Cords are available in different diameters, so you can choose the one that suits you, taking into account the size of the gap. This insert is flexible and is used on straight and rounded areas.

But the cord also has disadvantages. It collects dust and needs regular cleaning. Installation requires gluing the cord to the wall in the gap area, which makes the finishing procedure more complicated. And if the walls are uneven, it will be noticeable due to incomplete fit.

When skirting boards are not required

For suspended ceilings, a base is installed that is designed to secure the edge of the canvas. In fact, it does not carry an artistic load. But, depending on the design, after installation the frame can be completely hidden between the wall and the canvas in the profile groove:

Is it possible to leave a suspended ceiling without a plinth?

Let's consider what will happen if the gap is left open after installation. This solution has only one advantage - some saving of money and time. And the disadvantages are the following:

The appearance will be sloppy. The joint between the ceiling and the wall is noticeable, especially if you apply thick non-woven or vinyl wallpaper.
Dust and dirt will accumulate in the gap behind the canvas, which is very difficult to clean.

For these reasons, leaving gaps is not recommended. If you don’t like the methods of masking the joint, another option is possible - a gapless profile. These are special baguettes with pressing elements. Fixing cords are inserted into the profiles, which then press the canvas tightly against the wall.

Foam models

If the walls are not perfectly smooth, you should opt for a plinth. It will smooth out the contrast between the absolutely smooth canvas and crooked supports.

The more unevenness there is on the walls, the wider the baguette you need to choose.

In this case, the plinth can be used usefully. For example, hide a curtain rod behind it, as shown in the photo below.

In some cases, both edging options are used. Most often, this solution is used when organizing lighting: the insert is placed around the perimeter of the canvas, and the plinth is lowered 5–10 cm below - then an LED strip is laid on it.

There is a so-called floating profile, created to allow the implementation of various design solutions. It allows, at the stage of installation of PVC ceilings, to create a gap between the tension fabric and the wall, where lighting in the form of an LED strip is mounted. There are two types of skirting boards for suspended ceilings with lighting:

A unique structural system in the form of ceiling plinths can be purchased separately, after the installation of suspended ceilings. A polyurethane or foam profile, without a high front side for lighting, is installed on ceilings of any configuration. The costs of implementing such a technical solution are not high, and the labor intensity of the process is quite commensurate with installing a plinth on a suspended ceiling of ordinary ceiling borders. Do I need a ceiling plinth for a suspended ceiling?

A stretch ceiling is a thin sheet of PVC film or synthetic fabric. To fasten the material, a frame is constructed from special profiles (baguettes), which are mounted around the perimeter of the room with a distance of 5-7 cm from the base floor. Then the canvas is stretched and tucked into the baguettes with a special spatula. The material is securely fixed, forming a flat, smooth surface.

In order to thread the canvas, a special groove is provided in the profile design. Therefore, after installation, there remains a gap between the walls and the suspended ceiling in which dust will collect. To close the installation gap, as a rule, masking tape is used - this is a special narrow strip of PVC that serves as a decorative plug.

But many people prefer familiar decor, especially when the interior is decorated in a classic style. A stretch ceiling with a plinth makes the room more elegant and formal, while with masking tape the room looks simple.

Fillets can imitate wood or stucco, are distinguished by a variety of patterns and are painted in any color. And in some cases, for example, for installing eaves lighting, wide borders are indispensable.

Important: fillets do not stick to the stretch ceiling. The canvas does not have sufficient rigidity for attaching decor. In addition, some types of glue corrode the surface of the film. Borders are attached only to the wall, so they must be light and fit well to the surface.

Installation

To perform the installation you will need a knife, a construction tape, a miter box, a spatula, a cord, and a pencil. Before installation, the profile is painted with special acrylic compounds, which are quick-drying and non-hazardous. To protect the wall from unexpected contamination, it can be covered with polyethylene or construction tape. Ceiling borders can only be attached to walls or frames. Sometimes liquid nails are used for this; they are suitable for any baseboards.

How to glue skirting boards to a PVC stretch ceiling? Process:

Cut a piece of the plank to the desired size and form an angle. Do not cut the protrusion with an eye - this will create huge gaps at the joints, so always use a miter box.
The affected area is cleaned, marked and primed.
The adhesive composition is applied to the back side of the decorative strip. Carefully read the instructions for the selected adhesive. Some compounds need to be allowed to dry for a few minutes, others can be pressed on straight away.
The plinth is glued from one corner by lightly pressing the edges against the walls. If curtains are placed between the wall and the ceiling, then in some areas you need to attach the slats at a short distance from the wall.
The joint gaps are masked with putty.
