Houses - timber - country house - wooden - frame, do they require finishing of the facade?
If you need to update the appearance of your home, then using a block house would be an excellent solution. It will be able to give the house a beautiful color, and will keep the house warm. There are a lot of types and sizes of block houses, but it is important to choose a quality product and carry out repairs yourself and how to choose a block house. In this article we will understand everything.
What is a block house?
This is a type of dry molded product that can imitate the surface of a rounded log. This material is produced according to the “square in a circle” principle. It turns out to be a rectangular board, and everything is rounded at the edges. The boards undergo thermal and sanitary treatment using special equipment. Next, the boards are sent to machines, where fastening tenons and grooves are made.
If you look at the photo of the block house, the type of this product looks interesting. The block house is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation. Currently, this product is very relevant, because the most nondescript facade, after finishing with a block house, plays with completely different colors. Gazebos and bathhouses in this design look very beautiful.
Wood is a breathable and capricious material, so it has many disadvantages. But despite all the disadvantages, the block house looks very beautiful. The block house will not have an ideal surface, but the wood has this unique pattern on a single board. But the appearance of a block house depends on its type.
Video description
In the video, the master shares the method of forming the corner of a wooden house covered with a block house:
In principle, this is all that concerns the finishing of a wooden house from the outside with a block house. Let us add that today the building materials market offers a huge variety of products from different construction categories. This primarily concerns insulation materials. For example, if a house is made of logs, then it is difficult to work with slab thermal insulation materials in this situation. At the same time, they form joints, which are weak areas in the thermal insulation layer. The slabs do not tightly cover the entire uneven structure of the wall surface. Therefore, it is recommended to use bulk insulation, for example, penoizol crumbs.
This material is breathable, fills uneven areas of the wall well, penetrating even the smallest pores and cracks. To fill it, no protective films or membranes are required. The main task is to evenly distribute the insulation.
The thermal insulation process itself is simple:
- install several boards on the frame (from bottom to top);
- fill the space between them and the wall of the house with insulation along the upper edge of the topmost lamella;
- carry out installation of the following cladding elements;
- again fill the formed space;
- and in this way until the end .
Block house varieties
There are three grades of molded products. Some manufacturers work according to technical specifications, but they are still as close as possible to the state standard.
There is also a type of block house “Extra”, but you rarely see it on sale, it is very expensive, but of high quality. This block house is perfectly planed, there are no knots or damage. Sorting and selection is done only manually.
- Class A, as a rule, is also very well planed, but there may be knots, but there should be no mechanical damage.
- In class B, the front side is planed normally. Several cracks, knots, and darkening of the wood may appear. Minor mechanical damage to the block house is also allowed.
- In class C, wormholes in knots and even bark remains can be tolerated.
Some buyers consider the third grade to be defective, but in reality this is not the case. But still, all external defects are classified as third grade. These external imperfections can be eliminated using wood sealant. If there are other colors in the block house, then the surface is treated with wood bleach.
Even green mold can be easily removed and it’s not a big deal. The boards only need to be dried, and then the greens can be easily removed. And in the end there is nothing left. But then you will need to treat the boards with an antiseptic and carefully treat them.
Alta-Profile
The manufacturer Alta-Profile specializes in the production of house panels from PVC and acrylic . The imitation of wood panels exactly matches the texture of natural materials. The advantage of Alta-Profile coating is ease of installation, affordable cost, and environmental friendliness of the material.
Vinyl structures are distinguished by their ability to withstand low temperatures. Acrylic material includes high-tech modern polymers that provide the coating with rich color and durability.
Technical characteristics of Alta-Profile:
- panel length - 310 cm;
- width - from 20 to 32 cm;
- thickness - 0.11 cm.
The material is sorted into packages of 12 or 16 pieces.
IMPORTANT!
Alta-Profile products regularly undergo all stages of product quality testing, which is confirmed by relevant documentation.
Alta-Profile occupies a leading position in the market in the field of finishing materials.
Wood used
In Russia, most logging is done from conifers: pine and spruce. Undoubtedly, a block house made of pine has more advantages than a spruce one. If you choose between spruce and pine, you need to choose pine.
A pine and spruce block house is not suitable for baths and saunas, as it will release resin and dark spots may appear. Siberian larch is ideal for a bathhouse.
Some elite varieties of larch, oak, birch and other trees are also sold in stores. This block house is often made to order and used as additional decor. A block house made of pine needles is very suitable in terms of price-quality ratio.
Raw materials used and production
A block house can be made from almost any wood. Deciduous round timber can be used for this: oak, aspen, alder, linden. However, products made from pine or spruce have gained the most popularity. Domestic needles are relatively inexpensive, they tolerate changes in humidity well and are quite durable.
Important! To make a block house, exclusively healthy, living forest is selected. The use of dead wood or burnt wood for a block house is unacceptable, due to a decrease in the strength characteristics and durability of such raw materials.
To obtain a block house, the log is first cut into edged lumber. Then the workpieces of suitable cross-section (this can be either a timber or a board) are combined into bags and placed in drying chambers. Through controlled heat treatment, the moisture content of materials is reduced to 10-12%, which makes it possible to obtain a stable workpiece that can be processed efficiently on machines.
Then, high-speed cutting equipment is used to mill the working elements of the part (rounded front side, back flat side with grooves, tenon/groove). The house block lamella is usually formed in one or two passes and then trimmed to length.
At the final stage, the products are inspected, measured and sorted into categories, depending on the identified defects (wood defects, processing flaws...) and deviations from the specified dimensions. The very last operation can be packaging of profiled parts in protective polyethylene film.

Production scheme
Packaging a profiled product that has undergone multi-stage processing is an important circumstance, because allows you to maintain the moisture of the product and protects it from dust and dirt. If the seller offers you to purchase a block house without vacuum packaging, then most likely you are buying a low-quality product with natural moisture and, as a result, during operation, it will begin to crack and twist. Be careful and don't make decisions based solely on the cheap price.
Block house dimensions
The geometric dimensions of a block house come in a wide variety. The length of the block house is 6 and 3 meters. But 6 meters are quite rare, and they cost more. The width of the house block can be with or without tongue and groove. A wide block house is used for exterior decoration, and a narrow one for interior decoration.
The thickness is measured at the high rounded part, it completely depends on the width. The price tag may indicate a working surface or a general surface; you need to pay attention to this.
When you have already selected a block house and the calculation of the required material is behind you, it is important to check what storage conditions this material has. This product requires careful storage and protection from moisture. The room in which the block house is stored must be unheated, but it can also be stored simply under a closed canopy.
There is no need to buy a block house if its packaging is dirty. When purchasing, it is important to decide for which construction site a block house is specifically needed. When installed, it will not take up much space, but on the contrary, will create warmth and comfort in the house.
The installation principle is very similar to lining. And the service life is quite long.
In the modern world, you can make a beautiful home decoration without resorting to significant costs. If the installation is done efficiently, it may even seem that the house is on a wooden frame, when in fact it is not.
In general, when choosing a block house, it is best to be guided by the height of the building: the larger the building, the wider the wooden block house will be.
Types of imitation logs
An alternative to wooden cladding in the form of lining can be a coating made of other materials:
- metal Steel galvanized wood-look siding in the form of clapboard is used to imitate natural wood. The material has high strength, fire resistance, moisture resistance, color brightness, and sun resistance. The disadvantage of the coating is the ability to heat up, thereby providing an increased temperature in the room;
- vinyl. PVC imitation has strength, resistance to moisture, a wide range of colors, low cost, but tends to fade in the sun and is brittle at low temperatures;
- acrylic The ability to withstand sunlight and increased strength distinguishes acrylic panels from vinyl. The material is quite durable and most in demand.
NOTE!
High-quality imitation of wooden lining is achieved through the manufacture of the material in high-tech production.
The use of high-quality polymers and dyes gives the material a visual similarity to wood.
