Door to the pantry: design features and material of manufacture + step-by-step algorithm

Today I decided to talk about how to make a door to a pantry. It turns out that there are many materials that are suitable for making such a structure. I was able to easily implement the whole process with my own hands, and below I will talk about the sequence of my actions at the installation stage.

Choosing a compartment door to the pantry

Before choosing sliding sashes, you should familiarize yourself with the design features, weigh the advantages and disadvantages, determine the material of manufacture and installation method.

Pros and cons of the design

Wardrobe doors have the following positive qualities:

The main disadvantages of such structures are poor heat and sound insulation and expensive fittings.

Peculiarities

Features include:

The material for making sliding partitions can be different:

Wooden doors are often preferred when the pantry is located in the hallway. If it is located in a room, sometimes the owners install glass and mirror panels. This solution will visually enlarge the room. Products made from other materials are less often chosen.

Sliding structures are equipped with a roller mechanism that allows the canvas to move smoothly along the wall. Installing these types of doors yourself can be difficult because the tracks must be mounted precisely. Even a slight misalignment will lead to difficulties in the movement of the sash.

A special feature of this design is the ability to install several canvases. More than one is made in large openings. Rarely put 2 small canvases to maintain the unity of the design.

For sliding structures it is necessary to purchase special locks and handles. Typically, such products are supplied with a set of fittings, but in the event of a breakdown, replacing the element can be problematic.

Floor arrangement

The floor in such a closet is wooden, made of floor slats. The quality leaves much to be desired. It would be good to improve it so that the cleaning problem is solved more rationally. Throw a piece of linoleum inside, or upholster it with fiberboard and paint it. In our case, the floor simply became a masterpiece. A suitable part of the laminated chipboard could be adapted as a floor covering.

DIY compartment door installation

To install compartment doors you will need the following tools:

First prepare the surface so that it is level. Then the top and bottom rails are installed. The upper guide is fixed to a wooden block, which is attached to the wall using dowels. The required number of fasteners must be at least 6.

To install the bottom rail, a groove is made in the floor according to the dimensions of the guide. In this case, one level must be maintained to avoid distortions. To do this, use a drill with bits in the form of crowns. You can also use feather drills. A stopper is installed in the extreme position.

Then, using self-tapping screws, install the roller guide mechanism to the canvas. The installation of the door begins by inserting the roller at the top, and then inserting the bottom one into the rail. The seal is attached to the end of the leaf to soften shocks when closing.

At the last stage, adjustment is made. The lower mechanisms have special screws that allow you to raise or lower the blade.

Preparing walls and openings

To begin with, I made sure that all my surfaces were level. I double-checked everything horizontally, vertically and diagonally. At this stage, I note that I prepared everything in advance, since for some reason one slope was blocked. In such conditions, the swing door would not close and would quickly become unusable.

If you also notice similar defects, then perform plastering and further putty. Just periodically check the surface for level so as not to overdo it with the application of layers. This way, as soon as the problematic surface reaches the ideal, you can leave it until completely dry.

Installing a compartment door in a closet

In almost every apartment (especially in Khrushchev-era buildings near the entrance to the kitchen) there are separate meters for “useful” things. This hidden place from prying eyes arouses the curiosity of many guests. How can you make the doors to the pantry practical and inconspicuous? Did they blend in with the overall interior and not arouse unnecessary curiosity among guests? The compartment doors to the storage room should blend with the interior of the room or corridor. Installing doors does not cause difficulties and the use of physical force.

Decoration and design of a storage room with a compartment door

Dimensions

The dimensions of the door must be determined in advance. You will need to measure the width of the canvas and its height. To do this, measure the opening and take into account the slope if there are distortions. A typical interior door has a standard width of 0.9 m. If it is a door at the entrance to a house, this value should be increased to 1.2 m. The height of the leaf is usually the same and is 2.1 m.

The dimensions of the door cannot be determined if repairs are underway. You should lay the flooring, only then start measuring dimensions. The box must be 2 cm larger than the opening to provide technological voids.

Choosing a pantry door

In Khrushchev-era apartments and other standard layouts, storage rooms are already provided. But, if there has been a redevelopment or the room does not have space for a storage room (small apartment), they are installed by hand. Then the pantry can serve for storing food, storing winter and unnecessary things. Such storage rooms may have shelves and niches. They provide basic lighting or backlighting. Such storage rooms require an individual door.

Sliding doors in a storage room with shelves

There are many doors, they are all different in design and material. How to choose a door to the pantry? There are doors:

Sliding doors are installed to save space.
On the free meters you can install furniture, a fireplace, a decorative element, and so on. Installing sliding doors will require tools and care. In addition to the types of doors, they can be different in the material they are made of - wood, glass, plastic, metal, and have multiple color options: matte, bright glossy, different types of wood or inlaid with multi-colored stones. When choosing a door, you should also pay attention to the appearance.
If the room is bright, then the tone of the sliding door should be light. But, if the interior of the apartment has a combination of light and dark tones, then the door should be selected to match the overall decor. Source

Interesting examples of the design and interior of a pantry in a Khrushchev building of different sizes

First of all, everyone must determine for themselves what the pantry is for. This can be storage of a variety of things, from clothes to canned goods and tools.

If the kitchen is large, you can build walls in one of the corners.

The storage room can also be converted into an office or a kind of garage can be made here. You can go more aesthetically and create a built-in wardrobe in a Khrushchev-era building in the pantry.

You can arrange shelving along one wall of the pantry, which differs little in design from a regular cabinet.

In a one-room apartment

A distinctive feature of a one-room apartment is the small total space of the home, as a result of which a person living here is always forced to carve out free space and, before buying a certain large-sized item, first decide where to put it.

Modern panel houses allow you to allocate more space for a storage room.

Important! In order to somehow neutralize this negative situation, you need to properly organize the pantry space.

If two or more people live in a one-room Khrushchev house, then you can set up a small office in the closet where you can install a computer. This way, working with office equipment will not interfere with other residents.

With the right approach, it can turn out to be quite cozy and stylish.

In a two-room apartment

Here the area is larger - therefore the number of residents already starts from 3 people. And as a rule, this is a family with one or two children. In this case, the question very often arises - where to store children's skateboards, rollers, scooters and bicycles. The corridor in the Khrushchev building is small, so it is not possible to leave all these vehicles here. And here a storage room will come to the rescue, from which you can organize a small garage for children’s vehicles.

It is more practical to place children's vehicle models on the wall, while for adults it is more practical to place them on the floor.

In a three-room apartment

In a three-room apartment there is no longer such an acute shortage of space, which is why the pantry in this case can be converted to suit a wide variety of needs:

  • closet;
  • storage of things, conservation, vacuum cleaners and other cleaning products; a small office with office equipment;
  • a workshop for those who love to make things - this way you won’t have to think about the fact that repairs and other types of work will disturb someone;
  • garage for light vehicles.

You should make sure there are a large number of shelves in the room.

Sliding doors: their obvious advantages and some disadvantages

Sliding doors come in all sorts of models. The choice of a specific option entirely depends on the interior fantasies of the household and on the features of the layout of the premises.

pros

Here is a list of the positive qualities of sliding door structures.

If you use the explanations and recommendations from this article, you will be able to install the sliding door correctly, that is, reliably and without much difficulty. Subsequently, it will be easy to operate.

Minuses

You need to understand that any design cannot be considered ideal. And this one has characteristic disadvantages. After all, the user will have to comply with certain operating conditions of such a design. Here are the main recommendations that you should use.

Disadvantages of compartment doors

Firstly, the door leaf moves using a guide rail and a roller system. This means that the rails and rollers must always be in good condition. Otherwise, they will break, the door will jam, and it will be left in one position.

Secondly, if the rooms are separated by such a standard design, sound insulation will remain at a low level. After all, a small gap remains between the door frame and the leaf.

Thirdly, isolating a kitchen area with a sliding door is not always advisable. Due to the inability of the linen to cover tightly, odors will escape from the kitchen.

Fourthly, to carry out error-free installation you will have to very carefully measure all structural elements. Each part of the sliding door will need to be installed horizontally and vertically absolutely perfectly. Even a tiny error can lead to jamming.

Fifthly, replacing an old door with a sliding structure will require considerable investment. And high prices cannot be called an advantage.

Installation Features

To install the canvas, you need to fix the lower and upper guide strips. If you do not want to screw the bottom strip with screws, so as not to spoil the floor covering, you can use double-sided tape. When creating such a door, it is most convenient to use chipboard, wood or glass.

After the doors are assembled, they are installed. First, the blade is inserted into the grooves with the upper wheels. After this, the wheels are clamped inward from below, and the door fits into the guide. Using a hex wrench or screwdriver, you can adjust the position of the door by turning the screw. This will allow you to set the height of the canvas. Once the door is in place, it should open easily, latch well, and close quietly.

What types of sliding doors are there?

These designs can be divided into several types. Each type has design and external features unique to products of this type. Also, the working mechanisms of different types of sliding doors are installed differently.

What unites all varieties of such structures is that they work on the same principle. Their movement occurs along a horizontal line. They move along the wall and doorway. In this case, the designated systems are divided:

Interior sliding doors

All these structures are also divided into multi-leaf and single-leaf. Moreover, a multi-leaf system can include from 2 to 4 structurally combined door leaves.

Functional features when repairing and planning the design of a storage room in Khrushchev

The secondary market is replete with Khrushchev buildings. This is perhaps one of the most uncomfortable apartment layouts. But still, most of them have storage rooms. And it is worth noting that the storage area could reach 2 square meters. m, thereby allowing you to rationally arrange the area even for a small dressing room.

Typically, walk-in wardrobes have built-in wardrobes. This is impossible to do in mini storage rooms. They are replaced with simple racks and shelves.

Note! The small area of this type of apartment requires rational storage space. Therefore, it is worth organizing shelves right up to the ceiling. And even equip the inner door surface with hooks and awnings. You can hang outerwear, bags or household items on them.

Method of manufacturing a sliding door leaf

Hanging door designs can be of different types:

Solid fabric is usually made:

Door leaf materials

Plywood is also used. And metal and plastic are now often used as frames.

The door leaf is selected according to parameters depending on the size of the doorway.

Let's say the blank for the door is a chipboard panel of sufficient size. Then it can be made easier by cutting out windows (one, several). Their edges are processed with a milling cutter, after which glass, thin plywood, and other lightweight material are installed.

Door frame assembly

Lightweight (glazed) chipboard panels should be made in this way.

Act one. The panel is marked. The distance from the edges should be no less than 15 cm. Then the frame of the door leaf, the basis of which is chipboard, changes its original size.

Act two. An electric jigsaw is used. With this tool, the internal sections of the panel that were originally marked are cut out. For this purpose, a hole is made in any corner of the marking with a drill into which the jigsaw blade is inserted. Next, cuts are made according to the markings.

Act three. The inner edges formed after cutting the opening are processed very carefully. To refine the canvas the following can be used:

Act four. To refine the end surfaces (chipboard material), decorative thermal tape is used. And to glue it, use a regular iron.

Sliding door design

Act five. When the cutouts (windows) are filled with plywood inserts, these elements are pre-matched in color using:

New details must match the general background.

Act six. Door leaves are also made from timber (section sizes vary). However, the maximum parameters for the thickness of the frame frame cannot exceed 3 cm.

And the timber that will be used for the internal lintels of the frame usually has a thickness equal to the dimensions of the frame or less.

It is more difficult to make a frame door from timber, because you have to mutually fasten all the elements without the slightest error.

Finishing

The final finishing is also done by hand and does not take much time. There are several ways to decorate a canvas:

  • use of paint or varnish;
  • pasting with film or wallpaper;
  • insertion of stained glass or mosaics;
  • insertion of mirrors or tinted glass;
  • decoupage techniques;
  • fabric upholstery;
  • aging of wood.

The simplest and most affordable finishing method is painting with stain and varnish. Self-adhesive wallpaper film is used for bathrooms to protect the canvas from water. The need for stylistic refinement in design requires studying the techniques of aging the material so that the door becomes an unusual interior detail.

Features of installation of the suspension system

As soon as the door leaf is prepared, you can immediately attach the fittings to it:

The handles on sliding doors have to be recessed into the door leaf, otherwise they will interfere with the movement of the door leaf.

Step one. The future position of the handle is marked. Markings are made on the canvas on both sides. The location of the handle is from the vertical edge of the panel at a distance of 3.5-5 cm.

Step two. The line has already been marked. Next, taking into account the mark, mark the height and width of the nest. The top marking point is taken into account. A distance is measured from it, which is equal to half the width of the intended hole. The designated point becomes the center of the circle. To drill a circle, use a core drill of the required diameter.

Step three. From the bottom side, the same actions are performed to mark the nest. The result is a pair of blind recesses. Their depth will correspond to the recess of the handle into the canvas.

Hole for installing door handle

Step four. The round recesses are already marked. Next, to remove the wood, use a chisel with a hammer or a router.

Step five. Handles are fixed in the cutouts. For this use:

Step six. You should pay attention to the upper end side of the canvas. The roller mechanisms are secured there using self-tapping screws. You'll probably have to choose shaped grooves for them. To work, you need to use a chisel (milling cutter).

Step seven. The rollers are attached, retreating a sufficient distance from the edges of the canvas, which is chipboard or solid board.

Installation of shelves

Shelves in the pantry come in handy. You can cut them from laminated chipboard. Smooth material, easy to clean later. In our case, the shelves are cut from plastic window sills.

To fasten the shelves we use a mounting bracket.

We calculate the number of shelves and install fasteners on the walls of the pantry.

Installing compartment doors yourself: detailed instructions from choosing the material to checking the functionality of the system.

It is not easy to install compartment doors yourself. However, if you thoroughly understand the features of this design and the operation of all mechanisms, then there will not be any particular difficulties during its installation. The main thing is to carry out all operations in strict sequence, as indicated in this recommendation.

Various door designs of this type have been developed. Therefore, the owner of a residential property initially needs to understand what advantages and disadvantages they have.

Glass doors

Some people do not want to install doors entirely made of wood, so for them the best option would be a door made of triplex glass. This glass is different from the same window glass; it has either a glossy or matte finish. And it is much stronger than pure glass. It consists of three layers, which consist of glass and film. It turns out that two glasses are glued with film. This gives additional reliability to these doors.

According to their properties, such doors can be either hinged, sliding or folding. And their installation is no different from other doors.

Features of sliding door structures: all the pros and cons

If such a door is installed in a house or apartment, especially a small one, the advantages and disadvantages of the design will immediately reveal themselves.

Sliding doors have many advantages

Advantages

Flaws

The shortcomings are not so significant, but they should also be taken into account.

Firstly, there are gaps. They remain in the doorway (between the frame and the leaf) when the door is closed. This means that the following cannot be provided:

And if such a door separates the kitchen, cooking odors will penetrate into other rooms.

Secondly, when you choose a design that consists of 2 sashes, its installation becomes more complicated. After all, both halves must fit one another perfectly.

Disadvantages of compartment doors

Thirdly, you will need to check every detail extremely carefully. Otherwise, after installation, distortion will appear. Then the sash will jam, and problems will arise when opening/closing the door.

Design ideas

Before starting work, you should consider different door design options. It can be: folding, sliding, paneled, hinged. Folding looks like an accordion or book and allows you to save free space. The canvas will consist of several sections, and the opening will be carried out by hinges.

The door should have two sections if we are talking about a book, and several panels when you decide to make an accordion. These can be vertical slats, the width of which is 10 cm. When opened, this design will fold, it can even be used in the bedroom or bathroom, where free space is limited.

The most popular solution is paneled doors, which look quite elegant. They can be made from plywood and complemented with glass inserts. Sliding doors can be single or double leaf. This is an excellent alternative to the swing option. The canvases will move to the sides, and the guide rollers can be placed at the top or bottom, which will reduce the load on the walls. If the apartment has thin walls or plasterboard partitions, sliding doors will do just fine.

Preparation for installation work

You need to prepare all the necessary tools and materials in advance, otherwise the process of installing compartment doors will take a long time.

The first thing you need to do is prepare your tools

Tools needed

A grinder (eccentric or vibration) will also come in handy.

Procurement of spare parts and materials

Here are the parts you will need to assemble the compartment door.

Sliding door fittings

First, the owner decides on the type of design, and taking it into account, the door leaf is selected. There is a table that determines the dimensions of the canvas (typical) relative to the opening:

A hanging structure is selected. The height of the canvas should be greater than the doorway.

A cassette compartment door is selected. Then the height of the canvas should be less than the size of the opening.

A door on 2 rails is selected. You should choose a canvas larger than the opening if this is an open option. And if the design is made in a cassette version (in other words, it goes into the wall), then it should be the same amount smaller than the opening.

The length of the rails should be equal to twice the width of the canvas. Let's say two canvases are installed. This means that a guide equal to their four sizes is selected.

Ideas on how to arrange a narrow pantry and what is important to consider when doing so

Typically, a narrow storage room in a Khrushchev-era building is an elongated one, about 2-2.4 m long and 80 to 120 cm wide. The initial dimensions allow the use of only an L-shaped arrangement of modules of various contents. The depth of the storage shelves is calculated according to the width of the aisle. It must be at least 50cm. In total, about 40-55cm remains on the shelves, which is quite enough for storage inside open cabinets.

It's a good idea to use the side wall (if you have one) to expand the closet space by installing beveled or radius doors.

But, as a rule, they are limited to the initially allocated area, separating it from the space of the room or corridor with sliding doors or a swing door.

Examples of drawings of the internal filling of a narrow pantry with a width of 100-120cm

A great idea for arranging a narrow pantry is to turn one of the sections “facing” the door, as in the previous photo.

This solution will allow you to easily use some things that you need constantly without having to “dive” into the closet for them every time.

Advice. Match the width of the aisle to the depth of the cabinets! For example, drawers will most likely be inconvenient to use, because they will have to be pulled out from the side, and the width of the passage will not allow them to be fully used.

So it’s better to place the drawers in the sections opposite the compartment doors.

On the edge it is better to provide options for narrowed sections for storage that would not interfere with the entrance to the dressing room itself. For example, with open hooks or a niche for storing an ironing board, vacuum cleaner, etc. without lower shelves.

Depending on the requirements for the dressing room, different contents can be provided. For example, a narrow closet in the hallway is more needed for storing outerwear with an increased number of rods for hangers. And in the bedroom and nursery, shelves and drawers predominate.

The kitchen will also have its own individual storage space. It is characterized by a large number of narrow and frequent shelves with additional partitions designed for storing cans, preserves, baskets and boxes with vegetables and preparations.

What to do if you need a narrow dressing room from a pantry only 80 cm wide

With such a limited space, it is important to take into account the anthropological characteristics of a person and ergonomic requirements. It is best to make furniture for such a narrow closet that is composite:

  • The bottom row of cabinets is 400mm deep . What is below hip level can be wider - this trick will allow you to turn relatively comfortably inside a narrow closet while searching for the necessary things or cleaning. The height of the lower modules can be approximately 500mm.
  • The middle row of cabinets is 300mm deep. Shelves can be combined with open clothes hangers - the absence of hard, deep sides is key. The narrowed depth ends at a person’s height - this is about 1700-1800mm from the floor.
  • Mezzanine row 400mm deep. It makes no sense to make it deeper, since you are unlikely to be able to “squeeze” something larger into the remaining span. That is, if the narrow dressing room from the pantry is 80 cm, we leave 40 cm for the mezzanine shelves and keep 40 cm free for access.

Mesh wall storage systems also make filling a narrow closet a lot easier, since they do not have protruding sides. And also, during operation, you can rearrange the shelves to a more convenient and comfortable level, supplement them with new hangings and accessories.

How to make your own door leaf

Chipboard panels of the required size are taken. You can use one panel, or two. For example, if the doorway has a frame edging of 76.5x197.5 cm, then you need to take a canvas measuring 80x200 cm.

The door leaf must fit the size of the opening

To lighten the weight of the canvas, 1-2 squares or a rectangle are cut out of it. Glass is subsequently installed in these openings. You can create a kind of panel by inserting thin plywood.

First stage. The canvas is marked. 15 cm away from the edges, no less.

Second phase. The middle part of the canvas is removed using an electric jigsaw. For this purpose, a hole is drilled in the corner (any) of the marked figure so that a jigsaw file can be inserted.

Third stage. Along the perimeter of the door, as well as inside the created frame, it is advisable to refine the ends of the chipboard. To do this, use self-adhesive tape. Fix it by heating it with an iron.

Door leaf materials

You can choose another option: the door is made of timber, processed in advance. Fastening is done with jumpers consisting of bars of narrower sizes or of durable slats. And between them plywood or glass is inserted.

It should be understood. It may seem that a door made of timber is easier to make. This is a misconception. After all, you will need to have material that has undergone impeccable processing.

In addition, the assembly of such a structure must be carried out with special care. If at least one of the conditions is not met, the door frame will initially or will soon become deformed.

Sliding door design

Tree

Wood is a reliable and strong building material. Most door models are now made from it. Wood is considered environmentally friendly and has a long service life. The material retains heat well and lends itself to any type of processing: dyeing, painting, creating an individual design. I would not paint the door leaf, but would immediately burn it onto clean and well-sanded wood. Of course, this modification is not to everyone’s liking, and is only suitable for a few types of interior: rustic, country, classic, Provence. Can be used for a loft if you make a themed design.

Source ydacha.org

I recommend! If the door leaf is made of wood, then the frame in which it is installed must be made of identical raw materials. It is even advisable to choose one tree species. This will increase the guarantee that both structures will last the same amount of time.

Additional components

In order to make a door to a pantry, the most important elements are profile guides, which include the following elements:

  • track;
  • rollers;
  • stopper;
  • limiters.

Basic components of a sliding door.

The complete set includes a door leaf, and for the spacer you will need a wooden block with a cross-section of 40x50 mm.

Installation must begin by attaching the beam, which is installed horizontally, maintaining a distance of 6 cm in relation to the edge of the doorway. This design will serve as a spacer.

Next, guide tracks are attached to this beam using self-tapping screws.

The stops are attached to the floor surface horizontally under the guide element, and the stoppers are installed to the wall at the top. A strip is attached to the top end of the sliding door.

To ensure free movement of door panels along the guides, rollers are installed in the track and the panels are carefully hung by inserting the strip into the grooves of the rollers. The guide elements on the end sides, as well as above the door, are closed using platbands. To make a door to the pantry, you need to cut a door blank from a single sheet of chipboard (the thickness of which is 16 mm). After sawing, the edges are glued with veneer tape.

After installation, it is necessary to adjust the door movement and install fittings, and if necessary, install a lock.

In a small room where the pantry is located, you can install mirrored sliding doors, which will not only look original, but also visually increase the space.

Door with overlay panels

This master class differs from the previous one in that here we will not only attach the strips, but also fill the inside of the doors with overlay panels.

Necessary materials:

  • Plastic panels (we make these here, but wooden panels can also be used)
  • Roulette
  • Pencil
  • Building level
  • Construction adhesive
  • Latex paint
  • Screwdriver
  • Masking tape
  • Hand saw
  • Screws
  • Safety glasses and earmuffs
  • Putty for plastic
  • Putty knife
  • Sander (or sandpaper)

Step-by-step instruction:

Step 1: Correct the door defects. If the door is very old and has some defects that cannot be hidden by painting (for example, the top coating has chipped off in places, or there are deep scratches), then initially you need to remove them and make the surface smooth.

  • To do this, apply wood putty and let it dry,
  • then smooth the surface with a grinding machine or sandpaper .

Step 2: Outlining the location of the planks

We will do the marking here the same as in the previous case, that is, we will retreat 5" (about 13 cm) everywhere except the bottom of the door, where we leave 6" (about 15 cm).

TIP: If you don't have a long ruler, you can draw lines using a building level.

Step 3: Attach the panel

Apply construction adhesive to the back of the plastic panels.

Place the panels on the door and check that they are positioned correctly using a level. The sides of the panels should be clearly parallel to the edges of the door.

Press down on the panel until it presses firmly against the door and sticks securely. Secure this entire structure around the perimeter with small screws using a screwdriver.

Step 4: Attach the planks

Again, you can either cut the planks to size at a shop, or do it yourself using a saw and miter box. The strips should surround the panels around the perimeter, fitting tightly to them.

  1. Attach one strip first, the top one. To do this, use thin screws and a screwdriver .

  2. Now we move on to attaching the side strips. It is important here that the planks meet tightly and evenly in the corners; to do this, before attaching them with screws, glue them to the door with masking tape and make sure that everything is correct.
  3. After this, secure with screws and remove the masking tape.
  4. Do the same with all the remaining planks.

Note: the planks can initially be glued with construction adhesive and then secured with screws.

This is what should happen at this stage:

Step 5: Paint the door. Now all that remains is to paint the door and leave it until completely dry.

Now compare the door before and after repair:

The applied relief makes the door more stylish and affects the appearance of the entire room as a whole:

Don't be afraid to change up old items and give them a different look. Give them the opportunity to serve you again, but in a new guise!

Any, even the most expensive and high-quality interior doors can become unusable. The door leaf may fade, crack, or simply become boring. In any case, now it won’t be too difficult to replace the old door with a completely new one. But this may not always be truly appropriate or necessary. There are cases when replacing them will not work or will be problematic, for example, the door has non-standard dimensions or you do not have the necessary funds to purchase a new door. One way or another, there is always an alternative option, because there are many ways to update any door with your own hands.

There are many restoration methods, but regardless of the choice, you first need to prepare the tools that will be needed during the work process.

You must have with you:

  • Construction hair dryer;
  • Plane;
  • Spatulas;
  • Grinder machine;
  • Sandpaper.

Types of storage systems

Even the most practical configuration can be ruined if you choose a wardrobe storage system that is not quite suitable for it. Which one to choose?

Hull

Made according to an individual project in full accordance with your dimensions. It is also quite easy to assemble it yourself by ordering a cut (as we showed in the example with a homemade screen for a battery) - this will significantly save money. A cabinet storage system is best suited for use if there is enough space, as it consists of fairly massive compartments with a large number of drawers and shelves.

Mesh

A much more compact and generally lightweight and versatile design that fits perfectly into very modest dressing rooms. Unlike other types of storage systems, it is made of metal. The base is fixed to the wall, and all elements included in the system are fixed to it with hooks and brackets.

Look how well this system saves space. In the photo the room is 1.35 by 1.55 meters with a depth of 40 to 60 cm in the center.

The big advantage of this particular option is the possibility of modification. At any time, you can rehang the shelves with baskets, add more elements and expand the capacity, or, conversely, remove unnecessary ones.

Frame

A system similar to a mesh system: here, metal racks are also first fixed. They are connected to each other by horizontal rods, and all the necessary racks are mounted on them. The space is not cluttered with unnecessary shelves, and if in practice it turns out that many sectors are not used, then they can be dismantled in no time.

The photo shows an option for a cozy frame dressing room instead of a storage room in a room 1.40 by 1.15 meters.
