When a child reaches six years old, every parent faces the pressing question of organizing a workspace for him.
Today everyone is trying to create a place in the apartment that can solve several problems at once. This includes the ergonomics of the design, the ability for it to “grow” with the child, ease of use, and zoning of the nursery space.
Thus, there is a need to create a kind of work area, a schoolchild’s corner, in which it will be possible to concentrate the child’s creative energy and protect the remaining elements of the apartment.
My first corner
If you still have a year or two left before school, then you can safely design a schoolchild’s children’s corner. That is, use cheerful colors, a small folding desk and a chair.
Folding children's furniture is very convenient due to its maneuverability, and can be moved to any other room at any time.
If you are planning a stationary children's school corner with a bed, the wall behind it can be decorated with vinyl stickers or a poster with your favorite pieces of wood or Be-be-bears.
Next to the children's school corner, for convenience, you can place a small chest of drawers or a couple of drawers for storing necessary things.
A pull-out shelf is often installed under the desk, in which you can place small toys, notebooks, albums and safe drawing tools. It is still better to hide gouache, scissors and other sharp and dirty objects higher up and give them out only under the supervision of parents.
Choosing a place
If the area of the room allows, you can design three separate zones: work, play and sleep.
That is, the bed stands separately, away from the window, the table stands separately, closer to the source of natural light, cabinets along the walls so that they take up less space.
If this is not possible, then you can arrange a quite cozy school corner in a small room. In this case, you can purchase a loft bed, safely place the sleeping place on the upper tier, a desk on the lower tier, and it is quite possible to build a closet with clothes and writing instruments into this design on the side.
Lighting
It is important to make the light in several levels in order to illuminate each zone separately and create peace before a night's rest. In addition to the lamp on the ceiling, you will need table lamps and wall sconces. Spot lighting devices can be built into ceiling structures. Colored lighting is suitable for highlighting areas.
Photos from 2022 demonstrate the ideal interior and furniture designs for children's rooms for schoolchildren. The space can be decorated in different ways. The main thing is that the environment motivates personal development. It is necessary to create an atmosphere for this.

Corner for girls
How is a schoolchild’s corner fundamentally different for a girl? First of all, the choice of colors, from bright pink to pale purple. They look organically with each other and with any white furniture. Then it will be enough to decorate the bed with a blanket and pillows, and the window with curtains in the same color scheme.
You can use a non-standard tactic for choosing furniture: first, trust your daughter to choose a lamp for the table, and then, based on the chosen item, select all the other elements.
If you prefer high-tech, then you can choose the design of a school corner for a girl as something more adult and less dirty; if the choice falls on a pony with butterflies, you can’t do without the theme of beautiful princesses with chests for storing secrets.
Note! Don’t forget to build a crossbar into the closet for hanging dresses and other wrinkled items; this is very important for girls.
Student tables and chairs: what you need to know
We have already studied the orthopedic requirements for school furniture in detail. Remember? In addition to selecting furniture for the child’s height, we try to choose tabletops with adjustable inclination for various types of activities: from reading to creativity, and we also exclude swivel chairs from the list so as not to give a reason to turn the lesson into a circus attraction.
From the story about growing furniture, we learned that the ideal option for a first-grader would be a transformable desk.
What else is important for furniture? Psychologists say that you should not forget about color. So, too bright colors are perceived as “wow” only in the first few hours and gradually begin to irritate the eyes. Make a choice in favor of the “golden mean”. It can be beige, light coffee, marsh, yellow tones, even red, but warm shades - all of them will not tire.
Corner for a boy
Every boy, big and small, needs boxes, and the more the better.
School corner for a boy
School corner for a boy
A schoolchild's children's corner without a bed is perfectly equipped with plastic boxes or a wooden bedside table on wheels, which can be rolled under the table and taken out again if necessary.
He himself will find something to fill them with, be it a herd of dinosaurs or his favorite construction set.
Guys usually don't care much about the location of their school supplies.
Therefore, it is worth initially setting aside a separate shelf or cabinet with compartments for them - for textbooks, for pens, for transparent folders and covers, so that, if necessary, you can quickly get ready and run.
At first it will be difficult for him to get used to not creating chaos in this closet, but, with the help of parental patience, order will become the norm.
Later, the boy will appreciate the convenience of organizing space, because it is much easier to take something right away, rather than rummaging through a pile in search of a pencil case.
For two children
Happy parents of two, three or more children have a huge incentive to create a compact but functional corner for all children at once.
There is an interesting design solution - one long and wide tabletop, several chairs are installed along the window, and each student has his own place to complete assignments or creative sketches.
A wardrobe with separate labeled shelves for things and lower drawers for school supplies would be convenient.
It’s worth setting aside a place for briefcases and attaching strong metal hooks to the wall with self-tapping screws.
A schoolchild's corner for two children should be convenient for everyone; you should not take them one standard-sized table and expect a calm distribution of time and a table for two.
It is better, in a small room, to make folding desks and narrow chairs, but for everyone.
For two boys, a bunk bed would be appropriate, and for stylization, you can attach a rope ladder and dummies of lifebuoys, anchors to it, and decorate it with stickers in the theme.
For two girls on such a bed, you can create a cozy space with the help of sliding curtains right around the bed and a ladder with many shelves leading to the second floor.
What should a children's writing corner be like?
- Durable. The schoolchild's corner for a child from seven years old is already becoming more serious and can withstand maximum loads. It must withstand the weight of a briefcase thrown on it with all its contents, including water, books and spare shoes.
- Ready for changes in child growth. Now there are many models of desks with adjustable height. If necessary, the desk is raised, the fasteners are installed on the next division on each leg, fixed and adjusted to the needs of the student. You can take a swivel office chair or a positive children's chair, the main thing is that it is comfortable for the child to write, that is, the legs touch the floor and the back is straight. This is useful both for posture and for practicing calligraphy skills.
- Wide enough. Often, to complete one task on the surrounding world or geometry, you need to lay out a couple of reference books, natural materials, glue, sticks, pens and a notepad for notes and many other useful things around you. Therefore, the tabletop for each child should be at least a meter in length.
- Functional. This is where all sorts of wall-mounted and tabletop-screwed shelves, lamps, book holders and pull-out cabinets come to the rescue. It is advisable to store in them separately paper products, devices with dyes, from pens to plasticine, and sharp and cutting objects, such as scissors, brushes and a stapler.
- Pleasant for the child. Please ask your child what kind of table they want before purchasing it. Perhaps he always wanted a bunk bed, and it makes a wonderful schoolchildren's corner with a bed. It is likely that he will have his own color preferences. Trust him with the choice of lamp and table top. Even in the most severe adult design there is always a place for a table covering with fairy-tale dragons or space pirates.
You can use ready-made solutions from store stands or assemble a corner for a growing student in fragments at your discretion.
In any case, the child will be delighted to become an adult and independent, because he will have his own place for many important and necessary things, just like dad or mom at work.
A happy child studies more diligently and more often pleases his loved ones with his achievements.
Basic principles of space for schoolchildren
The approach to organizing a children's space is somewhat different from the rest of the apartment or house. If an adult’s bedroom or office can serve as a field for design experiments, and their decorative design may well be of greater importance than utilitarian use, then this will not work in a child’s room.
The interior should be as comfortable as possible, safe, and not interfere with the development of the child’s body. Up to the age of 16–17 years (the end of school age), the child grows rapidly, his psyche and physical appearance are formed. Therefore, making the environment of the children's room as comfortable as possible is the task of loving parents.

And there is no need to be afraid if the room of your still young daughter or son does not resemble a nursery from American films. The main thing is that the child feels good in it.
If we talk about more specific recommendations, it is worth mentioning the following:
More space
Under no circumstances should the children's room be cluttered with furniture and things. If the room is small, you should lean towards minimalism and sacrifice some element. Well, in a large room you shouldn’t be embarrassed by the feeling of “something is missing.” If necessary, the student himself will fill in the gaps if he sees fit.
Safety
Of course, you shouldn’t turn your child’s home into a kind of cell for violent people, upholstered on all sides with mattresses. However, in general, nothing should threaten a student in his room. This means: the absence of sharp corners in passage areas, soft coverings on the floor (especially in the place where there is a sports corner) and a non-slippery floor.
Versatility
The student will spend most of his time in his room: sleeping, studying, reading for fun, working and playing on the computer, playing sports, playing with friends. This means that it is advisable not to sacrifice any of the nursery functions to another, if space allows.
Openness of the interior
The child is growing. The room of a junior student has completely different details than the room of a high school graduate, although the functionality remains the same. Therefore, the design should not be a complete picture, where nothing can be added or subtracted. As you grow older, your room may change. Therefore, basic pieces of furniture should be “expandable” and discreet, neutral. Let the student himself have the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of his home.
