Design of a living room combined with a bedroom 20 sq m photo

The design of a room of 20 square meters of bedroom and living room together is a great idea that can be very comfortable and functional. To make a space truly comfortable, you need to approach its planning with full responsibility.

Owners of small houses and apartments have to resort to certain tricks to distribute space more intelligently.

Advantages and disadvantages of the living room-bedroom

To realize the idea of combining a bedroom and a living room, you need to take into account many different nuances, since it is not as simple as it seems at first glance. Let's consider the advantages and disadvantages of such a design solution. Let's start with the pros:

  • the layout is modern and unusual;
  • using the space of a small apartment is the most rational;
  • such a space turns out to be very functional;

Only in a room of this size can you optimally combine the living room and bedroom without losing comfort or overloading the room with things.
But there are also some disadvantages. If one person is sleeping, then most likely he will be disturbed by the light on in the living area and the actions of another person there. However, experts say that with proper planning and good implementation of the idea, this nuance can be avoided.

Design of a living room-bedroom with an area of 20 square meters. m should be thoughtful.

Selection of furniture

Now on the Internet you can find many programs for creating the future interior of a room, with all the necessary measurements and shapes.

In a room of 20 meters of large-sized furniture, everything should not be compact and multifunctional. Transformers “rescue” here. Preferable elements are those that stand along the artificial partition.

In a modern living room-bedroom you can install:

  • large bed;
  • if necessary, a sofa; straight and angled models are suitable for functionality;
  • 1-2 bedside tables;
  • table, preferably a transformer;
  • closet;
  • TV:
  • hanging shelves.

The smaller the standard set, the better; even one extra detail can create a feeling of crampedness and clutter.

Conditional zoning and design of a living room-bedroom 20 sq.m.

As a rule, layouts where the bedroom and living room are combined do not have clear zoning boundaries. If one person lives in the apartment, then this fact will not cause inconvenience for him, but if a family of two or more people lives in the apartment, then it is necessary to delimit the space. To do this, there are different ways of conditionally zoning a room into a bedroom and a living room of 20 sq. m.

Experienced designers argue that any room that will perform more than one function must be zoned, dividing the room into two separate zones.

  • Furniture transformer. It is important to think through such an arrangement so that its use is convenient and does not interfere with movement. Such products can serve as a wardrobe and, if necessary, transform into a sleeping place.

The most popular model is the sofa bed.

  • You can delimit the space by erecting a podium on which the bed will be located. If you install lighting in the steps of the podium, you will achieve the visual effect of increasing the space.

Even though the parts of the room serve different functions, they should fit together - and with the house itself.

  • You can solve two problems at once - zoning and visually enlarging a room - with the help of a correctly selected palette. It is important to consider that the colors in different zones should not be radically different from each other and should not contrast sharply.

Let this be shades that combine with each other.

  • Proper lighting plays an important role in delineating space. In the sleeping area you can install softer and subdued lighting, and in the living room you can install brighter light sources. In this case, there may be no partitions or divisions between the living room and the bedroom.

The visual effect of zoning will be provided by light.

  • A good technique is zoning with furniture. For example, the headboard of a bed can serve as a delimiter between two parts of space.

When choosing a zoning method, of which there are many, it is necessary to take into account the layout, style and free space.

Choosing a room style

Even before the start of repairs and the purchase of finishing materials, the owner decides on the style of the living room-bedroom. When purchasing, flooring and wall covering materials and colors are selected.

There are many styles, the choice directly depends on the preferences of the owner and his lifestyle.

Classic. The choice of conservative, calm personalities. All colors are neutral, lines are precise, patterns and designs are restrained. Finishing materials, decor, everything natural: stone, linen, wood. Gold embroidery can be applied to textiles. All furniture is made of noble wood.

When planning your design, try to do everything in the same style

Most styles are suitable for living room bedroom

Modern. For people who prefer home comfort, tranquility and peace. This style is characterized by figurines, floor lamps, carpet, and indoor plants on the shelves. The color scheme is neutral and warm. Laminate is laid on the floor, the ceiling is finished with plaster and painted.

Loft. The most current style today. The main task of the designer is to create a competent combination of a rough brick wall and upholstered furniture. You need as much free space as possible, only furniture that is really necessary. Primary colors: white, gray, brown, in the form of bright spots there can be burgundy, orange. All equipment is modern, furniture elements of the most unusual and bizarre shapes.

The combination of dark and light shades will harmoniously match the interior

High tech. The choice of ardent minimalists and pedants. In this case, cold steel shades, glass and metal predominate. The sleeping area occupies a minimum number of meters, there is enough bed and space for things. The living room has a sofa, an ultra-modern TV with a stereo system, and a coffee table if necessary.

Country. A corner of rustic simplicity amid the bustle of the city. All furniture is made of wood, textiles with a checkered pattern, ceramic products can be used for decoration. A soft, natural-colored carpet is placed on the floor.

Eco style. A distinctive feature is the use of only natural materials. The floor is decorated with wood, the walls with panels or plaster. Natural shades are preferable in the color scheme: green, beige, brown, yellow. Pots with plants can be distributed around the perimeter.

Design ideas for decorating a bedroom living room

Many people wonder how they can arrange a 20 m2 room by combining a bedroom and a living room? Experts have already come up with many different methods. Before you start planning such a space in your apartment or house, you can familiarize yourself with various ready-made design solutions to understand how a bedroom and living room can be arranged in one room on an area of 20 square meters in the photo.

It is better to decorate the sleeping area in calm colors, and the guest area in sharper colors.

Rectangular living room

The considerable area of this rectangular living room allowed the designers to use various techniques. The arrangement of furniture here is quite traditional: there is a velor sofa with gray upholstery against one wall, a flat-screen TV on a bracket opposite, and between them there is a low round glass coffee table on metal legs.

For private places, it is recommended to use a couple of small armchairs by the window. The layout here is as open as possible. There is almost no storage space here, with the exception of a hanging cabinet below the TV, which means the room fully meets its purpose - to receive guests.

Author of the project INNA ARBUA

The design of the room organically uses traditional and modern elements. The first include the presence of vases (possibly brought from other countries) on the coffee table and cabinet top, parquet on the floor, paintings and framed designs on the walls using baseboards. However, the designer chandelier, the lamp on the walls and the current “aged” print of the carpet make us doubt the excessive traditionalism of the overall style.

In general, the interior turned out to be very soft, not overloaded, intelligent and clean.

Furniture in the living room combined with the bedroom

In order not to purchase additional items, but at the same time zone the space, you can carefully consider the arrangement of furniture in such a room. For example, you can install bookcases or shelving not parallel to the wall, but perpendicularly. You can visually highlight the living room area using single furniture compositions from several items: sofas, chairs, armchairs.

You can choose one color, but in different shades, or play with contrasting but compatible colors.

General rules for ergonomic placement of furniture in the bedroom

In order to organically fit everything you need into the room and at the same time make being in the space comfortable and convenient, you need to adhere to certain rules in the arrangement of furniture.

The living room combined with the bedroom can be different. Giving preference to color zoning, it is important to decide which style to give preference to.

  1. The distance from the wall to the bed should be at least 70 cm. This is necessary for convenience in making the bed, changing linen and going to bed.
  2. The distance from the piece of furniture whose doors open to other elements of the interior should be sufficient for their use. When the doors are open, there should be a distance of approximately 30 cm between them and another piece of furniture.
  3. When installing furniture and light sources, you need to ensure that large items do not block the light from the lamps.

Furniture and decorative items should not clutter the rooms; there should be plenty of free space.

Kitchen-living room with partition

The design of a 20-meter living room kitchen required connecting and delimiting zones. Zoning was done using vertical beams, through which you can see what is happening in both zones, but at the same time they are a physical fence. The kitchen area is as simple as possible.

White and brown colors were chosen for finishing the facades. Various shades of brown were also used to create a geometric pattern on the kitchen backsplash. A tiny table in the kitchen is a place where you can relax while cooking. The lighting is represented by movable spots on black rails and a small chandelier above the table.

The same colors – chocolate brown and white – were used for the living area. The hanging cabinets are arranged in such a way that they form a niche in which a flat-screen TV is placed. A steel-colored sofa, bright yellow pillows and a round table with metal legs are all you need to relax in the evenings. Not without a chandelier. Here it is modern, in the form of black lampshades located around the circumference. For reading and hobbies, you can include a small designer pendant chandelier suspended over the corner of the sofa.

Color design: bedroom combined with living room 20 sq.m. m

When choosing a color scheme, it is important to focus on your personal preferences and the characteristics of the room. The color design in the bedroom should not be bright and irritating, but on the contrary, it should calm the nervous system. Any pastel colors are suitable for this purpose, and blue, purple or calm green will also fit well.

The minimum of items is compensated by the maximum function.

You should not choose yellow and red colors, they only excite the nervous system, which is not at all advisable before bed. They can be used to create small accents in decorating a space.

This style is typical for studios and workshop rooms; it is an interesting design for a bedroom-living room.

In a modern style. Photo

The design here was based on broken geometric lines. This print is repeated on two opposite walls. If on the main wall with the TV it is made in the form of a texture of beams painted a single white color, then on part of the other wall this pattern creates a real stained glass window in a niche. The glare from white, yellow and brown glass creates a festive mood. The wall itself is neutral, with a wood print. The gray upholstery of the sofa slightly calms the play of colors.

20 meter room with brown ceiling

Hidden in the designer coffee table were 3 items of different sizes. All of them are made of transparent plastic with a green tint.

A private area is located immediately at the entrance. A bar counter and a pair of high chairs, also relevant for the living room, are exactly what you need for personal conversations. The arrangement of the shelves behind the bar counter also follows the broken lines, and therefore the whole room looks like a single, harmonious whole.

Bedroom-living room design 20 squares in minimalist style

The name of the style speaks for itself. Space needs to be freed up using a minimum of items. The main characteristics of this stylistic direction are simple shapes, straight lines and a predominance of geometric shapes.

This style involves a minimum of objects and maximum space.

Despite the minimal set of furniture, the functionality of the items is maximum. One product performs several functions at once. The room should not look bulky and cluttered; there should always be plenty of free space in the room. The same applies to light, it is important not to overdo it with the number of light sources, but also to make sure there are enough of them.

There shouldn’t be too much light either, but there shouldn’t be too little of it either.

Additional Information! The color scheme in such an interior should also be minimalistic. One main color is used, which can be complemented by a couple of contrasting accents.

Classic style with fireplace

The central part of the living room is dedicated to leisurely gatherings with friends and family. There is enough space for a large group on two large sofas.

If you want to have a cup of hot drink, you can use a low coffee table with an additional tabletop as a serving table. But the main accent of the room is the fireplace in the far corner. It not only attracts attention, but is also able to relax a person after a working day. A pair of armchairs can be used for conversations near the fireplace, or, if necessary, moved closer to the coffee table and join the general company.

Everything in this room is done in beige tones. The designer did not add bright, rich prints, thereby giving the opportunity to take a closer look at the materials used. Rich velor jacquard on upholstered furniture, wool carpet, satin curtains and the finest tulle - you don’t often see this in a modern interior.

In general, the room will appeal to independent people who have already found themselves in life and do not strive to set records, but simply enjoy what they have.

Tips for decorating a bedroom-living room

  1. To understand what to strive for, you can focus on photos of ready-made examples of various interiors. The main thing is to select photographs of rooms that are similar in size and layout.
  2. If you want to combine two ideas that differ from each other in style, then you can take two illustrations and compare how they will look together. This way you can avoid tasteless combinations and inappropriate decor.
  3. It is necessary to plan the boundaries of the two zones in advance. What will occupy a larger area, what will be allocated less space.

It is better to paint the walls in solid colors; one of the walls can be left untreated.

The bedroom should reflect the character of its owner and show who owns the sleeping place. This can be done with the help of suitable furniture and additional decor. For example, a pull-out bed can be built under the podium for a computer desk. This is a great option for a teenage boy. Thus, during the day you will have a full-fledged work area, and at night the sleeping place will be pulled out.

If the height of the room allows, then you can move one zone onto the podium, thereby separating it from another zone.

Important! When delimiting space, it is important to make sure that casual visitors to the room feel comfortable, and the person relaxing in the sleeping area can relax.

If it is planned that an elderly person will live in the room, then there is definitely no need to choose retractable and folding structures.

The color scheme should be calm and restrained.

  1. The bed should be positioned so that light from the living room does not shine directly into your eyes.
  2. It is necessary to ensure that the bedroom-living room is equipped with a sufficient number of sources of artificial light, and there must also be natural light.
  3. It is necessary to leave free space for walking; the passages between various objects should not be too narrow.

It is important to consider that the furniture should not be bulky. Decorative elements are always thoughtful and compatible.

To visually increase the size of the space, you can use mirrors and glossy surfaces.

Zoning with a curtain

Separating the bedroom from the living room using a curtain is most common when planning with a niche, although nothing prevents you from making it in the middle of the room. The advantage of the curtain is complete privacy (except for sounds) of the sleeping area, as well as the ability to remove it with one movement of the hand.

Features of zoning a room into a hall and a nursery

When combining a living room with a children's room, you need to take into account the age of the child. For example, if this is a school-age child, then it is important to think about a work area where he can do his homework. For a younger child, you will need a play area. That is why in this situation the problem of zoning becomes even more relevant.

The selection of colors is very important when finishing.

Modern manufacturers offer many different ready-made designs that look beautiful and are very functional. They will help to divide the space into zones with different functions. You can also use different types of finishing materials, paints and color palettes for zoning.

Calm colors will look good with a pair of contrasting items. White color can visually expand a room.

Lighting is also important. There should be no bright light in the sleeping area, but in the study corner area the light should be a little brighter.

It is important to consider both the size of the room and the design of the house as a whole.

Lighting

The location of the lighting fixtures depends on the wishes of the owner. It is convenient if the recreation area is dominated by natural light, and the reception area is equipped with artificial light sources.

Lamps will help to visually divide the space - make the light bright in the living room, and dim and soft in the bedroom area. In this case, the central chandelier should not be huge; it is permissible to use wall sconces, floor lamps, and spotlights. For example, as in the photo:

To make a clearer distribution into zones, the ceiling can be decorated with LED strip, spotlights, and built-in lamps. This design looks especially good in tension structures.

Decor

When choosing the decorative design of a bedroom, you should take into account the chosen style and color scheme. However, despite this, some general solutions can be identified:

  • the emphasis should be on curtains with drapery and ties;
  • textiles on bedspreads and pillows must be original;
  • use a canopy.

An original vase with dried flowers or a beautiful lush bouquet of flowers will be an excellent addition to the bedroom.

The wall above the bed is most often used to place composition panels.

What colors are the most fashionable in 2020

Among the most fashionable shades this year are the following:

  • the combination of white and gray is almost a classic for modern style;
  • black and white, and in this case one of the shades should prevail over the other;
  • cool shades of Scandinavian style that will emphasize the seriousness of the work area and the tranquility of the relaxation area;
  • powdery pink color is a delicate shade that is more suitable for a romantic living room;
  • colors that contrast with each other, for example, you can mix cold and warm shades, but so that they are from the same range (use the same pink, since it can be both cold and warm);
  • khaki color is a bold option that is perhaps suitable for men or lively girls, but the main thing is that the entire interior is not filled only with this shade.

It is also fashionable to add yellow and orange shades to the interior in 2022, and you can use both muted colors and bolder ones.

Interior design

The opening with a door and a window, located between the living room and the loggia, should be decorated using curtains. In this case, various types of rolled or classic products are in demand.

  • Brick balcony - modern projects and recommendations on how to decorate a balcony with brick (175 photos)

  • Decorating a balcony with clapboards - detailed instructions on how to decorate a balcony quickly and beautifully (135 photos)

When using curtains for a living room connected to a balcony, you should take care of the appropriate length of the curtains. In the area of the door area, the length of the curtains to the floor looks great, and on the window openings - to the window sill.

If, when combining the loggia and the living room, the opening is completely removed, then there is no need to decorate it.

Design for partial dismantling of the opening

If the bottom of the window opening is not completely dismantled, this makes it possible to use the window sill as a bar counter or a stylish flower shelf. In addition, a beautifully designed shelf can act as a decorative element.

Both options will fit perfectly into the overall interior of the room. The two combined zones should be made in a similar stylistic direction. To do this, it is advisable to use the same finishing materials and decorative elements.

Bedroom + children's room on 20 square meters

Not everyone today has access to luxury multi-room apartments, which is why combining two bedrooms – a child’s and an adult’s – is a common case. This combination is especially important for owners of two-room apartments with one or more children. In this case, the hall or living room performs its direct functions, and the bedroom is used for rest and sleep for all family members. And in this case, proper zoning is necessary: dividing the bedroom into a children's and an adult part of the room.

Zones can be distinguished using partitions, curtains and furniture. An important issue is the selection of compact, but roomy and functional furniture. In order for the child to be able to engage in creative work in a calm atmosphere and prepare lessons in the future, it is recommended to place a children’s workspace in the bedroom with a table, chair, closet or shelves, and good lighting.

A large, cozy and functional bedroom is an excellent solution for any home or apartment. As a result of the effort and money spent on renovation and interior design of the bedroom, you will receive a favorite and comfortable room that will become a source of inspiration, vitality and the desire to conquer new heights!

Layout of a twenty-meter bedroom

The basis for a competent layout of the space of any bedroom is the principles of ergonomics and your preferences, taking into account the recommendations of designers and finishing craftsmen. And the main ultimate goal of the layout is a safe, comfortable, meaningful and ergonomic interior of a large bedroom.

To achieve this goal, it is important to pay attention to the following nuances: the dimensions and shape of the room, how many people will be accommodated in the room, the size of the furniture corresponding to the size of the bedroom, sufficient and comfortable artificial and natural lighting, the required amount of high-quality and safe furniture. It would be a good idea to plan the placement of natural light sources and artificial lighting systems.

Ways to divide a room

To divide a room into two zones, you can use various methods. Each apartment has several options. Rely on your own intuition and sense of style, and you will get a unique design for your bedroom-living room.

Separating the living room from the bedroom in one room of 20 sq.m using a shelving unit

Partitions

The first type of zone separation is partitions. Moreover, their choice is huge, and is often based on the imagination of the apartment owner or designer:

Partitions made of various materials. Wooden, glass, plasterboard. There is an option to combine the partition with the head of the bed. This way you will protect your sleeping space from prying eyes.

Zoning using a glass partition in the living room-bedroom 20 sq.m.

An original idea would be to have a fish aquarium inside a glass partition. Look at the photo examples and create your own unique way to divide the room.

Curtains

Curtains will allow you to delimit zones, but at the same time give the room a weightless effect. The advantage of this option is the ability to open the curtains during the day and combine the bedroom with the living room. And at night, drawn curtains will limit a separate intimate relaxation space.

Zoning with curtains in the living room-bedroom 20 sq.m.

Curtains are used both light and transparent, and thick. By choosing an opaque fabric, you will create a separate, isolated space.

Screens made of various materials

They are quite light and mobile, and do not visually overload the room. They not only serve as a partition, but are also an original decorative element.

Racks for books and clothes

A great option to divide zones and save space. The shelves can accommodate a lot of things.

Color Separation

It is very interesting to separate zones using a play of color. Different colors can be used:

  • when decorating walls,
  • when selecting furniture,
  • when choosing decorative elements.

Zoning the living room-bedroom using color

Important! The colors of the bedroom and living room should not be contrasting, they should only differ in shades of the same color.

For example, you can choose light beige shades for the bedroom, and dense beige for the living room. The transitions between colors won't be as noticeable, but it will be a great way to define both spaces.

An interesting solution is to highlight the bedroom or living room area with furniture and other items in original colors. For example, highlight everything related to the living room in bright burgundy colors. Burgundy carpet, reddish armchairs, chandelier in burgundy tones, table with burgundy legs. Complete the space with similar colored details.

Original color division of the living room-bedroom with an area of 20 sq.m.

And in the bedroom, use a pleasant pink, close in shade to the chosen color of the living room. The recreation area will not be as bright and will be separated from the guest area.

Height difference

Differences in floor height will add a special twist to the design of a living room combined with a bedroom of 20 square meters. m. Photos will clearly show the implementation of this idea. A bed or table with chairs for guests can be located on the podium.

Zoning using a high podium in the interior of a living room-bedroom of 20 sq.m.

An option for those who like unusual solutions is a pull-out bed, which hides in the podium during the day and pulls out at night.

Zoning with lighting

A design trick is to separate zones using lighting. This option is considered the simplest and most accessible. There is no need for complex repair work such as building partitions or painting walls; you just need to select and arrange the lamps correctly.

Zoning a living room-bedroom of 20 sq.m using lighting

For each zone, different brightness, direction of light, and location of lamps are used. Light can be either direct or reflected. They use pendant or floor lamps at the border of zones, light partitions, accents over certain interior objects. Photos of examples will help in this method of zoning space.
