Any surfaces that are exposed to weather conditions, such as rain, wind, snow, require strengthening them with additional means of protection. A caring owner will definitely devote time and money to strengthening his home or other property. So that it can last as long as possible. One of these products is enamel XB 124. More details about this product will be discussed below.
Properties of enamel
Wooden and metal products that will be coated with a layer of XB-124 enamel are reliably protected from the influence of adverse damaging factors. The product is especially suitable for wood - in this case, no additional primer is required; it is enough to apply three layers of paint. This will create a protective film on the surface for up to 6 years or more (if we are talking about operation in a temperate climate).
In cold (arctic) climates, surfaces must be pre-primed using AK-070 primer, which contains aluminum particles. Three layers of enamel on top of such a primer allows the product to be used for up to 5 years. In tropical climates, preliminary priming with FL-03K is carried out in 2 layers, then four layers of enamel are performed. This will help the products last at least 3 years.
Positive properties of the paint that distinguish it from its analogues:
- high anti-corrosion qualities;
- preventing the spread of rust, if present, before applying enamel;
- ensuring a beautiful appearance;
- ability to withstand temperature fluctuations;
- resistance to fire, moisture, detergents, household chemicals, oils, gasoline;
- elasticity;
- durability.
Specifications
The components included in the composition create a durable coating in different climatic zones. After complete drying, the painted layer does not crack, swell, or smudge. The appearance is uniform.
Important! The paint is elastic, prevents corrosion of metal structures and the process of rotting of wooden surfaces, the paint and varnish material is durable. Withstands temperature changes.
The recommended layer thickness according to GOST is 25-30 microns. The service life of the coating is up to 6 years. Considered frost resistant. The surface can be painted at a temperature of -10 degrees C.
How to apply it correctly?
Permissible relative humidity is 80%. If the mixture is applied to a surface initially coated with a primer, it retains its qualities for 5-6 years.
It is advisable to degrease before applying enamel of this brand with white spirit.
To prime the initial surface, soils of the following categories are used:
- XC-010;
- XC-059;
- XC-068.
Painting is done with rollers and brushes; if you are not limited to manual methods of work, you can use pneumatic and vacuum sprayers. Regardless of the method of use, paint and varnish materials are thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous solution is obtained. Solvents are used to bring the mixture to a working viscosity; they can also be used to clean contaminated tools and other surfaces.
Before starting work with perchlorovinyl enamel, you need to find out what the surface temperature is. Normally, it should be at least 3 degrees higher than the dew point.
The manufacturer's instructions indicate that the composition must be applied in at least a couple of layers, the thickness of each of them being from 60 to 100 microns. Enamel should be stored in a hermetically sealed container, away from open fire and heat. Do not expose to direct sunlight or wet the paintwork.
Long-term storage can lead to:
- increasing the viscosity of the composition;
- the appearance of sediment;
- breakdown of complex dyes.
When this period passes, the manufacturer is automatically released from all liability for the consequences of its use and further storage. Standard packaging is 25 and 50 kg, which allows you to use one package to cover an entire apartment or large wall.
It is recommended to apply the enamel in three or four layers. If a varnish of the same brand is used, it should be applied in a maximum of two layers. The strength and beauty of the external coating (subject to compliance with technological requirements) are guaranteed.

Consumption
Observing all conditions for applying the product, the rate of its consumption per 1 m2 will be 125 - 150 grams. This figure is indicated for one layer of paint with air humidity up to 80% during application. The required layer thickness is 60 – 100 microns.
Drying time
At a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, the paint will dry in an hour (to degree 3), complete drying (degree 5) will occur in a day.
Features of applying enamel
To dilute the enamel, you can use the solvents stated in the instructions - P4, P4A. Before painting, you should do a comprehensive cleaning of the surface - remove dirt, dust, remove rust, degrease with white spirit. It is permissible to use sandblasting units or cord brushes. Next, the surfaces must be primed 1–2 times, depending on the degree of wear (primers XC-068, 010, 059 are used).
Painting is done by brush, spray, or roller. First, the enamel is thoroughly mixed. The ingress of moisture must be excluded; work is carried out only in a dry room or above the dew point. Layers are applied every hour, usually 2 – 3 layers are enough.
Safety requirements
The paint is highly flammable and contains toxic compounds (lead and others), so it is important to be careful when working. The room must have ventilation, the worker must wear a suit and a respirator. To avoid fire, you should have sand and fire extinguishers nearby
In everyday life, you should not neglect such rules - then harm to the body and dangerous consequences will not happen
To avoid fire, you should have sand and fire extinguishers nearby. In everyday life, you should not neglect such rules - then there will be no harm to the body and no dangerous consequences.
Enamel consumption
In order for the consumption to be optimal, as well as the subsequent service life of the surfaces, the recommended temperature and humidity during application should be observed (we are talking about indicators near the working surface). Consumption depends on the correct viscosity (don’t forget about the solvent), the number of layers (3 – 4), and the type of application. If you follow all the rules, the consumption per layer will be 120 - 170 grams per square meter when using a roller or brush. The consumption rate per 1 m2 when using a pneumatic spray gun is 110 – 130 g.
The cost of the product is low - only 100 rubles per liter. Since the consumption is low, creating a high-quality coating will be quite economical. XB-124 enamel is used everywhere in everyday life and in industry.
Applications and recommended paint schemes
Waterproof alkyd enamel PF 115 can be applied with any type of painting tool - brush, roller, spray
When calculating the amount of paint required, you must definitely take into account the characteristics of the surface to be painted and the color of the paint.
Concrete, brick, unsanded wood absorb paint quite intensively and its consumption will be greater than when covering planed wood, metal or previously painted surfaces.
Selecting the amount of paint by color
Depending on the color, the consumption of standard paint is within fairly large limits. At room temperature, to paint 1 m2 of the same type of unprimed surface you will need:
0.1-0.14 kg - white paint
0.05 – 0.06 kg - black paint
0.07 – 0.1 kg - blue paints
0.07 – 0.08 kg - brown paints
0.1 – 0.2 kg - red paint
The calculation is given for single-layer painting. When determining the real one, the number of layers is multiplied by the given figures and again multiplied by a factor of 0.9 - each subsequent layer uses less paint than the first. The second coat can be applied no earlier than 24 hours after completion of the previous coating.
Only ideally dry surfaces are painted, heated to a temperature of at least +5 C. It is optimal to carry out painting work using PF 115 in dry, windless weather at an external air temperature in the range of +15 ... +22 C. In this case, the paint will maintain optimal viscosity, the solvent will not evaporate too quickly from the surface, and the risk of drips will be minimized.
The method of application also affects paint consumption. If you use a roller, it will be larger than a brush, and a sprayer may lead to some overuse of the composition. Also, the average consumption directly depends on the quality of preparation of the surface for painting and compliance with standard paint application schemes.
Painting schemes with PF-115 enamel
1. Metal painting.
Metals of all types are painted with enamel only after priming with compositions GF 0119, VL 05, GF 021 or their analogues, compatible with pentaphthalic paints. In the index of primers, the first number must be 0. If there are no primers, and the surfaces are not very critical, then for the primer you can use PF 115 enamel itself, diluted with white spirit to 50% of the original density.
Surfaces bearing traces of corrosion are treated with rust inhibitors (converters) of the Unicor type before priming. These compounds are applied after mechanical cleaning of the metal from rust and fats. They transform corrosion products into strong and dense compounds, no different in hardness from solid metal. Metals are painted with PF 115 enamel in two layers.
2. Painting the wood.
On wood, enamel is applied without primer in 2–3 layers. If necessary (recommended), treat the wood surface with fire retardants, antiseptics and fungicides compatible with pentaphthalic paints. Manufacturers of paints and varnishes offer a wide selection of such compositions, but when using them, you must carefully study the instructions - some of them are intended for acrylic paints, some act as an independent coating.
3. Plaster, concrete, brick.
These materials are painted with enamel in 2–3 layers without primer. But it is advisable to use anti-mold preparations - enamel forms a dense surface with low vapor permeability and residual moisture can create favorable conditions for the development of mold and mildew in the material if pest spores remain there.
When painting any of the materials, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and dried. Residual humidity should not exceed 10 – 15%. Fresh concrete walls and foundations, as well as brick structures, can be painted no earlier than six months after completion of installation. The interval between applying the next coat of paint is at least 24 hours.
In most cases, paint is sold in factory containers completely ready for use. But after opening the can, the solvent begins to evaporate rapidly and the density of the enamel increases. To bring the paint to a working consistency, white spirit or solvent, as well as their mixtures, are used. Gasoline and kerosene are not recommended - although they dissolve the enamel, they significantly change its shade and shine.
When preparing paint for use, it must be thoroughly mixed, adding solvent in small portions. During the process, the paint also needs to be stirred periodically.
Rules of application
Optimal conditions for working with XB-124 enamel:
- ambient and surface temperature – from +10 to +40 degrees;
- humidity – 80% and below.
The coating is applied in three layers in moderate and cold climates. In tropical latitudes, four layers are required.
Preparation
Wooden surfaces are cleaned of dust and sanded. How to prepare a metal surface:
- clean from rust and scale using emery until shiny and evenly rough;
- degrease with white spirit;
- coat with primer.

Before priming, it is advisable to check the degree of grease-freeness of the surface using filter paper - a dirty surface will leave a mark on it. To remove rust, depending on the degree and extent of corrosion, use a wire brush, a grinding disc, or a sandblaster.
For priming on metal, compositions VL, AK, and FL are used. The enamel is combined with the GF-021 coating. Universal glyphthalic primer reliably connects to the surface, suitable for external and internal work in temperate climates. In cold climates, AK-70 and VL-02 soils are used. The surface is ready for painting after they are completely dry.
The compatibility of the primer and enamel is checked before painting the object, especially if compositions from different manufacturers are used, in order to avoid damage to the coating and losses.
Application
After opening the jar, stir the enamel until smooth and leave for 10 minutes to remove bubbles from the surface. Subsequent layers are applied after the previous ones have completely dried.
To paint iron gratings, shelves, frames, small metal and wooden surfaces, brushes or rollers are used. It is recommended to spray enamel on a large area of reinforced concrete using a pneumatic or airless installation. Spray parameters from a pneumatic device:
- distance to the surface - 20-30 centimeters;
- pressure - 1.5-2.5 kilograms per square centimeter;
- nozzle diameter is 1.8-2.5 millimeters.
The parameters are adjusted depending on the type of installation and the thickness of the mixture. Welding seams, edges, internal corners and hard-to-reach places are additionally painted with a brush after spraying.
Drying
The first layer dries within two hours. At low temperatures, the interval between applications is 30 minutes. To make the coating dry faster, add a soap solution to the composition before painting.
Storage conditions
Enamel is flammable. When storing indoors, all conditions must be ensured. One of the first and most important conditions is the absence of exposure to direct sunlight. The paint can must be tightly closed.
There should not be a source of fire or heat nearby. The storage location should be dark and cool. The air temperature in the room should not be lower than – 30 degrees, but not higher than +30 degrees. According to the manufacturer, the shelf life from the date of manufacture is one year. Incompletely used paint can be stored for no more than six months. Long-term storage increases the viscosity of the enamel.

A very strong and durable semi-matte coating is provided by CV enamel, which basically contains perchlorovinyl and glyphthalic resins. To paint the plastered concrete or brick surface of a building facade, it is recommended to use XB-161 enamel. This paint is highly resistant to atmospheric precipitation.
Enamel XB-0278 is used for painting prepared metal and wooden surfaces for exterior use. It is applied to the surface using airless or pneumatic spraying.
For the same purposes, as well as for painting concrete and reinforced concrete building structures, XB-16 enamel is used. In addition, this enamel can be used to decorate fabrics. This type of enamel is applied by spraying.
Due to its unique durability, XB-785 enamel is used in complex coatings to protect equipment, metal products and reinforced concrete building structures from the aggressive effects of concentrated inorganic acids, alkalis, salts and gases, as well as from prolonged contact with water at temperatures not exceeding 60-65 oS. It can also be applied by spraying. In addition, polyurethane enamel is used for the same purposes. Metal enamel is applied to galvanized iron, aluminum and ferrous metals.
NTs-132 enamel dries very quickly and perfectly protects against the damaging effects of dampness and direct sunlight. The basis of enamel NTs-132 is nitrocellulose. It is used for painting wooden and pre-primed metal products, as well as for any outdoor work. NC enamel is applied to the surface using spraying technology. Before starting work, it is recommended to thoroughly clean the surface from dirt, dust, grease, and technical lubricants. Clean metal products from rust and be sure to prime them.
Materials for interior finishing
It must be said that this division into materials for exterior and interior decoration is quite arbitrary, since almost all enamels for exterior use can also be used indoors. But it is better and cheaper to use special enamels for this purpose. Alkyd enamels and some others are perfect for this. We will talk about them.
EP enamel is prepared on the basis of epoxy resin. Coating with EP-140 enamel is used for painting pre-primed surfaces made of steel, magnesium, copper and its alloys, as well as titanium and aluminum amalgams. All paint components are mixed immediately before use. It should be remembered that epoxy enamel requires special storage conditions - it should be stored in an airtight container, avoiding direct sunlight.
GF-92 enamel based on glypthal varnish is used for windings of electrical machines. There are two types of GF enamel. To process the stationary parts of the windings, GF 92 HS enamel is used - cold-drying enamel, and hot-drying enamel GF 92 GS is used for both stationary and rotating parts of the winding.
Enameled wire (enamel wire) is used directly in the coils of electrical appliances. It is coated with an electrical insulating varnish based on modified polyester resins, due to which the wire has high thermal properties and greater flexibility.
Anti-rust enamel will help paint a metal surface covered with corrosion products. For these purposes, a unique product has been created - enamel primer. This is a triple action product – enamel primer for rust. It is designed to protect metal units exposed to aggressive gases and vapors of the industrial atmosphere.
Heat-resistant enamel is used to paint surfaces used at high temperatures. Such enamels are used for painting pipelines, boilers, heating systems, railway tanks, etc. Heat-resistant enamels form coatings of increased hardness and durability.
ХВ-238
After complete drying, apply a second layer of paint and varnish enamel. 180 minutes after applying the first layer.
Does not belong to the universal class. Paint and varnish material with special properties. The XB-238 paint is based on perchlorovinyl resin. This resin is considered low-viscosity. Compatible with XB-050 primer. Available in a wide range of colors. The finished mixture is presented in the form of a suspension with various fillers.
Purpose
Enamel has a very narrow purpose. Used for painting metal cutting products. Apply to the prepared surface. It should be primed. The enamel is applied using the pneumonic method. The primer dries within 60 minutes. Only then a layer of paint is applied.
Diluent
From production, the suspension is ready for use. But during storage, due to the components included in the composition, the enamel thickens. To bring it to the required concentration, solvents are used. Not every solvent is suitable for this purpose. This enamel can be diluted with solvents R-4 or R-4A.
Drying time
Drying time to degree 3 is 90 minutes (1.5 hours). After drying it forms a uniform coating. The shade can be different semi-matte or semi-gloss.
Safety regulations
When working with this paint and varnish composition, it is important to follow the following rules to maintain health:
- If painting is done indoors, it is imperative to organize high-quality ventilation. The enamel contains harmful, toxic substances that, indoors, will have a detrimental effect on the respiratory organs and human well-being;

Enamel composition
The paint described contains special chemical components that provide all the basic qualities of the product. According to the technical data sheet of the enamel (the product is made on the basis of the state standard - GOST 10144-89), the base is polyvinyl chloride chlorinated resin.
To impart the required viscosity, organic solvents were added to the XB-124 enamel; to ensure other properties, the following were introduced:
- fillers;
- plasticizers;
- alkyd resins.
Pigments are added to paint to provide the desired color. The result is a ready-made suspension that has quality certificates, certificates and meets international standards. The shelf life of the paint is 6 years.
Let's look at the basic properties of paint
One square meter of facade takes approximately two hundred and seventy grams, with a paint ball thickness of 25 microns.
The thickness of the product for facades is thirty to forty-five conventional units, which is why it can be safely applied with a spray bottle, without diluting with solvents.
The amount of non-volatile additives in the entire mass for the facade is up to forty-seven percent, and the elasticity is no more than five millimeters.
Below is a list of advantages:
- Coloring can be done from -20 to +40 degrees.
- They belong to the budget category.
- The manufacturer adds a special substance to perchlorovinyl paint, with the help of which the color will remain on the surface for a long time and lastingly (more than six years). So, the coating is not afraid of the sun's rays and the tone will not fade.
- There is no need to apply a primer before carrying out work.
- It has the ability to penetrate deeply into the pores of the base. Thus, it is strengthened and protected from the negative effects of external factors.
- It is produced in a form ready for use.
- If you want, you can create about twenty-five tones.
- The paint is “friendly” with almost any surface material. Thus, by applying it to a metal structure, it is provided with protection against corrosive processes.
- Possesses frost resistance.
- It has vapor permeability, so the surface “breathes”.
- Even if there is shrinkage or vibration, due to elasticity the integrity of the layer will be maintained.
Really, where would there be no downsides? They are:
- During the drying process, due to the evaporation of toxic substances, an unpleasant odor appears on the facade.
- The present components are very toxic.
- Facade paint is fire hazardous, so it is necessary to have a fire extinguisher in your household.
- You cannot add liquid to them.
- Although there is elasticity, it is very weak, therefore, to apply it, you must ensure that the base is even (otherwise the coating will crack).
- Do not dye in hot weather or during precipitation.
APPLICATION
Surface preparation To prepare the surface for painting, preliminary priming with materials such as AK, FL, VL is necessary. Methods of application Pneumatic or airless spraying, brush, roller Conditions for application Before use, make sure that the enamel is well mixed and homogeneous throughout the entire volume of the container. If necessary, the enamel can be diluted before use to a working viscosity of 14-15 with solvent R-4. The prepared enamel is applied to the primed surface of the metal to be protected with a brush, roller, pneumatic or airless spray at an ambient temperature of -10°C to +30°C and a relative air humidity of no higher than 80%. To prevent moisture condensation, the surface temperature must be at least 3ºС above the dew point
After the enamel layer has dried (2 hours at 20°C), subsequent layers are applied. Precautions The material is flammable! Do not work near open fire sources. Keep out of the reach of children
When painting work and after finishing it, you need to thoroughly ventilate the room and use rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Application
You can apply paint to a metal surface with a brush or roller, but it is preferable to work with a pneumatic device. Airless spraying is better suited for large areas to be treated. Electrical equipment provides a better design. To apply paint in this way, it must be diluted as much as possible with RFG or R-4A solvent.
The preparatory stage includes several main points:
- It is necessary to thoroughly clean the metal from dirt, dust, oils, scale and rust. The indicator is the characteristic shine of the surface, the evenly distributed roughness of the material; in places with scale, the color of the base may be darker.
- After cleaning, the coating should be completely dust-free and degreased. To do this, wipe it with a rag soaked in white spirit.
- It is necessary to check for grease stains by wiping with special filter paper based on cellulose, fibrous substances and asbestos (there should be no traces of oil on it).
- It is acceptable to use abrasive and sandblasting for cleaning. This way you can remove even the smallest particles of rust from metal.
- If there are individual contaminants, they are removed and degreased locally.
- Then you should apply a primer with “VL”, “AK” or “FL” compositions. The surface must dry completely.
Immediately before painting, the solution is stirred until a homogeneous mass is formed and the first layer is applied to a dry primer. Primary drying lasts no more than 3 hours, after which the next layer can be applied.
A three-layer coating is mainly made for temperate climate zones, four layers are intended for the tropical zone. If it is necessary to protect the metal in cold conditions, you will need to apply three layers of paint using AK-70 or VL-02 primer. The time interval between application of layers is at least 30 minutes.
