This project differs from the previous one in its complexity, so you will have to think through some parts yourself, but we will try to explain everything to you in as much detail as possible.

First of all, you need to decide on the size of the table. In our case, we take a ready-made tabletop (915 × 2030 mm), under which we will assemble the frame. When choosing a tabletop, pay attention to its weight and follow the rule: the lighter the weight, the better for your table. The best solution for a countertop is a hollow door. You can also assemble the tabletop yourself using flat boards, fasteners, a saw and a drill.

First, prepare 12 meters of plastic pipe and cut it into the following parts:

• 5 pieces 7.5 cm each;
• And 4 pieces of 75 cm.
• 4 pieces of 50 cm;
• 10 pieces of 30 cm;

Of the remaining frame parts you will need the following:

• 4 tees;
• 10 plugs for pipes and fittings.
• 2 crosspieces;
• 4 four-way fittings;

Having prepared all the necessary parts, you can begin assembling the table from polypropylene pipes. It is better to make the first assembly without using glue, and after assembly, glue all the joints one by one. Begin your assembly by designing the sides of the frame where the tabletop will rest.

Next, assemble the back, which will connect the two already assembled. For greater stability of the table, we recommend making a third leg on the back wall. When assembling the table, carefully monitor the parallelism of all elements to achieve a uniform design.

At the final stage, it is necessary to connect all the parts into one structure, obtaining a table frame. Check it for strength, correct any irregularities and then glue all the joints.

After making the frame, you can begin installing the tabletop. This can be done in different ways, but we will consider the most reliable and aesthetically correct.

Plastic pipes. Ideas for children

If you have a small child in your home, then do not rush to buy the necessary items for crazy money. Kids are growing up quickly and soon all this will no longer be relevant. Try to show your imagination and make useful things for the children with your own hands.

Manege

In order to limit a small child’s movements around the apartment, a wonderful device has been invented - a playpen. You can buy it, or you can make it according to your individual measurements! Before you begin assembling the shelf, use a special cutter to cut the PVC into pieces of the required length:

• 12 pieces 18 inches (45.7 cm);
• 4 pieces 2 inches (5.1 cm) long.
• 2 pieces 17 inches (43.2 cm) long;
• 6 pieces 12 inches (30.5 cm) long;

Now use a circular saw to cut the wood into 3 2 x 12 ft (0.6 x 3.66 m) pieces. Sand the edges and surfaces of the wooden shelf blanks in advance.

Project preparation

First you need to decide on the location of the future product in the garage, so as not to be confused with the size. Instantly record your results on paper.

Then you need to draw a diagram of the structure. If the rack is portable, then its base consists of side walls in the form of two racks, between which jumpers are installed.

The sides are connected by beams. In this case, lintels and beams form the basis of the shelves. Fixed racks have the same design, but without rear racks the rear beams are often missing. Therefore, the jumpers are attached directly to the wall.

Be sure to indicate the following design parameters on the diagram:

• Overall Height: To save space in your garage, it makes sense to place furniture up to the ceiling. The upper shelves can be used to store items that you rarely use;
• The length of the structure and the depth of the shelves - these parameters are already written on paper, as they correspond to the dimensions of the platform on which you want to place the product;

The distance between all shelves does not have to be the same

• The distance between the shelves is selected based on the size of the items that will be placed on them. It must be said that the distance between the shelves does not have to be the same. For example, the compartments for storing rubber can be expanded by 600-700 mm, and it is advisable to reduce the space between the remaining shelves so that more of them can fit.

After preparing the project, you can start working.

To make the rack you will need pipes and fittings

Preparing materials and tools

First of all, you need to prepare the pipes. There are no special requirements for their diameter or, for example, wall thickness.

Therefore, if you purchase materials specifically for these purposes, evaluate the future loads on the structure and, based on this, select pipes “by eye.” But most often such furniture is made from what is “at hand”, so there is no need to choose.

Advice! It is recommended to use profile pipes for shelving, as they are more durable. But, if you didn’t have them, use regular ones, such as round ones.

The only thing is that if you plan to make furniture not for the garage, but, for example, for a home or cottage (see Shelving for the home: types of structures), then it is advisable to use a chrome pipe for the shelving, as they look more attractive.

In addition to the main material, you will need fittings to connect all the parts - 90 degree angles and tees. To find out the required number, count the number of connections at an angle of 90 degrees, as well as triple “joints”.

Home furniture made from chrome pipes

The flanges are great for future construction feet and wall mounts. Also count the number of flanges required on the diagram.

You should also prepare the material for the shelves - this could be plywood, OSB, boards or wooden slats. To attach the shelves to the lintels and rafters, use self-tapping screws and horseshoe brackets selected according to the diameter of the pipes.

To protect the product from negative influences and make it attractive, you will need paints and varnishes for wood and metal.

Use brackets to secure shelves

For the tool, prepare the following set:

• Grinder / hacksaw for metal;
• Brush.
• Electric drill;
• Metal files and sandpaper;
• Welding machine (if you do not have a welding machine, you can connect all the elements on a wire. In this case, you will need threading dies or other tools for these purposes);
• Puzzle;
• Tape measure and pencil;

Important! If you are making shelves for your home, then cut the chrome pipe yourself using a special cutter, which allows you to preserve the chrome coating.

Use a special cutter to cut chrome pipes;
it is also advisable to have a workbench with a vice, which will greatly simplify the work.

Assembly of the structure

The instructions for making the rack are as follows:

At this point the frame is ready. Similarly, the product is made by welding, the only thing that simplifies the work somewhat is that there is no need to cut the wire.

Now you need to complete the shelves:

Note! Shelves are not needed for all types of shelving. For example, it is more convenient to place a car tire in the gap between the rafters. Also, shelves and a pipe holder, which very often has a cantilever design, are not required.

Pipe and wheel racks don't need shelves.
This completes our rack. Using this principle, any type of structure can be assembled.

Creative shelf to display your collection

The simplest version of a shelf made of plastic elements is pieces of material assembled together. This original composition is best hung on the wall. Select the diameter of the pipe that you will use in the project depending on the dimensions of the items placed on the shelf. If, as in our version, the cells are occupied by cars, then 15-20 cm will be enough.

Preparing for work

For work, prepare:

• a piece of plastic pipe with a diameter of about 15 cm;
• a hacksaw for cutting material (we recommend using a vice so that the plastic does not slip while working with a hacksaw) or a pipe cutter;
• roulette;
• pencil;
• glue;
• clamps or large clothespins;
• sandpaper;
• blue paint in a can or spray can;
• brush.

To hang the product on the wall, use a drill and 2-3 screws with dowels.

Description of work

1. Place marks along the length of the pipe in increments of 20-25 cm. The number of elements depends on what size shelf you need.
2. Secure the material using a vice and cut the pieces according to the marks.
3. Lightly sand the outer edges of the pieces.
4. In order for the product to have an even color, coloring must be done at this stage. Place the plastic elements on a flat surface covered with newspapers or protective film. Paint them on one side. When the paint is completely dry, flip the pieces over and reapply paint.
5. Start building the shelf. The composition can be either completely symmetrical or chaotically folded. When giving shape when connecting elements, take into account the features of the interior in which the item will be located.
6. Glue the parts together, starting with the middle ones. After applying glue and joining the pieces, secure them with clamps or large clothespins until the glue dries. Then move on to the next elements.
7. Place the finished shelf against the wall, mark the places for screwing in the screws.
8. Prepare holes in the wall.
9. Place dowels in them.
10. Screw in the screws.

Job completed, hang the shelf, help your son or daughter organize his collection of favorite toys.

Everything ingenious is simple! Using this idea, you can build a tabletop shelf for wine bottles. The main thing is to choose the right size material and make sure that the base of the structure is stable. For originality, combine elements of different diameters.

Make a floor shelf for shoes in the same way. Of course, here you will need a large pipe, for example, such as is used when installing a sewer system. Take care of proper decoration. And keep in mind that glue is unlikely to be able to hold a heavy large structure. Therefore, it is better to connect the elements using a screw-nut method, having previously drilled holes in the right places.

Rules for assembling shelves from plastic products

You can assemble a rack from pipes with your own hands in a couple of hours if you have all the tools and materials and it doesn’t matter what products will be used - PVC or metal-plastic. The main task is to make the correct drawing, calculate and indicate all dimensions and prepare the material without errors.

It is difficult to make complex bends for a shelf made of PVC pipes, so the entire structure will be rectangular. Metal-plastic products are folded manually, and such a furniture structure can be made shaped, with curved transitions between tiers. For example, the support legs can be folded into shapes, and to secure the shelves in the right places, cut out the leg and insert a shirt into the cut.

The difficulty lies in the space between the shelves - not a shirt is needed there, but a transition with four sockets. But, since there are no such metal-plastic transitions, you will have to dodge and add an extra segment onto which another three will be screwed. Or make tubular bridges for the shelves not on four sides, but only on two - the shelf will also rest securely on two tubes.

PVC sections are connected by welding at all intersection points of the reinforcement. These can be tees and crosses, joints and bends. The presence of PVC crossbars makes the work of assembling a shelf or rack especially easier - this design allows you to do without unnecessary parts and connections on the shelf supports. It is better to strengthen legs made of propylene segments by welding joints or plugs to them.

To prevent the legs of a rack or shelf from moving under heavy loads, they can be fixed in parts in the same way as shelf stands, so there is no need to solder plugs.

What to make for children?

Designs that are useful for children occupy a significant field of activity. They can be made for sale. For example, a house for children will instill in them such useful features as subsequently caring for a real house, running a country house, and solving pressing issues of a very wide range related to the maintenance of any home, be it a country house or a country house. The walls of the children's house are finished with dense or, conversely, transparent material.

Manege

The playpen is suitable for infants or toddlers, whose movement around the living space - for their own safety - is recommended to be limited until they grow up. Plastic pipes with a working diameter of 25 mm are suitable for the arena. The design is made in such a way that the child does not crawl between the bars and does not run away outside the fenced area. The fastening to the support must be reliable so that the child does not accidentally knock over the product.

Swing

The swing will require reinforced plastic - the angular speed when swinging is significant, the crossbars must withstand the load with a sufficient margin. Children's safety comes first. A sketch of the device is developed in accordance with the existing remaining pipes or, conversely, the number and length of pipelines are calculated along with additional elements.

Football goal

Gates are made from pipes with a diameter of at least 25 mm, but sewer pipes can also be used. To strengthen them, additional spacers and supports included in the design are used. They are light enough to be carried. The use of a fitting will completely make the structure collapsible and transportable by car. Do-it-yourself football goals do not need to be firmly fixed to the ground.

Materials for basement shelving

• plywood (bought in scraps at FMK, it turned out that it was already the same size as the width);
• welding machine
• assembly;
• polypropylene pipe, without reinforcement, DN25 and DN32;

1. Arranged it according to quantity, made several empty spaces, cutting the tube to size.

2. Using a welding machine, I welded a DN32 pipe and fittings.

3. This is how the first product was made.

4. Cut the plywood to size and trim the corners under the hardware.

5. Having gathered in large numbers, he lowered the structure underground. I attached the plywood to the first rows, welded the vertical posts, and so on.

6. The first stand made of DN32 pipe is ready - for the arc, etc.! I left some shirts with an upward outlet if we want to expand in the future. The stand is stable, can withstand a lot, and does not bend. For reliability, I secured it with tape to the rafter screws.

7. Then, using the same principle, I made a multi-story rack from a DN25 tube for 0.5 and 1 liter cans. You can safely place jars on it in two rows!

8. Second half of the floor with brackets for easy installation on floor joists. The other half is attached to the posts at the base, also using mounting tape and self-tapping screws.

(Shelf) Book rack made from water pipes

When choosing which pipes to make a rack from, the author of the photo had a hard time:

• PVC is cheap and easy to work with, but it is not flexible enough: it will not withstand the heavy load that the rack implies. PVC pipes are suitable for small shelves
• Copper pipes are fairly easy to work with, are stronger than PVC, and are relatively affordable.
• Galvanized steel pipes are more expensive than PVC, strong, durable, but more difficult to work with.

Therefore, the author’s choice fell on copper pipes.

Attention, in this design there are no rear diagonal beams, which usually give stability to wooden shelves; here they are replaced by horizontal supports, which are located under the massive shelves (see photo). The diagonal supports were removed for aesthetics to completely open up the back wall. In this case, it is still worth fixing the rack to the wall, which will provide additional stability.

This shelf made of galvanized pipe belongs to the racks; its advantage is that it is fixed in the apartment without a single hole in the wall or ceiling and can be located away from the walls. The method of fixing our shelf is based on clamps between the floor and the ceiling.

According to the author of the photo, making this shelf with your own hands is not at all difficult. Then let's look at the features.

For the rack, the author used flanges, which, unfortunately, had an inner edge. Therefore, the first thing the author had to do was remove this part of the flange so that the pipes could freely pass inside the flange (see Photo 2-7).

Next, we cut the pipes to the length we need. When we measure the length of pipes we need, we take into account the width of the clamp that will stand between the pipes. This clip should be neither too short nor too long.

The author made a clamp between two pipes (short and long) at the top of the rack, under the stream. But later he came to the conclusion that a short tube was not needed here; the clamp could be positioned so that it rested directly on the flange. The presence of a small tube reduces the stability of the stand (see Photo 11). Be sure to wash the pipes with soapy water before installation.

Next, we cut holes in the tubular shelves. The author recommends placing all the shelves on top of each other and using the marked top shelf, like a template, to drill all three holes in all shelves at once.

Owners' opinions

Reviews about owning a greenhouse made from polypropylene pipes are mostly positive. You can build a greenhouse and fasten and solder the parts using improvised means, without resorting to buying or renting expensive equipment

Cheapness is the first positive quality that all gardeners pay attention to.

For many, an additional advantage was the opportunity to do something for the garden with their own hands.

Some people said that it is possible to make such a greenhouse even without a preliminary drawing, that everything is already clear. Others did not agree with them because they were building a year-round structure, making a simple foundation for it. The only drawback that owners complain about is that the frame cannot always withstand a snow load, especially if precipitation is heavy. However, this problem can be solved very simply. • Wall-mounted - are a stand-alone structure that is not attached to the wall. Thanks to this, the goods can be transported. Another advantage is that the design does not load the walls, which is important when they are not very strong, for example, frame or plasterboard sheathing;

Wall furniture can be moved from place to place

• Stationary - unlike wall mounting, they have racks only on the front side, so the wall to which the shelves are attached performs the load-bearing function of the rear racks. Therefore, such models are called stationary;

Fixed rack attached to the wall

• Cantilevered: Unlike fixed ones, these products have rear support posts, where the shelves are cantilevered, that is, only on the back side, and the front side only weighs in the air. The frame of such a product can be mounted on the wall or be portable.

Note! Console models take up little space, but have a small load capacity, so they are not suitable for storing heavy items.

• Hanging: Unlike all the above products, these are wall hung, so all the load falls on the walls and not the floor. In fact, these are ordinary shelves, but larger and connected by construction sites. They can be either console or standard, i.e. with front pillars.

Preparing materials and tools

First of all, you need to prepare the pipes. There are no special requirements for their diameter or, for example, wall thickness.

Therefore, if you purchase materials specifically for these purposes, evaluate the future loads on the structure and, based on this, select pipes “by eye.” But most often such furniture is made from what is “at hand”, so there is no need to choose.

Advice! It is recommended to use profile pipes for shelving, as they are more durable. But, if you didn’t have them, use regular ones, such as round ones.

The only thing is that if you plan to make furniture not for the garage, but, for example, for a home or cottage (see Shelving for the home: types of structures), then it is advisable to use a chrome pipe for the shelving, as they look more attractive.

In addition to the main material, you will need fittings to connect all the parts - 90 degree angles and tees. To find out the required number, count the number of connections at an angle of 90 degrees, as well as triple “joints”.

The flanges are great for future construction feet and wall mounts. Also count the number of flanges required on the diagram.

You should also prepare the material for the shelves - this could be plywood, OSB, boards or wooden slats. To attach the shelves to the lintels and rafters, use self-tapping screws and horseshoe brackets selected according to the diameter of the pipes.

To protect the product from negative influences and make it attractive, you will need paints and varnishes for wood and metal.

Plastic rack

Recently, pipelines in houses and apartments are often made of polypropylene (PP) pipes, so this material may be on hand in the garage. It is also quite suitable for making furniture.

Variety of plastic pipes

It's no secret that plastic pipes come in different purposes, colors and sizes. Their physical characteristics also vary greatly; the pipes withstand different power loads and operate in different temperature zones (for example, for cold and hot water).

The plastics from which pipes are made today are divided into three groups:

• Polyethylene - PE. Do not behave well at high temperatures, the material is elastic and pliable even after exposure to sunlight! Consider the conditions in which your invention will operate; if it is in contact with hot water, then choose a different material.

Some manufacturers, for the convenience of their consumers, apply color markings to the surface of the tubes to indicate ownership. So, the blue stripe is for cold water, the red stripe is for hot water. It happens that there are 2 stripes on the pipe, which means that it is suitable for both hot and cold.

To increase the rigidity of plastic, manufacturers produce reinforced pipes. A layer of aluminum or fiberglass is inserted between two layers of polymer. Reinforced pipes are much stronger and more reliable, but their price is considerable.

This leads to the main disadvantage of purchased models – their standard sizes. It is not always possible to find a rack with the required dimensions, so it either does not fit into the niche, or the useful volume of the room is lost. But such a purchase also has other disadvantages:

• unpredictable quality - even without exceeding the load, the material can crack, especially at fastening points;
• if the product is certified, the price will increase;
• you need to wait until the rack is delivered;
• and then assemble it yourself anyway (or pay again for assembly).

We make a rack for the garage with our own hands

Basically, I previously had the idea to make a metal shelving unit with my own hands so that I could have regular shelves in the basement. But the problem was that this room has very curved walls. Apparently, when the base was created, no one cared. If only soon. And now you're suffering

I wanted to make these shelves in the garage so that they would stand from wall to wall, even if the length is about 6 (six) meters. After rummaging around on the Internet, I realized that almost everyone suggests using a corner or profile pipe as a material, as well as simple fastening options, quick installation or bolts and nuts. But these mounting options didn't work for my curved walls.

In the meantime, let's return to our shelves (shelves). In general, I decided to make a frame from a profile pipe. To begin with, I measured the exact dimensions of the basement itself - length, width and height, and then began drawing up drawings.

I already knew how many and what kind of boxes would be placed on the shelf in which the products would be stored, as well as their dimensions, so, based on the available information in my drawings, I took these parameters into account. Therefore, I decided what the dimensions of the garage sections would be and how many profile pipes and fittings I would need.

We prepare everything you need. The basis of the future product is a frame made of rolled pipes. And since the load on the shelves is different, their material also differs.

Pipes can be:

• metal (steel, cast iron);
• polypropylene;
• made of PVC plastic.

The material differs in strength, as well as in its initial and subsequent purpose:

• for heavily loaded racks, steel sewer pipes with thick walls are needed;
• for storing light items you can get by with plastic water pipes;
• if the rack needs to be aesthetic, chrome-plated steel pipes are a good choice, but keep in mind that working with them requires skills, otherwise the coating can be damaged.
