Filament curtains for the kitchen: types and advantages of use, photos of fashionable combinations

Thread curtains will be a stylish alternative to classic curtains in the kitchen interior. We are already tired of tulle curtains and checkered curtains a la “fairytale window”.

How do thread models differ from regular curtains? The name implies the peculiarities of the execution of such curtains. Classic muslin is made from synthetic narrow vertical flaps. These are flat smooth strips up to 2 cm wide (noodles), spiral or straight threads.

Manufacturers offer ready-made and designer solutions with beads, fringe, lurex, and handmade accessories. Thread curtains are available in options made from natural and synthetic fibers.

Advantages and disadvantages

Rope curtains are so often used in the kitchen because:

  1. Dust does not stick to them. Unlike solid fabric, threads are treated in production with a special compound that prevents dust from sticking to the surface. Therefore, they need to be cleaned either very rarely or not at all.
  2. Mounting options. It is important to note that there is no exact method of fastening, so thread curtains in the kitchen interior can be fixed on grommets, hooks, and even on a roller curtain rod.
  3. Virtually no maintenance. It is important to note the fact that they can be simply placed in the washing machine, unlike other types of curtains. No need to pre-soak or hand wash.
  4. They do not trap air. Unlike all other types of curtains, muslin allows air to pass through much better. And this allows you to fill the kitchen with freshness at any time.
  5. Easy to decorate. If you need short thread curtains in the interior, just take scissors and shorten the existing muslin. At the same time, it will not lose its qualities. Modern materials do not fray when cut.
  6. Manifold. Probably, no other type of curtain has such a variety of colors, so there are a lot of possibilities for decoration here.

You may notice that thread curtains in the kitchen are convenient and beautiful. In fact, in some cases, this is the only way to design a small dining room. But we must not forget about the disadvantages that muslin also has:

  1. Kisya gets confused. For this curtain, tangling is natural, but sometimes it brings additional inconvenience. Tangles are especially typical for beads that practically do not unravel.
  2. The problem is aggravated if cats live at home. They love to play with threads. Which will cause them to get confused even more often. Serious problems also often occur, such as flap ruptures or fraying from claws.
  3. A similar problem exists with children. But here everything is aggravated by the risk of injury from muslin for kids, as they often get entangled in them and get injured.
  4. It should not be used near ovens or gas stoves. Individual threads fall into the area of heat and begin to smolder (especially typical for synthetic fabrics). The danger is that the source may not be immediately noticeable, but with active air entry, the likelihood of a fire increases.
  5. Moodiness. Despite their overall beauty, thread curtains are monstrously capricious in design. The slightest discrepancy between the interior and the muslin will be alien. This will be the weak point of the design and will lead to imbalance

Memo: tips for choosing

  1. When choosing rope decor, pay attention to practical polyester options that can be machine washed.
  2. Take care of the safety of the rope structure for your household.
  3. Be sure to use your imagination. Try different ways of weaving and draping straight muslin.
  4. Washing textile muslin is not difficult: just braid 3-4 braids from threads, wash in the machine on the “synthetic” or “delicate fabrics” mode. Unravel the braids and hang them raw. They will dry right on the cornice.
  5. If you want to freshen up your kitchen on a budget, opt for either a mushy “rainbow” or a rich monochromatic curtain.
  6. Curtains made of threads will stylishly complete the interior composition of a kitchen of any size or design.

Types of filament curtains for the kitchen

A regular noodle curtain for the kitchen. The simplest type. It represents a fabric consisting of a mass of thin threads. They are all lowered vertically and have no additions. The canvas can be painted in different colors. There is even a coloring with a gradient.

Spirals. The threads in this model are wrapped in a spiral and resemble more of a rope. They are voluminous, which creates additional texture. They are more convenient because they practically do not wrap. In a house with pets and children, the spirals practically do not get tangled.

Rainbow. It differs from the usual one only in the pattern, in which the threads are a kind of melange. The tone is chosen in such a way that each of them differs by 1 shade, which makes the drawing more interesting.

Bead and glass beads. Unlike standard muslin, they have additional decorations. Often, a diamond or heart pattern is created from glass beads. All the remaining space is occupied by beads. Decorations can be installed in random order or in a checkerboard pattern.

Lurex. This is a fabric with special metallic reflections. It comes in different colors, but the most common is rain technology. In this case, silver threads are used that look like streams of water. The downside of Lurex is that it is somewhat difficult to decorate. He is very sensitive to colors and a little too much will lead to alienation and detachment.

Sequins. These are disk glitters that are used to decorate threads. Very bright and shiny, they make the room more beautiful and pleasant. But, as with lurex, you need to ensure its combination with the design. It's easy to get oversaturated with colors and end up with a tacky style.

Plush threads. A very interesting variety. Best suited for warm, clean rooms without unnecessary details.

Pano. Connected into a single picture.

Feathers. A very unusual way in which thread curtains for the kitchen are intertwined with natural or artificial feathers.

Curtains with strings in the kitchen do not have to be hung alone. They are often supplemented with textiles. Kisey is not always able to fully satisfy the light adjustment. That is why it is often complemented with tulle. If you need to close the window completely, classic curtains are also suitable.

It is important that the rope curtains are in the foreground against their background. This will highlight them and create the main design.

In what interior styles are they used?

Thread curtains suit virtually any style. The integrity of the kitchen interior depends on their design:

  • Classic. For the classic style, standard types of thread curtains are appropriate, without ruffles, beads, or lurex. Popular colors are white, beige, light brown. Matte threads look beautiful. In this style they are usually combined with classic drapes or curtains.

  • If the kitchen is in an ethnic style, muslin with decorations - beads, sequins, bugles - look beautiful. The sun is reflected in these details and visually enlarges the space. Most often these are white threads woven into a bundle and set aside. A combination of colors, such as black and white, looks beautiful.

  • In the high-tech style, only white and black threads are used. Another color palette is not appropriate here, since high technology is associated only with futuristic colors. High-tech is simplicity, so decoration in the form of beads or glass beads is not suitable here, nor is the use of muslin in the kitchen in combination with other types of curtains.

  • Minimalism. Just like the previous style, it is associated with simplicity. Standard white muslin, divided into separate connected bundles, looks beautiful in kitchens. This will free up space.

  • Eco. Natural style, which uses curtains made from natural materials - cotton, bamboo, linen. The color should be combined with nature - green, brown, lemon. A combination of several colors looks beautiful.

  • Baroque. In the kitchen, thread curtains in noble colors - burgundy, purple, dark green - look beautiful. Options with beads, drapery, tassels and tiebacks would not be out of place.

Combination of muslin with other elements

If you look at a photo of thread curtains in the kitchen, you will notice their easy arrangement with other elements. For example, it goes well with all light fabrics: voile, tulle, chintz, organza.

Looks good together with regular heavy curtains as a light contrast. Ultimately, they look great as a pelmet. When asked: how to beautifully hang curtains in the kitchen, it’s even possible to combine them with each other. Just the threads of different colors are already impressive.

Recommendations

The choice of color is no different from other curtains. It depends on the environment. If you are planning design options for a window with a balcony door, then it is better to choose white or, conversely, black muslin.

If you don’t want the curtain to blend into the interior, you can take the same color, but 2 shades darker. For designs in light colors like beige or yellow, it is best to choose complementary colors.

In the case where the muslin is not alone, but framed with tulle or curtains, they should not merge with it - since there will be no point in them. It is best for them to stand out brightly against their background, which will make them more expressive. Any communication technology can be used: analogy, complement, triad, tetrad, depending on the connection with the environment. Wallpaper or paint play an important role in the perception of curtains.

How to wash properly

  • To wash thread curtains, you need to carefully twist them into fabric, tie them with fabric in several places (you can also tie them in a knot or braid them), and then place them in a special bag (nylon tights are suitable). If you don’t tie the strings first, they will get tangled and it will be very difficult to untangle them;
  • After washing, the noodles dry quickly - there is no need to specially dry them, just hang them on the ledge immediately, where they will straighten out under their own weight and dry. In this case, they must first be hung in a tied form, and then gradually untie the strings and unravel the tangled threads;
  • You can also take the muslin to the dry cleaner.
