We must pay tribute to the ancient Egyptian craftsmen who came up with the idea of attaching a back to the stool, turning it into a chair. Chair designs have changed over thousands of years, but the basic design remains the same today!
The chair has firmly entered the everyday life of each of us. We drink our morning coffee, sitting on it at the kitchen table, have a leisurely conversation, enjoying the company of dear people in a cozy cafe, and help our son or daughter do his homework.
Due to its active use, the upholstery of chairs becomes unusable. Spots, scuffs, and cracks appear on it, which makes it less aesthetically pleasing. Upholstering chairs with natural or artificial leather is the ideal solution for updating them. It will also help to harmoniously fit old furniture into the room if it is renovated with a new design.

Upholstering kitchen chairs with leather is the optimal solution!
Kitchen chairs wear out quite quickly, due to the fact that they are used much more often than, for example, a set in the dining room. No matter how durable and practical fabric upholstery is on kitchen chairs, it loses its appeal faster than leather upholstery. Eco-leather for kitchen chairs is an excellent alternative to fabric options. It is easy to clean with the simplest detergents, is resistant to UV radiation and retains its attractiveness for a long period of time.
Today, many in the kitchen use not only the usual chairs and stools, but also kitchen corners. They are practical and comfortable, allowing you to rationally use all the free space in the room. Modern models are also functional, offering to use the space under the seat as a place to store kitchen utensils.
Upholstering a kitchen corner with leather is an opportunity not only to give old furniture a second life, but also to save the family budget. Buying a new corner will cost several times more than restoring an existing one.
Material selection
Upholstery can be made from: natural leather, leatherette, fabric based on natural threads, synthetic materials and other types of textiles. When replacing a snake spring, it is necessary to fix it on the block with special fasteners. In this case, it is necessary to use staples with long legs. To ensure that the new upholstery pleases you with its quality for a long time, place pieces of fabric between the wires. This will help the foam last longer.
After successfully upholstering the chair, you absolutely need to start reupholstering other pieces of furniture. The operating principle will always be the same.

It is difficult to definitively answer how much it will cost to restore a chair, since the price of the service depends on several factors:
- material used;

Requirements for fabrics for upholstery of chairs
- Wear resistance;
- The ability to maintain the original shade for a long time;
- Ability to withstand cleaning agents;
- The ability to maintain an intact texture for a long time, without rolling;
- Fire resistance;
- The presence of special impregnations that help preserve the fabric for as long as possible.
Fabric for upholstery of chairs is usually selected according to several criteria.
The first, of course, is the price. There are expensive and luxury upholstery fabrics, these include genuine leather, suede, and natural jacquard. Cheaper upholstery fabrics for chairs are flock, adhesive-based jacquard, chenille, tapestry, velor, matting, microfiber, and artificial leather.
The second criterion: is it natural or artificial fabrics. Some people prefer natural ones, but they do not have high strength, they wrinkle easily and fade in the sun. Therefore, experts advise choosing mixed upholstery fabrics, which contain both natural and artificial fibers. Although modern fabrics mostly combine these properties, as well as a number of other advantages that make chairs comfortable, practical and aesthetically attractive.
Third criterion: fabric color. It is customary to choose the color of upholstery fabric, guided by the rule of 60%, 30% and 10%, where 60% is the color of the walls or wallpaper in the room, 30% is the color of furniture and 10% is the color of accessories and trims.
Chair upholstery: step-by-step master class
I present to you a step-by-step master class on upholstery using a chair as an example.
Perhaps the antique dealers, having seen this master class, would not only throw slippers at me, but perhaps even crucify me. Since in all antique chairs and armchairs the seat is supported by springs, the filling is horsehair and sea grass. The pillow itself, before it is attached to the springs, is formed, stitched, and a rigid border is made along the edge. Well, etc., there are many nuances, even to the point that the stapler is not used, but is covered with small forged nails. This is what professional upholsterers do, but you and I need to try to reupholster our chairs at home in the most acceptable way for us. So.
We will need a prepared chair, a seat (preferably made of thick plywood), foam rubber (preferably thick furniture grade), of the required height, padding polyester (preferably two types: weaving and thick furniture 200), fabric for rough upholstery, decorative fabric, a piece of thick burlap or linen, decorative cord.
And also a stapler (can be manual), staples for a stapler (8 or 10mm), glue for foam rubber, scissors, a mounting knife, fabric glue (you can use moment-crystal), PVA glue
1. Rough seat upholstery
We coat the seat with glue for foam rubber, not greasy, the main thing for us is that the foam rubber does not fidget when we upholster it.
glue the foam rubber, you can press it with something for 10-15 minutes.
Then use a knife to cut off all excess. You can cut out the foam rubber in advance, according to the pattern and glue the finished one, it’s whenever it’s more convenient.
We put thin foam rubber on top (thickness 2.5-3 cm) it is larger in size. More around the entire perimeter by the thickness of the first layer of foam rubber.
Take a pre-cut piece of fabric. The fabric for rough upholstery should be thin but durable. It is best to use calico, but you can use any other material you have in your bins. I had this one. And we begin to staple, tightening the foam with fabric
The main principle of any upholstery is the drum principle. Those. We pull the fabric very tightly over the filling. We stretch equally in all directions.
where the backrest is attached to the seat, we make cuts
and tighten it too. It’s convenient for two people to work, to make it easier to tighten, you can even sit someone on a chair))) the foam will press down and you won’t need to make much effort)))
During the tying process, you will most likely encounter a situation where the fabric nearby is tightened more tightly. Take a thin screwdriver, pull out the staple, tighten the fabric and staple again
When everything is tightened, we cut off the excess fabric with scissors. This is what our seat should look like
2. Upholstery of the back part.
We take decorative fabric and cut it according to the pattern of the back. We cut with a margin of 2-3 cm. We need these cm in order to make it more convenient to pull. Let's iron!!!!! And we begin to staple, also according to the drum principle.
Trim the excess fabric around the perimeter and grease the edges with PVA glue
3. Rough upholstery on the front and back.
We cut out a thin padding polyester according to the pattern, apply it, and put burlap on top. We staple the burlap to the back. Again on the drum principle. This is something like a stiffener.
We build a pyramid of padding polyester on burlap. We need the back to be rounded. We put a thick furniture synthetic padding polyester, also cut according to a pattern, on the pyramid, a rough fabric on top and again staple it according to the drum principle
4. Upholstery of the seat and back with decorative fabric.
Ironing the fabric
We apply decorative fabric and start shooting, all according to the same principle)
When everything is ready, trim off the excess fabric
We work in the same way with the back.
This is what we should get
4. Bottom upholstery.
Our chair should be beautiful from all sides!!! Don't forget about the bottom
5. Pasting with decorative cord.
We coat the cord with glue and glue it. For fixation I use tailor's pins
After about two hours you can pull out all the pins. Our chair is ready!!! HOORAY!!!!
Thanks everyone for your attention!

Upholstery materials
When choosing a material, you need to take into account the style of the interior and the tastes of the owners, as well as the purpose of the chair. So, for kitchen chairs it is better to use thick fabric that is easy to clean. Leatherette will give the furniture an expensive, solid look, but the service life of this material is shorter than that of fabric upholstery.
The most commonly used materials for upholstery:
- Flock is pleasant to the touch, easy to care for, suitable if there are animals in the house.
- Genuine leather is an expensive material, but after restoration you will get a beautiful chair with a long service life.
- Eco-leather, dermantin - have the external characteristics of natural material, but are inferior in quality to leather.
- Chenille is an affordable, beautiful fabric with an interesting texture. Although chenille is wear-resistant, it is not suitable for covering kitchen furniture, as it absorbs moisture well.
- Tapestry is an excellent option for upholstery. The fabric not only looks very aesthetically pleasing, but is also practical to use, durable, and does not fade in the sun.
Contact us at the specified phone number, and soon a specialist will come to your home. You will discuss all the details, and in a short time you will receive updated furniture, which will be much more pleasant to use.
Reviews
We wanted to update several chairs - upholstering the backs and seats. An employee came to the house, discussed all the details, and chose the fabric. The chairs now look like new, they were done quickly and professionally.
We used the chairs in the kitchen for 7 years and decided to reupholster them. I was pleased with the efficiency of the employees - the designer arrived quickly, agreed on the price, selected the material, and decided on the date. We didn’t have to wait long, we now have great “new” chairs!
We had a couple of old chairs, in the Viennese style. We decided not to part with them, but to update them. The seats were hard, so they decided to make new, soft ones. The designer recommended a chic fabric, the backs and legs were painted, the chairs turned out stylish and look great!
