Internal filling of kitchen cabinets - storage options and ideas

Corner drawers

Using corner drawers is the best option for “revitalizing” a kitchen corner. If you have 40-45 cm of free space on each side, you can install drawers in the corner of the kitchen in which it will be convenient to store small items, dishes, seasonings, small devices and other kitchen utensils. There may be several of them. Everything will depend on what you plan to store there. Thanks to their original shape, such boxes allow you to rationally use even the farthest part of the corner.

Additional kitchen accessories

It is advisable to have a separate box where you can put little things that are rarely used but necessary in the household (bags, twine, lids, etc.).

The drying rack for washed dishes also has a number of accessories. You can place clean rubber gloves and other frequently used utility items on it.

It is better to put detergents in the space under the sink, which needs to be arranged accordingly. Glass jars, soap, powders and other household items are placed in boxes, containers or recesses.

Usually there are mezzanines adjacent to the kitchen. Items used only in exceptional cases, seasonal supplies, as well as items intended for receiving guests are stored there.

Rotary carousel

So that the corner in the kitchen does not stand idle in vain, you can install a rotating carousel in it, which is well suited for corner cabinets with 90° doors and with a 1/2 or 3/4 turntable.

A waste disposal system consisting of three garbage cans, which are mounted on an axis and rotate forward when the cabinet door is opened, would be appropriate here.

How to use an angle?

  • Install a large trapezoid cabinet and provide the insides with a “carousel”. In this case, you get a lot of free space, as well as convenient access to all utensils.
  • Use cabinets with “train” fastenings. We are talking about special structures that pull out shelves one by one. With their help you can get to the pan hidden in the farthest corner.
  • Install a rectangular kitchen, combining a corner cabinet with it. That is, visually it will seem that there are two cabinets, but in fact a single space is organized inside. It not only looks beautiful, but is also very comfortable.
  • Place a dish drainer in a corner. The L-shaped product will easily fit into the designated area, and access to it will not be cluttered.
  • Place a corner under the built-in appliances. This will give the kitchen a neat look and save valuable space. For example, a pencil case can hide a gas water heater.
  • It is worth paying attention to both the functionality and the visual component. To make the kitchen lighter and airier, experts recommend abandoning the façade and using open corner shelves. This solution will help to avoid unnecessary costs, facilitate access to dishes and gain more space.
  • An even simpler option is to set aside a corner under the sink or hob. You will not be offended by the lost centimeters, and the area will turn into a full-fledged work area.

Sink in the corner

A corner sink is another option for making effective use of a corner. If the pipeline passes through this place, the sink can be installed in the corner. This solution can be successfully used in small kitchens with limited space for work surfaces.

Thanks to the modified cabinet shape, the corner sink provides ample storage space for cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils and other small items.

There are tricks to placing a corner kitchen in a small space:

  • Tabletop by the window. One side of the set is placed along the wall with a window, installing a bar counter or a small tabletop at the window sill.
  • Reducing the table top. One of the sides decreases in depth by 10-15 cm. This allows you to lose a little storage space, but greatly expand the free space.
  • Peninsula. One side is located along the wall, shorter across, but is not adjacent to the wall, but has free access from both sides. A desktop or bar counter is used as a peninsula. This ergonomic solution allows you to divide the room, highlighting the dining area.
  • Higher and narrower. For a small kitchen, it is better to use cabinet modules with narrow and high fronts. This will visually increase the height of the room, and the set will look aesthetically pleasing.
  • Right angle. For miniature kitchens, it is better to choose a set with a right angle. Since the trapezoidal corner module for the sink takes up a large space (minimum 900*900mm).

Corner shelves

Open shelves hung in the corner of the kitchen visually increase the size of the space and can be used in modern home and commercial kitchens. On the shelves you can conveniently place coffee cups and breakfast plates, recipe books and other items for everyday use. Shelves installed instead of a corner cabinet make this space lighter and more spacious.

For a room in which furniture is located along two transverse walls, this idea is an excellent option. It allows you to create additional space when properly placed in a U-shaped kitchen.

By taking advantage of useful tips from professionals, you can make the most of all the space in your kitchen.

Kitchen with access to the balcony

If the kitchen of the apartment is equipped with access to a balcony or loggia, then it is necessary to provide for the compatibility of the door panels. It should be noted that there are a lot of ideas for a kitchen with a balcony door.

Some options even provide for its complete removal. Dismantling allows you to increase the area of the kitchen and optimize space. give the room an original look.

Important! Work to combine a kitchen with a balcony or loggia should be coordinated with the relevant city planning services. Certain types of work require permits.

If major work is not planned, then the design of the interior and balcony doors is done in the same style. In cases of financial constraints, instead of replacing the door leaf, curtains or tulle are selected to drape the exit to the loggia.

DIY repair

Both the manufacturing material and the fittings on the doors of kitchen cabinets are constantly subject to heavy loads and negative environmental influences, so it is not surprising that they fail. If the door begins to work poorly, does not close, or has difficulty opening, this does not mean that it needs to be thrown away; it is enough to replace the fasteners or lubricate the hinges.

Repairing or repairing a module is quite simple; as a rule, it does not require calling a furniture specialist.

If the microlift is broken, alignment will not save it; a complete replacement is needed. It is also impossible to repair the closer. It has a solid body, so the structure cannot be disassembled. If the device is broken, you will have to replace it.

Adjusting the hinges couldn't be easier. You will need adjustment screws and skilled hands. It is enough to tighten or, conversely, loosen the screw to the required level, and the door will return to its original state.

The ways to strengthen the door are also simple; you need to arm yourself with a screwdriver and tighten all the screws of the fittings. It is quite easy to secure and tighten loose nuts if you have the necessary tools at hand.

But, if the breakdown is more complex, and replacing the door is inevitable, you need to clearly measure its dimensions and bring it to the master for new doors.

Door leaf materials

Today there is a variety of interior doors on the market, which are made of a variety of materials:

  • Wooden doors are a traditional type of door. Modern models cannot be compared with analogues that can still be found in old houses. 100% solid wood looks great when done well, but is too expensive. The second disadvantage is its significant weight, which requires a durable box that is properly secured to the wall. The third disadvantage is the possibility of significant deformation under the influence of humid or dry air in an unstable kitchen microclimate;
  • Door leaves made of chipboard or MDF. Their price is much lower, but other disadvantages remain. And the aesthetics of such doors is far from ideal;
  • Natural veneer is considered a good alternative to wood. They are used to line door panels made of light pine. They look good, resist moisture better, but are afraid of direct contact with water. Their price is lower, but there are cheaper options;
  • Eco-veneer has proven itself to be excellent in terms of strength and aesthetic appearance. It is made by hot pressing wood fibers impregnated with synthetic glue. Veneer fully conveys the relief and color of valuable tree species, and is very durable. Such coatings are called anti-vandal. The price is almost two times lower than for canvases made of natural veneer;
  • The cheapest option is doors coated with PVC, laminate or enamel. The enamel looks great, is easy to clean, there are practically no downsides, but there is no solidity either. Economy class is striking. The same disadvantage is also inherent in doors covered with PVC film. Another disadvantage is that it quickly fades in the sun, so imitation wood or other natural material quickly loses its attractiveness.

Another significant disadvantage of all economy class doors is the frame. The rectangle, assembled from laminated veneer lumber, is filled with a honeycomb-like material made of cardboard. Such doors do not keep out sound, so you can forget about soundproofing other rooms in the apartment.

Kitchen doors with glass should be considered separately from the rest. Glass can fill the frame of the door leaf completely, half or as an insert of an original shape.

Maximum glazed specimens visually increase the area and make the room brighter. Mirror options look especially original. Among the disadvantages, we can note the impracticality of large glass sheets due to the soiling of the material.

The most convenient will be less glazed options, with vertical, horizontal or diagonal inserts.
