Owners of a private house try to improve the area so that it is as comfortable as possible to spend time with family and friends. A properly designed barbecue area in the country will be an excellent place to relax, especially if you choose the location wisely and allocate the optimal area. It is important to choose good building materials, furniture and accessories. If you have no experience, following simple instructions, you can do a lot with your own hands.
A well-equipped barbecue area in the country will become a favorite place to relax
Selecting a location
Choosing a place for a barbecue area on the site requires compliance with certain conditions.
Safety because it is a source of open fire. The fryer should be located at a sufficient distance from the house or outbuildings to avoid fire. The grill is located away from bushes and trees.
Wind protection. The fire flame should be protected from strong gusts of wind. To do this, use natural terrain or buildings, that is, place a recreation area on the windward side of a hill or wall of a house. When choosing a location, you should take into account the interests of your neighbors; they should not be disturbed by the smoke from the fire or the noise of evening gatherings.
Take into account the presence of a barnyard or poultry house on the farm; the smells of animal activity can ruin dinner in the fresh air.
The best option is to build a protective wall along the barbecue; the height of the wall can be from 1.5 to 3.5 meters.
Ease of use. To the barbecue area you need to organize a comfortable, non-slip, fairly wide passage with good visibility, since the main period of use is in the evening. A location in close proximity to a country house meets these criteria, while it is convenient to use the kitchen and plumbing system of the house and keep an eye on the children on the playground in the yard.
A barbecue area is often included in a complex with a bathhouse, placing these two objects nearby. This provides access to water, and the bathhouse terrace serves as a covered dining area. Sometimes there is a separate location in the natural landscape of the estate; here you will need to lay good paths and organize evening lighting.
- Aesthetic environment. It is advisable to locate the barbecue area in a beautiful landscaped environment; people sitting on the area should not be looking at the fence or wall of the neighbor’s barn. You need to walk around the site, look at it from different angles and determine a suitable view point.
Location
Regardless of which arrangement idea you like best, you need to find a place for the site that meets certain criteria:
- Distance from home . If we are not talking about a patio, where everything is already clear, problems with distance may arise. On the one hand, it should not be small - otherwise, as soon as you have guests, smoke may come into the house. On the other hand, it should not be large - otherwise you will be exhausted bringing food from the refrigerator and taking away dirty dishes. In general, it is better if it is larger than smaller - you will not do anything with the smoke, but guests will help with carrying things.
- Safety . Regardless of what you have – whether it’s a hearth, a barbecue, or a real stove – there is a risk of fire. That is why the site is usually paved with tiles that do not burn, and is located away from anything that can catch fire - from wooden fences, trees, bushes, playgrounds.
Try not to place it close to the house so that smoke does not disturb
- Water . Bringing separate water to the site is costly and time-consuming. It is much easier to position it so that you don’t have to go too far to the water source.
- Wind . If you have a rough idea of what kind of wind blows most often in your dacha, you need to position the area so that smoke from it does not blow towards the house, the place where children play, and generally towards people.
- Relief . It is difficult to lay tiles on an uneven surface - most likely, you will have to level them additionally, which requires effort, time, and possibly the help of workers. Therefore, it is better to immediately choose a place that does not need it.
Great place for a patio
It’s good if you can locate the site somewhere away from the main entrance to the site - this will allow you to feel some privacy, which is always nice.
Advice Be sure to imagine whether it will be possible to lay a path to the barbecue. Otherwise, it may be inconvenient to get to it.
Make sure everything is arranged comfortably
Design options
There are many different options for arranging a barbecue area. The design and design of the structure depends on:
- plot size;
- exterior decoration of the house;
- fencing;
- general design of landscape design.
A covered pavilion can be located in the garden area. This design looks quite interesting and stylish, the main thing is that the design of the barbecue area matches the decoration of the house.
Any stoves can be used in open areas; for convenience, they can be supplemented with a canopy. The grill can be made stationary or mobile.
A very practical solution is to combine a barbecue with a gazebo. Thanks to this, you can cook delicious dishes right during the rain, and also increase the life of the devices by protecting them from precipitation. You can also organize a dining room here in the summer.
To create a harmonious and complete design, you need to carefully approach the choice of materials and furniture. All details must be thought out in advance.
The design of the barbecue area at the dacha is completed by planting green spaces. Small plants can serve as decoration and beautify the area; a hedge will help create a secluded atmosphere on the terrace. Trees and shrubs can also protect the area from gusts of wind and rising dust.
Uneven areas and hills are excellent for planting greenery for the table.
We advise starting the project with the right choice of location. Locations with blowing winds or the smell of the septic tank of a neighbor or your own site are clearly not suitable.
No. 5. Build or buy?
For rare outings into nature a portable grill or barbecue , and besides, it will not cost much. The choice in stores of such designs is huge: there are both the simplest in function and appearance, as well as designer designs with advanced functionality.
A stationary barbecue oven is an excellent option for those who spend a lot of time in their country house or countryside and cannot imagine a summer vacation without barbecue. You can build a stove either with the help of specialists or on your own - it all depends on the skills and complexity of the design. It is better to entrust a barbecue with a barbecue, a spit, a stove under a cauldron and other additional elements to professionals, and it is easy to lay out a U-shaped brick hearth with your own hands. This will require a minimum of effort, fireproof and fireclay bricks, and mortar. The height of this design is 1 m; two grates are attached between the walls, parallel to each other: one for coals, the second for food.
At the end of the picnic season, it is better to cover a stationary stove, if it is not under a canopy, with a protective cover, and first remove the grates so that they do not rust.
First stage: localization determination
The choice of a suitable location for the barbecue area depends on:
- Plot area. A large area allows you to install a massive structure; in a small area it is advisable to build a compact barbecue area.
- On a flat soil surface, you can choose any place; hilly terrain dictates its own rules: the required plot of land will have to be leveled or a structure erected on the most flat area possible.
- The barbecue area should be located at a sufficient distance from outbuildings, houses, and gardens. This is one of the most important conditions for ensuring safety.
- The grill must be protected from drafts and wind; unexpected changes in weather conditions should not spoil or cancel your vacation. They use the features of the landscape, choosing in the lowlands or behind the wall of the house. You can also build a protective wall for the barbecue; its height can be 1.5-3.5 m.
It is worth considering the presence of outbuildings with enclosures for animals. An unpleasant smell will prevent you from enjoying nature.
Distance from neighboring areas. Smoke, music and cheerful conversations with guests should not spread to neighbors.
In most cases, the barbecue is lit in the evenings; it is worth making a wide and comfortable passage to it from rough materials; a slippery surface can be dangerous. Or provide good evening lighting.
The location near the house allows you to have access to water supply and monitor what is happening on the site, for example, on the playground. You can also combine a bathhouse and a barbecue area; the terrace will be an excellent place to place a table.
Do not forget about the beauty of the composition; the building should be combined with the background.
The wooden barbecue area shown in the image goes well with the design of the house and fence.
The barbecue area can be placed on the patio, the walls will help protect the structure from the wind, and its close location to the house will allow you to use all the necessary communications.
Setting up a stove: master class
Standard dimensions of the structure: 90x100x90 (width x height x depth). They are laid directly on the ground using solid ceramic bricks.
Solution
The first five rows of masonry are connected with sand-cement mortar (diluted in a ratio of 3 to 1), the subsequent rows are traditionally connected with clay-sand. But it is safer to use heat-resistant oven glue (a dry mixture based on a special mineral binder with additives, diluted with water). Choose inexpensive moisture-resistant glue with a heat resistance rating of 750 degrees.
Firebox "box"
The “box” of the firebox (ignition) itself is laid out in half a brick and held together with stove glue. A steel frame is laid on top, and a steel sheet with a thickness of at least 4 mm is installed in it. The sheet is welded to the frame.
Add-ons
Additionally, you can provide a compartment for an oven or a table on the side, on which it is convenient to cook barbecue.
If the plan provides for the construction of a closed gazebo, a chimney is built. The smoke hood is installed directly on the firebox, secured with screws and anchors. A deflector is placed on the pipe, which avoids smoke and dissipates the smoke. Craftsmen also install smoking devices in the chimney.
For protection from the wind and for fire safety purposes, a brick wall 1.5-3.5 m high is erected along the back of the barbecue.
Canopy or roof
If the project includes a canopy, it can be made from simple film or ordered polycarbonate of suitable sizes. You can choose transparent, matte or colored. Yellow, green or blue on a bright sunny day will create a pleasant atmosphere in the interior space, filling it with a soft tint.
Any type will do: cellular and monolithic. The first one is cheaper and easier. Choose a high-quality product so that you can enjoy the new construction on your country house site for many years, so that you don’t have to think about reconstruction and repairs. The sheet thickness should be at least 4 mm (preferably 6-8). Thick ones can withstand harsh weather conditions (hail, strong gusts of wind).
The roof is equipped to protect from rain, bright sun and prying eyes. The classic option for arranging a gable roof is a rafter structure. A permanent roof made of andulin or metal tiles is erected only on reinforced supports (brickwork).
Walls
The walls are sheathed with corrugated sheets, a multi-layer sheet of wood chips. Or they provide window openings and insert glass into them. Glass can be replaced with film (“soft glass” for gazebos sells well) or polycarbonate. But more often in gardens there are still open structures with low partitions around the perimeter.
We arrange approaches (stone, paving slabs)
It is necessary to provide convenient approaches to the landscaped site: with good visibility and sufficiently wide. And organize lighting in the evening.
Decor
Decorating is the final stage. To finish the work and start enjoying the new relaxation area, we will arrange the furniture, add lighting, and decorate with decorative elements. Let’s visually fence off the workspace.
Styles
But before we start decorating, let’s determine the style direction. You can decorate a barbecue area (and this has already been proven in practice) in the following styles:
- Oriental,
- colonial,
- high tech,
- minimalism,
- rural flavor.
What should be in the barbecue area
After erecting the building, you need to think about setting up a barbecue area. At the first stage you need to choose a grill. It can be made of metal, or you can make a simple design yourself. A refractory brick oven should be erected during the construction of the gazebo.
A beautiful and stylish barbecue set can be bought in specialized stores.
Also in the recreation area it is necessary to place a dining table, chairs, and sofas. For convenience, a work desk and a cart are important, which makes it easier to deliver products to the right place.
We will indicate the type of fryer and materials
At the design stage, you also determine what type of roaster (frying device) you will use: a fire pit, a grill, or an oven. Choose materials: supports, floor finishing, coverings for the open area, canopy. Which ones are better to choose, we will consider below.
Deciding on the project
When choosing a barbecue area project, you need to decide only one nuance: decide on its type. This can already be used as a starting point when calculating the consumption of materials and assessing the scale of work. For open areas, it is enough to place the grill on the ground or a special support. You must first select an open area in the garden or lawn.
This type of barbecue area is considered the most laconic. It’s easy to combine a barbecue holiday with active games or childcare.
Closed barbecue areas will require more time and effort. Here you will have to lay a foundation, install supports, secure a canopy, and build at least one wall as protection from the wind. The work pays off, because now the company is not afraid of bad weather and nothing can spoil its plans for the weekend. As for the size of the site, they are chosen depending on the dimensions of the stove, the capabilities of the site and the number of people who will gather for gatherings.
For quiet family evenings, an area of 5-6 sq.m. is enough. For those who like to invite guests and celebrate every holiday with a noisy crowd, such a platform is, of course, not enough.
How to choose a hearth
The oven is the heart of the barbecue area, its most important element. There are many options: a stationary hearth for a cauldron, a mini-Russian oven with a fire chamber, a smokehouse, a Pompeian oven, even a portable grill on the lawn…. A few years ago, tandoors were popular, but now they are inferior to Russian ovens: the cooking principle is the same, but the Russian oven has much more functionality. Lyudmila Mogutova: – I like the fire chambers of the Russian stove. I can say from the experience of my clients: those who have a roasting chamber no longer fry shish kebab; almost all dishes are cooked in a Russian oven. They tell me: we use the grill area only sometimes, like a fireplace, and cook in the oven. You can make baked goods, steam them, and bake meat - many people love this taste, like in a tandoor. This is probably the best thing you can come up with.

When choosing a fireplace, many people follow the principle “the simpler the better,” and everyone else prefers an open fireplace with supports for skewers and a grate. By the way, one of the meanings of the word barbecue is a large frame with a grate for frying meat. It is this kind of fireplace that creates a special, romantic atmosphere, an integral part of which is the smell of smoke and wood in the fire, dinner with loved ones in the fresh air.
Foundation for barbecue area
The weight of an ordinary stove and a large stationary barbecue can reach a couple of hundred kilograms. Of course, such a structure will quickly sag in the open ground, and cracks will appear in the brick fireplace after wintering, so it requires a strong, reliable foundation. Professionals recommend using a combined option. A separate foundation consists of a concrete slab (monolith) for the hearth and a columnar or strip foundation for the walls. This decision is due to two reasons:
- Saving. A monolithic foundation for the entire site will be too expensive. Such expenses are simply impractical.
- Unequal loads during operation.
The dimensions of the concrete slab must be larger than the hearth itself. The monolith should protrude at least 5 cm beyond the edges of the stove.
Choosing a Dutch oven
Barbecues came to us from the Caucasus. The name literally translates as “box of coals,” which accurately reflects the purpose of the structure. A fire is lit inside the barbecue, and after the wood burns out, meat, vegetables or fish are cooked over the coals. Pieces of food are strung on special knitting needles - skewers. To prevent the dish from burning, they are rotated periodically.
To obtain an original aftertaste and greater juiciness, the meat is sprinkled with alcohol, lemon juice, and soy sauce.
Braziers are classified according to the mobility of their design:
- Collapsible. They are a metal box with legs. Its walls can be removed (attached to special grooves), folded into a case and taken with you outdoors.
- Portable. These barbecues cannot be disassembled, but they are light and compact, so the structure can be moved to any corner of the site.
- Stationary. A dimensional structure made of brick, stone, metal or combinations of these materials. It is equipped with a solid foundation, as it has a lot of weight.
Special mention should be made of electric grills. They are equipped with a special mechanism that automatically rotates the skewers, ensuring uniform frying of the product without human intervention. The grill is more like a compact oven or grill. Of course, meat and vegetables do not acquire that “smoky” taste in it. The design of a barbecue is somewhat different from a barbecue.
Inside the box there are two grates: on the bottom one there are coals, and on the top one they put meat and fish.
Barbecues are classified into the following types:
- Portable (folding). The roasting pan is equipped with a removable grill. When assembled, the device is placed in a special case. Convenient for outdoor picnics.
- Mobile. They are a cart on wheels that can be “rolled” around the site. The structure cannot be disassembled. There is a tray at the bottom on which you can place plates, pots or firewood, and a brazier is attached to the top on four supports.
- Boiler. Classic American version with a domed lid. It is convenient because the heat inside is retained longer, so in such roasters you can bake whole poultry or large pieces of meat that would not cook over open coals.
- Stationary. Made of stone or brick, equipped with a cooking area and a dining area.
There are also disposable roasting pans and electric barbecues. They are not suitable for a permanent resting place on the site.
For barbecue fans who only have barbecues, the problem is easily solved by purchasing a special grill or “tongs” - a device with handles and two sheets of mesh between which food is clamped.
Work area hearth
Where should you cook kebabs, fry fish or grill vegetables? To do this, you need to make a place for cooking. In this case, there are three options to consider:
- Brazier. This is a metal structure of a certain shape, which can be stationary or portable.
- B-B-Q. Unlike a barbecue, this design is more bulky and may have a lid and a pipe for removing smoke. Can be stationary or portable.
- Bake. This is a brick or stone structure. To build such a structure, you need to have knowledge and abilities.

Next to the grill, barbecue or oven, you should place a table on which you can thread meat on skewers or prepare salads. This will add comfort to cooking.
The simplest “U”-shaped sketch
How to build a brick grill in the country? To begin with, choose a sketch, decide what size it will be based on the building area and financial resources.
Such a brick grill at the dacha can be made with a roof and canopy to protect it from bad weather.
- The structure has the shape of the letter “P”. It consists of a brazier and a table, and is a brickwork on a foundation.
- Basic dimensions: 1*1.8*0.9 m (height, width, depth).
- But it is easily modified, sections are added to it, or larger sizes are taken during construction. But the principle of masonry remains the same.
- What kind of brick is this barbecue made of at the dacha? In a place where there will be an open fire, take fireproof SHAK-4.5. The rest is made of solid ceramic bricks or fireclay SHA-8. You will need to buy 202 pcs.
- A solution of cement and sand is made in proportions of 1:3 with the addition of 1 part of lime. Use up to the 5th row of masonry. A solution of clay and sand is needed where the brick will heat up.
- The proportions depend on the quality of the clay (lean, fatty), as a result, the solution is mixed until the consistency of sour cream.
Brick cutting and chopping
A grinder with a stone cutting disc is perfect for cutting brick. During operation, a lot of dust is generated, so it is recommended to protect your eyes and respiratory organs with goggles and a mask.
The process takes place in the following sequence:
- Marking bricks with a pencil, ruler or tape measure.
- Cutting (splitting) elements to the required sizes.
- Teska (grinding) of the resulting blanks.
To speed up the marking process, experts recommend making templates. This is especially effective in cases where it is necessary to cut parts of the same size in large quantities.
Material for templates - pieces of roofing felt, parchment, thick cardboard.
To make templates of non-standard shapes, you need to use ingenuity. For example, to get a longitudinal half of a brick, it is enough to bend the template of an ordinary half lengthwise. This will reduce the number of templates and speed up the cutting process.
Parts for which templates cannot be made (bevels, oven appliances) are marked during preliminary dry laying.
When cutting, you need to work at high speeds, otherwise even a new disk will quickly wear out.
It is not necessary to make a full cut, just a cut is enough and then carefully split. But this applies to cases of obtaining parts of simple shapes. For complex elements, it is better to cut the workpiece to the end.
Experts recommend using a new disk to first cut off complex parts, then simple ones, since standard parts can be cut off even with a worn disk.
It is worth saying that cut parts have a smooth surface, chipped parts have a rough surface, sometimes even with defects. You can smooth out the roughness:
- processing with a grinding disc;
- grinding the chopped parts against each other;
- with a pick.
It is better to place bricks with chipped edges against a thick seam.
Work order
This kind of masonry is called “on the bed”. Bricks laid transversely provide support for the brazier sheets and mesh. If you place it “on a spoon” (the narrow part of the brick), then the sheet of the roasting pan will be slightly higher. The area underneath can be used for firewood.
- The rows are laid with half a brick offset (in a bandage). The first six rows are the roasting pan and the table. From the 7th row comes the laying for the barbecue itself. Each row is measured with a level or a rope is pulled, and a plumb line (rope with a weight) is used to check the evenness of the vertical walls. Next, you can see how to cover a barbecue with bricks at the dacha and make a vertical protective wall.
- When pouring the working solution, the thickness of the seam should be no more than 5-8 mm.
- The finished grill takes 3-4 days to dry. Then you can slowly melt it. After 5-7 days, you can prepare the first portion of kebab.
Types of fuel for garden stoves
To light a fire in nature, coal, firewood, gas, and briquettes are used. Not all types give the same heat, and the smoldering time is also different. Fuel is selected based on the technical characteristics of the stove.
An environmentally friendly type of fuel that does not emit smoke when heated deserves special attention. These are stones of volcanic origin that are heated by an electric coil. As a result, the heat from the stones is no worse than from wooden firewood, and there is no smoke. This option is indispensable for a small summer cottage, where a residential building and neighbors are in “dangerous proximity.”
Regardless of what drawings, materials and interior arrangement are chosen, a gazebo with a barbecue will certainly become a favorite place in the country house. After all, it’s so nice to spend time with family and friends near the fireplace!
Arrangement: options
The barbecue and picnic area can be located directly on the grass, but then you will have to depend on the vagaries of the weather. The grass may be damp, or cold rain may prevent you from dining outside. To make your vacation comfortable, it is better to pave the recreation area. Paving is made from paving slabs, clinker bricks, natural stone, pebbles or other natural materials.
It must be taken into account that the paths and the site must be finished with the same material.
A hard coating will allow you not to be afraid of dampness; the barbecue and pieces of garden furniture will stand firmly on the surface. The coating must be non-slip to avoid injury after rain or frost. The finishing material chosen is frost-resistant and not susceptible to chipping during cleaning, if the recreation area is intended to be used in the winter.
At the dacha, it is worth using available materials to cover the site: tree cuts, mosaics made from fragments of ceramic tiles left after repairs.
The arrangement of the paving area is prepared as follows:
- Markings are made on the ground according to the chosen shape and size.
- Along the marking lines over the entire area, 20-30 cm of soil is removed, compacted and covered with a 5-10 cm layer of sand.
- Then follows a layer of crushed stone of 5-10 centimeters and again a layer of sand or sand with cement, on which stone or brick is already laid. All layers are regularly checked with a building level.
- Paving slabs or stones can be laid on concrete; instead of a top layer of sand, formwork is constructed, beacons are installed according to the level, beacons are placed and filled with a cement-sand mixture, wait until it dries completely for 10-14 days.
- After this, finishing material is laid on the concrete base using cement mortar, maintaining a slope to drain water.
Manufacturers offer a wide range of lumber and artificial analogues for garden parquet and decking boards. Wood flooring has a shorter service life, but many people like the warm texture of this material. In this option, the boards are laid on logs, which can be made of wood, metal or concrete.
The logs are supported on a strip foundation in the shape of the site or rest on a concrete base. All structural parts are treated with an antiseptic to prevent corrosion and rotting.
- To bring the structure under the roof, pillars are installed, which are made of timber, brick, and metal. Here you need to take into account the weight of the roof, whether it is a permanent roof made of metal tiles, asbestos-cement sheets or andulin, which will require reinforced supports. Budget summer gazebos have a light and practical covering made of film, fabric or polycarbonate.
- For brick pillars, a point foundation is prepared, on which the columns are erected to the required level. Metal pillars are reinforced with small pebbles in a well, which is filled with cement.
Rafters are attached to the pillars, which must be finished underneath, since structures of this kind rarely have a false ceiling. Structural beams are specially used to create a chalet style in the recreation area.
To equip a warm area, it can be covered with a stone or brick wall on one or two adjacent sides.
A separate strip foundation must be laid under the walls; care must be taken that the foundation of the barbecue does not come into contact with the rest of the concrete pouring, this will ensure the strength of the structure.
Capital stone structures for barbecue are not such a common occurrence in suburban areas; most are limited to a roof and side awnings made of fabric or film, which can be fixed to poles or opened depending on the weather. Glazed panoramic seating areas allow you to use the room in any weather thanks to sliding structures, light weight and good insulating qualities of double-glazed windows.
Glass in such systems successfully replaces polycarbonate in various colors. The main attention is paid to the thermal insulation of the roofing material from the chimney.
How to cover a barbecue or barbecue area in the open air?
For barbecue areas in the country, you need not only to create a reliable foundation, but also to choose a good covering material both for comfortable walking around the site and for the aesthetic component, so that everything looks even more comfortable and modern. The facing covering can be stone, clinker, tile, etc.
The most popular types of coverings for a recreation area with a barbecue or barbecue in the country are:
- tiled (like paving slabs);
- wooden (garden parquet, decking or decking);
Tile covering for streets
Street tiles or, as they are often called, paving slabs have a wide variety of shapes and color nuances, so they can be used for a large or small garden plot with any design. The material has high wear resistance, does not melt in the heat, does not crack from frost and does not allow water to pass through, while it dries quickly and almost does not change its appearance over time, and, what is extremely important, is in the budget segment.
Paving slabs in the barbecue area - a universal option for covering the area
Brief step-by-step instructions on how to lay paving slabs yourself:
- Preparatory: remove the turf layer, remove debris, protruding branches and large stones from the area, install pegs around the perimeter of the area and pull a rope or elastic band over them.
- Leveling: level and thoroughly compact the soil, create drainage (you can use crushed stone with sand or sand-cement mortar).
- Facing: start laying tiles along a stretched rope or elastic band, starting from the farthest row (protruding edges need to be trimmed in advance, but it is better to calculate everything in such a way as not to use a tile cutter at all), adjust the finished sheet to the level.
- Final: fill the seams with sand-cement mortar and fill them with water, after drying, rub with quartz sand.
Wooden covering
Various decking boards, special garden parquet or decking are also often used to improve recreation areas with barbecues, especially if it is located on a veranda, terrace or on an area prepared for this. Wooden surfaces for streets only at first glance seem short-lived. In fact, they tolerate frost and rain well.
Decking is made using a technology where moisture is completely removed from the wood and replaced with a protective impregnation, which gives the boards strong resistance to changing climatic conditions. It is also not at all afraid of any kind of mold and mildew, is easy to install and has good design qualities.
Decking on a barbecue area combined with a place to relax
Terrace boards have somewhat similar properties to decking, but are not of the tiled type and are more similar to parquet modules. Installation occurs in this way: logs are installed on a leveled surface, on top of which the boards themselves are screwed onto self-tapping screws, which are subsequently secured to each other using a joint-groove system.
Decking board on the patio with a roasting pan for cooking in the summer
Garden parquet is also ideal for a barbecue area in a country house, as it does not dry out due to drought and does not swell after rainfall. The boards are laid on a flat surface: either on compacted soil, or on one consisting of gravel, crushed stone, or even on poured concrete. Parquet modules are connected to each other using the locking method.
Garden parquet is well suited for a barbecue or barbecue area in the country
Zoning
The barbecue area is divided into two main areas - the cooking area and the dining area. The brazier should be installed no closer than 2 meters from the dining table; it is best to install the brazier in a corner or at the far wall of the area.
The dining area should not block the approach to the fire, so the table and seating are located in the front part of the gazebo.
It is convenient to place the barbecue area in the patio, which creates natural protection from the wind from the walls of the buildings. The table can be placed on the veranda or a canopy can be built with support on one of the walls of the house; the brazier can be left in the open air or placed at a distance under a canopy near the house.
A recreation area in an open-air summer cottage can be formed around a central barbecue. In this case, much attention is paid to the design of the barbecue, since tables with sofas are placed around the summer stove. It’s a good idea to plant a hedge along the perimeter of the recreation area, which will add comfort and protect from prying eyes.
A decorative fence or woodpile can serve as a barrier from the wind. A beautiful option is to place a recreation area on the shore of a natural or artificial reservoir.
Where to place - choose a place
The place for the barbecue area must meet a number of requirements:
- Fire safety. The source of an open fire cannot be located close to a residential building or outbuildings, so the barbecue area should be located at a distance from buildings. It is imperative to maintain a distance of at least 10 m from wooden buildings, and at least 5 m from brick ones.
- Wind protection. If the dacha plot has a pronounced relief, then it is better to choose a hollow for the barbecue area. It is not blown as much by the winds as the hills. If the area is flat, then the barbecue area must be fenced with a special fence. There is little pleasure in lighting a fire or dining at a table in a strong wind.
- Ease of use and functionality. The barbecue area should be located not very far from the house or summer kitchen so that you can always get to a source of water or kitchen utensils. At the same time, too close a location is also undesirable, since the smell of smoke can penetrate into a residential building through open windows. In front of the site, you need to equip wide garden paths and lighting, since most gatherings around the fire begin in the dark.
- Beautiful landscape. If the barbecue area is also equipped with a dining area, then the surrounding landscape should provide aesthetic pleasure. Therefore, it is better for her to find a cozy place on the border of the local area and a picturesque garden.
Furniture and lighting
Garden furniture will help make the area beautiful. You can make furniture with your own hands in a traditional rural style that will look harmonious in the natural landscape. A barbecue area on a patio in a modern high-tech or minimalist building will require furniture of the appropriate style, simple cubic shapes.
In open areas it is more convenient to use plastic furniture; such furniture has different designs and a wide price range, is resistant to atmospheric moisture, and is easy to keep clean or move to the right place.
Expensive options for forged furniture add solidity and combine beautifully with natural stonework.
Comfortable rest in the evening will require lighting above the dining table, brazier and around the perimeter of the area. Lighting devices are connected to the electrical network or run on solar panels. LED lamps and illumination of flower beds around the recreation area look very impressive.
LEDs allow you to create multi-colored light compositions in the garden landscape.
Dining area furniture
For an outdoor recreation area, you can use light-weight garden furniture. If it rains unexpectedly, then it will not be difficult to bring it into the barn or into the house.
If the recreation area with barbecue is located under the roof. Then you can choose solid wood furniture. It is installed in the place chosen for it. Nearby you can place a cocoon chair, hang a hammock, or put a sun lounger.
Design and decor
In addition to green spaces, flowers and small plants, garden figurines can be used to decorate the barbecue area.
If you place the barbecue area near a small pond, you will need connecting decorative elements to create a complete composition. These can be small fountains, waterfalls and other decor. Do not forget that plants that like high humidity can be planted near bodies of water.
- If the barbecue area is located next to the pool, then you need to take care not only of decor that matches the blue color, but also of the overall color scheme of the composition.
- An interestingly designed stove design can also decorate a recreation area. You should not load the area with unnecessary decorative elements; everything should be harmonious and beautiful.
- An important factor in the design of the grill area is the main material from which the composition is made.
- A brick gazebo will retain its original appearance for a long time; humidity, exposure to sunlight and temperature changes will not affect the construction in any way.
In the presented version, the cooking area is hidden under a canopy, and the wooden platform on which the table will be placed is open.
Enclosed gazebos will help extend the barbecue season. They are always protected from wind and rain. To continue your holiday in winter, you can insulate the building with special materials and install a heating system.
A rectangular gazebo with large windows that practically replace walls looks stylish. Windows can be decorated with translucent tulle.
A seating area made of wood, especially against the backdrop of green spaces, looks gorgeous. Natural materials go well with stone and metal decor. The only drawback: to maintain its original appearance, regular and high-quality care is required.
The design of the barbecue area should please the owners and guests. Safety, ease of use and functionality are also very important.
How to build a support structure and canopy?
Supports
The supporting structure is important not only for solid buildings, but also for aesthetics. With the help of a beautifully equipped barbecue area, you can give the site an attractive look, especially when there is no dynamic country house on it. Supports are usually constructed from stone, clinker and brick, if the site will be of a long-term nature; untreated wood and low-quality metal materials are considered simpler and more cost-effective options. One of the most beautiful supports with a canopy is a pergola.
The metal support structure together with the canopy looks more comfortable
Canopy
Sheds for the barbecue area vary in degree of rigidity: they can be soft (any flexible materials), applied to the frame by melting, and hard (such as slate, tiles, metal profiles, copper sheets, etc.), which are usually laid on a truss.
DIY hard canopy over the brazier
There are three types of soft coverings for creating a canopy:
- Bitumen.
- Polymer-bitumen.
- Polymer.
The latter are considered the most inexpensive, especially if you take a material such as polycarbonate. If you need something simpler and more budget-friendly, then you should use tarpaulin coverings or similar water-repellent fabrics.
