Curtains for the bedroom - the final touch of interior design

Photo: zen.yandex.ru Healthy sleep requires not only a good mattress, the right temperature and comfortable linen, but also complete darkness. Therefore, even if you don’t like curtains or textiles in general, we don’t recommend giving up curtains, at least in the bedroom. And now we will tell you how to choose them and what to pay attention to!

Design features

The bedroom creates a special coziness that is unique to this room, so it is important to think through the interior style in advance in order to choose the right wall color, textiles and curtains.
Curtains can be simple and serve the practical purpose of darkening a room, but they can also be an artistic highlight in a bedroom. To make daytime sleep comfortable, you need to choose light-proof blackout curtains. If little daylight gets into the room, then you can get by with light fabrics.

Curtains made of heavy fabrics are well suited for spacious rooms with good natural light and a classic design. Such curtains protect from bright light, create the necessary comfort in the room, and improve its appearance and design.

Curtains are usually made from well-draped fabrics; they can be monochrome, with large or small patterns, or fringe. To give greater expressiveness, you can use soft or hard lambrequins, the choice of which depends on the style of the interior.

Color solution

The choice of color and shade of curtains will play an important role in the interior of the bedroom; it should suit the style and size of the room.

White curtains are suitable for any bedroom interior, combined with brown, brightly colored walls, and beige shades. White translucent fabrics look best rather than thick drapes.

The photo shows a bedroom interior in white and brown tones with translucent curtains that are attached to the ceiling niche and create the effect of the fabric falling down.

Black curtains in the bedroom interior are an undeniable accent, suitable for modern styles, and must be combined with white or other light walls, light tulle. Not suitable for small rooms.

Beige curtains without decoration act more as a background for bright decoration or other interior items, a win-win choice for any design, they always remain in fashion.

Peach curtains are combined with olive, pistachio, white, and beige walls. Creates an atmosphere of relaxation, combined with tulle several tones lighter.

The photo shows a pastel interior with peach curtains, which became a color accent in a neutral bedroom.

Brown curtains cannot be called strict; a variety of chocolate and coffee shades allow you to choose the desired color. They symbolize stability and constancy. Chocolate shades are suitable for large bedrooms, and coffee shades are suitable for medium and small bedrooms.

The gray color of curtains, due to the richness of light and dark shades, as well as neutrality, will suit the interior of the bedroom in combination with any color of the walls and tulle.

Green colors in any shade promote relaxation and accumulation of strength; natural colors have a good effect on relaxation. One of the successful colors that can be combined with brown, yellow, blue, and white.

The photo shows a gray-green interior with double curtains and tulle that match the color of the headboard.

Purple curtains can be delicate purple, lilac or light fabrics, or heavy dark purple with black, gold or white edging and fringe. They add mysticism, luxury and romance to the bedroom interior.

Red curtains are best used in pastel colors, or they need to be diluted with more neutral colors such as white, gray, beige.

Burgundy curtains are suitable for creating a mysterious, luxurious interior. Combined with gold, black, white, brown trim and decor. They shade the bedroom well and are suitable for cool rooms.

Pink curtains in pastel colors have a beneficial effect on relaxation and the perception of the room. Suitable for blue, beige, pink, gold bedroom interiors.

The photo shows a colored interior with bright pink curtains against a background of black and white wallpaper, where daylighting and mirrors allow the walls to look monochromatic.

Blue curtains promote relaxation and are pleasing to the eye. One of the most suitable colors for a bedroom interior, combined with blue, white, gold, and brown.

Blue curtains cool a hot sunny room, set the mood for relaxation, and are combined with other shades of blue, light blue, yellow, and white.

Turquoise curtains in the bedroom look light, are suitable for weightless fabrics, and can be combined with white, black, yellow, pink, and gold.

The photo shows a turquoise and white interior with classic thick curtains and light tulle.

Yellow curtains are associated with summer warmth, expand the space, and warm a room where there is not enough daylight. Combine with blue, turquoise, emerald white.

Golden curtains, like yellow ones, warm the bedroom and create a luxurious window look; gold threads and embroidery add extra shine. Combined with burgundy, white, blue, emerald, cream colors.

The main purpose

If we take into account that the word curtains comes from “garder”, translated from English to protect, this product has another meaning, so airy materials are replaced by curtains that cover the window well.

Considering window decor as an element of window decoration, we can emphasize its main functional features, namely:

Window block decoration. Curtains change the window space, making strict lines an almost transparent, airy and comfortable space.

The peaceful atmosphere in the bedroom is conducive to a pleasant rest

Diffusing bright natural light. Designers use this opportunity to create an exclusive interior space in which light and gilded shades are in harmony.

Protecting the environment from burnout.

Creating an atmosphere of privacy during the day. Today this problem is quite common, because in a populated area it is difficult to be alone with your own thoughts, and you really want to be separated from everyone.

Choosing the color of the bedroom

When choosing curtains for the bedroom, it is important to start from the interior and the color of the walls.

Translucent white, blue, pink, peach curtains, bright orange, yellow, light green shades, burgundy, emerald, gold, coffee, brown tones are suitable for a bright bedroom.

In a dark bedroom, you should choose the color of the curtains to match the walls, or another light shade. For a brown bedroom, milky shades, beige, sand, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee are suitable.

For a black and white bedroom, it is better to choose red or white curtains so as not to overload the interior with color variety.

The photo shows a black and white interior, which, due to the dominance of white, looks stylish and luxurious. White tulle matches the carpet and bedding, while black drapes complement the lampshades, table and frame.

A colored bedroom looks elegant, so you can choose curtains in a neutral, the same or contrasting color. A green room in muted shades of pistachio or olive is combined with white, gold, brown, blue, and beige curtains.

Purple, white, gray, and silver curtains will fit into a lilac interior.

Pink walls in the bedroom are combined with white, black, blue, gold, pink, turquoise, gray curtains.

Color scheme for window decoration

When choosing a design option, it is recommended to pay attention to the palette and recommended shade accents. Flashy, overly bright shades are not used for the bedroom, but monochrome faded curtains will not add more harmony to the atmosphere. The best options would be turquoise, olive, peach, blue, lavender, but all of them should go well with the palette of textiles already used for the interior and create more harmony.

To select the color of curtains, you can use plain curtains, but for greater expressiveness, accents such as special curtain clips, cords with crystals, and ribbons are recommended. This will highlight the overall dominant shade, which will be emphasized and become more expressive. Accessories should be selected so that their color matches the pattern of the walls, baseboards or cornices.

For a bold interior with a modern, bright design, contrasting, rather unusual solutions are allowed. A good choice would be the following combinations: beige and blue, gold and turquoise, lavender and olive, pink and gray. The color scheme for curtains should repeat the tones used for the bedroom interior, upholstery, and sofa cushions.

For small, rather poorly lit rooms, light shades will be more effective, which will visually make the area larger. But don’t take white monochrome curtains, as they can simply “dissolve” in the rest of the decor. The best option would be sandy, light yellow golden-honey curtains with a contrasting subtle pattern. This will give the environment more expressiveness, individuality and harmony.

Types of curtains

The choice of curtain type depends on the style being created; classic curtains are suitable for familiar interiors, roller and Roman curtains are suitable for modern apartments, where the emphasis is not on drapery.

Classic long curtains, consisting of two panels, combined with tulle, can be made of dense or light material that allows the rays of the sun to pass through. They look familiar, strict and stylish without a lambrequin, and luxurious with it.

Short curtains in the bedroom can be up to the windowsill or lower. Suitable for country style, classic, shabby chic. They leave the space under the window uncovered and do not interfere with the spread of heat from the radiators.

The photo shows short classic curtains that do not cover the radiator in the bedroom and open the window sill as a workplace or dressing table.

Roman blinds are available in a wide range of decor and styles. They can be mounted on the opening and on the window frame. They are easy to use and can also be combined with tulle or curtains.

With a lambrequin, the curtains look luxurious. Its length and the splendor of the draperies depend on the choice; the lambrequin visually enlarges the window if hung from the ceiling.

Roller blinds are lifted by winding onto a shaft that is mounted above the opening or on the window frame.

Curtains with tulle regulate the degree of lighting in the room, where curtains darken the bedroom in the dark, and tulle diffuses the daytime rays of the sun.

Double curtains are combined from two fabrics of the same composition, but different in design, for example, plain and patterned. Also called double curtains, which are made in contrasting colors on different sides, which creates an unusual look when draping fabric with tiebacks.

The photo shows a turquoise-brown bedroom interior with double curtains and tulle on a tubular cornice, which emphasize the equality of the two colors.

Curtains on one side are convenient when there is a balcony door, when the whole canvas is fixed to one side with the help of garters.

Blinds in the interior of a bedroom can be vertical or horizontal, made of fabric or plastic, less often made of aluminum. This type is usually suitable for rooms where you need to use the window sill as a shelf or table.

Curtains with photo printing of a 3D painting or landscape can be combined with a bedspread. In this case, there is no need to clutter the interior with additional accessories.

Thread curtains in the bedroom are used independently or together with curtains. They can be with beads or sequins, they can also be used to decorate a bed and create zoning of space.

French curtains with soft waves create an atmosphere of luxury, scallops add charm to the bedroom. They can be lifting or static, depending on the density of the fabric they can be tulle or curtains.

Combined ones are created by combining two or more types of curtains, for example, they combine tulle with Roman or roller blinds, French blinds with curtains, blinds with tulle.

The photo shows a combination of bamboo curtains and classic drapes in an eco-friendly bedroom interior, which emphasize unity with nature and a focus on natural decor.

Purpose and selection of fabrics

The bedroom is the place where a person spends a third of his life. Here he falls asleep and relaxes, and wakes up in the morning, receiving a charge for a new day.

Therefore, it is very important that the window design combines several functions:

  • Created the necessary darkness
  • Created a feeling of lightness and atmosphere
  • Easily let in sunlight, but if necessary, made it possible to isolate yourself from it
  • Meets decorative purposes and emphasizes the main interior decoration
  • Created a feeling of bliss, warmth and comfort

Since curtains in the bedroom often have mutually exclusive functions, such as creating insulation and atmosphere, a combination of several fabrics would be optimal.

Heavy, opaque fabrics, such as velvet or thick linen, can create isolation and separation from the outside world. And light curtains made of bassist, silk or organza will add airiness.

Advice. For the bedroom it is better to choose natural fabrics: silk, linen or cotton. They are more expensive, but provide better air exchange in the room. These fabrics will last much longer than synthetic ones.

Cornice and methods of fastening

The ceiling cornice is attached to the ceiling, while the fabric covers the entire wall above the window, which visually makes the ceiling higher. The cornice can be made of wood, plastic, metal, string.

The baguette cornice in the bedroom hides all fasteners and hides work errors; the body is made of different materials and has from 1 to 3 strings inside.

Tubular cornices can be made of wood, plastic, or metal. It can be ceiling or wall mounted. The ends of the tube are decorated with hooks and tips of any shape.

The profile cornice in the bedroom is assembled from separate parts and can be mounted above the window opening. Depending on the curtains, it can be single-row (for tulle only), double-row (for tulle and curtains), three-row (+ lambrequin).

The photo shows a profile fastening of curtains with an arc into the window opening. The gray and white interior looks elegant due to good daylighting and glossy floors.

Forged cornices in the bedroom can withstand heavy fabric, they can be in the form of a baguette or a tube. They look good with the same tiebacks and high-quality fabrics, and can ruin a light pastel interior where only tulle is used.

On eyelets (rings of different diameters sewn into the fabric) curtains are suitable for decorating a window with a balcony door.

Look at more photos of tulle on eyelets in the interior.

Most often curtains are attached to rings. The rings can be matched to the color of the curtains, or differ in contrast. In a classic bedroom, gold rings with gold tie-backs and tassels will look good.

Curtains and tulle are attached to the hinges. The hinges can be blind or with Velcro or buttons for easy removal of fabric from the curtain rod and washing. The size of the loops, width, and their number are calculated based on the desired drapery.

Curtains are attached to the braid if you want to create frequent, lush drapery. The lace of the braid is tightened and the curtain is hung by the hooks.

Part one: components

The design of curtains can be much more complex than the usual “a few rings, two pieces of fabric.” It in itself is a way to express a certain idea, add sophistication to the bedroom, and appeal to a certain style.

Canvas and tiebacks

There are three types of fabric for any curtains:

  • curtains for the bedroom should be dark and thick - it has long been proven that a person sleeping in complete darkness gets enough sleep faster and is less susceptible to stress;
  • must provide sound insulation - sleeping in silence is more useful than in noise;
  • provide thermal insulation - especially if the windows are old, with cracks.

Bedroom curtains should be dark and thick

  • Roll. Rolled ones came from Asia and correspond to the usual minimalist style. Dense thin fabric is wound into a roll at the top when opened, and unwound back when opened.

Curtains and drapes are the most common and provide enormous scope for creativity. They can be used individually or combined (this is most often done).

There are also three ways to decorate them:

  • Draperies with curtains can hang freely to the floor. Either the fabric is straight and smoothed, or it has artistic, picturesque folds.

Curtains in the bedroom should provide sound insulation

  • You can use a pick-up. A lace, a wide ribbon, a fluffy brush, a wooden or metal ring, Velcro - the tiebacks come in a wide variety and can be attached at different heights. Their main function is practical - to hold curtains with drapes at the edges of the window. Additionally, there is also an aesthetic element - the tie often becomes an accessory that is designed to complement the overall composition. Interestingly, its color can either coincide with the main color or be contrasting - the effect is easy to imagine.
  • You can use a buffer. It is believed that this word came from France, its original meaning is “emptiness”. When applied to curtains, this is a way to add volume to the fabric. The fabric is hung to the cornice, then either sutured in a special way, or tied with a cord so that as a result the fabric reaches a specific height, creates a volumetric puff there, and then falls freely further. Recommended for bedrooms with high ceilings.

Classic style

The combination of just two elements can give the curtains some individuality. Further, adding more and more details, you can create a design that suits your bedroom.

Mounting methods and lambrequin

It would seem that there is nothing simpler than fixing the curtains on the eaves - and yet, this is an important design nuance that affects the overall impression of the room. There are:

  • On the rings . A common option that can be seen in most classic interiors. The rings can be wooden or metal, the fabric is attached to them using hooks. The main advantage of the design is that it slides easily, and if you pull the fabric, the hook will come off the ring, and there will be no more serious damage.
  • On the eyelets . Eyelets are the same rings, only they are built directly inside the fabric. They glide just as well, but if you pull, they will break off the cornice, most likely damaging the fabric. They come in different sizes, sometimes, for a more interesting effect, they are made in a contrasting color to the fabric. Their main advantage is that the canvas hanging from them lies in beautiful, even folds.

Option in combination with a suspended ceiling

  • With ties . Holes are made in the curtain, laces or ribbons are passed through them, and then carefully tied to the curtain rod. They are easy to change, if you get tired of them, you can fantasize about knots, bows, and tassels. The method is suitable for light, airy fabric - as a result, the curtain looks absolutely weightless and romantic.
  • On hinges . The loops are sewn into the top of the fabric (or attached to it with Velcro) and placed on the cornice. They may have different widths, the color may differ from the main one. They will add coziness to the bedroom, and are well suited for a nursery - if a child pulls the hanging edge, the Velcro loops will simply open, and there will be no damage.
  • On the drawstring . A special pocket is made at the top of the curtains, into which the cornice is inserted - the fabric itself is gathered at the top in dense small folds. The main advantage is noiselessness (both loops and ties have this advantage).

No squeaking metal - an exceptionally pleasant rustling of fabric.

Combination of curtains above the bed and on the window

A lambrequin will help to complement the top part of the curtains in cases where loops, drawstrings, ties are too frivolous, and eyelets and rings are too boring . It is the top horizontal element of the curtains - a piece of fabric that hangs from the curtain rod and covers the fastening method. It may be the same color as the rest of the canvas, or it may be contrasting.

A clear, smooth edge or fancy waves - you need to look at the appropriateness.

Lambrequins are:

  • Bando . A rigid lambrequin that cannot be folded into fancy folds and which makes the window visually larger if placed above the cornice, or wider if made wider than the window.
  • Swag . A soft lambrequin that lies in beautiful folds, while the edges hang freely. A solution for a classic interior, but hopelessly outdated for all modern styles.
  • Transfer . Also a soft lambrequin, which is thrown over the cornice in one or two places, the edges sag freely.

White room design

To prevent the edges from looking lonely, they are laid in folds: those beveled in one direction are called “jabot”, those beveled in both directions are called “moulds”, those laid exactly straight are called “tie”, and those closed into a round element are called “bell”.

Ruffles can complement the composition with lambrequins. A light, airy fabric, a thin section of which is attached to the edges of the main structure - as a result, they appear softer, less formal. Of course, ruffles do not go well with heavy fabric.

Advice Not all curtains need a lambrequin. Before you make it, have a good idea of how it will look in your bedroom.

Curtain design

Curtains of the same color in the bedroom look different depending on the fabric and design.

Plain curtains are combined with patterned wallpaper or plain walls. Suitable for any style depending on color.

Striped curtains can be plain or colored stripes of any width; they visually increase the space of the bedroom.

Checkered curtains from the Vichy to Tatran patterns will decorate a modern interior and a country-style bedroom.

Curtains with flowers of different scales, with patterns and patterns are suitable for plain wallpaper. For an original combination, you can choose the color of the bedspread under the curtains.

Description Art Deco

A distinctive feature of this direction is the use of various decorations in one combination. In this way, it is possible to display all the greatness and richness of the style. In fact, the Art Deco style is used to add bright accents.

  • The design direction is distinguished by its diversity.
  • The main emphasis is on the repetition of geometric patterns with elements of an ethnic motif.
  • The design includes the use of heavy types of fabric, which are most often made from natural velvet, silk and satin.
  • In addition to them, multi-tiered drapery or gold clamps are used.

To decorate the bedroom, choose a contrasting combination. For example, black and white shades are considered a favorite color scheme. In addition to expensive decorations, these colors look luxurious and rich.

Decoration

There are many options for window decoration and curtains that become an object of admiration.

The holders are mounted on the wall, hold the fabric and its drapery, and regulate the flow of light into the bedroom. The tiebacks are a rope, a tourniquet, a belt, beads, a chain, which are decorated with small soft toys, ceramic flowers, embroidery, and stones.

Clips resemble hairpins and come in metal, plastic and wood.

Decorations on pins will create a new perception of plain curtains, most often for the bedroom these are butterflies and flowers.

Tassels can decorate tiebacks or frame a lambrequin; fringe serves as a contrasting edging for velvet curtains.

Bedroom interior styles

Modern style is presented in a variety of designs, which are created with tulle, curtains of different lengths, roller blinds or Roman blinds. Most often these are plain canvases without a pattern, complex embroidery or design. Wide stripes, textured inserts, natural shades, and bright colors are acceptable.

A classic bedroom looks luxurious with scallops, frills, ruffles, and a combination of fringe and satin. Heavy curtains are combined with taffeta, burgundy color is complemented by turquoise, emerald shades, black or gold edging. Also, classics can be restrained in neutral brown and beige colors.

The photo shows an interior in a classic style, where tulle is combined with a velvet lambrequin and curtains. Accessories include fringe and garters with tassels.

A bedroom in Provence style is complemented by white, light green, olive, lilac, blue, pale pink curtains with ties, loops, and rings. Curtains can be plain, with a color transition, with a pattern of lavender, roses, or small bows.

What style to decorate the window in

As noted above, the design of a bedroom window is considered one of the components of a comfortable atmosphere. There are several stylistic trends that are most often used for arrangement.

These include:

  • Art Deco;
  • Provence;
  • Classic;
  • High tech;
  • Minimalism.

Each direction has its advantages and disadvantages. We invite you to take a closer look at each of them.

Curtain fabrics

The veil easily allows light and air flow to pass through and looks light. It can be used independently in winter; in summer, the veil in the bedroom is combined with thick curtains.

Blackout is distinguished by a high-density weave of threads. The fabric remains light-proof and temperature-resistant, which simplifies the decor of “hot” south-facing rooms.

Organza is easy to wash, does not wrinkle, and is made from silk with viscose or polyester. It gathers into waves and is combined with curtains.

Linen is most often used in natural or bleached colors. It takes shape easily, but may shrink when washed and requires careful ironing.

The photo shows curtains made of unbleached linen in a modern bedroom interior, which is a natural material and does not accumulate dust.

Velvet curtains can be long or short. Attached to a durable cornice, combined with satin and taffeta. Decorated with gold tassels and tiebacks.

Silk does not accumulate dust and static electricity, drapes easily, and is suitable for lambrequins. Silk fades and loses color, so it is important to use a lining.

The photo shows a bedroom interior with silk curtains, which match the material and color scheme of the bed textiles.

Cotton is a natural material, transmits light, is easy to wash and iron, but can also turn yellow over time, shrink from washing, and wrinkle. For curtains, calico, satin, taffeta, muslin, and veil are suitable.

Satin holds color, looks bright, can be dense and thin. Reflects light, shines, lightweight, dries quickly.

Jacquard is distinguished by the interweaving of threads and a complex pattern of silk threads on natural or synthetic fabric.

Part Two: Opening Styles and Principles

There are different types of curtains - they can be divided into three large groups, the first of which is sliding curtains.

Among them:

  • Classic straight lines . You can see it in most houses - the window is covered with tulle, thick curtains hang on the sides, which are closed at night. It’s hard to come up with something simpler; they’re suitable for bedrooms of any style.
  • Crossed . In fact, it’s the same classic, only the right part of the canvas is suspended from the cornice and fixed on the left side of the window, while the left is exactly the opposite. This is a way to slightly diversify the boring design of the classics, making it a little more daring and extravagant.
  • Cafe . This is an interesting option that should be used for the bedroom only if the rising sun does not look into it in the morning. The fact is that in this case the cornice is attached to the middle of the window, and not from the top, and as a result, light constantly falls into the part that always remains open. The design is complemented by a lambrequin on top; the lower edge of the curtains only reaches the window sill.

Such curtains look good if they are made of light colorful fabric, decorated with buttons, bows, ruffles - to emphasize the frivolity inherent in the design itself.

Art Nouveau style

  • Japanese . Such curtains are made of rigid fabric, most often mixed with plastic - it is attached to a frame that runs along the top of the window; if a person needs to change its position, he moves the fabric to the side, like a sliding door. This is original, you rarely see this in Russia. Particularly suitable for a minimalist style with a Japanese twist - in this case, it would be a good idea to order a paper-like canvas and hand-paint it.
  • Kiseya . In this case, thin heavy threads are used, which make up a curtain - they work as a replacement for curtains. They can be used on their own or in combination with heavy curtains. The main advantage is airiness and lightness. Kisey is best suited for a light, warm design with an emphasis on the window.

Gray, unusual color of the product

The second group is lifting

They coincide in width with the window, and do not move apart to the sides, but rise up.

Among them:

  • Austrian . They were very popular in the eighteenth century. They are a solid canvas that hangs evenly when lowered. But as soon as you lift it, strange folds form, which remain if you fix the curtain in the upper position. The lighter the curtain fabric, the looser, narrower the folds you get. Austrian curtains can be supplemented with heavy curtains, but more often they appear separately, on their own.
  • French . As the name suggests, they came from France. They are very similar to the Austrian ones, but with one minor difference - even when lowered, the canvas remains folded, which makes it a more interesting solution. Made from light, airy fabric - this is one of the style requirements.

Olive, brilliant color

  • Roman . They were popular back in the days of the Roman Empire, and are similar to the simplest version of blinds - a smooth fabric stitched at regular intervals to form horizontal slats. There is a cord attached to the back; once you pull it, the slats will rise. Allows you to regulate how light the room is, since the curtains can be stopped in an intermediate position. There are either the most strict, straight ones, or those that retain folds even in the lowered position.
  • English . They are similar in principle to Roman ones, but are made of light fabric, the folds are not hard, but soft, falling fancifully. The advantages are the same.
  • Rolled . They are as compact as possible and fit well into a minimalist interior. They are a dense fabric that, when rising, rolls into a narrow roll, invisible to the eye. It can be fixed in intermediate positions, it can be with patterns, drawings, or plain.
  • Pleated . They came from Germany and look even more like blinds than Roman ones. They are made of dense thin fabric, which is gathered into horizontal folds of the same size. Once you pull the cord attached to the side, the curtain is pulled to the top of the window and folded. You can stop it in an intermediate position, you can decorate the lace with a tassel or a bow, you can buy pleated ones made not from fabric, but from paper.

The third group is stationary

They are used infrequently, but in some cases they can significantly decorate the interior.

Among them:

  • Italian . They are similar to classic sliding ones, but they cannot be moved along the cornice - they are firmly attached to it. To open such curtains, you need to use a tieback. It is tied in the morning and untied in the evening. There are constant beautiful folds along the top. Well suited for non-standard windows where movement along the eaves is difficult.
  • Imperial . Curtains hang on two sides, and on top there is a lambrequin, which is laid in beautiful folds that sag towards the floor. The first sags only a little, the second is hemmed so that it sags lower, the third even lower. This cascade looks impressive and is suitable for a pompous bedroom.
  • Bishop sleeve . Curtains with lush puffs - from one to three or four - really look like the sleeve of a high-ranking clergyman.
  • Hourglass . They are fixed not on the side of the window, but in the middle. The canvas hangs down, a cord intercepts it in the middle so that its shape actually becomes similar to the shape of an hourglass.

Blue combined with white

In addition to those that can be hung on windows, curtains in other places will fit well into the bedroom design:

  • In the doorway . Not only acts as a decorative feature, but also increases sound insulation. Well suited to open arches.
  • Canopy . A good solution that can fit into any interior - it all depends on what kind of fabric will be used. And the canopy itself provides additional privacy, muffles sounds, does not let insects in, filters light, and for a child it can be an excellent material for building a treasure cave or a magic castle out of a bed.

But of course, styles and how the curtains open aren't everything. The last thing to consider is what fabric they are made from.

Curtains for a custom bedroom

Curtains can change the visual perception of space, which is important when decorating an unusual interior.

Curtains in a small bedroom should be plain, without ornament, simple in shape, without draperies. A simple curtain can be decorated with a cornice or decorative pins.

In the photo, the curtains and tulle are matched to the tone of the bedroom; the interior is visually enhanced by the mirrored façade of the closet and the daylight reflected in it.

For a narrow bedroom, curtains with horizontal stripes, plain or with diagonal lines are suitable. A simple cut, a minimum of draperies, flowing fabrics, and organza are welcome.

For a wooden house, natural fabrics, embroidery, window-shaped cornices, curtains to the floor or window sill, and tiebacks made of the same fabric are suitable.

A lambrequin and a complex composition are not suitable for an attic bedroom. The curtains are attached to the window with a bevel using two cornices, at the top and bottom. Depending on the direction of the world, curtains can be made of thick or light fabrics. Classic curtains, Roman curtains, and roller blinds are suitable.

The photo shows the interior of a dormer window with an original way of holding curtains.

A window with a bay window in the bedroom can be decorated with a common tulle with two curtains on the sides of the outer windows, you can decorate each window separately, or with a common tulle with individual curtains. French, Roman curtains, and tulle are suitable.

It is better to choose curtains for a window with a balcony door so that the exit is free or not difficult. You can leave the door uncurtained, but hang a roller blind on the door to match the curtains; you can also use eyelets or attach the curtains to one side.

When choosing curtains, it is better to rely on the advice of designers on key issues; the color of the curtains should be selected based on the rules for combining colors and their proportions in the interior. It will be doubly pleasant to relax in the bedroom if the shades contribute to this.

Criteria for correct selection

Curtains in a relaxation area are considered not only a decorative component. These details are used for practical purposes. They are able to provide a private atmosphere and hide personal life from prying eyes.

Fabric structures are considered the most relevant for those people who live on the ground floor. Thus, they may experience daily discomfort from their neighbors or strangers. An excellent option is the use of Roman, roller and Japanese curtains.

Such designs are able to protect the sleeping place from solar insolation and others.

  • When solving practical issues, it is necessary to correctly concentrate on the choice of decorative elements.
  • Experts recommend taking into account the stylistic direction of the design in which the relaxation area is decorated.
  • For example, for classic, modern and art deco, the ideal solution would be to select fabrics whose surface is decorated with a bright ornament, pattern and pronounced texture.
  • In addition, you must use forged curtains, clamps with voluminous tassels, or choose a design based on a lambrequin.
  • You should also consider the size of the interior space and the height of the ceilings.
  • If you have a spacious room, then any curtains will look perfect.
  • And if the room has a compact area, then the way out of this situation would be to use a curtain design in the minimalist style.

In this way, it is possible to visually increase the distance from the ceiling to the floor, as well as make the space more spacious.

In this case, it is not recommended to choose designs with lambrequins, as well as fabrics with large decor.
