double cornice. It is necessary to immediately give the products a beautiful appearance, since then changing any elements will be difficult.
- After the curtains are hung, this element will become the basis for additional fastening. On the inside of the curtain you need to sew adhesive tape, which will subsequently not be visible at all.
- Opposite the adhesive tape, a wooden strip must be installed on the cornice. This could be a neat beam or a round cane; the shape of this element does not matter.
This design allows you not only to quickly and easily remove the curtains, but also, if necessary, to beautifully move them apart.
Important advice! The product must be selected for a specific type of cornice. For example, any product will not fit on a round base; here you should choose a decorative element carefully, with places for fastening. Of course, if you make the wrong choice, you can redo the canvas yourself, but why waste extra time.
Also, before attaching the double cornice, you should know exactly the weight of the canvas. Installing a lambrequin on an insufficiently strong base will lead to the fact that all the work will have to be redone, since such a cornice will not withstand for a long time.

Choice of material and color
The fabric should not be heavy, this is the main condition. Therefore, lightweight natural or synthetic material is suitable.
For a balcony, it is best to use a fabric mixed with polyester or organza, because it does not fade in the sun and dries quickly.
Natural fabrics include linen, cotton, jacquard, satin and bamboo, which are impregnated with a special dirt-repellent mixture.
When choosing a fabric color, it is important to maintain a consistent style. They can be neutral beige, white, pastel colors, or bright colors, with inserts or patterns. Different windows in the same room can be decorated with different colors. They can be combined with wallpaper, repeat its design, or be plain.

Photos in the interior
Velcro curtains can be sheer or thick, depending on the fabric chosen. They darken the room better because there is no free space between the curtain and the window.
Balcony or loggia
Velcro curtains are often used to cover windows on balconies and loggias. This is a convenient and economical way to hide a room from sunlight and views from the street through the rational use of material. A curtain with Velcro is a convenient option for decorating a door to a balcony, since there is no cornice or hanging fabric above it, the curtain does not touch the curtain when leaving and the passage remains free.
Kitchen
Velcro curtains are suitable for the kitchen if the window is located above the sink or stove, and also if the window sill will be actively used as a shelf or an additional workplace.
Children's
Velcro curtains made of thick fabric are suitable for the nursery; this will ensure a sound daytime sleep for the child.
Living room
In the living room, ordinary curtains or tulle can be supplemented with curtains that are attached to the window frame with Velcro. Japanese Velcro curtains will look good in a small living room.
Bedroom
For the bedroom, translucent Roman blinds with Velcro or thick ones with a jacquard pattern are suitable. The uniqueness of such curtains is that they fit any bedroom style.
Peculiarities
Before you become familiar with the methods of attaching lambrequins, you need to understand what these products are. Textiles are one of the decorative elements of drapery. Basically, lambrequins are located in a horizontal position on top of the curtains.
The products are used on massive thick curtains that decorate spacious rooms.
Often, various elements are used to decorate the lambrequins themselves. These include:
Most often, textile products are used as a complement to classic interiors. It is known that this trend is pretentious and loves various decorative elements that can fully emphasize the expensive furnishings.
Today there are several main types of lambrequins:
- The most popular options include soft models that are easy to attach. Basically, the same fabric from which other window design elements are made is used for sewing. These lambrequins are attached to curtains or cornices.
- But rigid lambrequins need a strong frame for fixation. For more convenient fastening, an element such as Velcro is used.
- A universal type can be called combined models that combine the features of the two previous options. In this case, soft elements are used as a complement to the hard base.
How to sew curtains with Velcro
Fabric consumption is individual, depending on the size of the window and the selected fabric.
Materials and tools:
- textile,
- Velcro tape,
- sewing machine,
- scissors,
- ruler.
Operating procedure
- Take measurements of the window. For a four-leaf window 265 cm wide, you need to make 4 curtains, each 66 cm wide (264/4), where 1 cm is subtracted from the total width of the window. The height is measured with a Velcro allowance of 2.5 cm at the top and bottom. For a window height of 160 cm, add 5 cm.
- For each curtain you need to sew 4 ties from the same or a different fabric. For one tie you need to take a piece 10 cm wide and curtain height + 5 cm. The bottom of the tie is sewn.
- Then fold the tie in half and sew along the length from the inside out.
- Turn it inside out, fold the seam allowances on the long side and stitch. Iron all ties. You can also make ties from lace or bobbin ribbon.
- Cut the curtains to size, taking into account side allowances of 2 cm on each side and a bottom allowance of +1 cm. Fold the sides of the curtain, then the bottom of the curtain using the soft part of the Velcro so that it is on the wrong side.
- Pin soft Velcro to the top of the curtain on the front side, 1 cm away from the top. Measure 7 cm from the edge of the curtain on both sides and place one tie under the Velcro at the bottom. Sew.
- Fold the Velcro to the wrong side and stitch, adding 1 tie at a time. The curtain is ready.
- Degrease with a product (alcohol, nail polish remover) the place on the frame where the hard part of the Velcro will be glued. For convenience, you can cut the Velcro into pieces and glue them end to end.
- To fix the bottom of the curtain, it is enough to use hard Velcro around the edges.
Using the ties, you can lower and raise the curtains, you can also make a pocket at the bottom for the slats, then the Austrian curtains will turn into Japanese ones.
When the curtains are attached with Velcro to the frame, they will protect the house from insects and will not come off in the wind thanks to the lower Velcro fastening. Such curtains are easy to remove and wash, they have an aesthetic appearance from the inside and outside.

DIY curtains with Velcro hinges
To make it easier to remove curtains from the curtain rod, you can sew Velcro to the loops.
Materials and tools:
- sewing machine,
- iron,
- scissors,
- pins,
- cardboard,
- textile.
Operating procedure:
- The width of the curtain is calculated by the formula: subtract the length of the loops from the distance from the cornice to the desired length, then add 1 cm for processing the top and 6 cm for processing the bottom.
- Calculation for loops. The width of the loop (any) is multiplied by 2 and to the resulting number add 2 cm for allowances. Loop length * 2 cm + 4 cm for allowances.
- The number of loops is calculated as follows: the width of the curtain is divided by the width of one loop. The loops on a curtain are arranged like this: multiply the number of loops by their width, subtract from the width of the finished curtain, and divide the resulting number by the number of distances between the loops. For example, 75-5*5=50. 50/4 = 12.5, which means that every 12.5 cm you will need to pin a loop with the seam up.
- Finish the side seams of the curtain. Make an allowance mark, iron the fold and stitch from the wrong side.
- Let's prepare the loops. Fold pieces of fabric of the required width and length face inward and sew along the length with an indentation of 1 cm from the edge. Steam the loop with the cardboard inside so that the seam does not leak. Turn the product inside out, placing the seam in the center; also steam the seam with the cardboard inside.
- Sew pinned loops.
- We prepare a facing that is as long as the width of the curtain and 5 cm wide. Steam it.
- Attach the curtain to the top from the front side, covering the loops with it. Attach with pins and stitch, leaving a free edge of 1 cm at the top.
- Steam the seam and free edge, then fold the side edge under and pin.
- Apply rigid Velcro tape with a width equal to the width of the loop under each loop and stitch from the inside with one line.
- Fold the edge of the facing and stitch, making an indent of 1 mm from the edge.
- Place the soft part of the Velcro on the free edge of the tie on the front side, equal to the width of the loop and the height of the hard part of the Velcro. Sew.
- From the wrong side, sew Velcro on all sides.
- Treat the bottom of the curtain. Iron and stitch the reserved allowance. The Velcro curtain with loops is ready and can be hung on the window.
