Layout of an apartment with an area of 33-34 sq. m: design and proper zoning of space

Photo: dizainexpert.ru 33 square meters is not too much for an entire apartment, but even they can be changed beyond recognition! You will have to think through all the little details and details of the layout - but the result will exceed expectations. Do you doubt it? How do you like these 8 design projects of one-room apartments of 33 sq.m. from famous studios and authors?

Interior features of a one-room apartment 33 sq m

A small apartment does not mean the lack of opportunity to furnish the room comfortably and stylishly. A one-room apartment can easily accommodate two people, and if zoning is done correctly, then three or more. 33 square meters will accommodate a bedroom, workplace, kitchen, dressing room, living room and shower with toilet. The space allows you to embody any home interior ideas. The main thing is to rationally and efficiently draw up a plan for the location of certain rooms.

To decorate a small apartment, a predominantly light color palette is used

If a small child is planned or lives in the house, it is worth taking care of his personal small space in which the child can feel protected and spend his free time comfortably.

Modern Design Ideas

In conclusion, we offer you a small photo selection of various options for arranging 1-room Khrushchev apartments of 30 square meters. Having ready-made samples of stylish projects in front of your eyes, it will be easier to create your own concept for renovating a future room, decide on the interior style, divide the room into separate zones, and think over a plan for placing household appliances and furniture.

By applying modern principles of ergonomics and innovative technologies, you can equip even the smallest apartment with maximum comfort.

Minimalism. Minimalism offers maximum space and a minimum of things, complex lighting with a predominance of light shades. There is no room for a clutter of furniture, so you need to carefully consider what items you will need in the apartment. If you're thinking about getting rid of excess clutter, home improvement could be a great opportunity.

We make a list of everything you need

This is the most important point that should come first. In a one-room apartment it is not always possible to accommodate everything you would like. It is important to immediately prioritize what is more important to you and what you can refuse.

An approximate list of things for which it may not be easy to find a place in a one-room apartment: a bathtub (it might make sense to give up in favor of a shower + washing machine), a double bed (how important is it for you or a sofa will do), the number of cabinets and other storage spaces, complete a set of kitchen appliances, a bed and an area for a child now or in the future, a workspace for a computer, etc.

When this point is forgotten, it ends with an attempt to cram in what is missing at the last stage of repair. We often end up with an awkwardly placed washing machine or refrigerator in the hallway.

No one knows better than you how your apartment should turn out. People did not need a large kitchen; they set priorities and made their choice in favor of an additional room by reducing the kitchen:

Need a plan

Arranging furniture and things according to the principle of where they fit is a bad idea. Design is a certain principle of organizing space, light, and color, and if it is not followed, even the most beautiful things and unique furniture will not save the job.

In a one-room home there is little choice. Whatever style is formally chosen, there is only one principle for arranging furniture - in groups, which corresponds to the minimalist concept of zoning

This is the first important rule when planning. The second concerns the physical increase in space. In a city apartment, the kitchen is separated from the room, which is unnecessary

If the wall is not load-bearing, it is worth removing it. The kitchen-living room area uses space much more efficiently than a tiny corridor and interior partition. If the wall cannot be demolished, it is worth increasing the doorway to the maximum and eliminating the partitions between the living room and the hallway. There is always a meaning to this. In an apartment, the partition between zones can be wardrobes, shelving, double-sided chests of drawers, sliding partitions if necessary, and all of them use up space more economically than walls, freeing up such valuable tens of centimeters. The third rule is the selection and movement of zones. In a one-room apartment there is a bedroom area, a living room, a work area, a kitchen-dining room and a boudoir area if the home is intended for a woman. The kitchen-dining room should flow into the living room, this is obvious, the work area should be placed near the window - this is a necessity, and the bedroom area can be hidden or combined with the living room. Fourth, the combination and distribution of zones is associated not only with the desire to create a beautiful interior, but with the necessary requirements. One person can do without a dining room, but two people will feel cramped in the kitchen corner, so it is advisable to allocate at least a bar counter. If the owner of the apartment works at home, then his work corner should be comfortable and roomy, and not located on the coffee table, because there is nowhere to put the computer. Even 36 sq. m. allow you to create what is required if you give up what is unnecessary.

One-room apartment project

If you don’t contact a designer and do everything yourself, then photocopy a bunch of plans for your one-room apartment, arm yourself with a pencil and go ahead and draw the layout. At this stage, your task is to arrange everything that you wrote down in the first paragraph. As practice shows, this is not always easy to do in a one-room apartment. Remember to maintain scale.

People often ask about computer planning programs. This makes no sense if you just want to sketch out a plan for arranging furniture. It is irrational to waste time mastering the program in order to then make only one of your own apartments in it. A piece of paper and a pencil are enough. You can also take a photo of the apartment plan and draw the furniture arrangement on it in any graphic editor, even in Paint or in Photoshop. Or go to companies that make custom-made furniture. They will do something like this for you for free:

At this stage, you can think about redevelopment. In a one-room apartment in the classical sense, the rooms are separated by walls and doors. Now it is fashionable to demolish walls and make a studio apartment, but you can also think about erecting additional walls to turn a one-room apartment into a two-room apartment. A sufficient comfortable bedroom area is 10 square meters. This is already a full-fledged room without any compromises, but it can be smaller, then the bed will have to be placed against one of the walls.

10 square meters is enough area for a room. If it is possible to divide the apartment into such zones, feel free to do it. Rooms less than 10 meters are difficult to perceive.

When placing the toilet, washbasin, bathtub, shower and sink, consider how the drainage will be carried out into the sewer. Supplying water is not a problem - the water is under pressure and there is no need for a slope or pipe diameter. But there may be problems with drainage: the sewer pipe requires a slope, and it is undesirable to place it too far from the riser.

Don’t be afraid of unusual ideas; in a one-room apartment, experiments with location can be quite successful. Especially when you plan them in advance and not on the fly. Ideas may concern, for example, the location of the bed. You can build it into the wall, making it folding, you can build a niche for it, or zone a room for it, separating a part for the bed. It is at the design stage that you need to think about such things.

Two-room apartment with a compact kitchen

According to the developers, the apartment with an area of 51 square meters was divided into a huge kitchen and a narrow room with a sloping wall. Designer Natalya Shirokorad suggested that the owner use the square meters of the unreasonably large kitchen differently and allocate another room.

An internal window was built between the kitchen and the bedroom to allow daylight into the room. The large balcony was insulated and a dressing room was placed there, separating it from the room with French doors. The living room was divided into a dining room and a sofa. Despite the small size of the kitchen, it turned out to be functional - with cabinets to the ceiling and a dishwasher. In the dining area, space was also allocated for a work corner.

Layout and expansion of space

The issue of planning comes up first. After all, fitting a living room and a bedroom into a one-room apartment is the most difficult task you will have to face. It can be solved in different ways: by combining two functions in one room or by completely abandoning the bedroom or (which also happens) the living room. It would be possible to separate the two zones with a wall, but further dividing an already small space is not the best solution. Two solutions are popular: installing a transformable sofa in the room (living room with bedroom functions) and installing a bed in the back area/niche, and a sofa in a visible place (living room and bedroom in equal parts).

Visually and physically expanding the space can only be done by starting a real redevelopment. Most often, a one-room apartment is turned into a studio, removing all the walls except those that insulate the bathroom. In some cases, the walls are not removed, but “moved” a little. Designers also resort to an interesting technique - they move doorways so that the doors do not interfere with the correct arrangement of furniture. Of course, such a decision should be made only if absolutely necessary. In addition, the redevelopment will require relevant documents. Load-bearing walls cannot be moved or demolished.

You can expand the usable area by combining the room with a loggia or storage room. Very often, “insignificant” two square meters can completely change the perception of the entire house.

Studio apartment

Such a small-sized living space should be both stylish and functional. To ensure that the lack of free space does not cause discomfort during your stay, you should be especially careful when drawing up a plan for dividing the apartment into certain areas.

In a odnushka, as a rule, there is one full room, the area of which can be increased by adding a balcony or part of the corridor. More compact furniture items, a minimal amount of decor, colorful and large prints in the decoration would be appropriate here.

The photo shows a top view of the layout of a one-room apartment of 35 square meters.

Such miniature small-families generally have low ceilings, so in this case, the use of stucco decoration, colored surfaces, bright patterns and embossed textures is not recommended, since such solutions will further aggravate this disadvantage.

An excellent option would be a white ceiling with a glossy or matte texture, which will give the atmosphere air and weightlessness.

It is also better if the room has a minimum number of doors with a swing mechanism, which conceals the usable area. Sliding structures or pencil case models are perfect for decorating doorways.

Studio

Sometimes a studio apartment can be a clever transformation of a one-room apartment. The main advantage of open-plan studio spaces is the sufficient amount of space in the aisles. When choosing furniture for a given home, it is important to correctly determine the size of the space.

For example, in a studio it will be much more rational to install a kitchen unit almost to the ceiling, thus increasing the capacity and hiding items such as dishes, household appliances and other utensils behind the facade. Various partitions or a bar counter are considered quite relevant for decorating a room.

The photo shows the design of a studio apartment of 35 square meters, with a narrow long corridor.

To really save square meters, choose comfortable multi-seat sofas that can easily be transformed into a spacious sleeping bed. This way it turns out to combine the guest area and a place to sleep. Also in the room there are comfortable armchairs, a television panel, a dining set, a dining table and a work corner.

Eurodvushka

This housing is distinguished by the presence of a bathroom, a separate bedroom and a small kitchen-living room. Despite the fact that Euro two-room apartments have smaller dimensions compared to conventional two-room apartments, they are very comfortable and functional. This layout would be a good choice for a bachelor or a young family.

Space distribution

Since it is important that the area is efficient, every centimeter must be taken into account. The plan must indicate all the furniture that will be in the apartment, accessories, lighting and all details

You can make changes as you work on the project if you come up with new ideas.

The work area should be divided into several parts, namely the kitchen, living room and bedroom, which can serve as a nursery. Each sector will have appropriate furniture, but more detailed information about this is given below. The room area can be highlighted using lighting, light partitions or a podium. It is better to choose translucent fabric or wicker screens so that they do not create heaviness in the interior. In addition, they can be folded and hidden at any time.

As for the podium, this is an excellent choice when planning an apartment with an area of 36 square meters. m. Thanks to it, you can divide the area, place a pull-out bed or drawers in it where you will store clothes. So you have the opportunity to save space in your home

But there is one drawback that you should pay attention to - the podium is not suitable for apartments with low ceilings, so take this factor into account. Sliding doors are in great demand for compact housing, as they do not take up free space.

They can be installed in the hall, as well as in the bathroom.

Zoning

Refusal of extra walls and doors cluttering up the space leads to another problem - the need for zoning the apartment. How to separate the kitchen from the living room? How to isolate a bed as much as possible? There is no universal answer to these questions, because each specific project involves the use of certain zoning methods. And yet, there are several win-win options:

  • zoning with furniture. The easiest zoning method to install. Bookshelves and cabinets can replace walls, but for a small room such a solution can hardly be called ideal. We recommend using bar counters and shelving of medium height (about 130-150 cm) as dividers; they allow light to spread freely and do not visually reduce the size of the room. It is also good to differentiate between the living room and bedroom areas by connecting the head of the bed to the back of the sofa;
  • zoning using color. It would seem that you can make the living room in green tones, the dining area in yellow, and the bedroom in blue. All of them will be clearly visible, but the entire interior as a whole will not be harmonious. That is why using different colors in one room requires knowledge and experience. Usually they choose one or two primary colors and complement the interior with accent tones. The right combination of shades will help highlight each zone, but maintain the unity of the composition;
  • level zoning. An ideal option for small apartments is to use a podium. You can hide a bed in it, or you can place a bedroom on it. In any case, this technique will allow you to immediately highlight the area that is located on a hill;
  • highlighting with texture. In fact, it is not only color that can attract attention. White tiles and white laminate look different. And designers actively use this technique when designing different zones;
  • highlighting with light. A small room must be well lit. A common chandelier under the ceiling is a necessary element of the design of such an interior. However, each individual zone must have its own light source. Place a lamp on your desk, a floor lamp near the sofa in the living room, and a sconce above the bed.

The correct combination of several methods of zoning space guarantees a successful result. Remember that the boundaries of the zones should not be “conspicuous”. The right design unites different zones and creates a common space.

Popular styles

To decorate a one-room apartment, you can choose one general style and stick to it in each room (kitchen, bathroom, hallway, corridor, room), or experiment, trying to arrange each room in a different direction.

Minimalism

Those who live in small apartments can appreciate the minimalist style. It is good because it significantly saves free space in the apartment. If you follow the rules of this style, the apartment will only have the bare minimum of things you need for a comfortable life. Actually, this is where the name of the style comes from.

Apartments decorated in this way will not appeal to avid collectors. They will definitely be appreciated by those who like the room to have only useful things instead of a huge amount of furniture and decorative trinkets. In a kitchen in this style, it is enough to put a set, a table with chairs and the necessary equipment. And in the living room there is a sofa or bed, a chest of drawers and a coffee table.

In a minimalist style room, it makes sense to use practical and comfortable furniture (all kinds of transformers, folding table tops). Moreover, furniture is often a work of furniture art. For example, it could be a coffee table in the shape of an aquarium or a sofa with shelves built into the back. The imagination of designers is limitless, so modern apartments can be decorated with new things that only become more practical and functional.

Scandinavian

Another beautiful style is Scandinavian. It has many similarities with minimalism: the use of light colors in decoration, natural wood and glass in all rooms, a minimum of furniture. This direction differs from minimalism in that it contains more details that create comfort. The style came to us from cold Scandinavia, so there should be a lot of natural light in the main room, hallway, kitchen, and corridor. To convey the desired atmosphere, you need to use carpets stylized as animal skins, live plants in tubs, tables and chests of drawers made of natural wood. These simple details will make you feel at one with nature.

Classical

Elements of classics, neoclassics, classicism can be used when decorating a one-room apartment. This style is characterized by the use of massive furniture with elegant decor and finishing, plaster stucco on the ceiling, and crystal chandelier. You should not avoid this if the area of your apartment allows it. Choose the most interesting and necessary details that will decorate your room. For example, a wide bed and neat tables for the bedroom, a massive oak table for the work area, a soft carpet, a mirror in a gilded frame.

Provence

The Provence style that came to us from France can be called light and airy. This is an interesting direction, combining elements of classics and Scandinavian style. It is characterized by the use of light colors, soft light, and floral patterns. Many people believe that the Provence style is only suitable for country houses, but you will be pleasantly surprised if you use its elements in a modern one-room apartment. It will become cozy, spacious and bright. Provence style is great for decorating a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom and a hallway. Basic stylistic techniques can be used everywhere. It is characterized by light furniture and a sea of sun.

Loft

This trend came to us from America, where it was especially popular in the middle of the last century. To create a loft-style interior, you don’t have to worry too much. Apartments in this style resemble empty, semi-abandoned industrial premises. Inside, there are often bare walls made of raw brick, concrete, carelessly hung chandeliers and wiring protruding from the walls. All this cannot be called a flaw, because it is these details that give the room atmosphere.

The loft style is best suited for modern studios, although some basic ideas can be implemented in ordinary apartments. For example, you can put leather furniture, homemade shelves or coffee tables, decorate the room with modern appliances, metal lamps and other things that suit the style. Furnishings should be expensive, while wall decoration may look somewhat neglected and sloppy. The windows are distinguished by the fact that they are large: primarily panoramic, without curtains.

Of course, these are not all existing stylistic trends, but it is the styles listed above that are most often used when decorating one-room apartments in order to save space and create a cozy atmosphere.

Color and style of a one-room apartment of 33 sq. m

It is worth understanding that not every style can be implemented in a limited space. Pretentious baroque, for example, will not find a place for itself. Yes, and classic interiors will hardly fit into 33 square meters. meters. So which style should you prefer?

Designers recommend choosing something less strict and decorative. Minimalism, Scandinavian style, fusion or loft are ideal for creating a practical and stylish interior.

It is better to give preference to light and dim colors: white, beige, gray, silver, sky blue, pearl, etc. All of them visually enlarge the space, erasing boundaries and moving walls away. But you shouldn’t build the entire interior exclusively in this palette - it may seem too cold and “empty”. Add a few bright accents, which need to be selected for a specific style.

Scandinavian style

Scandi is truly an ideal option for a small room. It is characterized by light colors in decoration and furniture, a lot of naturalness, and comfort is created with the help of textiles and a small amount of decor, so the space will look visually spacious, but comfortable.

Minimalism

If you think that it is impossible to maintain minimalism in a small space, we hasten to dissuade you. To do this, it is enough to think through closed storage systems so as not to clutter open surfaces with various little things. A simple finish, a minimum of decor and a lot of light will help make the space visually larger.

Modern classic

It’s really better to abandon the traditional palace classics; a small space will not benefit from this. But a modern interpretation of the style will come in handy; it’s enough to think through the details. For example, choose moldings for wall decoration, install a sofa with rounded armrests and add shine with the help of fittings and accessories.

Loft

Loft was conceived as a style for large spaces with high ceilings and windows. But today designers use its elements in small-sized ones. Take note - just make a few brick walls, choose furniture in a brutal style, and the apartment can already be considered decorated in a loft aesthetic.

Interior of functional areas

To ensure maximum comfort, you should create a thoughtful and stylish design for every corner in the apartment.

Kitchen

In a small kitchen, you should not install bulky dark-colored furniture. To save usable space, it is better to abandon a rough rectangular or square dining table. It can be replaced with a compact oval model with rounded chairs, a bar counter, or a window sill can be converted into it.

Light ceiling and wall decoration will help to visually enlarge the room. Wood shades are suitable for flooring. Such a monotonous design will be perfectly complemented by bright accents, for example, in the form of a bright kitchen apron. The window will be advantageously decorated with light translucent curtains.

The photo shows the design of a combined kitchen-living room in the interior of a Euro-room apartment of 36 sq. m.

Living and relaxation area

In a living room with medium dimensions, it is appropriate to use universal white, beige or gray shades in combination with other tones. Laminate boards or parquet are used as flooring, giving the interior a homely feel. The walls are covered with wallpaper or other plain covering with a faint pattern.

To furnish the room, choose only the most necessary furniture, in the form of a sofa, coffee table and various storage systems. A rational solution is represented by corner structures that effectively use inactive space and preserve space for movement in the room.

In the photo there is a relaxation area with a compact sofa and a coffee table in light colors, in a two-room apartment of 36 square meters. m.

Children's

For a more ergonomic design, the children's room is equipped with a loft bed with a desk on the lower tier. For a family with two children, installing a two-tier structure is suitable. Beds equipped with drawers and a wardrobe built into a niche will help save useful square meters.

In a one-room apartment, it is better to separate the child’s corner with lightweight partitions or decorative curtains to create high-quality ventilation of the space. This area should be equipped with proper lighting, in the form of wall sconces and table lamps for the workplace, backlighting or a dim night light for the sleeping area.

The photo shows the design of a small-sized nursery for a girl in a two-room apartment, 36 square meters.

Bedroom

Built-in furniture will be especially appropriate in the design of a small bedroom. A rather interesting idea for placing things would be open racks or hangers under the ceiling. If there is a retractable or lifting mechanism for the bed, the storage system is equipped inside it. Shelves and drawers are sometimes placed at the headboard.

An excellent solution for a separate sleeping area in a one-room apartment or studio would be a podium or niche in which you can fully or partially install a bed. To separate the space, the recess is decorated with curtains or sliding partitions.

Workplace

A practical and ergonomic solution for a workplace is its location as an extension of the window sill or arrangement on the balcony. This option not only saves space and has a stylish look, but also provides comfortable working conditions. In the evening, this area should have high-quality lighting; spotlights and a table lamp will help with this.

Bathroom and toilet

In a combined bathroom, to free up additional space, a bathtub can easily be replaced by a shower stall. This way you can place a washing machine or other necessary items in the room. To maximize space savings, it is better to use tall narrow cabinets, shelves, and use light colors, glass and mirror surfaces in the decoration.

The photo shows the interior of a combined bathroom, made in white and beige tones in the design of an apartment of 36 sq. m.

Lighting, decoration, textiles

Since several zones fit into one room, one ceiling chandelier is abandoned in favor of a number of lamps located above each of the areas. A kitchen is usually deprived of natural lighting, so it must be more than compensated for with artificial lighting. Decorative, diffused light will be a stylish touch. Its sources are located around the perimeter of the room and in the area of accent zones. Textiles are an important component of any interior. It is used in decoration and upholstery. The area adjacent to the kitchen area should not be decorated with fabrics, as they will quickly become saturated with unpleasant odors. The decor is selected in accordance with the style. In minimalism, they make do with a couple of vases. The marine style uses thematic elements of ship equipment. High-tech makes household appliances the main decoration of the room. In Art Nouveau they use figurines, vases, boxes, the craving for which was inherited from the classic style. Provence is not complete without colorful pillows, soft homemade rugs, plates on stands and vases with fresh flowers. Don't forget about wall decor. They are decorated with panels, paintings, photographs. As an option, you can cover the accent area with photo wallpaper, the image on which will add perspective to the room. It is better not to get carried away with small decor, as it greatly clutters the space. Use every available space wisely. The main decoration of the studio should be the interior itself. Don’t forget about indoor plants - green spots in the design composition that will add “life” and rich colors to it.

Two-room apartment from a tiny one-room apartment

The designer Polina Anikeeva had a difficult task - to make two separate spaces out of an elongated room of 13.5 sq.m. All that was in it before the alteration were two small windows, broken walls, two large niches and two ledges.

The color scheme helped to visually enlarge the windows: the window openings and partitions were painted white, and curtains were abandoned. The narrow room was divided by two IKEA wardrobes, so there was a bedroom, a living room and two places to store clothes. The zones were divided by different colors.

Furniture for small apartments

Limited space forces people to come up with the most incredible ways to increase it. Conventional transformable sofas are far from the limit of human imagination. The bed can, for example, be hidden in a closet or made liftable by attaching it to the ceiling.

Transformable tables are popular, allowing you to turn a small coffee table into a large dining table in a few seconds. But it is worth considering the fact that such a table will require chairs. However, they can be foldable. You can store such chairs both on the balcony and in the closet.

When purchasing cabinets for a small apartment, give preference to deep and large ones. One large closet will hold more things than two small ones. If there is a niche in the apartment, we recommend turning it into a wardrobe or even a dressing room.

Pay attention to poufs. These inconspicuous, but very useful interior elements perform two functions at once: they provide you with additional seating and allow you to put away small things. In the pouf you can store control panels for all devices, chargers for phones and laptops, blankets and other things that should be regularly at hand.

A modern solution for a small apartment is to install hanging shelves that will help increase the usable area. They can be used to store not only all sorts of small items, but even seasonal clothes and shoes. To do this, you just need to pick up a few stylish colored boxes.

Space optimization techniques

Owners of luxury apartments with an area of hundreds of square meters are limited when solving design problems solely by the limits of their creative imagination and financial capabilities. Those who have a one-room apartment have to give up many ideas they like due to the impossibility of their real implementation. However, successful designers prove that some ideas can be realized. The photos posted show that they coped with the task. To do this you need to use the following techniques:

Major redevelopment. Today, to organize a single living space, the so-called studio, an operation is necessary.

Transformable and mobile interior elements. For a one-room apartment, sliding partitions that act as walls are perfect. 34 sq. m sufficient area for temporary separation of part of the area. A good idea might be to use partitions on wheels that move to any desired place, or curtains.

Visual zoning. Small usable area of the apartment is 34 sq. m can be divided into thematic areas using podiums, decorative elements on the walls and ceilings. One of the ways to visually separate a one-room apartment is to work with light. Spot and directional lamps, when turned on, radically change the space of the room. It is enough to look at a photo of the same area with the light sources working and turned off.

Color solution. Preference should be given to light colors. You should experiment with the stripes and size of the pattern or trust the experience of a professional. There are nuances here that some experienced designers don’t even know.

The successful solutions shown in the photo will fit into the existing interior only if the dimensions and configuration of the room are completely identical. When designing, the specialist takes into account the proportions of the room, color, and texture. The balance of the characteristics of each component gives the total desired effect.

Design of a one-room apartment 33 sq.m.: photo

One-room apartment 44 square meters converted into two-room apartment

Designer Anna Krutova designed this apartment for herself and her husband. The owners demolished the existing walls and erected new ones, gaining two rooms. Only the wet areas were left in place, a loggia was added, and part of the kitchen was converted into a bedroom.

The living room contains everything you need: an office, a dining room, a TV on a bracket and a sofa. The walls are painted white to optically expand the space. The kitchen is in a niche, but thanks to the sunny side and the large window it does not seem dark.

Khrushchev apartment with separate bedroom

The area of this apartment, which has turned from a one-room apartment to a two-room apartment, is only 34 square meters. The authors of the project are the designer Buro Brainstorm. The main advantage of this Khrushchev apartment is its corner location, thanks to which it was possible to arrange a living room, bedroom and wardrobe in the residential part. Light from three windows floods into every area.

To legitimize the redevelopment, the gasified kitchen was separated by a retractable partition on rails with doors from the wardrobe. The TV was mounted on a swivel bracket so that it could be watched from anywhere in the kitchen-living room. In the bedroom, space was allocated for a 90 cm deep wardrobe with a mirrored front.

Two-room apartment with an artificial window

The Moscow apartment with an area of 53 square meters initially had an open plan. A young family with a four-year-old child settled here. The parents wanted the baby to have his own space, but they also wanted their own bedroom to be isolated. Designer Aya Lisova was able to turn a one-room apartment into a two-room apartment, dividing the space into a kitchen-living room, a children's room (14 sq.m.) and a bedroom (9 sq.m.).

A partition with a frosted glass window 2x2.5 meters was erected between the bedroom and the nursery. This way, natural daylight enters the room, and one of the doors opens for ventilation. Due to the insulated loggia and the installation of transparent doors, it was possible to expand the kitchen and create an additional place for relaxation.

Layout of a one-room apartment with a niche

Popular planning options.

Large niche

Quite often, a large recess is found in the schemes of one-room apartments, such as Brezhnevka, which have an old layout or in Khrushchev-era panel houses.

Narrow niche

If you properly furnish this recess with compact and functional furniture, then even such a very small and narrow space can be turned into a cozy corner and form an original accent in the design of a one-room apartment.

Niche with window

A recess with one or two windows is the best interior option, which not only has a beautiful view, but also allows you to bring maximum natural light into the space, which is especially appropriate when equipping an alcove with a seating area.

The photo shows the design of a one-room apartment with a sleeping place placed in a recess with a window.

Room with balcony

Having a balcony is a significant bonus that can be put to good use. For example, a loggia that is insulated and equipped with light can become a work office, a stylish lounge area with a pair of comfortable armchairs, or a wonderful separate place for a podium with a bed.

Irregularly shaped room

This room may have rounded walls, obtuse and sharp corners, non-standard openings, for example, in the form of an arch, or have any other configuration that differs from the usual rectangular shape. This plan can be corrected by installing and building up the walls, with the help of which various recesses are created that visually make the appearance of the room more correct.

Pros and cons of a small area

The disadvantages of a small one-room apartment are obvious:

  • lack of space;
  • the inability to fully implement the stylistic solution you like (for example, neoclassicism, which requires large areas);
  • difficulty in storing things.
  • But small apartments also have their advantages:

    • low utility bills;
    • spending a minimum amount of time on cleaning;
    • cozy atmosphere.

With proper design, the living space of a small one-room apartment can be expanded not only visually, but also actually, and then there will be a place for all the necessary things and a cozy corner for every member of the household.

Design options for different rooms in an apartment of 33 sq m

Modern trends make it possible to create a multifunctional and stylish design for a one-room apartment of 33 sq. m. Below are variations of interior design in various rooms.

    Bathroom

In a small apartment, the bathroom is not pleased with its size. But competent bathroom interior design will expand the space not only visually, thanks to well-chosen color tones, large tiles and lighting, but also in reality. It is enough to move the partitions a little - and there will immediately be room for a washing machine and a spacious bath or shower. When choosing a toilet model, it is better to choose a wall-hung option - it is both stylish and saves space. For the same purpose, install an overhead bowl instead of a tulip sink. Underneath there is a cabinet where household chemicals are placed.

    Bathroom

In a one-room apartment, the bathroom is not very large. But even a small space can be made spacious and comfortable. It is more advisable to combine a toilet and shower in one room.

After combining adjacent rooms, it will be possible to install a washing machine

In this case, you can refuse a full bath and install a shower. Showers come in different sizes and shapes. Corner cabins look very stylish. If this option seems inconvenient, then you can put an acrylic corner bath, under which you can make a storage space, and decorate the outside with panels.

A corner cubicle with shower will fit even in a very small bathroom

To save space, you can install a wall-mounted sink, under which there will be space, for example, for a laundry basket or a sink complete with a cabinet. There are many options for wall panels with mirrors for storing towels and other hygiene items.

To visually expand the space, it is recommended to use light colors in the bathroom interior.

    Living room

Basically, the living room in a one-room apartment is not a separate room, but a room connected either to the bedroom or to the kitchen. Therefore, it is also small in area. How to arrange this place, creating maximum comfort for gatherings with friends or just relaxing after a working day? Very simple.

Cool tones contribute to the visual expansion of space, which is why the walls of this living room are painted gray

The best solution would be to purchase a sofa that folds out and has additional drawers for bed linen, blankets, pillows, and so on. Such a sofa can serve as a bed if the apartment does not have a bedroom, and also as a place where friends and family can relax if they stay overnight.

Interior of a modern one-room apartment with a practical sofa bed

To have space for a TV, books, and a game console, it is recommended to install shelving with numerous shelves and drawers. It really saves space. Racks are produced in various shapes, sizes and materials, and choosing the appropriate option for your interior is not difficult. The most popular glass racks are not conspicuous and do not weigh down the space, so they are an ideal option for an apartment with an area of 33 sq. m.

    Workplace

The most successful option for a work area is a combined loggia or a place near a window, where sometimes the window sill is converted into a desk or computer desk. This functional area is equipped with racks, drawers, shelves for various office supplies, documents and other things, and is also complemented with a table lamp or spotlights.

Partitions, furniture items or contrasting wall decoration are chosen as zoning so that the workplace looks like a separate sector of the room.

    Children's

For a family with a child, regardless of his age, it is necessary to arrange an entire room or a personal corner for study, play and relaxation. In the case of a one-room apartment or a studio apartment, choose the brightest and well-lit place in the room for the nursery. This area is equipped with a work desk, bed, cabinets, shelves and is separated using a screen, curtain or partition.

The photo shows a design option for a 35 sq.m. one-room apartment for a young family with a child.

    Bedroom

It seems that a minimal percentage of people will say that you can do without a bedroom in an apartment. Because the bedroom is a room where you can relax, lie on the bed, dream and get a good night's sleep. Even if the apartment is a one-room apartment of 33 square meters, this does not mean that you need to deprive yourself of the opportunity to equip your cozy and warm nest for a comfortable stay.

A cozy bedroom separated from the living room by a practical and functional shelving unit, installed in place of a bulky partition.

A huge variety of regular beds and transformable beds allows you to choose the very furniture that will be as comfortable as possible. A transformable bed is a good choice for a small bedroom. Such designs are a huge closet covering the entire wall, into which a sleeping bed is built. And with a slight movement of the hand, the sleeping place will be ready for use. Thanks to this, the bedroom can serve as a dressing room.

    Wardrobe

If you properly equip this space with shelves and storage systems, you can create an ideal dressing room, which can be separated from the room using sliding doors or curtains.

    Bedroom-living room

As mentioned above, in the case of a two-in-one room, the best solution would be to install a sofa bed or two sofas, which can be moved together with the help of additional structures to form one large double bed. Often the latest models come with a small coffee table and a pair of ottomans, inside of which there is also space for some things.

You can separate the sleeping area using a glass partition that will not obscure the space of the room. And privacy at night will be provided by a curtain on the ceiling cornice

If it is possible to connect such a room with a loggia, then you can make an area for a workplace, separating it with a partition or curtain.

    Hallway

Most often, in the hallway area there is an empty space where rarely anyone enters. This could be a storage room or a dressing room. If you remove the doors, the space can be taken up by a closet with shelves and drawers for clothes and shoes.

A niche in the wall can be equipped with a convenient furniture system with hangers and shelves

If the hallway has the smallest area and there is no room for chests of drawers or shelves, coat hooks come to the rescue. Hooks are selected to match the style of the interior.

Choice of style and color scheme

Modern styles are most often implemented within studio apartments. After all, housing is essentially a progressive option, which was not found at all half a century ago. By the way, it all started with the original idea of an American designer who created a house without interior walls. This prototype of the first studio still stands as an architectural monument. Designers liked the idea of erasing boundaries and expanding spaces so much that it gradually even began to displace traditional layout options. Among the stylistic trends it is worth noting minimalism, high-tech, Provence, loft, Scandinavian and, as a classic compromise, modern. These interior solutions are organically implemented on the square meters of the studio and emphasize its advantages. The above styles are characterized by the use of light, calm colors. It is based on white and grey. In the Scandinavian style, cool tones are added: blue, light blue, green. High-tech and minimalism have nothing against black in accent areas and decorative elements. Provence is not complete without bright spots of lilac, pink, and blue colors. Loft uses brown and brown-red (brick) shades in its decoration. Art Nouveau gives preference to coffee colors.

Owners of studio apartments will have to come to terms with the fact that dark colors are not suitable for their homes. They can play as accents and appear in decorative surfaces, but will never act as a base. Otherwise, you will end up with an uncomfortable, cramped room, the walls and furnishings of which will visually put pressure on your family.

    Kitchen Design

Light shades prevail in kitchen design. Facades with an ombre effect, that is, color gradation, will look stylish. For example, the bottom has a rich chocolate hue, gradually turning into coffee with milk closer to the tabletop level. The top is decorated in “creamy” tones of white. The surface of the facades should be chosen glossy, with a varnished sheen. Reflective elements will visually enlarge a small space. It is not recommended to use closed wall shelves above eye level in small kitchens. They will “crush” with their massiveness, so it is better not to equip storage areas with doors. You should definitely take care of the lighting of the work area. The apron can be decorated using a mosaic method from small ceramic tiles or square pieces of plastic, glass, or mirrors. The dining area is located here. The table is often adjacent to the back of the sofa in the living room. This option will not require additional zone delimitation.

Don't forget the working triangle rule. The refrigerator, stove and sink should be nearby, and their location should make cooking as easy as possible. An L-shaped layout is suitable for cramped kitchens. In this case, the housewife will not have to “rush” between work areas. To wash a plate, just turn from the stove to the sink.

    Living room and bedroom design

As for the bedroom, it must be separated from the living area. The best option is to install a pass-through rack. To make it look airy and not squat, the shelves are “mounted” on long vertical beams that run from the ceiling to the floor. Another option is to install a curtain rod along the contour of the bed. Of course, a textile partition will not save you from noise, but it will completely protect you from the views of guests. To save space, you can use not a full double bed, but a folding sofa. A built-in wardrobe will complete the interior composition.

If the studio is not inhabited by a married couple, but, for example, by two girls, then the sleeping area will take up even less space. After all, you can buy a bunk bed, each “floor” of which will become a separate place to sleep.

    Hallway design

The hallway in studio apartments is small, with no room to expand. For this reason, it is equipped only with a hanger for outerwear, a bench or a pair of poufs for changing shoes and a traditional mirror. You can add a narrow cabinet to the furniture set. If there is no closet in the bedroom, then the dressing room is placed in the hallway, having previously left additional space for it. The facades are decorated in light colors, alternating them with mirror surfaces. Separately, it is worth considering additional spot lighting on the ceiling around the perimeter of the zone.

    Bathroom design

In bathrooms, preference is given to compact shower cabins. They allow you to save space and free up space for additional storage space for towels and household chemicals. If the budget allows, then a conventional toilet is abandoned in favor of a wall-hung option. It looks stylish, unusual and gives the room “lightness”. To ensure that the rest of the decor matches, modern solutions are also used when choosing a sink. It’s better to forget about traditional “tulips” and install a fashionable overhead “bowl”. At the bottom it will be complemented by a cabinet with shelves for storage. Light large tiles are used for decoration. The fewer seams, the wider the walls will become visually. But you should avoid large prints, as they will have the opposite effect.

Suitable design options for a 33 sq m studio

Many designers give preference to studio apartments, when the kitchen and living room are not separated by a wall, or the bedroom and kitchen are one whole. Such rooms do not have interior doors or walls, except to the bathroom. If the apartment has a balcony, you can connect it with the kitchen or bedroom, thereby increasing the area. This option helps to expand the space for additional furniture and choose a very modern interior design. In this article you can find many photos of the layouts of studio apartments with an area of 33 square meters.

Bright studio apartment in modern style

This project allows you to implement various design solutions. If the apartment has high enough ceilings, zoning the bedroom can be done using a podium where the bed and workplace will be located.

If a balcony is connected to a room, care should be taken to insulate the loggia to retain heat in the apartment during the cold season.

The insulated loggia can be used as a study

A few tricks to increase space

The main problem in arranging the interior of small apartments is the struggle for space. Our task is to create a beautiful and modern design without forgetting about functionality and comfort. When it comes to fighting for free space, pay attention to tricks that will help you make the most of every square meter and arrange it beautifully.

A cool range of colors helps to visually enlarge the space, so gray became the main color for the interior.

The main color is complemented by turquoise with the addition of a gray tone, and black has become an accent color and helps highlight individual items.

The interior is graphic and clear, it has its own character and laconic expressiveness.

    Decoration of the bathroom

For a small apartment of 33 sq.m. there is no point in making a separate bathroom - anyway, for one person or a couple it is not critical. The combined bathroom and toilet are decorated in a minimalist style - compact plumbing fixtures with a predominance of rectangular shapes and a narrow mirror are used.

If there is space left under the sink for a washing machine, then it should be of very modest dimensions, with side loading and a vibration suppression function. Many people place the boiler in a niche above the toilet.

To decorate the bathroom, it is recommended to use monochromatic light colors, combining basic white with one or two pastel, natural or rich shades.

    Eurodvushka from one-room apartment

An apartment of 45 square meters, designed for a kitchen and a room, has been transformed from a concrete box into a comfortable space with a kitchen-living room, a bedroom and a thoughtful storage system. Designer Victoria Vlasova managed to turn a one-room apartment into a two-room apartment in just 4 months, including approval from the BTI.

Where the kitchen used to be located, a bedroom was planned, and the cooking space itself was arranged in the living room, adding part of the hallway. The supporting structure between the rooms remained intact. To make the narrow space seem wider, the designer used several techniques at once:

    • Installed built-in storage systems up to the ceiling.
    • I hung a wide mirror in the kitchen-living room, reflecting the space and increasing natural light.
    • I used a monochromatic finish.
    • Installed sliding doors instead of swing doors.

    Room decoration

When arranging an apartment, finishing requires special attention. Various materials are used for this, but complex structures that take up useful space and are not functional should not be used. Finishing is carried out after careful planning and development of a design project. The color scheme of the interior, the type of surfaces used, and furniture are pre-selected.

    Ceiling

The high ceiling in the apartment allows you to create original multi-level structures. This finish is appropriate in any interior style. Stretch ceilings are also suitable, and the glossy finish is especially impressive. The light-colored background on which the lighting sources are placed also looks original.

An unusual combination makes the atmosphere in the apartment stylish and cozy

There may be light patterns on the ceiling. This type of decoration allows you to avoid using complex elements in the interior.

Light-colored patterns are optimal for small spaces

    Walls

It is easy to decorate walls using various materials. Decorative plaster is suitable for a Provence style interior, and wallpaper is universal. Photo wallpaper or a combination of contrasting coatings help zone the space. For example, the wall behind the sofa should be covered with dark wallpaper, and the rest of the space should be decorated with light wallpaper.

Vertical stripes on the wallpaper visually “raise” the ceiling

It is best to decorate the work area in the kitchen with ceramic tiles. You should not use panels or plasterboard structures in a hallway or room. This is due to the fact that such structures occupy useful space.

    Flooring

The floor covering in any apartment should be comfortable, practical and durable. Laminate and linoleum are popular options, and ceramic tiles are often used in the kitchen. The color of the material is selected depending on the style of the interior. For furnishings in light colors, you should not use very dark flooring. At the same time, you can zone the space using a coating of contrasting shades.

A light carpet looks impressive on a dark floor covering

    Ceiling

Ceilings made of plasterboard look original. However, the structure will inevitably “eat” a couple of centimeters, which is unacceptable in conditions of a meter-long “hunger”. Therefore, before you go to the hardware store for supplies of plasterboard sheets and metal slats, evaluate the height of the ceiling “before” installation and “after”. Panel options where the main material is plastic look stylish and expensive. It would seem that PVC a priori cannot look expensive. In fact, plastic is sometimes difficult to distinguish from the real surface it imitates. If you additionally decorate it with point light sources, then the luxurious ceiling will fit even into a loft or neoclassical style. In simpler versions, the top of the room is plastered or painted. Also, we must not forget about stretch ceilings, which have proven their strength even when flooded by neighbors above. It is not recommended to use canvases with bright patterns in studios. A light, glossy reflective surface will visually raise the ceiling another couple of centimeters.

    Kitchen Design

The kitchen in the studio interior is small: a refrigerator, a domino stove, a work surface and a sink. This is quite enough, since the owner of the house does not really like to cook, and more often dines outside the apartment. But you can sit at the table with a large group - it can be expanded if necessary. Both walls of the kitchen are lined with white hog tiles, which creates an original decorative effect.

    Furniture in the living room

    Furniture in the living room

. When creating an interior, be sure to use bright accents. In this living room, designed in a neoclassical style, a blue armchair does an excellent job as a color accent, quite a comfortable accent, by the way. What other furniture should be in the living room?

    • Armchair.
It is not only an aesthetic component. Therefore, when choosing, be guided not only by what is beautiful/not beautiful, but also by convenience. So, if you like to sit in a chair, wrapped in a blanket and enjoy a book, then choose at least 90x90 cm. In order to sit comfortably and watch TV, a seat size of 80x80 cm is sufficient.
    • TV stand.
Even if the TV is hanging on the wall, a cabinet under it will not be superfluous. At the same time, modern models are not as massive as before, because they do not need to store either a dozen video tapes or hundreds of discs.
    • Coffee table.
There is often no place for it in the living room, but today we are talking about a room with an area of 30 square meters, so there will definitely be a few square centimeters for a good coffee table. Such a piece of furniture, in our opinion, adds coziness and creates an amazing atmosphere. By the way, you can buy not a miniature exhibit, but one that easily turns into a spacious table for receiving guests. Just keep in mind that you will have to look hard for such a model, and it costs accordingly.
    • Side tables.
Serves as an alternative or addition to the coffee table. Its advantage is its mobility and small size, and most importantly, today stores offer models that can easily become the main art object in the living room.
    • Rack.
Simply must be in the spacious living room. For what? You can place original decorative items on it or use it as an original partition for zoning space.
    • Additional storage cabinet.
We have 3 dozen square meters, so you don’t need to choose between a massive sofa and a spacious storage system, because you can install both.:) Carefully study the room plan, you will definitely find a suitable place for the closet.
    • Fireplace.
We are, of course, talking about an electric fireplace, because organizing a traditional one in an apartment is quite difficult. Today on the market there are models created in different styles, as well as with an impressive list of additional options. Thus, options are available with a humidifier function and with heating. Remember: the fireplace should fit the size of the room - in a spacious living room the fireplace should be massive, and vice versa.

    Colors

Beige color in the design of a 30-square living room

It is impossible to say unequivocally what colors are preferable for decorating a living room, just as it is impossible to answer the question: “Should the living room be light or, conversely, dark?” Each living room is beautiful in its own way, but today we still want to talk about the advantages of bright interiors.

Beige visually increases the area of the room.

Light colors, in particular beige, harmonize perfectly with almost all tones. Therefore, you can add bright details without fear.

Light warm shades create a cozy atmosphere.

This palette is conducive to relaxation and does not get boring.

Beige color in the living room

. Beige color is multifaceted. For a classic living room, use warm shades; for a modern-style living room, use cool shades with a grayish tint.

Gray color in the interior of the living room 30 meters

Gray color in the living room

. In our opinion, there is no more calm and neutral color than gray.

If black is used incorrectly in design, there is a risk that the living room will turn out to be too gloomy. In addition, this color absorbs light. Too much white is the other extreme. This interior looks faceless and uninteresting. Gray is the golden mean, as they say. It is universal, harmonizes perfectly with many colors, and does not get boring.

    Air conditioner

in the living room of a 30-meter room

The main rule when installing an air conditioner is that cold air flows should not be directed at people. But keep in mind that the farther the indoor unit of the air conditioner is located from the window, the more difficult its installation will be, and, therefore, more expensive.

Agree, the indoor unit of the air conditioner does not look very attractive. You can try to disguise it somehow, but we believe that if the block is white, then it is not at all necessary to do this - it is not particularly striking anyway, especially against the background of light walls.

You can install an air conditioner in the living room anywhere, but there are 3 most common:

    1. Above the front door. Perhaps the ideal option.

    2. Near the window. This arrangement is suitable if you want to save on installing equipment, because... you don't have to knock down the wall.

    3. Above the sofa. We do not recommend this arrangement, because cooled air will blow on people sitting on the sofa.

Correct opening of the door in the living room

    In or out?

Opening the door in the living room

. To prevent the door in the living room from attracting unnecessary attention, we recommend installing an invisible door. And if it is also covered in the color of the walls, then it will be difficult to find :)

What opening for the door to the living room (inward or outward) is considered optimal? There is no correct answer. It is necessary to proceed from the layout of the room and the arrangement of furniture. The only rule is that the door must open and close freely. If it limits access to the closet/dressing room, which is often installed in the living room, then perhaps it makes sense to choose an accordion instead of a hinged one or, in extreme cases, move the doorway a little.

    Several door layouts:

    1. There seems to be no downside to this arrangement. The door does not block the corridor or impede passage to the living room. Nevertheless, there is a drawback - when open, if stoppers are not installed, it touches the cabinet facades.

    2. Acceptable, but not as good as the previous option. With this opening, the door blocks the passage to the living room and also takes up a lot of space. Instead of this, we recommend installing a folding door.

    3. An existing, but not at all successful option, especially if the corridor area is small. What to do? Install an accordion or sliding door.

    4. The location of the door is quite convenient, both taking into account the passage into the room and from the point of view of fire safety.

    Decor

in the interior of the living room 30 square meters

    Living room decoration

. To make the picture harmonious, all the elements of the living room must be combined with each other, we mean the fronts of the cabinets, the patterns of the carpet, the print on the wallpaper, and even lamps, vases and paintings.

    Decor

. When it comes to decor, we don't just mean vases, candles and paintings. This concept covers textiles, indoor plants, and even pillows on the sofa. Therefore, approach his choice with all responsibility.

    Textile

. To prevent the interior of the living room from causing dissonance, all textile elements of the living room should be combined in color and style - curtains, pillowcases on sofa cushions, and a blanket.

    Accessories

. The above-mentioned rule about a single style and color palette also applies to small decorative items, such as vases, figurines, souvenirs, etc. Don’t forget – accessories only serve as accents, so don’t overdo it.

    Plants

. Eco is in fashion, which means there should be live plants in the living room. But not small ones in pots on the windowsill, but massive ones (at least 50 cm) near the sofa/TV or desktop.

    Paintings, photos, posters

. Increasingly, paintings/photos in frames/posters are considered as art objects. Therefore, they need to be chosen consciously. So, still lifes and landscapes are suitable for a classic interior, posters and large paintings are appropriate in modern apartments, but the best place for compositions from several different-sized frames is a loft-style living room

. Do you want to bring a touch of classicism to your living room interior? Use moldings!

    Moldings

. A mandatory attribute of a living room in a classic style is moldings. In construction stores you can find wooden, polyurethane, plastic and foam. They differ in both width and shape. Moldings are used not just to decorate walls, but also for visual play with the size and shape of space, zoning.

    Skirting boards

. There are no strict rules for the selection and installation of skirting boards. However, in our opinion, wide and plain ones look more impressive, so choose those that are wider than 100 mm. And one more thing - the baseboards should be combined with the style of the living room.

    Cornices

.:) Perhaps the perfect cornice exists, but it is difficult to find. Therefore, we recommend installing one that is not visible. You can hide it behind the ceiling plinth or ceiling panels. This design will fit into any interior.
