It is impossible to imagine playing with dolls without a certain set of furniture. And, of course, the bed is an indispensable attribute of a doll’s life. What to do if you can’t buy toy furniture? Your own imagination and skillful hands come to the rescue. This is exactly what is needed in order to cope with the task of making a bed for a doll out of a box.
Making a crib for a doll will not take you much time. But what you will definitely have to tinker with is choosing the appropriate model. The main selection criterion in this case will be the material. The most popular option is cardboard. Every home has a couple of unnecessary shoeboxes or a couple of sheets of packaging cardboard (like the kind that household appliances are packaged in). Having decided on the material, you need to choose a model. It could be:
- classic single bed;
- ottoman bed;
- sofa;
- bunk bed.
But, before you start making furniture, take measurements from the doll for which the bed is intended. To the obtained values, add 3-4 cm to the length and width.
Cardboard version
Having completed the drawing of the crib for the doll, we proceed to the next step of action. If the choice is on paper, cardboard or other types of pulp industry, then we will need the following tools:
- scissors;
- stapler, staples;
- a simple pencil;
- markers;
- glue;
- scotch;
- matter, yarn;
- paints;
- brushes
Cardboard is very common in everyday life and therefore the most preferable; it is also safe and easy to use. Classes with him are available even to children, but always under supervision. A cardboard bed is made as follows.
We transfer the parts of the bed to be made to the specified dimensions from a paper sheet onto cardboard and create templates using these sketches. We perform this action twice for the headboards; for the base, it is desirable to have at least three repeating parts.
We glue all the stock blanks together, having previously secured four longitudinal wires between them with tape for greater strength. We extend its ends beyond the perimeter by about 10 cm. We place the glued canvas under the press.
After all the glued parts have completely dried, we string both backs on opposite sides onto the ends of the wire placed in the base. We twist the ends of the wire together and carefully press them, even pressing them into the body of the backrests.

Then we glue the duplicates of the blanks made earlier, thus hiding the visible elements of the twisted wires. We cover the bed assembled in this way with bright material, for example, colored sheets or pieces of fabric, and that’s it - the crib for dolls is ready.
Making a tiny doll ottoman
For small dolls, you can make an ottoman bed out of paper. But even in such models, the bed must be made of cardboard.
Materials:
- 4 sheets of A4;
- PVA glue or “Moment”;
- stationery scissors;
- ruler;
- a simple pencil;
- a piece of cardboard;
- a piece of fabric and padding polyester for sitting.
Instructions:
- On paper we draw 2 rectangles of the required size for the bed. Let's cut them out.
- We bend the short edges 0.5 cm down.
- Draw the same rectangle on cardboard and cut it out.
- We cover the cardboard part with paper blanks.
- We cut the A4 sheet horizontally into 4 parts.
- We twist the rectangles into tight tubes - these are the supports of the crib.
- Glue the supports to the stock.
- We cut out 2 rectangles from the fabric to the size of the bed, and sew them together.
- We put the padding polyester in the case and carefully sew it up.
- We put the mattress on the crib - the craft is ready.
Features and benefits of cardboard
Despite the fact that cardboard is not the most durable and reliable material, compared to wood or metal, it has a number of advantages. The first of these is light weight. This option allows you to easily move cardboard products from place to place.
A cardboard bed will be very light.
The second advantage is low cost. Cardboard can be purchased or even found for free. Many stores provide their customers with the opportunity to pick up boxes in which goods were previously stored.
Furniture made of cardboard is quite rare in mass production,
Cardboard is an environmentally friendly material, it does not harm the environment and does not cause allergic reactions. This material can be processed an infinite number of times, returning to its original state.
Furniture made from corrugated cardboard is popular.
For furniture you will need corrugated cardboard. It consists of three layers - flat top and bottom and one wavy in the middle. This structure makes the sheets stronger and more rigid, and also increases their resistance to shock and stress.
You can make furniture for a child from cardboard.
Cardboard, like any other material, differs by brand. They vary depending on the number of layers, and, consequently, the strength of the product itself. This makes the sheets universal, and allows you to choose the material for the manufacture of almost any type of furniture.
Cardboard will allow you to cut out any bed.
What you need to create a cardboard clamshell
To create a folding bed, you will need sheets of 7mm corrugated cardboard, which is commonly used for packaging goods, and woven tape or braid.
The advantages of using corrugated cardboard are lightness and low cost. This type usually consists of three layers. Its structure makes the material durable and quite rigid, making it possible to withstand heavy loads.
What materials to make the bed from?
Here, boundless horizons open up for the flight of fantasy. You can make a bed from anything you can find in the house. From standard products made of cardboard or wood to the most seemingly unexpected materials, for example, toothpicks, egg cartons, matchboxes, etc.
- boxes;
- paper;
- newspapers;
- cardboard;
- plywood;
- Styrofoam;
- ice cream sticks;
- sponges for washing dishes and much more.
Products made from rigid wire look interesting: they look like real forged models. Even unnecessary wallpaper and remaining ceiling tiles are suitable for making a small bed - the choice of material is not limited to anything other than your own imagination.
Second life of a cardboard box
This option is perfect for those parents who do not have the opportunity to devote a lot of time to creating a sleeping place, but circumstances require an urgent solution. We take an available box, preferably a shoe box or packaging from the doll itself.
Having discussed the appearance with the child, we begin making a sleeping alcove. The removed cover can be used instead of bed legs as a rectangular base. It is enough just to glue it under the bottom of the box and give the glue time to dry.
Then we cut the rectangle of the box itself at the corners from top to bottom by two-thirds. One side of the box, which will become the head of the bed, can be left unchanged in height. We will reduce the side walls by cutting off one third of the side.
The rear wall is reduced by half the height or similar to the sides, that is, according to the planned project. The next stage of work is pasting with colored paper or painting the entire surface of the product. Alternatively, you can cover it with beautiful flaps or self-adhesive film.
As a feather bed and pillows, pieces of foam rubber adjusted to size, inserted into the mattress pad and pillowcases, respectively, look good. You will have to sew them yourself by hand or on a sewing machine. If you don’t have the time or desire to sew, just cover it with fabric, securing it with thread at the bottom.
That's basically it, a crib made from a box for dolls with your own hands. Now it can be used in children's games.
Temporary corrugated furniture: nightstand
For the bedside table we will need:
- corrugated cardboard box (at least one for LCD monitor)
- stationery knife (scissors ruin cardboard)
- ruler
- pencil
- scotch
From the very beginning, you should estimate the amount of cardboard available.
If we are making a bedside table for shoes, then we definitely need to measure the shoes (length, width and height).
Then, taking into account the data obtained, you can begin to draw up drawings. The bedside table will consist of three load-bearing sheets of corrugated cardboard, three strips holding them together (two on top and one on the bottom) and a lid on which the shoes will stand. After drawing up the drawings, you need to apply markings to the cardboard and start cutting.
To prevent the main sheets from moving to the side under load, they are fastened at the bottom and top with transverse strips. The stripes themselves should not be too narrow or wide. Five centimeters is enough.
Important: if the strips are five centimeters wide, then three centimeters of the cutout should be on large sheets, and the remaining two should be on strips. For a large sheet, one centimeter of cutout is not so important, but for a fastening strip it is very noticeable
All this can affect the strength of the structure.
Note: when it comes to the last part (the cap), for ease of bending, you need to make cuts on the inside. The dangling edges of the “cap” are glued together with tape.
Our first bedside table had a lot of unnecessary details. Instead of a cap there was just a leaf. The entire top was wrapped in a paper bag from the supermarket. But all this does not prevent him from serving his mistress faithfully for months now.
Making a pattern
Before you start assembling, you need to draw a pattern. To do this, you need to decide what size the folding bed will be. The optimal height is 25 cm, length is 2 meters, and width is 1 meter.
Using simple mathematical formulas, you need to calculate how much material you need to take. If the distance between the folds (zigzags) is 20 cm, then for a two-meter folding bed you will need a piece 5 meters long and 1 meter wide, respectively. The second piece should be 2 meters by 1 meter in size.
Procurement of materials and hardware
Calculation of materials must be done depending on the size of the mattress. For double beds, mattresses are sold with a width of 140–200 cm and a length of 190–210 cm. We will give an approximate list of materials for a bed 140×200 cm, this is the most common size.
Table. Materials for making a bed
Name | Description and quantity |
Lumber | Boards 200×20×3 cm – 2 pcs. for making bed sides. The same boards, only 140 cm long, are needed for the headboard and footboard, 3 of them are required. In addition, you will need 2.7 m of 50x50 mm timber and six meters of 50x30 mm slats. Boards 50×10 mm 15 pcs are placed under the mattress. 138 cm long. It is recommended to increase this amount by approximately 5% due to the fact that the boards may have critical damage that must be cut out during cutting. If possible, it is better to purchase lumber passed through a four-sided surface planer with polished surfaces. They will cost a little more, but they will save you from many problems. You won’t have to create dust and noise in the house, or be afraid of defects and inaccuracies. In addition, for high-quality wood preparation you need to have complex and expensive woodworking machines; they cost much more than a wooden bed. Buying such equipment is beneficial only for professional carpenters. |
Fasteners | If previously all the wooden parts of the bed were assembled on tongues or in a tongue/groove connection, now modern technology is used. It greatly simplifies and speeds up the bed assembly process, and the quality is in no way inferior to traditional technologies. To make a bed, corners 70×60 mm – 4 pcs., 35×30 mm – 8 pcs. are required. and 20×15 mm – 15 pcs. The large ones are used to secure the side boards to the headboard and footboard, the medium ones hold the bars for the cross boards under the mattress, and the small ones are needed to secure the legs to the sidewalls. All fasteners are installed in invisible places and do not spoil the appearance of the bed. In large corners, two holes must be drilled along the bend line; self-tapping screws are screwed into them to secure the legs. |
Hardware | The bed parts are fixed with black wood screws 3×30 mm (110 pcs.), yellow 4.5×40 (10 pcs.) and dowels Ø8 mm, 10 mm long. |
paints and varnishes | The bed needs to be varnished at least twice, buy the appropriate amount of materials. If desired, the surfaces can be impregnated with stain before varnishing - it emphasizes the beautiful structure of the wood. The varnish must be furniture varnish for interior work. |
This is not a final set of components for all cases; the same bed model can be assembled in different ways; accordingly, a different list of additional elements will be required. We specifically chose a manufacturing option that does not require a workshop or a long list of special equipment and tools.
Manufacturing technology
This section will describe three options for making beds for dolls. The options made from cardboard and boxes are simple; they are made together with the child. A popsicle stick bed requires more time, perseverance and precision, but the appearance of the finished product will be beautiful and colorful.
From cardboard
The easiest way to make a doll bed from cardboard is a detachable one. You can involve a child in making such furniture, since the work is very simple and does not take much time. Another advantage of making such furniture is that if there is no necessary space for storing doll furniture, it can be disassembled. When folded, several sheets of cardboard take up little space.
To understand how to make a bed for a doll out of cardboard, you should understand what materials are needed to make this furniture:
- cardboard;
- decorative materials to choose from.
What tools are needed to make this furniture:
- scissors;
- stationery knife;
- a simple pencil;
- a sheet of white A4 paper for making a pattern - several pieces.
How to make a doll bed:
- The bed model described below has dimensions of 13*20 cm, and is more suitable for a baby doll than for a Barbie doll. But the sizes can be varied according to your wishes. The side walls each consist of two parts. This provides additional reliability for fastening parts;
- In total, seven parts will be required: headboard, footboard, 2 side parts on 2 sides, bed base. You need to make patterns on a white A4 sheet. Using a pencil and a ruler, draw a base of 13x20 cm. The dimensions of the footboard are 13x4.5 centimeters, the headboard - 13x7 cm. These parts are also cut out of paper. It is necessary to draw two side parts measuring 6x8 cm and 2 parts measuring 6x6 cm. If desired, the dimensions of the side sides can be made different;
- Each part is cut out of paper, applied to a sheet of cardboard, outlined with a simple pencil and cut out. After this, a cut for fastening is made on each part. 4 cuts are made on the base of the bed. All of them will be carried out along the long side, so the cuts are made from the side of the head and foot. On the side where you plan to install the headboard, you need to make an incision at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the base. The depth of the cut should be 5.5 cm. Exactly the same cut is made on the other side. Exactly the same cuts should be made at the foot of the bed, but 3 cm deep. The base of the bed is ready;
- on the part that is attached to the side of the doll’s legs, it is also necessary to make two cuts on the side, the length of which is 13 cm. The cuts are made at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the cardboard blank. The depth of the cut is 1.5 cm. Exactly the same cuts are made on the headboard;
- Next, the side parts are processed. The large side should be cut in two places. On the side measuring 8 cm, at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the six-centimeter side, it is necessary to make cuts 1.5 cm deep. At the other end of this part, it is necessary to divide the six-centimeter side into two parts - 3 cm each. It is necessary to make a 3.5 cm cut along the division line. The same should be done on the second part of the same dimensions;
- the smaller side, 6x6 cm, is cut approximately the same way. One cut is made in the center of one of the sides, but with a shallower depth - 2 cm. On the adjacent side, located at an angle of 90°, it is necessary to make a cut 1 cm from the edge with a depth of 1.5 cm. The second side is also cut;
- For a beautiful and neat look of the bed, the protruding edges are trimmed with scissors. All parts are connected along the line of cuts. All together they will hold each other. All sides are first attached to the base of the bed: both large and small. Then the headboard and footboard are placed into the deep cuts. No bending is carried out. After this, the bed is decorated using any methods.
By teaching your child to fold and unfold such a bed on his own, you can create an additional element for him to play with. Having made a mattress from foam rubber and bed linen from fabric, the child will learn to fold and make the bed himself.

From the box
When making furniture for dolls from a box, they use an old shoe box in which they are not stored. It is desirable that the box is in good condition, but if this is not the case, then its appearance is corrected by pasting it with colored paper, whatman paper, or white paper, which is then painted by hand.
What materials are needed to make a bed for dolls with your own hands:
- cardboard box;
- glue;
- White paper;
- colored paper.
What tools are needed:
- pencil;
- ruler;
- scissors;
- stationery knife;
- measuring tape;
- the doll itself.
Work order:
- The approximate height of the doll and the space it occupies when lying down are measured. Taking these dimensions into account, the size of the base is selected. Since the doll bed is very small, it is difficult to change the dimensions, so they are determined in advance;
- adding a few centimeters in length and width, you get the size of the bed base. Using a ruler and pencil, you need to outline the sides of this size on the cardboard box. Then you need to add a few centimeters along the length of this part on both sides. They are designed so that when the cardboard is folded along these lines, the legs are formed on which the bed will stand. This entire side with two fold lines must be cut out of cardboard using scissors and a knife. The cardboard is folded along the fold lines designated in advance;
- Now side parts, a headboard, and a small wall near the doll’s legs are made for the bed. The height of the cardboard piece that is glued to the headboard should be twice as large as the bed leg formed by folding the base;
- the part that will be on the bed near the doll’s feet should be 1 cm higher in height than the bed leg formed by the fold line. The length of the side parts should coincide with the base of the bed. Their height can be different; it can either cover only the space under the bed, or form low sides. The height of the side walls is selected depending on personal preference;
- All these parts are attached to each other using ordinary PVA glue. After gluing, it is advisable to leave the cardboard blank for at least one day so that it hardens and strengthens properly;
- then you need to use white paper to paste over all the parts of the bed. This will strengthen the workpiece and make it neat and beautiful, smoothing out all the lines of cuts and folds. White paper is used for pasting. It is torn into small pieces by hand, and then glued to the surface of the bed on all sides so that there are no gaps left. Paste the cardboard in two layers. After this, it should dry completely;
- A bed made in this way for a Barbie doll is decorated with your own hands using colored paper. Using parts of different sizes and colors, they create furniture with a unique color scheme.

From ice cream sticks
Popsicle sticks are used to create the most luxurious furniture for dolls. To make the bed strong, it is advisable to use a glue gun. To make the simplest bed you will need only 18 sticks.
Before use, wash the sticks with running tap water and a detergent that will remove stickiness. The sticks are thoroughly dried on paper towels and wiped dry before starting work. For better adhesion of parts with glue, the sticks are degreased using alcohol, vodka, acetone for nails or solvent.
Stages of making a bed:
- one stick is cut in half into 2 parts;
- stack 2 times 5 sticks in a row. They form a small wall, similar to a fence;
- across these 5 sticks, glue half of the cut long sticks, slightly below the middle of the height;
- do the same with the second batch of 5 sticks;
- Now these two parts are connected using two more sticks. Two sticks are glued on both sides to the halves of the cut sticks. Thus, the frame of the future bed is obtained without a base, but with a ready-made headboard and footboard. During gluing, it is important to place the parts evenly;
- The 5 remaining sticks are placed and glued to the base of the bed. After the glue has dried, the bed is decorated with decor and bed linen is laid.

Cardboard bed
The importance of a bed cannot be denied, because this piece of furniture is inextricably linked with healthy sleep, which is vital for a person. Try sleeping on a dented mesh frame or a bed that creaks every time you move.
Along with standard models of beds and folding sofas, there are many alternative options. In terms of performance properties, a cardboard bed is in no way inferior to its wooden counterparts, but has excellent advantages - mobility, lightness, the ability to disassemble it to the size of a small box, environmental safety, 100% recyclability, and low cost. Although the last statement is not always true, since some designer options for cardboard beds will cost twice as much as buying a bed in Kyiv at https://imperia.matrasiv.com/krovati/. Another important advantage of a cardboard bed is the ability to make it yourself. Alas, the most interesting models are for sale, which means there are no publicly available diagrams and assembly models. But some designs are clear and easy to reproduce on your own. As a rule, cardboard beds are assembled without the help of glue thanks to slits and recesses, like a construction set or a puzzle.
Bed made of cardboard "accordion".
Another version of the “accordion” design was proposed by the German studio Room in a box. The studio's designers specialize in creating folding cardboard furniture, which is reflected in the name - Room in a Box. The bed is a complicated version of the “accordion”, where the folding folds are located not horizontally, as in the previous Itbed version, but vertically. In this case, there is no need to fix the folds. The Room in a box cardboard bed is almost universal in size. The height of the standard model is 40 cm, and the maximum dimensions when unfolded are 200 cm in length by 140 cm in width. But the user can easily change the width to 90, 100 or 120 cm. Accordingly, the length of the bed can be changed. The bed uses high-density corrugated cardboard, so the bed is very durable and can support up to 1000 kg. True, the weight of the product itself reaches 40 kg! Manufacturers declare that their bed is not only an alternative to standard wooden models, but can also serve as a mobile folding bed for trips to nature and forays into the nearest city park.
Beds for dolls: we make toys with our own hands
Every girl's dream is furniture for her favorite doll. But what if your financial situation does not allow you to fork out for such expensive toys? Should you leave the cozy dollhouse in your childhood dreams or arm yourself with improvised materials and do everything yourself? In this case, it would be useful to describe the process of creating a crib for dolls with your own hands. So, having used your imagination, you need to urgently move on to action!
Cardboard doll bed
What can be useful when making a crib for dolls with your own hands? The most common and affordable material is cardboard. It will make a nice set that will decorate a doll's bedroom. You will also need glue, scissors, napkins or newspapers and waterproof paints. First, measure the height of the doll for which this piece of furniture is intended. In accordance with this, a rectangle is cut out, which will serve as a sleeping place. To make a crib for dolls made of cardboard durable, the parts need to be made of 3-4 layers. For the legs, cardboard blocks are formed, which can easily be simply glued together from thin strips or folded from a rectangular piece, respectively, folding it into a block and gluing the open edge. The legs can only be under the bottom of the bed, or they can protrude high above the sleeping place; during the decorating process, beads of the appropriate diameter are glued to them. On one side, a part is attached that will serve as the head of the crib. For do-it-yourself dolls, on such a piece of furniture you can make a back in the shape of a heart, crown, circle or square. With proper decoration, even the simplest headboard will look chic.
When the bed frame is ready, it needs to be strengthened using the papier-mâché technique. To do this, you will need newspaper, as well as PVA glue diluted with water. You can use napkins or toilet paper rather than newspaper; this will make the coloring process easier later. So, small pieces of the selected material are applied to the frame pre-coated with glue and cover the entire surface with them, generously lubricating everything with glue. You need to carefully fix all the bends and joints of the parts so that the product becomes solid.
Decorating a cardboard bed
When the bed has dried thoroughly, you can begin painting and decorating. At this stage, all elements that should be the same color as the base are fixed with hot glue - these are beads, chains or pieces of guipure. They are laid out in a beautiful pattern on the headboard to create an interesting texture. Next comes the turn of painting. The easiest way is to use a spray can, but any waterproof paint will do. The work should again be left for some time to dry. If the headboard is planned to be made soft, it is decorated after this stage. Sintepon or foam rubber is covered with fabric, decorative seams are laid along it, glued to the headboard, and decorative braid or pre-prepared and painted cardboard blocks are attached around the perimeter of the soft insert.
Using this technique you can make a wide variety of doll beds. Photos of finished products will greatly help with choosing a design and color scheme. And sometimes it’s best to trust your imagination.
Doll bed made of plywood
A crib for a doll made of plywood will be more durable and easier to make. The only difficulty is cutting the parts. From this material you can make a bed that can be easily disassembled. To do this, you will need special templates for cutting out parts, which are simple geometric shapes with slots in certain places for assembly. The child can take this crib with him to play outdoors, and it will not take up much space in his backpack.
How to decorate a plywood bed?
To make the toy look attractive, it can be painted in rainbow shades. All girls love the color pink, which will ideally match with white pearl beads, from which they lay out flowers and fix them with hot glue on the parts of the bed. Glued pieces of lace and decoupage-style designs will look good.
Wooden bed
For those who are not looking for easy ways and are at least a little familiar with carpentry, a crib for a doll made of wood would be an ideal option. By the way, such a product will be the most durable. And even if the child wants to sit on such a crib, nothing will happen to it, which cannot be said about the previous options. The calculation of measurements here is also based on the height of the doll for which the product is intended. To complete the simplest option, you will need the following parts: the bottom of the bed, 4 legs, a headboard and (optional) sides around the perimeter of the bed so that you can insert a mattress. All elements are assembled by gluing.
Decorating a wooden bed
If in the first two options painting was ideal, then there is an alternative - the toy can be opened with varnish. If you want to decorate it, furniture nails with interesting caps are perfect, which are driven into the frame either in a special sequence or along the contour of a pattern in the form of hearts or flowers. Wood is an excellent material for making a canopy bed; it will not wrinkle like cardboard and will be much stronger than plywood. To do this, take slats and build a frame in the form of the edges of a quadrangle, onto which the canopy fabric of the doll crib is subsequently attached. Photos of such toys will help you decide on both the finish and the appearance of the structure itself. You can see some pictures above.
Making cribs for dolls with your own hands is not particularly difficult, the main thing is desire and imagination. And in any case, the result will please the child, even if, in the eyes of an adult, something does not turn out quite neatly and beautifully.

How to make a wardrobe bed
Here you will find a detailed guide on how to make a bed wardrobe with your own hands. The project doesn't require an expensive kit; here's a way to do it without one. Here's a short description of the process. After you assemble the frame, attach it to the wall with screws. Join pieces of 1×12 boards together into a rectangle so that they frame the mattress. L-shaped brackets work well here.
The next step is installing the base of the mattress frame where the bed will fold outward. Here we used 2x4 boards. For the mattress frame, two sheets of plywood, total size 157 x 208 cm. A standard double bed measures 150 x 200 cm, so leave 5 cm on each side. Connect the plywood sheets together with a piece of 1×3 board. Then make a frame. Once this part is completed, place the mattress inside to check how it fits. Next, attach the 3 door hinges to the bottom of the front frame. Then the other side of the door hinges to the base of the frame that is on the wall. Basically, when the hinges are on the frame, your folding bed closet is ready. All that's left to do is add locks, molding, shelves and paint! In order not to overload you with details, it is better for you to read the full version of the instructions on the website, link below.

DIY doll rocking bed
Hello, dear friends! The next master class on making toys from cardboard will be especially useful for parents who have a little princess and a future mother growing up in their family. Girls love to play with dolls, and in the doll world, as you know, everything should be like people's. And first of all, the doll needs its own crib. We will now tell you how to make a rocking bed for a doll with your own hands. We will also share some new practical nuances of working with corrugated cardboard.
Master class: cardboard rocking bed for a doll
We wanted to make the doll's crib special (at least among the cardboard samples), so we decided to decorate it with a carved pattern. We implemented this task together with Olya Kachurovskaya.
The pattern was specially chosen to be simple, so that it would be easier to cut holes in the cardboard. But in the end, the crib turned out just like a real one and, despite its dimensions (50x28x39.5 cm), is quite durable.
At the same time, like all our cardboard toys, it is quite accessible for making at home and with any level of training.
To create a doll rocking bed you will need the following materials and tools:
— sheets of A4 size office paper (for printing templates);
- corrugated cardboard 3 mm thick (cardboard of greater thickness can be used, but in this case it will be necessary to adjust the sizes of the slots and protrusions to connect the parts);
- stationery knife;
— tool for creasing corrugated cardboard;
- ruler;
- a simple pencil (it is better to use an automatic pencil);
— glue “Moment Crystal”;
- glue stick;
- double sided tape.
A set of templates for a doll's crib can be downloaded here:
Doll rocking bed
1. Making composite templates for cutting out parts.
For such large-scale products as this doll rocking bed, we use composite templates that are assembled from fragments printed on regular A4 sheets. With the help of such templates you can make precise details, even without knowing how to draw and sketch.
We have used this method more than once to create various cardboard products, as well as paper window decorations.
Actually, there is nothing complicated about it. But for clarity, so that there are absolutely no questions left, I will demonstrate how we do it.
So, we print out fragments of the template (in this case, the crib back template).
The file contains an assembly diagram for each template, and the fragments are numbered. The task comes down only to carefully and accurately connecting the fragments together.
To do this, cut off the allowances on the right and bottom of the first fragment using a stationery knife and a ruler (exactly along the lines of the outlined contour).
Cut off the allowance from the bottom of the second fragment.
For the third fragment, we cut off only the allowance on the right, and leave the fourth as is.
Then we connect the first and second fragments to each other. To do this, we place an unnecessary sheet of paper on the second fragment, aligning it with the left border of the outline. Lubricate the side allowance with a glue stick and glue the sheet with the first fragment so that the corresponding lines of the template coincide exactly.
Similarly, we glue the third and fourth fragments.
After this, we glue both blanks to each other.
This is how the result should turn out.
Next, the crib back template needs to be cut out, and you can start making cardboard parts.
2. The procedure for making a doll rocking bed.
We place the cut-out back template on the wrong side of the cardboard sheet so that the visible stripes (formed in the places where the corrugation waves are glued to the flat layer of cardboard) are located vertically.
To prevent the template from accidentally moving, it can be glued to cardboard with 3-4 pieces of double-sided tape. The adhesive tape is then easily separated from the cardboard and the template will not suffer any damage.
Here in the photo the row of template holes is not cut out. This was done on purpose: firstly, so as not to do unnecessary work (to mark these holes on the cardboard, it is enough to put, for example, an awl or the point of a compass, points in the corners of the corresponding contours), and secondly, a large number of holes reduces the strength of the paper template.
We trace with a pencil the outer contour of the template and the contours of its holes.
Having made the markings, we cut out the back part. Moreover, unlike cutting out paper, here it is better to first cut out the part along the outer contour, and then the holes inside. The fact is that when cutting, the workpiece has to be constantly rotated, and it will be more convenient if it is as small as possible.
We cut out straight lines using a ruler, any roundness or curvilinearity - by hand.
The cardboard is quite thick and dense, it takes some effort to cut. However, if you press hard on the knife, you may not have time to stop in time and jump out of the contour. To avoid this, it is better to first cut the line about half the thickness of the cardboard, and then cut to the end with the second or third pass.
A total of 4 back parts will be needed. In this case, 2 of them need to be made with a slot for connecting to the stock, and 2 - without it.
Now let's prepare the bed for our doll rocking bed. We make a composite template according to the diagram. And transfer the markings to a sheet of cardboard (again, to the wrong side). The template should be positioned so that the stripes on the surface of the cardboard run across the bed.
To mark the fold line, use the tip of a knife to place marks at its ends (you need to pierce the cardboard right through). You can also put it in the center if the ruler is shorter than 50 cm.
Cut out the workpiece.
We will bend the sides not inward, but outward. That is, the front side of the cardboard should become the inner surface of the doll's crib bed. It will be more aesthetically pleasing.
Therefore, we turn the workpiece over and draw a straight line along the marks made using a scoring tool.
As such a tool, you can use a plate similar to the one shown in the photo. You can also score (but with caution!) with the end of scissors or a screwdriver.
The part should be folded by lifting its central part and keeping the sides on the table surface. If you do the opposite, the sides, which still have reduced strength, will simply become wrinkled.
To strengthen the sides, cut out 2 copies of them from cardboard. To do this, we will use the same crib bed template. It marks the boundaries of the outer sides.
Then glue the outer edges (right side out) to the inner ones.
We will also glue together the inner (with slots) and outer backrests of the future rocking crib in pairs.
Then we apply Moment Crystal glue into the connecting slots.
And insert the corresponding projections of the crib bed into the slots. We fix it and wait for the glue to set.
Glue the second back in the same way. And now the rocking bed for the doll is ready!
3. Mini version of a carved rocking bed made of cardboard.
For variety, we have also prepared templates for a smaller copy of the same rocking bed, with dimensions 19x11x15 cm. Dolls are different, after all:)
Here the templates fit entirely on A4 sheets, which immediately simplifies the work. And in general, this crib requires less time. Although it is somewhat more difficult to cut through a small pattern. But you can get used to it.
The back parts are made in the same way as described above.
There is a slight difference in the manufacture of the stock. Since in this case there is no need for double sides, the printed template can be immediately glued to cardboard (using pieces of double-sided tape) and cut directly along it.
We bend the sides inward. Let the front side of the cardboard be on the outside.
Then we glue the parts together and it’s done.
Here they are, our carved beauties together, for comparison.
All that remains is to lay out the doll’s bed (store-bought or home-made) and put the doll to sleep.
By the way, when making a crib for a doll using our templates, it is not at all necessary to decorate it with the proposed carved patterns. The crib can be painted, decorated with painting, applique, decoupage - in general, you can do whatever your heart desires.
In addition, in some cases you can do decorating together with your child.
Now you know how to make a crib for a doll with your own hands, and you can provide your children with a good-quality and, importantly, environmentally friendly toy, while saving a significant amount of money.
Although what is more important is not even monetary savings, but the child’s delight and sense of pride that his dad or mom is a jack of all trades.
Craft with pleasure, give joy to children! And come back to us for new ideas for toys and other cardboard products!

Puppet show
You can create it yourself from unnecessary cases. One of the simpler versions is the shadow analogue. It's easy to develop and fun to play, adding new characters as needed.
Useful for creativity:
- shoe box;
- white transparent tracing paper or tissue paper;
- black dye and brush;
- pencil;
- thin wooden sticks;
- Super glue;
- scissors and a stationery knife.
Cut off the bottom, leaving a thin border on the sides. Glue tracing paper to these sides.
To create characters, you can print templates from the Internet or draw them yourself. If light paper was used for them, then the figures are painted over black and allowed to dry.
Here are some more ideas for theatrical performances.
Corrugated cardboard
Corrugated cardboard consists of a corrugated layer and several layers of cardboard. Depending on the type of corrugated corrugated board, the number of corrugated layers also varies. As practice shows, the weight of shoes can withstand even the thinnest sheet of corrugated cardboard.
Tip: the structure can be strengthened by reducing the gaps and increasing the sheets of corrugated cardboard in the product.
In corrugated cardboard, we are interested in the corrugated part, which is the key to strength. It must be perpendicular to the floor, otherwise, at the first load, the entire structure will fall apart
It is important to remember this when drawing up your drawings.
What materials to make the bed from?
Here, boundless horizons open up for the flight of fantasy. You can make a bed from anything you can find in the house. From standard products made of cardboard or wood to the most seemingly unexpected materials, for example, toothpicks, egg cartons, matchboxes, etc.
- boxes;
- paper;
- newspapers;
- cardboard;
- plywood;
- Styrofoam;
- ice cream sticks;
- sponges for washing dishes and much more.
Products made from rigid wire look interesting: they look like real forged models. Even unnecessary wallpaper and remaining ceiling tiles are suitable for making a small bed - the choice of material is not limited to anything other than your own imagination.
Bed for dolls using origami technique
Paper can make an excellent and beautiful bed for dolls with a headboard and modern bed linen. A bed for dolls assembled using the origami technique can also be used as a part of any craft. All the details and techniques for working with paper are outlined below.
Materials
Before you start making crafts, make sure you have:
- a sheet of colored paper;
- a sheet of printed paper;
- rulers;
- pencil;
- scissors
Step 1
To work, you need to take a sheet of colored cardboard and cut it to a square with sides of 16 cm. You can change the parameters of the original figure at your discretion, it is only important to leave the shape
Step 2
. Fold the square in half. Run your fingers along the fold line and unfold the sheet again.
Step 3
. Bend the ends of the sides of the figure towards the middle, forming two more fold lines. They should be located parallel to the existing one.
Step 4
. Fold the resulting sides again towards the midline. As a result, you should have 5 parallel folds.
Step 5
. Expand the sheet to the parameters obtained in the third step. Turn it over and bend it perpendicular to the existing lines, slightly short of the end.
Step 6
. Bend the corners at the bottom of the resulting figure.
Step 7
. Fold the top of the paper back, following the line from the folded corners.
Step 8
. Bend the upper part without corners in the same direction as the lower one.
Step 9
. Fold the corners at the top. These will be the fold lines along which you need to make the pockets.
Step 10
. Bend the rectangle located between the pockets in half, fixing them.
Step 11
. At the bottom of the figure, also bend the corners and form pockets along the lines.
Step 12
. Unfold the resulting product. Adjust the sides to form a clear rectangular outline. The bed with headboard is ready.
Step 13
. Cut out a square from printed paper. Fold its upper part in half. Fix the fold lines with your fingers and bend the resulting product along the edges perpendicular to the existing fold. This will be a blanket for the bed.
Step 14
. All that remains is to make a pillow from a rectangle of printed paper. To do this, bend the strip in half and bend the edges of the paper towards the resulting midline.
Step 15
. You also need to bend the edge of the resulting figure towards the center, but turning the paper in the opposite direction. Repeat the same procedure on the other side of the piece of paper.
Step 16
. Turning the figure over to the side where the print is visible, the protruding ends need to be folded along the already prepared folds.
Step 17
. From one edge of the resulting triangle you need to bend the corners and tuck this part into the pocket on the opposite side. The paper pillow is ready, all you have to do is fluff it up a little and add it to the blanket on the paper bed.
Ready!

Step-by-step photo lesson:
First, we will make a bed frame from an orange sheet of paper 20 x 20 cm. We bend the lower part in half.
We bend the upper and lower parts to the resulting vertical line.
To the same line, bend the sides in half again.
We open the bed blank, but not completely.
Turn it over. We bend it. Leave 1-2 cm.
Bend the upper side corners down without going beyond the line.
The ends of the bent corners will become the fold line for the first layer of the workpiece. Bend upward.
Then fold the first layer of paper towards the horizontal fold line.
Bend the lower side corners up.
We open the bottom part of the workpiece.
Using the side fold lines, we fold our workpiece, as shown in the photo.
To keep the craft in place, bend the top part into the middle.
We bend the upper corners on the sides.
Let's bend the top line of the workpiece down a little. The line width will be 0.5-1 cm.
We pull the two pockets with our fingers and turn the blank into a voluminous paper bed.
The origami paper bed is completely ready, but we will complement it with a sleeping set, which will be made from a square sheet of blue paper 10 x 10 cm.
Open it and bend the top and bottom sides to the resulting line.
Turn the square sheet over so that the fold lines are vertical.
Bend the bottom side of the sheet up 1 cm.
We bend the sides down.
We put the bed linen into the pockets.
The origami bed is ready.
How to make a wooden bed?
Before you begin the process of manufacturing parts, you need to prepare the room. If you are making furniture in a living room, first cover the floor and furniture pieces with film. Since during the work there will be a lot of dust from wood shavings.
Important: in order for the furniture to be truly reliable and durable, it is necessary to use special groove-to-groove carpentry joints during its assembly. The dimensions of the groove are selected individually based on the thickness of the timber, board or slats. Such products will withstand mechanical stress well
Such products will withstand mechanical stress well.
Any children's bed should consist of the following elements:
- frame;
- sidewalls;
- slats;
- backrest;
- legs
The frame should be made of well-planed boards. Slats can either be purchased ready-made at a furniture store or made independently from birch or pine. They are laid on the base of the lamellas at a distance of 5 cm from each other. Sidewalls on a child's bed are required for safety reasons. That is, if your baby twists and turns in his sleep, then their presence will prevent him from falling out of bed while sleeping.
The manufacture of a children's bed is carried out in the following sequence:
- Markings of future parts are applied to the wood according to the drawing. To do this, you need to arm yourself with a simple pencil and a ruler.
- The marked parts are cut out with a jigsaw along the slate contour.
- Next, we cut the metal corners of the required size and drill holes in them for the screws.
- We attach the corners to the bottom of the sides to mount the mattress base.
- We lay the bed on its side and collect all the necessary parts.
- We process all irregularities and corners with sandpaper or a sander.
- At the bottom we assemble drawers.
- Next, we lay slats on the bottom and cover the bed linen.
Important: during assembly of the product, all screws must be screwed deeply into the product. Then they can be puttied or closed with special plastic plugs.

Advantages of making furniture from laminated chipboard yourself
To produce interior items, you need not only experience working with materials and their processing, but also time, effort, and a certain set of tools. Why, given the availability of a wide range of beds of different qualities and configurations on the market, do many people start making furniture with their own hands?
Making furniture yourself
There are several reasons:
- self-assembly of the bed allows you to significantly save the family budget;
- in this case there is confidence in the quality of the materials and fittings used;
- the most important thing is that you have the opportunity to bring to life your own ideas about the convenience and aesthetics of this piece of furniture, make a product of such shape and size that allows you to fit it perfectly into the interior, decorate the bed to your liking, arrange the required number of storage spaces and niches that allow you to increase it functionality.
Among other things, a person who assembles furniture with his own hands increases his self-esteem and increases the respect of others. In addition, the production of the bed is not particularly complicated. Not many details are needed. The main thing is to make a competent drawing, prepare high-quality materials and accessories, and also be patient.

How to make an oven for dolls - video on
A doll's house is a beautiful projection of real life, in which everything looks quite real, from all kinds of kitchen utensils to plastic residents. Armed with polystyrene foam and cardboard, you can easily make a cozy doll kitchen with your own hands. A simple master class will clearly show how to make a microwave for dolls, a small kettle, a refrigerator and other toy dishes.
Correct scale
The traditional scale of such products is 1:12; this size is harmoniously combined with the size of the popular Barbie dolls, which you can later place in your toy kitchen. On the same scale, it is necessary to select dishes, a kettle, household appliances, a refrigerator, and other decor.
Materials
For making furniture and decor with your own hands, anything is suitable, from old beads, various rags, unnecessary fabrics to pieces of plywood or cardboard. To make upholstered furniture you will need padding, such as padding polyester or cotton wool. Plywood blocks should be used as the basis for the cabinets.
A variety of dishes can be made from plasticine or polymer; for example, a small teapot can later be painted with white acrylic, and it will look like a real one.
Microwave
A doll kitchen should look as realistic as possible, which means you can’t do without household appliances. Your children will be able to heat up their plastic food in a beautiful microwave, which can be made from a sharpener and decorative paper.
Choose a sharpener with a special removable box designed to collect shavings. Cover it with plain white paper or foil if you want to make a metal microwave oven.
You can make small buttons, toggle switches or levers from plasticine with your own hands. This toy microwave will decorate your miniature kitchen; it looks realistic and is quite functional.
Multicooker
Dolls also need to eat properly, but how to make a multi-cooker for dolls using scrap materials with your own hands? Such a complex-looking device is problematic to cut out of polystyrene foam or sculpt from clay. A toy multi-cooker must be made to the correct scale, so the base for the toy should be selected very carefully.
To make a multicooker you will need:
- stationery knife;
- thick cardboard;
- paper;
- hairspray cap.
Take a sheet of cardboard, attach a cap to it and carefully trace it with a pen. There should be three such circles; glue them together using PVA. Then on both sides of this pancake you need to glue a circle of plain white paper. Having cut out one long strip of paper, you need to seal the edge of the lid with it.
Then you should cut out a circle from paper one and a half times larger in diameter than the previous ones and glue it to the cap. Trim the overhanging edges until the edges look like flower petals. Each of the petals should be folded and glued to the cap. Cover the entire base with a wide strip of paper to hide the petals.
To create a dashboard, you need to stick a small rectangle of foil or mirror paper on the multicooker. To create the appearance of the buttons, you need to cut them out from any image of household appliances from a magazine.
Fridge
A refrigerator is a place for storing food, without which it is impossible to imagine even a doll’s kitchen. To make it you will need:
- tea bag packaging;
- white gouache or acrylic;
- cotton buds;
- thick cardboard.
Using a utility knife, cut one of the long sides of the box in half to create cabinet doors. To make shelves, you will need rectangles of cardboard, cut exactly to the size of the box; they must be fixed with glue.
Paint tea packaging with white gouache or acrylic, and cut cotton swabs will make excellent handles for the refrigerator. They should be placed vertically on each door. This cute product can be decorated with small stickers that imitate refrigerator magnets.
Kettle
A realistic snow-white teapot can be made using ordinary paper, glue and a toothpick. Cut several long strips, coat them with PVA glue on one side and wrap them around a toothpick. Once you have the desired diameter, the toothpick can be removed.

- How to make a bed for dolls with your own hands: a guide for loving mothers
The dream of any little girl is to have her own dollhouse with all the necessary household items, especially if the desire is due to the presence of a favorite doll, and the daughter firmly believes in the existence of a good fairy. Of course, there are no magical fairies, but providing a baby with a toy set of furniture is within the power of a loving handicraft mother. And let's start with the most necessary thing - a sleeping area. So, how to make a bed for dolls?
The dream of every little girl is to have her own dollhouse with all the necessary household items.
DIY cardboard bed for a doll
You can use any cardboard box for the product.
You will need:
- A4 paper sheet;
- A simple pencil, scissors;
- Ruler, cardboard.
How to do:
First we make a pattern for the future craft. On a sheet of paper we put the dimensions of the headboard, footboard, bottom of the bed, side slats of the headboard and footboard. In the drawing, the dimensions are given in millimeters, so it would be more advisable to initially measure the doll with a centimeter so that the crib fits it. In the presented drawing, the dimensions of the crib are 15x20 cm, these are standard for a baby doll.
We transfer the resulting patterns onto cardboard sheets. Be sure to make straight cuts along the marked lines, as shown in the picture. They will play a connecting role in the design of the future bed, so their width should be equal to the thickness of the cardboard.
An important point in the assembly, here we involve the child. Initially, we connect the bottom with two sides, inserting them into the cuts. The colored circles in the drawing example will help you orient yourself correctly.
Then strengthen the toy structure with both backs.
As a result of assembly, you get such a pretty crib.
Help your child decorate doll furniture with markers. Strips of tape will help hide the side slits, protecting them from damage.
For additional stability of the toy, insert pieces of wooden sushi sticks into the sides under the cardboard, having previously glued them.

Bunk bed for dolls
In fact, making a bunk doll crib is quite simple. If you plan to make a toy from cardboard, add four wooden sticks to the design - sushi of the same size. Impregnate the fastening points of the second tier of the crib with glue. It is better not to make the racks of the upper floor out of cardboard. Under constant exposure, thick paper may bend and the product will lose its original appearance.
We make the second floor of wooden furniture in a similar way, using bars or plywood strips glued to each other instead of racks.
Making a doll bed out of wood
The market price of wooden toys does not always guarantee the quality of the purchased product. There is a real chance of encountering a fake - prefabricated parts of different sizes or made of low-quality material, wood poorly sanded or coated with toxic varnish. The most practical and cheapest option is to make such furniture yourself. Remains of construction boards and bars are ideal as starting materials.
A small wooden crib can be made using the same dimensions or stencils. For example, a piece of a rectangular block. It fits perfectly as a bottom and sides at the same time. Attach two strips to it on both sides of the length of the figure; these will be the walls of the headboard and footboard. Sand the craft well with sandpaper and varnish. Together with your child, decorate the walls with acrylic paints. Cover the applied drawings well with colorless varnish.
The second option for simple finishing of children's furniture is to cover the working surfaces of the crib with fabric.
Making a bunk doll bed from plywood
Plywood is an inexpensive type of durable wood material. Durable plywood products do not require assembly or special storage or maintenance conditions.
Necessary:
- Bamboo sticks;
- Self-tapping screws;
- Braid;
- PVA glue (you can use hot melt glue);
- Plywood.
What to do:
We cut the sticks into 12 parts. We make 4 parts longer, they will be supporting posts. Divide the remaining 8 sticks into 4 pieces. The first batch of sticks will be the load-bearing sides of the width of the bed, the other 4 sides will be the length of the bottom. Therefore, the length of the first sticks is equal to twice the length of the second batch. Fold each tier of supporting fasteners - sticks into a rectangle and secure with glue.
Wrap the sticks of the posts with braid, periodically gluing the winding. Screw in the self-tapping screws in the places where the lower and upper tiers are fastened, and secure with an adhesive layer.
Place the rectangular bottoms on the screws, as shown in the figure. Also soak the fastening points with glue. After drying, tighten the fastened parts of the bottom with tape, gluing them periodically so that the fabric does not slip.
In a similar way, weave the braid along the second floor of the frame.
We make the supporting parts of the sides and bottom sides and the back wall of the bed from plywood or fiberboard according to the frame measurements taken.
It turns out to be a quite durable bunk bed for your favorite dolls.
Cover the plywood craft with fabric.
From leftover fabric scraps we make a mattress, pillow and blanket.
Doll bed made from a shoe box
The easiest and cheapest option is to quickly create a crib for children's toys.
You will need:
- Shoe box;
- Scissors, needle, thread;
- Scraps of satin fabric or ribbon;
- Lace or braid;
- Stapler.
How to do:
Having decided on the size, take the doll and place it on the box lid. For the future product, take the width size a little larger, about 6-7 cm.
Round off the ends of the corners using a pencil mark.
Cut the model. Use the rest of the box as walls.
Glue the ends with glue, and additionally run a strip of tape along the outside so that the structure does not fall apart.
We cut out the details of the top of the dome based on the size of the base.
Glue as shown in the picture and let dry.
We assemble both parts into one product. Secure the joints with staples.
We attach a rectangular stand to the bottom of the product.
We use satin material to decorate the inside and outside of the crib. We decorate the inside of the bed with glue.
Decorate the sides with lace ribbon.
Modeling the beautiful bottom of the crib, we sew a lace ribbon to the satin. Attach it with staples. Stitch the seams with a needle.
This is how the crib turned out.
Paper doll bed
Necessary:
- Landscape sheet;
- Thick paper;
- The tape is transparent;
- PVA glue;
- Scissors;
- Satin ribbons;
- Pencil, ruler;
- Thin wire.
What to do:
- We adjust the proportions of the future crib to the size of the doll. Make the details of the crib according to the drawing - 2 bottoms, 4 backs, 4 sides. When transferring sizes, take into account the peculiarities of the material used - the smaller the bed, the stronger it will be.
- Using a stencil, we cut out similar parts from cardboard to strengthen the craft.
- We glue two blanks onto the cut out cardboard stencils on one side and the other. For stability, place pieces of wire on the adhesive surface. Cardboard and wire will provide the paper bed with strength and durability during the operation of the craft.
- After drying, assemble the parts into one structure.
