A gazebo is not just a garden decoration, but also a wonderful place where the whole family can gather on a hot afternoon or after a busy day of work full of agricultural worries.
And, in order to fully enjoy communication with family or friends, it is better to decorate the gazebo with lovely curtains.
The role of curtains for the gazebo
Outdoor curtains give a separate building an attractive appearance. They can turn a gazebo into a cozy habitat for a fairy-tale princess or a practical structure for a modern city dweller, enhance your mood with bright colors or gracefully fit the structure into the existing landscape.
In addition to their decorative function, curtains for gazebos help protect the inhabitants of the recreation area from:
- curious glances from neighbors;
- flying insects;
- natural weather changes.
They create a cozy and private environment inside the building, cover up some of the flaws of home builders or architects, and help normalize the microclimate, protecting against excess sunlight or coolness. As the photos of curtains for the gazebo show, these elegant or practical decorations can be presented in several types. And only the owners of the garden choose the type and main purpose of the curtains for the gazebo.
Transparent
Recently, transparent and translucent PVC curtains have been gaining popularity. The material is durable and practical, transmits sunlight well.
All types of curtains have their advantages and disadvantages.
Knowing the characteristics of each material and taking into account the design features of the building, it is easy to choose the best option for curtains and turn a gazebo or veranda at the dacha into a cozy corner for relaxation.
Types of curtains for gazebos
All types of curtains for a small holiday home are divided into protective and decorative.
The first option plays a mainly practical role. Such curtains are designed to protect against mosquitoes, flies and other flying creatures, the curiosity of others, bright sun and rain. Dense but fairly light fabrics used for this design can be laid in beautiful waves or folds, while heavy fabrics, such as tarpaulin, are unlikely to be a good design for a gazebo, but they will retain heat and keep moisture out.
The second option serves as an excellent decoration for the pavilion, giving it a sophisticated or elegant look, attracting the attention of guests or camouflaging the gazebo among the foliage. They have no practical value and can only slightly cover up minor shortcomings of the builders. For decorative curtains, light, often transparent fabrics are chosen.
Very often, these two design options for gazebo window openings are combined with each other, creating a nice room that is protected from natural disasters.
Style directions
There are many styles in which curtains for gazebos are decorated:
- country;
- Roman;
- roll;
- roller blinds;
- thread;
- sliding
The rustic country style will delight you with its bright patterns and cheerful mood.
Cheerful pink flowers on the curtains along with a transparent veil give lightness to the interior, which complements furniture with bright pillows and vases of flowers. The large veranda windows let in a lot of light
Fashionable and laconic Roman blinds provide good protection from the sun.
Bright and colorful Roman curtains fold into neat folds using a simple mechanism. When necessary, close the terrace windows tightly and protect it from sunlight.
A practical option is roller blinds for the terrace; they have another name – fabric roller blinds. The roll is opened automatically by remote control or manually. Acrylic fabric or blackout is often used. Roller blinds have the same design principle; they are mounted indoors, and roller blinds are mounted outside.
Acrylic fabric, which diffuses light, creates a pleasant aura indoors, repels moisture, and is resistant to gusts of wind. Caring for rolled sheets is simple - they are wiped off dust with a damp cloth
There are fans of thread curtains - fabric strands on a common basis. They can be made from natural jute threads, fishing line, plastic, wire. They often serve as an element of terrace decor; they do not absorb the sun's rays.
To a terrace with bright decor, light thread curtains add sophistication. The threads are of different lengths, in several places they were given an arched shape. They scatter sunlight slightly. Performs a decorative function perfectly
For verandas, sliding panels with a rigid frame in the Japanese style are often chosen; they are attached to the eaves.
The movement of the stretched fabric panels of the sliding panels for the terrace is directed along the windows. The panels can be easily moved in different directions; each has its own guide. They block access to sunlight and are easy to care for.

Materials used
Photos of gazebos with curtains show a wide range of materials used. It can be:
- usual fabric;
- waterproof tarpaulin, Oxford or tent canvas;
- PVC films;
- natural materials.
All of them are great for creating gazebo curtains, and their choice depends on the preferences of the owners of the site.
Fabric curtains
Cozy and beautiful fabric curtains are the most popular option for decorating a gazebo. They:
- ideal for any style;
- can be used in open and glazed pavilions;
- excellent air permeability, allowing the room to be ventilated;
- they beautifully decorate windows, lying in folds or falling in even sheets;
- have many textures and colors;
- harmoniously combine with all other types of curtains, gazebo decoration and the surrounding landscape.
The disadvantages of fabric curtains are:
- short service life;
- the need for periodic washing;
- the likelihood of paintings burning out.
Such curtains can be made of any fabric, from a transparent veil to a heavy tapestry; the draperies themselves are most often represented by classic options.
Thread curtains look unusual, and burlap curtains will add a special charm to the house. They can be additionally decorated with dried flowers, multi-colored ribbons or original applique.
Roller blinds will look unusual; they collect much less dust thanks to a design that allows the curtains to be put away in a special box that protects the material from the sun and dirt.
How to properly attach curtains
Methods for fixing curtains on outdoor verandas or gazebos are determined by the materials used and the design of the building. Often, products are hung on belts or hooks, which are mounted with self-tapping screws around the perimeter.
Curtains are attached to brackets made in the following variations:
- turning mechanisms;
- sliding structures;
- staples with straps.
The most reliable is the first option. During installation, eyelets are used, placed around the perimeter of the canvas at the same distance from each other, into which staples are inserted. The fastener is reliable, suitable for heavy canvases, and does not break off in strong winds. With eyelets, the curtain can be easily unrolled or rolled up.
Sliding structures are easy to use and reliable. Installation is carried out using guides and rollers or cables with carabiners. After installation, the curtain can be easily and freely moved in the horizontal plane, opening access to the window or closing the opening. Light and airy curtains can be hung on metal tubes, carabiners, or secured with straps.
Important! When choosing fasteners, you need to take into account that the parts are actually located on the street, so the material should not oxidize under the influence of rain and snow.
Fixing “soft windows” made of PVC has several options:
- Brackets with a rotating mechanism and a spring are placed around the perimeter of the window and mounted on grommets. The design fixes and tensions the fabric.
- Installation of staples is done around the perimeter using grommets, tension will be with belts with fasteners.
- Cassette types of systems are installed using sliding door technology. The film is inserted into a frame that moves on rollers.
If the canvas creates the effect of a wall, then you can make a zipper in the center for opening, and use cords to roll it up in a vertical position.
Numerous fastening options help guide the canvas up, down, and to the sides to open or close the interior of the veranda. There is also a variant of Japanese curtains, which are pulled over a frame and moved along the cornice. They allow you to make a closed opening, creating a sealed protective shield from winds and rain.

English word, but its origins are in Old French and Late Latin "Cortina".
Canvas curtains
Curtains made of tarpaulin and similar fabrics have a special look. This is due to the properties of the material:
- do not allow moisture and wind to pass through;
- keep warm.
Such curtains cannot be laid elegantly, but they will provide comfort even in cool spring and autumn. Protective fabric:
- does not require maintenance;
- does not fade over time;
- does not get wet, losing its attractiveness;
- is particularly durable;
- ready to serve for quite a long time without requiring replacement.
Plastic curtains
Such curtains are used quite rarely in areas, although they have a lot of advantages. PVC curtains:
- are not afraid of moisture and sun;
- provide complete protection against flying pests;
- do not require maintenance and can be easily washed with a hose;
- durable;
- budget-friendly in cost.
Completely transparent curtains will provide an excellent panoramic view, and canvases consisting of colored stripes will help create an elegant room, colored with bright colors. The disadvantage of PVC curtains is their relative tightness, so a greenhouse effect can be created in the room. It is not recommended to use open fire sources or powerful heaters with plastic curtains.

- have excellent performance characteristics;
- durable;
- practical;
- do not require maintenance.
Acrylic curtains will help to harmoniously decorate the gazebo, giving it a stylish and presentable look.
Eco-curtains
Curtains in an ecological style will help give the gazebo a harmonious, natural look. Most often, the materials for such curtains are:
- straw;
- bamboo;

Such outdoor blinds for gazebos can be presented in vertical and horizontal varieties. All of them:

When choosing curtains for a gazebo, you should also pay attention to the color scheme of the future design.
Designers are especially fond of light shades, which bring an atmosphere of lightness and airiness, elegance and serenity.
Dark colors will attract additional attention to the gazebo, and variegated colors will give the structure brightness and create a festive mood.
Blinds
This option can have both horizontal and vertical arrangement of elements. For outdoor use, blinds must be made of stainless steel or aluminum. When planning to make blinds yourself, you should take into account that the strips they are made of have a curved shape.
An excellent option that allows you to completely close and even lock the gazebo are roller shutters. They are ordered ready-made, and installation is easy to do on your own. To do this, you will need to secure the top box and horizontal guides.
