Towel sizes are standard product indicators, which are determined by width and length. Factories rely on them when sewing improvised items. Indicators may differ and can be a bath for the body, a waffle for the kitchen, or a terry for the face. The standard size of the model allows you to determine what size a man or woman needs, especially when it comes to individual tailoring.

Recommended kitchen towel sizes
You can make towels of any size and shape. However, there are several standard options.
Experienced housewives make a choice in favor of a rectangular piece of fabric 30x60cm or 40x70cm. Please note that to create such towels you need to cut the material with a margin of 0.5-1 cm per seam on each side.
Weekly set of towels “Children’s menu” size 35x60 cm
Set of kitchen towels (waffle and terry) size 40x60 cm
However, sometimes the gap is neglected. If you are going to decorate the edges with braid, fabric of a different shade, or knitted lace, you don’t have to reserve the size.
Tapestry round towel “Lavender”, edged with purple braid - a beautiful non-standard option
In matters of shape and size, it is better to adhere to accepted standards, showing your individuality and creativity in the selection of shades, material, decor, and type of holder.
Towels are one of the important decorative components of the kitchen interior
Which decor is better?
The choice of decor is a matter of taste of the housewife. It should fit harmoniously into the decor of the room, match the style and color of the utensils used.
For a country-style kitchen, square or rectangular terry napkins with floral motifs in not very bright lilac, green and yellow tones are suitable.
If the room and furnishings are made in the Art Nouveau style, rectangular towels measuring 50x70 or 45x65 made of cotton, painted in red, black, gray and white colors or with a geometric or abstract pattern, will look great.
Decorating Kitchen Towels: Suitable Art Techniques
Cute bells to decorate a kitchen towel
Here it is permissible to show imagination. There are several most common handicraft techniques that are appropriate in this case.
- Embroidery
Beautiful embroidered kitchen towels
Satin stitch, cross stitch, and ribbons work well. The main thing is to choose sufficiently strong and stable threads of harmonious shades, find or come up with a design.
The color of the embroidery should match the fabric from which the towel is made. And with a color scheme for the kitchen interior. With shades of tiles on the walls, furniture fittings, tablecloths and curtains.
Handmade towel with embroidery and lace “French Breakfast”
Any design is acceptable, but more often they use: plant motifs, ethnic ornaments, images of vegetables, fruits, animals.
- Patchwork
A kitchen towel in a patchwork technique will become a bright and stylish accessory in the kitchen.
Patchwork is the creation of textile products from individual scraps. Masters of this technique make entire paintings this way. And while it may not be practical to turn a kitchen towel into a work of art, it is perfectly acceptable to decorate it a little and give it a little personality.
For example, you can make a multi-colored border around the edge. This looks unusual and attractive, and makes the towel more durable. A good solution is to make a decorative and practical holder from scraps.

- Crochet

The hook is a universal tool with a wide range of capabilities. In this case, you can use it to make a spectacular lace trim around the edge of a towel, as well as a reliable and beautiful holder. It is only important to choose good threads that are strong enough, do not fade, and are in harmony with other elements of the kitchen design in color.

A few words about aesthetics
Buying a good and high-quality towel has not been a problem for a long time. But choosing a product that will last for many years, delighting with excellent performance characteristics, can still be difficult. The choice of this timeless bath accessory today is primarily related to appearance and its aesthetics. As a true connoisseur of beauty and sophistication, the Westwing shopping club recommends choosing not only small details and decor in unison with the style and design of the bathroom, but also towels, which can be decorated with patterns of different types.
A printed product is a product whose edge is decorated with elegant embroidery or a graceful design. A plainly colored towel attracts attention not with its original decorations, but with the rich shades of a rich color palette. Jacquard patterns have a stunning look. However, the complexity of their production affects the price of the finished product. Printed patterns can decorate the elegant jacquard design, drawing attention to the unique weave of threads. Fluffy, incredibly soft and attractive in appearance, the towel will certainly give an unforgettable experience after a relaxing bath or invigorating shower

An original and convenient towel holder
Kitchen towel with stylish holder
The holder is the element with which the towel is hung on a specially designed hook or handle. This could be a simple loop made of the same fabric as the towel itself. But there are other, more unusual and vibrant options.
Brass kitchen towel hooks

For example, you can make the holder as a complete composition from scraps. In the form of a cat's face, a bouquet of flowers, a teapot. It is possible to knit this element from colored wool threads. This will increase its strength and reliability. And so on. Here you are limited only by your imagination.

Progress of my actions
To begin with, I selected the material for sewing. I have a lot of different fabrics made from measured scraps. In general, they send good pieces, but sometimes they send in dirty ones, with some kind of stamps, with oil stains that are impossible to remove.
But I still find a use for them. So this time I found a piece of knitwear, good density, does not fray, does not fray, I wanted to sew a T-shirt for my son, but it turned out that there were stains on the fabric that could not be removed. This is what I use for a kitchen towel.
Choosing fabric for a practical towel
Towels made from different fabrics can be useful in the kitchen for different purposes.
A kitchen towel should absorb moisture well, be easy to wash, and be durable. Natural linen and cotton best meet these criteria.
A comparison of these materials is given in the table.
linen | cotton | |
Features of care | wash in gentle wash mode at 30-40°C | Wash on gentle cycle at 30°C |
Durability level | 2 times higher than cotton | high |
Ability to absorb moisture | very high | very high |
Beautiful and comfortable linen towel for the kitchen
Linen looks more comfortable, but the properties of the finished textile product depend not only on the selected raw material. Both cotton and linen are used to make different types of fabric: smooth, waffle, terry.
Beautiful and comfortable cotton kitchen towels
In a food preparation area, it is better to use the last two options; they absorb moisture more effectively.
- Wafer materials
The waffle towel has even squares over its entire surface, improving hygroscopicity.
They are a cotton fabric with a surface of characteristic squares. The hygroscopicity of such textiles is slightly higher than that of its closest competitors, as is its strength.
- Terry materials
Soft and light terry towels will find use in any kitchen
They resemble fine pile and are made of cotton or linen, often with the addition of synthetics. Thanks to the latter, they are easier to wash.
It’s up to you to decide which material to choose to create stylish kitchen accessories.
