Metal gates are the best protection against unauthorized intrusions from the outside, an indicator of the owner’s taste and status level. Frame
The frame should be slightly smaller in size than the gate frame; metal doors are attached to it, for which you can use a 60*20 mm rectangular profile or a steel corner.
From any suitable material, make four pieces 10-15mm smaller than the height of the frame. Thanks to this, the movement of the valves will not be difficult. If there are two leaves, cut four sections corresponding to the width of the gate, divided in half and reduced by 30-35mm.
On a flat surface, preferably inside the finished frame, check the right angles and weld the frame.
Gate materials, their features
There are two main materials for creating fence leaves - wood and steel alloys. Metal garden gates with steel doors have a number of advantages over wooden ones. They are as follows:
- durable, have good rigidity, are not afraid of external influences;
- are inexpensive;
- do not contain complex patterns that will need to be selected;
- When installing the structure, simple installation operations are performed.
Metal picket fence
There is only one disadvantage of such gates - the likelihood of corrosion. A slight damage to the protective layer of steel sashes is enough for rust to begin to appear.
The tree is short-lived, has insufficient mechanical resistance, and is a fire hazard. It also requires regular protective treatments. They need to be carried out not once every 3-5 years, as for steel sashes, but much more often.
Metal patterns
Natural wood looks interesting and has a universal brown color. Such fences are quickly erected, but they will not provide reliable protection of the territory. That is why gates with steel leaves are installed much more often.
Loops
Depending on the weight of the leaf, the appropriate canopy model and hinges for metal gates are selected. Sometimes, with a significant weight of the structure, for better load distribution, it is necessary to place not 2, but 3 or even 4 hinges on each half of the gate. However, we do not recommend intentionally making your country gate heavier by using a thick-walled pipe or thick steel. Indeed, in this case, the installation of supports requires significant modifications.
Sometimes during operation, the hinges come off the gate along with fragments of the metal to which they are welded. To prevent this from happening, you should strengthen the hinge attachment points by welding additional iron plates 4–5 mm thick.
Types of gates
Iron is a universal material. It is used in the production of entrance groups of various types of opening.
Metal version with gate
Possible types of gates:
- Swing – standard option, easy to use, reliable, beautiful. Its disadvantage is the need for sufficient space to open steel sashes. This design swings open like a regular door. Different rolled metal products are used for the frame and supports. The doors are sheathed with corrugated sheets of different colors, wood lathing, forged parts, and sandwich panels.
- Sliding is the most convenient and frequently used type of gate with an arrow. Even if the area is small and densely planted, there will be no obstacles to arranging an entrance with steel doors. In this case, the profile sheets rest on the guides, roll to the sides along stainless roller elements, and do not move apart, occupying part of the territory. The disadvantages of this design are its high cost and the need for additional space for rolling away.
- Sections are indispensable in warehouses, underground parking lots, and areas where there are playgrounds. Installation is carried out according to the diagram. Such gates can be insulated. The weight of the steel sashes is average.

Iron forged structures
These products are most often installed in garages, securing them from inside the room. The mechanism is also convenient for entrance gates on the site, since the mechanism rises to the very top. Control can be manual or automatic.
The canvas closes securely, so that third parties cannot enter the territory. Before starting installation, you should make sure that there is enough space to open the steel sashes. The opening needs to be reinforced with a portable frame.
Corrugated sheet
Mark the gate fastenings (horizontal or vertical) in advance. Next, you should set the vertical of the opening and fix the parts. Distortions, even minimal ones, are unacceptable on high-quality gates.
Also, before assembling the steel sashes, all load-bearing parts should be secured. It is convenient to adjust the gate using a lining. The position of the brackets must be adjusted so that the sheets are completely adjacent to the upper steel sashes.
Forged metal rods

Metal structure

To fasten the doors, there are supporting pillars that are immersed in the ground. They are concreted in the soil to a depth of at least 100 cm. As pillars for the gate frame, you can use profile pipes with a cross-section of 100x100 mm, wooden blocks (hardwood is used), and concrete pillars.

Metal version with gate
To construct brick supports, the foundation of the pillars is concreted to a depth of at least 1 m. Before pouring concrete, the pillars and foundation are reinforced. Then you will need to install embedded parts to secure the structure in the ground.
Locks
To secure a garage, use padlocks, mortise locks, or use pin stoppers and deadbolts. The stopper is a part of the pipe into the cavity with which a metal rod is immersed. It should go through the loop welded to the gate and stick into the floor or ceiling. Basically, with the help of a stopper (lock), one gate leaf is closed, and an internal lock is cut into the other.
From the outside, it is advisable to strengthen the protection with a padlock, which is threaded into loops welded to the edges of the two doors.
Locks require timely careful maintenance and protection from weather conditions and corrosion.
Is it possible to restore the gate?
Metal structures are found everywhere - in residential, administrative, industrial facilities, transformer substations. They are convenient and can be built into garages and fences.
Steel doors
If you have an ARK drive, you won’t have to get out of the car to open the steel doors. But, like any other modern technology, gates require proper operation.
If they fail, repair is quite possible. This could be the restoration of steel sashes, the restoration of incorrectly functioning automation. The weak link in the gate design is the motor. Usually it is located on a certain side below and prevents the doors from opening to the side.
A canopy or shelter is placed over the engine, which prevents moisture from entering. Problems with the motor may not make themselves felt for a long time, but will ultimately lead to failure of the automation or electric drive. At the same time, opening steel doors will be problematic. Only a competent technician can repair the gate control unit.
