Jeans rug
We present to you a master class on making rugs from jeans.
- For one rug, you need to take several pairs of old jeans, depending on its size.
- Rip apart the jeans prepared for work along all the seams, flog the zippers, belts and pockets. Wash and iron the panels of the trousers.
- Draw them lengthwise into strips twice as wide as the planned width of the strips for weaving.
- For example, for stripes two centimeters wide, you need to draw parallel lines every four centimeters. Cut the strips along the marked lines.
- Iron both edges of each strip towards the middle. Sew each strip on both sides, retreating 3 mm from the edge.
- Cut a rectangle from the base fabric with the dimensions of the future rug.
- Sew the ends of the denim strips to one of its sides, applying their reverse side to the wrong side of the base.
- Start weaving. To do this, lay other strips across the stitched denim strips, passing them first from above, then from below, and moving them as close as possible to the stitched edge of the strips.
- Each subsequent strip must be laid in a checkerboard pattern relative to the previous one: if in the previous row it passed over a specific strip, now it must be passed under it, and vice versa.
- After completing the weaving, sew denim strips along the three remaining sides of the rug. Trim the strips to fit the dimensions of the rug.
- Prepare 4 more strips of denim. The length of two of them should be equal to the length of the rug plus the hem, and two should be equal to the width of the rug plus the hem.
- The width of the stripes should be equal to the width of the strips from which we wove the rug, plus a hem on both sides. For example, in our case it will be 4+0.5*2=5 cm.
- Hem the rug with the prepared strips. To do this, attach the front side of one strip to the back side of the rug and sew a line 0.5 cm from the edge.
- Unscrew the stitched strip, fold its other side 0.5 cm from the edge, attach the fold line to the stitched line on the front side and stitch 3 mm from the edge.
Do the same on the remaining three sides of the rug. Tuck the ends of the facing inward and hem them on the arms. The rug is ready.
We use wine corks
Among the well-known step-by-step diagrams for DIY rugs, the use of wine corks stands out, since it is an exotic and very flexible material. Its coating actually does not allow moisture to pass through and prevents the growth of many bacteria.
In addition, it is pleasant and useful to walk on such a craft with bare feet.
What we use:
- About 150-180 wine bottle corks;
- Appropriate glue;
- A little water-repellent material to create a base, since you need a surface for mounting the plugs;
- A piece of rubberized fabric;
- A soft but thin piece of plastic;
- Reliable and sharpened knife;
- Sandpaper;
- Standard cutting board.
Manufacturing stages:
- The required number of traffic jams is collected. They look around to immediately get rid of the damaged material. The workpieces are washed with warm soapy water. To remove wine stains, use a bleach solution overnight. Purchase in a chain store is allowed.
- Each cork is cut lengthwise to form equal parts. A cutting board and a reliable knife are used. If it is not very smooth, then sandpaper treatment is used. For comfort and safety, it is more beneficial to place the workpiece in a vertical position.
- You need to decide on the final size of the rug. To create the base, a corresponding piece of material is cut out. The blanks are laid out along the cut side. We use a simple checkerboard pattern, zigzag or even row.
- The corks are glued to the base using the appropriate adhesive. We start from the perimeter and move towards the center of the base. Excess glue is removed with a rag. We wait until the product is completely dry.
- To ensure waterproof qualities, the product is treated with a sealant. If used in a bathroom, you need to dry the mat once a month.
This product is beautiful and can be easily created at home. The problem may arise only in the necessary presence of wine corks, but if the author is a lover of the divine drink, then he can put this craft on a regular basis.
T-shirt braided rug
T-shirts can be used to make woven and knitted rugs. For wicker, you need to cut old T-shirts at the seams and cut them lengthwise into strips 5 cm wide. Stretch all the strips lengthwise so that they curl into tubes.
- Cut a rectangle from a piece of corrugated cardboard or an old box, the length of which is equal and the width is 2 cm larger than the dimensions of the future rug.
- Draw a line along the long sides of the rectangle, stepping back 1 cm from the edge.
- Perpendicular to these lines from them to the nearest edge, draw parallel lines every one centimeter. Make cuts along these lines to the long lines.
- Take a thick cotton thread, tie a knot at the end and draw parallel lines from it along the front side of the cardboard, passing it between the teeth along the edges.
- Take the prepared knitted strips and begin to pass them between the threads and cardboard, pulling first from above and then from below the thread, and starting from one of the edges with teeth.
- Each subsequent strip must be laid in the reverse order to the previous one: if in the last row it passed above the threads, now it must be passed under them, and vice versa.
- It is better to alternate the colors of the stripes. Each row needs to be aligned. Having finished weaving, trim the edges of the colored stripes.
- Thread the same thread through a thick needle and tie the other end to the warp thread at one of the corners of the rug.
- By threading a needle and thread on the opposite side of the warp thread relative to the knitted strip (if the colored strip went on top of the warp thread, now the needle must be threaded over it and vice versa) and making loops on the warp thread, fix all the colored knitted strips.
Carefully remove the loops of thread from the cardboard teeth, first on one side, then on the other. Straighten the colored strips so that these loops do not hang. The rug is ready.
Modern carpets
Modern manufacturers are ready to offer carpets and rugs to suit every taste, color, pile length, size and, of course, budget. Such creations elegantly or originally decorate the premises and become a source of pride for the owners.
However, more and more often, even in expensive interiors, you can see charming homemade rugs. They charmingly complement design in all ethnographic styles, add homely warmth to apartments and houses in a rough industrial loft, complement rooms without strictly conforming to a specific style, and become indispensable in country houses and cottages.
Knitted T-shirt rug
- In this case, you will need a continuous continuous knitted tape, which will be used in the form of yarn, so it is better to cut the T-shirts in a spiral, starting from the bottom. The individual ribbons will need to be sewn together.
- You will also need a sink mat with identical cells and a large crochet hook.
- At the end of the knitted yarn you need to make a loop and pull it with a crochet hook through the corner cell from the wrong side to the right side of the rug.
- Then make a second loop and thread it through the next cell and through the first loop.
- Pass the third loop through the second in the same way. Do the same for the entire first row.
- Then turn our braid in the form of a snake and lay the second row parallel to it, and then all the rest. Cut the end of the yarn, thread it through the last loop, bring it to the wrong side and tie a knot.
A larger rug can be made from several plastic rugs, securing them together solely with loops. To do this, having finished the row on the first rug, you need to continue it on the next one.
Patchwork corners
Charming patchwork corners will help create the most unusual flower on the floor. To do this, the fabric is folded into corners, which are attached to each other in an expanding circle. It is better to sew such a rug on a machine; manually such an undertaking will take too much time, and you can easily skew the whole work.
In addition to right angles, the fabric can be folded into a soft semicircle or light folds, as for kanzashi flowers. True, you won’t even want to get up on the last mat. He's very handsome.
Rug made of tights
- Get as many old nylon tights as you can, in different colors and thicknesses. Cut off the socks and the upper dense part.
- Cut them crosswise into rings 4-7 cm wide. The denser the tights, the narrower the stripes should be, and tights of the same density should be cut into identical rings.
- Take one of the nylon rings, fold it in half and put it in the form of a figure eight on two fingers of your left hand.
- Take the second ring, also double it and put it on the same fingers, no longer twisting it in a figure eight.
- Remove each half of the first ring from both fingers. They should remain on the second ring.
- Now we put on the third double ring, also without twisting it. Remove both halves of the second ring from it.
- A chain began to emerge. It needs to be woven to the desired length. Stretch it, aligning the individual links.
- Set aside a distance from the end of this chain equal to the width of the future rug and fold it in half in this place.
- Take a thread and a needle and sew these two strips together from the wrong side.
- In the place where the first piece of the chain ends, bend it again and you will get the third row. Sew it to the second one.
- Then sew all the remaining rows together in the form of a snake. In this case, you need to ensure that the width of all rows is the same. If the chain is not long enough, it can be braided at any time.
If you lay out a chain of tights not like a snake, but in a spiral, then you can make a round rug in the same way.
Knitting
Older people probably still remember do-it-yourself rugs, crocheted from old dressing gowns, shirts, and T-shirts. Similar multi-colored round rugs decorated the bedrooms of grandparents, wooden stools in the kitchens, and were constant decorative items in village houses.
Similar knitting is still used today. The number of patterns and geometry of such floor decorations has only increased.
It is possible to create a knitted creation without using a crochet hook or knitting needles. For example, a rug made from socks with your own hands. The video will show the whole process, and the work itself will get rid of a bunch of slightly torn socks or socks that did not find their pair after washing.
But you will need a lot of socks, so you can unload not only your linen drawer, but also rid the pantries of your parents and other more distant members of the extended family from such unnecessary things.
Rug made of pompoms
- Take any thick threads and a toilet paper roll. Make approximately 100 turns of thread on it.
- It all depends on the thickness of your threads and how thick the pompoms you want. Trim the end of the thread. Cut a piece 15 cm long from it.
- Remove the thread ring from the sleeve and fold it in half. Tie it with a cut piece of thread in the middle in the shape of a figure eight, tightening the knot well.
- Cut each of the figure eight loops in the middle. Straighten the pompom and trim its edges with scissors.
- Leave the threads used to tie the pompom long.
Measure the diameter of the resulting pompom and calculate the total number of pompoms that will be needed to make the rug. They can be the same or different colors.
Take a plastic mesh that you can buy at a hardware store and cut out the shape of the future rug from it. She can be anyone.
Using a crochet hook, thread the long threads of each pompom through the back and tie all the pompoms to the net at equal intervals. Trim the ends of the threads.
Cut a piece of fabric in the shape of a rug plus a hem. Place it on the mesh side, tuck the edges of the fabric around the mesh and sew them to the pom-poms. This rug is perfect for a bedroom or nursery.
Now you know what you can use to make a rug for your home practically for free. And photos of the resulting handmade rugs will glorify you among your friends as a great needlewoman and zealous housewife.
