Features and advantages of MDF doors: what is it and is it worth buying them

Any repair work will be incomplete without replacing interior doors. The selection of products is impressive. It is difficult for an unprepared person to independently understand such an assortment. Among all the modern materials from which products are made, the most popular is MDF (fine fraction). This popularity is explained by its practicality of material and affordable price. But in order to understand what MDF doors are, you need to familiarize yourself with their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

What are MDF interior doors?

In appearance, MDF interior doors are not inferior to solid wood products, and their cost is much lower. Today, MDF is the optimal alternative to natural wood, and in some respects this material is even better.

The weight of an MDF interior door depends on the design.

  • Panel hollow products weigh about 10 kg, filled with honeycomb cardboard a little more.
  • The weight of a paneled door depends on the coating and the amount of glass. The average weight of glazed veneer sheets is 25 kg.
  • If the door frame is made not from pine bars, but also from MDF, then the weight of the door leaf becomes significantly greater.

pros

— Interior doors of this type differ from each other in the color of the PVC film and figured milling, so a very large number of colors and patterns have been created for such doors. — The solid MDF door breaks all records for strength, noise and heat insulation due to its solid structure and high strength of the manufacturing material. Therefore, such a door is suitable for almost any purpose. — All ends of the MDF panel are sealed with a thick furniture edge, which reliably protects the material from destructive moisture and prevents the film coating of the door from peeling off. — Manufacturers of MDF doors usually do not have standard sizes, as do manufacturers of furniture MDF facades. Canvases and all components are made of any size within certain limits. — Since such doors are mainly supplied without glass, the client can choose the color and pattern of the glass from a wide range of the modern glass market.

Features of the material

MDF - wood chip boards. They are made from wood processing waste. In terms of technology, this process is similar to the production of low-density slabs. But it excludes the use of toxic materials (synthetic resins, phenol). Bonding occurs due to the stickiness of the wood. The chips of fine dispersion are exposed to high temperature, under the influence of which a natural sticky substance (lignin) begins to be released from it.

Reliable bonding is achieved by applying strong pressure with a press. To ensure better connection of chips, urea resins are used. To prevent the release of harmful substances when heating the fabric, melamine is used. Other adhesive compositions negatively affect the quality characteristics. Of all modern materials, MDF is the most durable, environmentally friendly and safe.

Many manufacturers produce high-strength MDF - HDF. It is made by hot pressing of wood fibers. This material is in no way inferior to solid wood.

Installation of doors in aerated concrete and in a wooden house

Stages of installing doors in aerated concrete

To carry out such work, it is necessary to prepare welding and buy a metal corner with a shelf width of 3.5 to 5 centimeters (the choice depends on the weight of the door and the expected loads).

Next, it is necessary to trim the metal corner so that when welding the joints of individual parts, it can cover the doorway along the entire perimeter on both sides. To strengthen the two frames together, it is necessary to weld the embedded parts, and the shank must have a thickness of at least 3 millimeters and a width of 5 centimeters. These elements are placed at the places where the door frame is attached. The door frame is fixed using screws on previously installed lintels.

For reliable fastening, you should use 12-centimeter self-tapping screws, which are screwed into each of the tires. It should be noted that the door will also be attached in these places, so the screws should under no circumstances overlap each other. At the next stage of installing doors in aerated concrete, use a building level to align the door frame, and then fix its position using wooden wedges.

The final fixation of the door leaf is carried out using screws up to 15 centimeters long or dowels.

After this, it is necessary to coat all the cracks with sealant or blow out with foam.

Installation of an iron door in a wooden house

You can install a new front door with your own hands in just three steps:

  • dismantling the old structure;
  • doorway preparation;
  • installation of an iron door.

The old entrance doors to the apartment are dismantled like this (mostly wooden):

  1. Provided that the door leaf worked on collapsible hinges, we pry it open with a crowbar or other lever. This way the panel will rise and jump off the loop. Provided that the hinges are not dismountable: you need to unscrew the screws that hold the door in the frame using a screwdriver or screwdriver.
  2. It is not difficult to dismantle an empty box with your own hands if it is made of wood. To do this, fasteners (visible) are unscrewed: screws, anchors, nails are pulled out. If the box is firmly held in the opening and cannot be removed, its side posts are sawed off and torn off with a crowbar. After which the lower and upper parts can be removed without any problems.
  3. If a metal box is being dismantled or a wooden box is attached to the opening with anchors, then it is easier to saw them off with a grinder, just like metal posts.
  4. Next, the opening is cleaned of old insulation, remnants of plaster, protruding fasteners and other things. Provided that the doorway for the new door has been previously correctly measured, its size should exceed the perimeter of the frame by a couple of centimeters. This is necessary so that there is enough space to align it in the opening. If you made a mistake in measurements earlier, you will have to work hard to widen the passage with a grinder with a circle on the stone. If the opening is too wide, it can be narrowed by additionally applying cement mortar.

A metal frame can be attached to a doorway in two ways:

through technological holes in the box profile;

using special mounting plates.

We put the input structure:

A door frame without a leaf is installed in the opening. Wood wedges are placed under it, which are necessary for fixing, adjusting its position and to ensure technological clearances.

  1. Having adjusted the position of the box, they begin to drill holes in the wall through the previously made holes in the profile: 15-20 cm deep. Anchors are inserted into the drilled sockets, and the position of the racks is checked again. When positioned correctly, the anchors are twisted and covered with decorative elements matching the color of the box.
  2. Next, the door leaf is hung on pre-lubricated hinges and all the fittings are attached. The canvas is covered, and the gaps around the perimeter of the rack are checked, which should not exceed 4 mm.
  3. The functioning of all latches and locks is checked. Inaccuracies are eliminated with wedges. Holes are drilled for the second pillar, which we also secure and check for smooth movement of the door leaf and locks.
  4. The technological gaps between the box and the wall opening are filled with foam, which must dry for at least 24 hours. After which the remaining foam is cut off, and the surface of the wall is puttied. Installation completed.

Mounting the door block on plates is one of the most common methods and is somewhat simplified for doing the work yourself. Often, metal structures are equipped with mounting plates with prepared holes for fasteners, which are welded directly to the frame.

Installation of MDF doors

Every year, interior doors made of MDF become more popular. To satisfy customer requests, the production of MDF doors is carried out in accordance with fashion trends.

For decoration, different types of glass are used: frosted, transparent, darkened, smoky, textured. A rich palette of shades allows you to choose products to suit any interior.

Panel

Such products are very popular for furnishing rooms with a modern interior. They have a special design. In the production of doors, a single piece is used. Main components: frame, filler and finishing.

Pine timber is used to make the frame. MDF sheets are attached on top of it, empty cavities are filled with hardboard or cardboard. Lightness and good insulation of the door are achieved due to hollow filler cells. Often the panel fabric is decorated with glass inserts. Expensive and high-quality structures made of MDF have an internal filling made from the same material.

Paneled

The basis of the canvas is the frame. For its production, beams made of solid wood or laminated veneer lumber are used, which have undergone careful selection and drying. The frame consists of two vertical posts connected by horizontal crossbars - drawers. Grooves for the panel are cut on the inside. The frame itself, made of four elements, turns out to be shaky. For reinforcement, auxiliary jumpers are used to provide spatial rigidity. The design is resistant to distortions, bends and deformation. Glass and MDF panels are used for filling. MDF panel doors have both a modern and classic look.

Why is it so popular in door production?

MDF in the production of doors and moldings has gained its popularity due to its versatility, practicality, durability and environmental friendliness.

The physical characteristics of MDF for the manufacture of interior doors include:

  1. Sound insulation – ensured due to high density. As for doors, this indicator depends not only on the door leaf, but also on the box timber. Thus, MDF doors + box timber with a seal provide excellent sound insulation.
  2. Resistant to high humidity and temperature changes. MDF doors perfectly retain their shape and do not swell from humidity and vapors, while solid wood structures change in size, which in the future can affect not only the aesthetic appearance, but also the closure.
  3. Simplicity in finishing, as well as in manufacturing products. It is easy to work with MDF boards - you can use them to create completely different design options for a doorway. Thanks to the perfectly flat surface, any coating adheres firmly and reliably, without forming flaws or unevenness. The evenness of the surface of MDF sheets is very important when applying enamel.

MDF drawer door with eco-veneer coating

  1. Easy to process. High-density MDF allows you to create beautiful and clear panels with rounded edges, as well as milling, which are widely used in panel doors. It is easy to make individual door elements from this material (platbands, figured platbands, capitals).
  2. Environmental friendliness. In the manufacture of MDF boards, synthetic resins and other toxic substances are not used, which ensures complete environmental safety.
  3. Hygiene. This material is resistant to fungi and mold, which makes it easier to use the products in everyday life.

The density of MDF doors significantly affects their final cost. The thicker the sheets were used to make individual parts of door structures and the higher their density, the more expensive the product. Some models of MDF doors using panels, glass, milling, high-quality coating and other decorative features “catch up” with the cost of solid wood doors.

Due to its physical characteristics and main advantages, MDF material is widely used for the manufacture of various interior doors, which determines its popularity.

Decorative coatings

The outer cladding of the door affects the cost. Not only the decorative properties of the product depend on it, but also its resistance to temperature changes, moisture, mechanical stress, abrasion, sunlight and other negative factors.

There are several types of MDF door covering:

  1. Doors for painting. Made from medium density fiberboard. The products have an unfinished appearance. Primed ones go on sale. All that remains is to decide on the color, paint and cover the canvas. Such doors with MDF finishing will harmoniously fit into any interior.

  2. Painted. They differ from the first option in that they are already covered with enamel. The color palette is unlimited and the choice of shades can satisfy the most demanding consumer. This explains the growing popularity of painted MDF doors. The enamel coating is carried out in several layers, and is secured on top with a protective compound.

  3. Laminated. Laminated MDF doors are manufactured using film coating technology. It can be made from different materials, but melamine is considered the highest quality. Cellulose-coated products are more common. Such MDF doors have a beautiful appearance, low cost and light weight.

  4. PVC coated. The use of this material allows you to give the product any color and pattern. PVC film is fixed to MDF doors using high temperatures and pressure. This finishing application technology allows for high-quality coating of structures even with a very complex design. The material has good characteristics (high moisture resistance, wear resistance and durability).

  5. Veneered. Among all existing types they are the most expensive. They are made from natural wood, thanks to which they have the same characteristics as wood. The high cost of this finishing material is due to the fact that valuable wood species are used for its production. Interior doors made of MDF are covered with veneer under pressure. For better gluing, special glue is used. The door leaf is varnished to protect and provide resistance to the negative effects of external factors. This gives the product a chic and more expensive look.

  6. Eco-veneer This is an artificial material that allows you to accurately copy the pattern of valuable wood species. For production, natural wood fibers and a synthetic binder are used. The products are resistant to a wide range of temperatures and humidity. This surface is difficult to scratch and can withstand light impacts.

Care instructions

For a door to last longer, it needs to be properly cared for. To do this, you should consider the following recommendations:

  1. They must be protected from any shocks and mechanical damage.
  2. The structure should not be exposed to high temperatures.
  3. Metal moving elements must be treated with special lubricants or motor oil so that they do not make extraneous sounds. In the event of a breakdown, the moving element must be replaced with a new one. You can do this yourself or contact a professional technician.
  4. Dirt is removed with a damp cloth with the addition of detergents. It is important to choose cleaning compounds designed for wooden surfaces. Otherwise, the wooden surface or protective film will be damaged. Leather upholstery is cleaned with special products.
  5. To smooth out surface cracks and small scratches, which often form in the lower part of the canvas, the coating is treated with wax polish.
  6. If large cracks or chips appear, it is recommended to apply a layer of varnish yourself. Bulges and bubbles are removed using a grinder with a grinding wheel. They cannot be cut.
  7. For painting, choose the compositions recommended by the manufacturer.

MDF models are considered popular for many reasons. They have significant advantages over other materials. MDF entrance structures are similar to expensive solid wood models, but are much cheaper.

What do you need to know about choosing a quality MDF door?

In order to buy a high-quality and reliable product, you need to know the features of choosing MDF panels.

  • You need to carefully examine the ends of the product, which often have various defects.
  • The surface should be perfectly smooth without chips or blisters.
  • In models with glass inserts, it is necessary to check how securely and firmly the glass holds.
  • If the door must provide good sound insulation, the design is equipped with a special rubber band for the frame and a threshold. The insulating properties of the fabric are affected by its thickness.

Minuses

— Due to the structural features of MDF, doors have a very heavy weight, from 40 to 60 kg, depending on the size. The box and hinges are constantly under heavy load, so they should be given attention. But if the fastening of the box to the wall is done correctly and the canvas hangs on at least three hinges, then there is no reason to worry. — Due to the large weight of MDF interior doors, it is highly not recommended to install them in openings in plasterboard partitions; there is a high probability of microcracks appearing on the wall or damaging the design of the door block or partition. — Since the MDF material tends to deform slightly over time, the groove for the glass in the panel can expand by 1-2 mm, which leads to the glass rattling when the door is closed. But this defect can be eliminated using silicone or acrylic sealant. — The PVC film on door leaves of this type is not wrapped around the part, as in drawer interior doors, but one film is placed on top of only one plane. This inevitably results in an unwanted junction between the film and the edge at the ends. — In the depths of milled patterns and grooves for glass in MDF doors, the film fits well thanks to membrane-vacuum pressing technology. But during operation, when the canvas is exposed to high temperatures (sunlight or a heating radiator), the PVC film can peel off deep in the groove. This phenomenon occurs due to the property of PVC film to shrink under the influence of temperature.

Advantages of MDF

Like any material, MDF doors have pros and cons.

The main advantages of MDF include:

  • Despite the fact that the material is made from chips, it has high strength and resistance to physical impact.
  • Even sheets of small thickness have good sound insulation characteristics.
  • The material has excellent resistance to temperature changes.
  • The plate has a long service life and is not subject to deformation, thanks to the addition of special compounds.
  • Environmental friendliness. The material does not emit toxic substances.
  • Price. The optimum ratio of price and quality.

Only high-quality MDF doors have these characteristics.

Structure of the material and its properties

Wood fiber has long been used in the production of boards. But traditional chipboards and fiberboards lack strength and resistance to environmental influences. There is a risk of moisture penetration into wood fibers and their premature destruction. In conditions of high humidity and temperature changes, these materials may lose their performance.

MDF and chipboard

The MDF board has a similar structure; it also consists of wood particles and components that hold them together and ensure solidity. But this material has certain differences. In its production, small wood elements are used; the adhesion of the fractions is ensured by urea resin. It contains melamine, which does not allow harmful ingredients to be released during heat treatment.

This structure gives MDF door panels:

  • high density, strength;
  • resistance to moisture and temperature changes;
  • long service life;
  • suitability for processing.

MDF boards have a high density

Small fractions and high-quality adhesive composition prevent the penetration of moisture into the structure and premature destruction. The plates can be embossed and bend perfectly without losing their properties. The material has high mechanical strength. The MDF panel on the front door provides reliable protection for the home.

Disadvantages of MDF

  • Thin slabs are very fragile and can easily break if the load increases.

  • Low fire resistance.
  • Thick and high-quality canvases are expensive, like natural wood.
  • High humidity leads to swelling and damage to the door.

The choice of good quality canvas and proper operation completely neutralize the disadvantages.

Dear doors

High cost is not an indicator of quality (often an inflated price for a door is the result of a longer chain of intermediaries between the manufacturer and the buyer, as well as a markup for the “name” of the manufacturer). Although a door that costs more than 10 thousand rubles is most often a hand-assembled product, created without the use of wood-substituting materials. The production of such a door includes the following steps:

  • preparation of blanks (from oak, maple, exotic and other types of wood) of the required size, including drying them in a special chamber (this part of the process is the same for both cheap and expensive door panels), sanding and painting with special compounds;
  • assembling the door manually from individual elements fastened together with metal clamps (glass is inserted into such a door at the initial stage of door assembly, and it is, as it were, the center of the canvas around which the product is formed);
  • veneer cladding;
  • painting (at least 6 layers, including surface varnishing).

Hand-assembled doors usually have a more complex design and coloring, since the door leaf is often painted by hand, which allows you to give it additional volume by playing with dark and light elements.

Advantages of expensive doors:

  • respectable appearance,
  • good sound insulation - the absence of an air gap inside the door leaf and the presence instead of solid wooden elements significantly reduces the level of noise passing through the door;
  • durable glass inserts - in the production of expensive doors, triplex is usually used (two layers of glass, “baked” in a special oven with a transparent polymer film laid between them), which can withstand even a hammer blow;
  • variety of design solutions.

The disadvantages of such doors include their cost, significant weight (often their installation requires not two, but three or four hinges), as well as loss of soundproofing properties if the door leaf was installed in the frame without seals.

But the thermal insulation qualities of cheap and expensive doors are often the same, since the air gap, like solid wood, is a poor conductor of heat. However, you should not stick a seal around the entire perimeter of the door frame (at the bottom, a simple threshold formed by the same frame is sufficient), otherwise, with the plastic windows closed, when the door is closed, a pop will be felt and unpleasant sensations will arise for the human body. In addition, doors made entirely of wood may shrink slightly or thin cracks may appear between individual elements of the product if the recommended conditions for their operation are violated (for example, your neighbors were flooded and the doors were exposed to high humidity for a long time, etc.) . In such cases, it is better to contact the company that sold you these doors and use the help of their specialists to eliminate the defects that have appeared.

How to care for an MDF door?

Daily care for these products is the same as for any other. It is enough to wash the interior doors made of MDF and wipe them dry in order to prevent swelling and delamination of the canvas. Do not use products with abrasives to avoid damaging the surface of the MDF door. It is also necessary to ensure an optimal level of humidity in the room.

In order to clean grease stains from MDF doors, you need to wash them with soapy water. If one procedure does not help, then it must be repeated.

What is the difference between MDF and chipboard and solid wood?

Chipboards are chipboards made by pressing small wood chips with the addition of special glue. There is pressed, moisture-resistant, laminated, and extruded chipboard. The first and third types of this material are used for the production of inexpensive doors, as well as furniture.

The difference between MDF and chipboard is immediately noticeable, MDF is a homogeneous material, while chipboard consists of fairly large fragments of wood and voids, immediately visible to the naked eye

Comparative characteristics of MDF and other materials used for the manufacture of doors:

Indicators and characteristics of the material MDF Chipboard Pine Oak Beech Alder Ash
Flexural strength (kg/m3) 22 33-47 (depending on brand) 79 93 94 69 107
Density (kg/m3) 600-850 Less than 600 450-500 720 490 690 750
Hardness MPa (kgf/mm2) 5,8 2,94 -3,0 2,49 3,8 3,8 2,4 4,1
Moisture resistance High Average Average Average Average Average Average
Environmental friendliness High Average High High High High High

Based on the table, it can be seen that MDF is superior to chipboard and solid wood in terms of hardness - 5.8 kgf/mm2 due to the homogeneity of the structure. Due to the increased hardness of MDF compared to other wood materials, it does not crumble, which facilitates the milling process. Moreover, at the exit from the machine you immediately get a finished, smooth surface, which is even suitable for painting without additional sanding.

Milling the panel relief in the top layer of MDF

The density of MDF is as close as possible to oak (690-750 kg/m3), since it is 600-850 kg/m3, compared to pine (450-500 kg/m3) and alder (490 kg/m3). Thanks to the high density, the reliability and sound insulation of door structures is ensured.

However, the low bending strength of MDF (22 kg/m3) indicates increased fragility and low impact strength in contrast to chipboard and solid wood. Therefore, MDF doors are more damaged by targeted impacts.

Why is it more profitable to purchase interior doors made from MDF than from solid wood?

Door structures made from 100% solid wood are the most expensive. In terms of environmental friendliness and manufacturability, natural material cannot be compared with any other. However, solid wood doors have their drawbacks - wood reacts to temperature changes and is afraid of high humidity, which can lead to delamination of the wood, as well as a change in its shape.

MDF is simply an ideal base for finishing with natural veneer - does not change size, smooth, hard, dense

MDF doors are an excellent alternative to expensive products made from solid pine, oak, beech, and ash. Their physical and technological properties are as close as possible to the characteristics of natural wood. They have proven themselves well during long-term use in the door industry. Products made from MDF are the best option for designing doorways in both residential and office premises.

Paneled

The frame of paneled interior doors is located along the perimeter of the door leaf. It is possible to use horizontal or vertical solid wood inserts in the middle of the structure. These elements significantly increase the strength of the product. MDF boards are installed on top of the frame to make the canvas even. Internal voids are closed using panels made of glass or MDF.

This type of canvas has a very original appearance and is a completely collapsible structure.

Methods of decorating MDF panels

  • Milling. Patterns of varying complexity and configuration are cut out on the surface of the wood panel. They can be of different depths, which allows you to create structures with an original pattern and unique design.
  • Inserts. Doors are often decorated with elements made of frosted, transparent or tinted glass. A mirror is sometimes placed on the inside. All options visually enlarge the space and fill it with light.
  • Forging. Forged elements go well with wood, so they are sometimes used together. At the same time, metal inserts act as additional protection and reinforcement of the canvas, making it resistant to burglary. Their designs are varied.
  • Panels. Panels can be cut into small pieces and assembled in different patterns to create classic finishes.

Opening methods

There are different types of opening interior doors. The structure is placed in the opening and, when closed, isolates the interior. Based on the method of moving the door leaf and the structural design, the leaves are divided into the following types:

  • swing;
  • folding;
  • sliding;
  • pendulum;
  • rotary

There are quite a few types of opening. For each room you can choose the most appropriate design. Doors to the common area, hall or kitchen can open differently.

Swing

Doors between rooms with a swing opening system are the most common and popular due to the simplicity and reliability of the mechanism. The hinged panels are attached to the vertical bar of the box using hinges. To open such a structure and freely move the canvas along the radius, quite a lot of space is required, but such doors to the children's room, kitchen, and bedroom are most often used. Hinged door systems can have a right or left opening, and can also swing inward or outward.

Sliding

Sliding door structures consist of several panels that slide parallel to the wall along special guides using rollers. Sliding doors to a large hall or living room, when you need to divide the room into zones, are an excellent solution.

In limited and narrow spaces, it would be more correct to use such a door system, since it allows you to save useful space. The number of sashes is determined by the width of the opening. Structures of this type have low thermal insulation and are not able to provide the proper level of protection from dust and noise.

Folding

Folding types of interior doors are in the middle position between sliding and swing systems. They are book- or accordion-shaped structures, consisting of several (2-4) doors. The canvases are connected to each other using movable hinges.

Most often, folding door systems are installed in beauty salons, dressing rooms, massage parlors, offices, etc. A variety of materials are used for their production (plastic, aluminum, wood, etc.).

Pros and cons of doors with wood panels

Among the advantages of the paintings are:

Safety.

MDF is created from natural and harmless materials. The main component is small chips that are formed during wood processing. Under high pressure, a viscous component, lignin, is released from it. It firmly connects all fractions, resulting in a canvas that is not inferior in quality to solid wood.

Practicality.

Wood panels are resistant to many mechanical damages. They are quite difficult to damage, scratch or split. They can withstand constant loads, frequent openings and closings. With prolonged use they do not deform or sag. They can be used in different conditions and are coated with protective compounds.

Functionality.

Installed both inside the door and outside. They are decorated with various materials, in particular – veneer, laminate, PVC film. They are unpretentious in care, do not require difficult maintenance or frequent replacement. During operation, it is necessary to occasionally wipe off dust. Dirt can be removed with simple cleaning agents and water.

Attractiveness.

They lend themselves well to processing and milling, so they can be decorated with geometric patterns, complex, ornate ornaments. Models with patina look great. The doors are decorated with inserts - forging, mirrors, stained glass, glass. They fit perfectly into the interiors of city houses, cottages, office and administrative buildings.

The disadvantages include:

  • The cheap coating on the panel fades in the sun and loses its attractiveness.
  • It is better to choose models with MDF on the inside rather than the outside side.
  • The surface can be damaged by sharp objects, which will require replacement of the blade.
  • It is very difficult to change the panel on your own - you need the help of professionals.

Door leaf

This is the most significant and significant part of interior and entrance doors, which performs an important function: opening and blocking the opening. There is a great variety of products on the market that differ in design, weight, size, lining and material of manufacture. There are several types of door leaves:

Moldings

This element is necessary for installing the door and giving the product a finished look. The design of the molding contains several parts: the box, platbands and extensions.

There are two main types of moldings - standard type and telescopic. The peculiarity of the latter is that it has grooves in its design for expanding the door frame to the required thickness by pulling out the extension and platbands.

Box

This element is made in the form of a fixed profile of an interior block and consists of one horizontal crossbar and two vertical posts. Hinges are attached to the frame, onto which the door leaf is hung. The shape of door frames can be traditional or complex in shape. In telescopic moldings, the box is made of MDF or solid wood and has longitudinal slots for platbands.

Platbands

These elements of the door structure are used to mask the area where the door leaf and frame join. Most often, platbands are made from solid wood or MDF coated with veneer. There are two types of platbands based on the type of fastening:

  • overhead - fixed with glue or attached with screws;
  • telescopic - equipped with wings for insertion into the box, which allows you to quickly and aesthetically close even significant gaps.

Dobor

This element is a strip and serves to expand the door frame when the wall width exceeds the corresponding frame indicators. During the production of doors, dimensional standards are observed. The standard dimensions of the canvas also correspond to the standard dimensions of the box. In the case when the thickness of the wall is greater than the width of the frame, an extension is used, which is made from the material of the door leaf. The installation of the extension is carried out close to the box or in a groove specially designed for this purpose. The addition imparts high aesthetic qualities to the interior block and connects all the elements into a single monolithic structure.
